welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Seeing her make an amateur mistake such as just rushing right at him when he had evasive skills caused him to sigh. So this would just be him giving a lesson? He wanted a challenge and this is what he got? Great. He was just going to have to find a way to make this fun, even if she wasn't a challenge. He noticed as she charged that she was roughly the same speed he was. Well that's a start he thought. However he had an advantage that she did not: He could separate into shards to avoid blows. Which he did just now. He separated, resulting in her going through where he originally was, and pieced himself behind her in the exact same spot. He leaped forward and turned around to face her again, the smirk remaining on his face. "Run run run as fast as you can!" It was then he saw her turn invisible and he narrowed his eyes.
Now things were getting interesting, in two ways. The first was that he was debating to himself if her turning invisible was a part of her talent, or a part of her lineage. If it was the former, then he'd want to investigate into what her canine side was. In addition, this made it interesting as he had to change strategies. Though it wouldn't take much effort. He chuckled and a blast of cold came out of nowhere, freezing the air around them. After that he just scanned the area, his eyes moving quickly. He saw the shimmer of heat, as well as the trail of melted frost she made as she moved. He grinned. "Oh dear! Wherever could she be?" If she made the attempt to attack him he would separate again, reappearing behind her and slashing his sword at her in the attempts to land a cut.

Okay.... so her first attack didn't work. Ryse scowled in annoyance as the Atronach had split himself into pieces and formed back together in the blink of an eye. The snow that was now around her paws, creating a trail wherever she walked wasn't helping much either. She wasn't going to sneak up on him that way.
She wracked her brain as she tried to figure out what to do. Maybe she could melt the snow in the area to hide her tracks? No.... Oras seemed to control water and ice. He could just refreeze the water into snow again, and she'd be right back in the same position she was now. Surprise attacks wouldn't work. And if she tried rushing at him again he would just split up like he had before.
An idea popped into her head, and lifting her wings, she flapped them to forcefully hurl scorching air, slushy snow and ice back at the Atronach, hoping to blind him momentarily. If it worked, she would lunge forward, aiming for his sword instead of the Atronach himself. Her jaws would grab ahold of it and yank it from Oras's hand, leaving him weaponless.

Oras hummed as he continued this little game of theirs. Dodging her and striking back when needed. However that changed when she pulled off her stunt. The melted frost and snow came hurling at him like a wave. While it didn't really effect him much, since his eyes were made of ice just like any other part of him, it did make it difficult to see her through the wave of slush. Still, he was glad she was trying new methods. She wasn't a total moron in that case. He saw her charging forward and so he grinned, taking position to meet her and strike when she did. The water hit him, and: She grasped his sword just as he swung it, which surprised him. She could have tried taking him directly, either grabbing him or slashing at him. He looked up at her as she was still in the air and just grinned. "OOohhh, so you think now that I'm weaponless you stand a chance? You've got quite a bit to learn Puppird," he said with a chuckle. "Cause I still don't need my talent to take you down."
Oras transformed into his true self and shot at her like a bullet. The first thing he'd do would be to grab her maw with one hand, and strike her belly with his other. Whether or not he succeeded would be the true test. The air was in stalemate. Lukewarm as intense cold fought intense heat. Oras driving the molecules to come to a halt while Ryse drove them to move faster. He did his best to avoid the wings and the tail however, as they seemed to be the source of her heat. He would use every inch of his body for the fight. His hands and feet, his tail, his wings, even his head. He had practiced martial arts in his first trip here, but he created his own during his time back home. Now he was testing it out.

Ryse started in surprise as Oras changed forms and shot towards her. Caught off guard by the sudden attack, she wasn't able to move fast enough to dodge the Atronach. She struggled to free herself from his grip on her muzzle, and gave a muffled yelp at the strike to her belly. Ow. That had definitely not been pleasant. At least he hadn't tried to grab her wings. If they were broken, she would have no way to save herself if she fell. And they were pretty high up in the air....
Growling, she scratched at Oras's icy form, trying to make him let go. He was stronger than her, that much was certain, and he was more experienced than her. But right now, she didn't really much care about that.
She glared at him angrily. 'Don't you know it's not polite to grab a woman?!' She thought. She wanted him to let go of her. Right. Now.
With that thought in mind, she promptly burst into flames.

