welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

It was past midnight at the coffee shop, the place had long since closed. Yet outside, on one of the patio tables, sat a lone fourteen year old boy staring at his hands, and glancing around at people every so often whenever they passed. For those who looked closer, however, they might quickly see that the boy was not what he seemed. As from within the reflection of the glass windows of the cafe, he showed no reflection. And peeking out from beneath his lips were two elongated canines.
No one approached him, but neither did they accost him on his apparent vampirism. The city of Mystere was a diverse place after all, and he was relatively close enough to the Academy that people expected this kind of thing.
Ozaki sighed deeply, leaning his head on his fist. “Of course he’s not coming.” He muttered, looking down at the newspaper in front of him.

Nevira walked along the darkened quiet streets of Mystopolis. The only light coming from the nearby buildings and passing cars on the road beside her. Yet even in this darkness the girl stood out. She was tall and slender, and wore a long black cloak. Not to mention both her eyes and the markings on her skin seemed to pulsate with a faint light. She was expressionless as she continued to walk, staring only ahead and paying no mind to her surroundings.
Nevira liked these walks. They were few and far between. The small amount of time she was able to actually spend outside was exciting though. She could feel the cool crisp air of this world upon her unnatural and foreign skin, and without the threat of the sun to sway her away from this time. This world of light wasn't so bad. At least not during the night anyways. Of course it would never compare to her home, but she'd have to make do with what she had. After all, there wasn't any chance she'd be able to go back anyways.
Soon Nevira came across a quieter street closer to the school. It was lined with many shops and cafes that were all mostly closed down for the night, but there was one that was still open. And outside sitting was a child. Nevira smirked when she saw him. She could sense the shadows around the staff member. They danced around his aura in ways nobody but Nevira could see and appreciate. And with that, she'd decide to see what he was doing all alone on a beautiful night like this.
"Having trouble sleeping, Professor?" She asked politely, standing behind him with a friendly smile. The light of her eyes and markings casting an ominous glow.

He heard the woman approaching him, and glanced behind himself as she approached. She called him professor, which meant she probably recognized his face at the very least from the halls of the academy. As a fellow night dweller they may have seen each other at least a few times. But they’d never talked. “I’m an inventory manager, not a professor.” He corrected with a mild tone, showing he was not really offended by the mistake, but wanting to clarify. “And I don’t exactly sleep at night.” Ozaki gestured to his pale skin and the fangs pointing out from underneath his lips.

The young blood devil should be asleep right now but she had been woken up by nightmares again, so many images of bloody war specifically of final moments from a first person view as if it was her doing the actions that led to the blood spilling. Flying really helped to dry the cold sweat from her body, so she was soaring through the sky after midnight when she really wasn't exactly nocturnal. "You could be a hunting professor though." she had seen him as she passed over, swooping down onto the fabric overhang perching her feet onto the metal bars holding it up. Slowly wings that seemed to be too large for her body folded inwards coming once more to rest against her back tips several feet above her head. Just neglect the fact she should be in bed.

Nevira continued to gaze at the vampire as he corrected her before tilting her head slightly and nodding. "Ah, yes. Of course." she said. "My mistake." Nevira spoke again, slowly meandering her way around the table to face the vampire. She glanced with a curious expression after seeing the pale skin and pointed fangs he made reference too before. Interesting. He must've been a vampire then. While it was true that she had seen him around, Nevira didn't actually know who he was exactly. She could've just as easily mistaken him for a student, but the aura she felt around him told her that he must've been far more experienced than that.
Before Nevira could say anything more, however, a new arrival appeared on the scene. She looked up with glowing eyes to see a winged creature descend upon their little conversation. Raising an eyebrow curiously, Nevira retained her normal smile. "Shouldn't young students like yourself been asleep?" Nevira questioned truthfully.

Ozaki’s glum expression turned to sunlight itself upon hearing Nyx’s voice. He stood up immediately. “Well. If she were always asleep when students were allegedly supposed to be then when would I ever see my daughter?” He asked in a cheeky tone, just enjoying the sound of the word on his tongue.
“Come down here Nyx!” He said, putting out his arms in an offer to catch the blood devil. Ozaki knew very well that she did not need the helping hand to get down. But he could use the hug. Plus wasn't she the most adorable thing ever? Yes. An adorable wolf pup, for now. This time likely would not last forever, he had to cherish it while he could.