Oras watched as she appeared surprised at his sudden change, and she didn’t seem able to react appropriately to his new tactics. After he had managed to grab a hold of her, she tried to force him off, but it was clear who was the stronger one in this fight. What he lacked in defense he well made up for in his raw strength and power. It was then however, when she used her power rather than her phyical abilities yet again. He could feel the heat ready to explode and his eyes narrowed. He threw her away from him while pushing himself away as well just as the fire exploded from her. He growled at the pain, and would have scowled if it weren’t for the fact that he didn’t have an actual mouth. He stopped a decent length from her and cackled. “I see. You can’t defeat me normally so you resort to my greatest weakness? Boring, but smart. Well then,” he said before picking up the sword that had now dropped. As he picked it up, the blade grew in size until it had fully adjusted for his new height. “Let’s even those odds shall we?”
This was something he loved about longswords. They helped keep fire out of reach. While it was true he would feel the heat and it would wear him down over time, the sword would at least give him the time he needed to end this little spar of theirs. He shot at her, but right at the most ideal point for him to speed up and ram her, he would suddenly curve his wings, flying in a tight circle and make a swift strike to her left, jabbing his blade into her leg or side. Not a fatal wound, but it would pierce. Assuming he landed a hit of course. If she attacked he would simply back away. Hit and run tactics was what he switched to, as it was the best strategy for this particular scenario.

"How is that fair?" Ryse said as she warily watched the Atronach pick up the sword. She had paws for Vissarion's sake! She couldn't pick up a weapon like Oras could! She was just an animal with wings and fire abilities. It seemed highly unfair to her.
When he shot towards her again, swinging the sword, she narrowly managed to dodge out of the way, quickly flying away from the Atronach and stopping a little ways from him. She didn't want to be any closer to the weapon than she already was. How could she attack him when he was wielding a sharp object that was nearly half her size, and could severely injure her? There was no way she was going to be able to beat him. She just wasn't skilled enough, or strong enough to do so.

Oras chuckled as she asked how what he was doing was anywhere near fair. "Haven't you heard the phrase: 'ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR?!'" He continued to do his best to strike her, but he wasn't fast enough. They were both on equal speed, and she was focusing all her energy on not being hit by his sword. As he did so he noticed something. When he did, he grinned even wider... Or he would if he could. Instead he rushed to cut her off, swinging his sword at her. He could continue doing this, strategically doing so in a way that seemed random, just him trying to find a weak point or catch her off guard. What he was really doing however, was pushing her slowly, but surely, into a trap. He continued to push her more and more, using her fear of what he was assuming was the sword to drive her closer to the ground.
When she was positioned in just the right spot, he lunged at her, keeping his wings and arms out, his sword ready to strike in any direction, preventing her from moving anywhere except backwards. The second she did so, he would revert into his human form and let his sword rest against his shoulder. As he did so he'd smirk at her and say: "Checkmate "Puppird". She most likely wouldn't get this until she heard the thud of a student dropping their books at seeing a massive dog and phoenix hybrid having crashed in front of them. It was only one, but one was all Oras needed. He chuckled and began walking away in the opposite direction as the student stared. "There are more ways than one to win a fight dearie~ Remember that in the future! Ha ha ha ha!"

Ryse continued dodging Oras's attacks, trying to stay away from the dangerous weapon. She didn't want to be turned into a shiskabob or skewered, which is what would likely happen if she was hit by the weapon. As she dodged, she didn't realize that the Atronach was drawing her closer and closer to the ground. All she was focused on was staying away from the sword.
As she landed on the ground, she flinched as she saw the weapon heading towards her, squeezing her eyes shut. But upon only feeling the weapon touch her shoulder lightly a few moments later, she peeked open her eyes again. Oras was now in his human form again, smirking at her.
The words he said next confused her. Checkmate? What did he mean by that?
Before she could open her mouth and ask, however, she turned her head upon hearing books drop to the ground and saw a student there. A student that was staring at her, open mouthed. Looking at her.
Ryse's heart pounded painfully in her chest, and she flattened her ears against her head. She wished the ground would swallow her whole, and make her disappear. She wanted to be anywhere but here right now. For a long moment she was frozen, unable to move. She stared back at the student, and the student stared back at her.
Finally snapping herself out of it, she quickly turned Invisible, vanishing from sight. And - picking up the book in her jaws that was now lying on the ground, soaking wet from the water and snow that had been thrown around in the fight - she fled from the courtyard as fast as her paws could carry her, hearing Oras's parting words echo in her ears. She blinked away tears that had started to blur her vision, trying not to cry. Shame at being goaded into fighting, embarrassment at being seen like she had, and guilt ran through her. What would her mother think? Fighting in the middle of the school grounds with another student was not how she'd been raised. Her mother would be so disappointed in her.
But more than the guilt, the despair, the shame.... there was anger. Anger towards Oras, who knew that she was afraid of being seen in her true form. And yet he purposefully caused it to happen! All for his own amusement!!
Her eyes narrowed and her muzzle curled into a snarl as she ran, heading back to her own room. She wouldn't be forgiving Oras anytime soon for this. That, she was sure about.