Her heart pulsed slightly unadjusted to seeing someone be so happy about her merely being around easily making his sunny disposition contagious within seconds. It was good hearing someone actually call her their daughter as even from Askel who had parented her for years such statement had been greedily conversed to meager necessity instead of some emotional show of fondness. Quickly the young girl leaped down eagerly into his arms careful to hold her wings back so they wouldn't touch him as even without fighting she had noted that ever since he changed her diet they had slowly begun to grow sharper, more firm and dangerous to others.
Laughter filled the air for a few seconds as she adjusted her body slightly to ensure her claws rested on his clothing instead of flesh they'd easily make ribbons of considering how most aspects of her anatomy able to cause harm to another were designed like weapons. "Besides, I can't always rest the best." which was not shocking anymore when one brought into account the revelations that she had been forced to make about the fact she'd been dumped twice by 'family' even having a new one better than all the rest couldn't erase that. However, it was not that 'trauma' causing her night terrors instead she was plagued by memories she denied belonged to her always caught up thinking about a man who could not possibly exist. "So even if I stayed home at bed, I wouldn't get any sleep tonight I already tried." it had resulted in her waking up barely able to hold in the scream of his name as her small hand stretched out as if to grip the back of his jacket, as if she didn't want the nightmare to end. That was what scared her most, no matter how bloody those terrors became she was always more distressed by the idea he would vanish again when she woke.

Well, the evening had certainly taken a turn of interesting events. Nevira crossed her arms and looked back down to the vampire when he revealed to her that this girl was his daughter. She wasn't exactly sure how to process that bit of information, seeing as he still looked so young even if his real age was much older. Not that it was really any of her business... This world was filled with many strange people. The man called her Nyx.
Nevira bowed her head slightly. "Right... My apologies." She said with the same smile, giving no hint to what she might be thinking underneath about the situation before her. "I guess we nocturnals are more common than I had originally thought. Interesting... I should begin cataloguing my findings." Nevira spoke aloud, thinking up another idea for an experiment before her mind was grounded again to reality. "Well, a pleasure to meet you anyways, Nyx." Nevira said honestly, placing an arm across her chest and bowing as she said so. "I'm professor Nevira. Moral Twilight studies." She said with a somewhat darker grin, masked only by the darkness of their surroundings.

Ozaki took Nevira’s momentary look of surprise as more to the fact that the two of them were completely different species. A vampire did not a blood devil make. But adoption was a thing… That he hadn’t officially done yet. He wasn’t sure if Dawn would be okay with him asking to get that paperwork done. They didn’t exactly get along after all, and considering she’d already adopted Nyx, he’d have to ask her permission. “Its fine. My name's Ozaki by the way. And if you want a good understanding of how many nocturnal beings there are, the city census online might be something good to check out.” He replied to Nevira, not expecting her to assume their relation and figuring he'd get introductions out of the way. And also recommend an easy way for her not to have to scurry about collecting a bunch of data that already existed.
And that would be all sorts of awkward. His brow furrowed when she said that she had been unable to sleep. She often woke up from her post-feeding naps in a snap, due to some sort of nightmare that she’d never go into detail on. “Nightmares again? You can talk to me about them if you want to you know… It might help.”
Already he was fabricating plans for what to do for the night with Nyx. He would try and get her back to Dawn’s before dawn, but if they didn’t go out and do something she wouldn’t be able to reset her mind and get some sleep. He was thinking something like karoke.

"To be fair, I'm not a true nocturnal from my understanding my species is one that doesn't steadily pick, easily switching to whatever sort of sleep schedule is convenient for them, mostly after feeding since the others are pretty much always fighting if they're not feeding or sleeping." it kinda made sense that they were inclined to fall asleep after feeding properly since it was one of only two things they did that really involved no degree of violence. However, the way she spoke about her own kind was weird as if she had a complete disconnect with them treating them as if they were some wild animal to be observed instead of like her. Looking at the other female something felt different in the general space of her rib cage but she couldn't discern it and pushed the sensation off even though it would not go away.
Shuffling her feet slightly she gave a weak shrug to his comments, holding onto his hand still her gaze darting to his arm for a second while she tried to formulate a response. Prior to speaking her fangs suddenly sank into his arm but she showed no sign that she was going to take blood from him simply releasing shortly after. "It'd be pointless all of them are probably just caused by the natural imagination of my species going out of control when I sleep, there's nothing near real about them I know its all fake." There was no way that man who made her heart feel like it was going to explode was real and since that bone white haired deceptively normal looking induvial couldn't possibly be real neither could her dreams be memories. Nyx continuously went to whatever length she could to convince herself Chaoris was a figment of her imagination and thus most of the memories she had regained were also equally fabricated. If she was what she saw in her dreams? How could either of the best parents she'd had ever love her after finding out, it had to be her secret and to keep it secret she had to continue being convinced it wasn't real in the first place. Only, something deep inside still knew the truth.
Looking away again she sighed tightening her grip on his hand with a small grimace of a smile. "Besides, even if they had any semblance of reality it's not like they're taking place in the same place I feel asleep or with the same people I feel asleep around so it's not my future vision. At worst it's me loosing control of my ability to dream walk and repeatedly ending up in dreams that aren't mine." she smiled brightly after that, having found her newest excuse to absolutely convince herself that it was entirely fabricated and in no way connected to the flashes of memory which she venomously internally denied belonged to her and hadn't even mentioned recovering. Though, her mentioning the fact she could dream walk was new as she distinctly seemed to be semi secretive about her powers, an after effect of the way Askel had raised her to be averse towards her own strength.

As the night went on, it seemed clear that these two had close history. Nevira wasn't entirely sure what kind of circumstances they had found themselves in, but the winged girl began speaking of nightmares, and Ozaki confirmed it. Interesting. Nyx claimed that these dreams were only dreams, and that there was nothing special about them at all. She wasn't entirely sure if the girl was telling the truth, only based on how specific she was being about them.
Ozaki offered his help to her, but the girl shrugged off his services. And it seemed as if they were both blood drinkers. The population of predatory students had seen a notable increase over the past few months Nevira had noticed. She wondered how hard Yuuki's job must've been if he tried to make sure they all got their needs met. She shuddered to think of how many people would be found with their blood drained if not.
"If these nightmares are a bother, perhaps I could get rid of them entirely for you." Nevira said with her normal smile, raising a hand as a bright blue orb of light shone from her palm. "I can bestow both blessings and curses on others. Surely some bad dreams could be fixed with a simple blessing?"

Ozaki’s brow furrowed at hearing that she might be using her dream walking ability. Combined with her saying she was just possibly tapping into the natural imagination of her species… That did not bode well. That highly implied that she was walking into other people’s dreams and butchering them. It probably wasn’t going to kill the dreamers. But it would disturb them quite a bit. If this was what was happening then his plans for the night would likely have to change drastically. He had been meaning to get her more introduced to the concept of combat, but this confirmed he needed to do it sooner rather than later.
Perhaps they could go wolf hunting? No. She wasn’t there yet. Nyx was a wolf pup, and pups played with each other. Maybe he could get her to skirmish with him?
Ozaki put Nyx down on her own feet as Nevira offered the blessing to get rid of the dreams. While Nyx being able to get a solid night’s sleep was important… That was assuming these were just bad dreams. “If they are actually bad dreams and Nyx not walking into other’s people’s dreams that might work but…” He looked to her, opting to leave this up to her.
The vampire wasn’t sure wiping away the dreams would be the best thing. If his current theory was correct, those dreams were possibly the only outlet to her species’ naturally violent inclinations. If they took away the dreams without knowing what they were or what their purpose was…
A blood devil needed combat like a vampire needed to hunt. As much as Ozaki would like to claim that he was being purely altruistic when he hunted for the students of the Academy, there was an alternative reason. And that was the vampiric blood within his veins giving him the compulsion not just to feed, but to hunt. Given the fact that he never used his fangs, only his needles, that urge was never fully sated. But enough to get by and be a stable member of society. And that was all that really mattered. “Even a blessing can be a curse if applied without knowing the root cause… Which in this cause may simply be that she needs to fight something.”
He didn't know how else to word it. And was hoping Nyx didn't freak out too much at the mere mention of such a thing.

The nightmares were beyond bothersome considering that even when she finally woke from them the scenes didn't entirely leave her, sitting in the back of her mind as if they were memories that belonged to her. Based on everything Askel had taught her she should want to get rid of these images anyway possible, but something inside of her felt as if that was wrong to do. Even if she had ventured too far into denial rendering herself unable to truly recognize her own memories at the moment? Any feeling she'd had before those memories were taken still remained perfectly intact just suppressed until provoked in some way. Apparently, trying to take away these things was one method of provoking the feelings she'd been taught to ignore.
"No. You're no god I don't need blessings, not from-" she looked completely stunned for a second before the confusion settled unto her face clearly tearing through her mental state. Feelings pushed at her to speak of him but she couldn't remember anything expect those ice blue eyes and bone white hair, his face. "I'm so sorry, I don't know what that was nor what I was going to say completely." Blue optics blinked as she lifted one hand to her head a clear pained expression passing her features momentarily as her brain screamed his name. Suddenly, she could almost remember saying the word 'god' much more often than she did these days but not why or when she had said it. What was going on? How was someone getting these ridiculous notions into her head. People who tried to change the mental state of others were cowards. Why?! As confusion faded she returned to normal convincing herself easily that it had nothing to do with anything real.
Looking up at Yuuki she blinked in disbelief upon hearing him admit she may need to fight something. No idiot the girl knew her body desperately wanted to battle in spite of the fact she didn't consider this a requirement for her life. Did he see her the same as those devil's from the island? Was Yuuki unhappy with her as a pacifist! "But Pacifist's don't fight." her voice was a little pitchy as she looked down lifting both hands together in order to bring them directly in front of her stomach nervously, wings fluttering slightly with the anxiety. "Do you.. do you want me to be like them?" her gaze was shaking and it was impossible to tell if this was from joy or sorrow, because she wasn't even sure herself anymore.

Nevira kept her normal smile, even when Nyx snapped at her, claiming she wasn't a god. She just bowed her head respectfully and closed her palm, the blue light fading into a blood red orb before shattering completely in her palm. "It's alright, my dear. I understand if you would like to work out your issues on your own." She said with a friendly smile. Despite what Nevira may have been thinking, that much was true. Sometimes in cases like these people needed to work out their mental state without the help of others. She wasn't exactly sure what Nyx's situation was, but Nevira knew that if she interfered it might risk doing more harm than good in the long run. This was only confirmed by Ozaki's analyses, and he seemed to know the girl much better than Nevira could ever hope too.
However, something interesting happened in their conversation that gave Nevira an idea. Instead of simply waving her hand and taking the risk that curing Nyx would require, she could offer an alternative. "Well, if you are having issues sorting yourself out, may I suggest something?" She asked aloud. "I teach a very... Self revealing class. My students often come out of it knowing a lot more about themselves than sometimes they would've liked. If you'd like I can save you a spot. If you're willing to confront your inner darkness and defeat it... Or alternatively embrace it. Either way, confidence in knowing one's self is assured." Nevira said with a grin. To be honest though, she wasn't entirely sure if this is exactly what Nyx needed. After all, she didn't really know much about either of these two characters. She was simply a bystander in their personal engagement at this moment it seemed.

Oh Carmilla’s blood. What should he do? What… What… Oh no. He felt like he’d screwed something up big time. What would his mother do? He was frozen for a second before his right hand lifted slowly, and he placed it on her head. Just like his mother always used to do for him, and leaned over slightly to be at her level so he could look her right in the eyes to try and convey his sincerity. “I want you to be happy Nyx. Whatever that means. We’ll work through it together.”
He wanted to more overtly encourage her to what he knew would be required of her, but Ozaki wasn’t sure how to do that.
He looked over to the teacher. Twilight morality? That would be… An interesting class for Nyx. If his daughter did choose to take it he was going to have to make a few things clear to her about what being a blood devil meant. Morality became complicated when one’s species literally required blood, battle, and potentially even death itself.
She was a Sactus, so there was a potential that she truly did grasp that morality itself was a complex thing that was not always defined on the situation, but what you were. But still. A private talk with her later would be in order, particularly in the likely chance Nyx did not immediately leap to happily murdering wolves in the woods….
What a weird thought. But for a blood devil… That was about right? “We can definitely talk more about that later… And now of course.” He didn’t want to exclude Nyx from this, but he wanted to at least imply that there would have to be a chat between them. Or maybe he was just being confusing... But either way Nyx was at a very crucial time in her life, and he didn’t want more damaging ideas being put into her head that she should suppress what she was. As much as it might be nice to have his pup… She was likely living in agony whether she admitted it or not. It was better to have a happy wolf than to keep one's child a pup for one's own selfish wishes.
