Fireproof. (Private)

It was great to see her. It really was. Ozaki was just wishing that it were under better circumstances than trying to create a material that could be used to kill his father, an avid user of both holy fire and phoenix. He felt guilty already for what he was going to ask of Ryse, she not knowing what his intentions were.

“Yes actually… I was hoping I might be able to ask a favor from you. If its not too much trouble that is." 

“I have a certain job that requires a specially made weapon to go after, and I need it to be fireproof against holy fire and phoenix fire.” Both fire types that were particularly dangerous for vampires, Ryse might note. “And was wondering if you might be able to help me on the phoenix fire front.”

He was telling her a partial truth at least. It was a job… Just not one he was getting paid for by anyone. But anyone would assume it was a hunting job. Which it also technically was. Still. He felt a bit bad getting the girl to help him out on this. But he couldn’t just go out with this untested. Everything had to go perfectly. Otherwise he’d never be rid of Mordred and his goons.

“Its a phoenix angel hybrid.” He’d prepared his excuse in advance. “Probably shouldn’t have taken on the job if I’m honest but… Well here I am.” He pulled out five squares of metal, each of varying hues but of the same general color. The lightest in hue was of a light gold material

He then pulled out a thickly padded bottle in his other hand. “Though now I think of it we should probably not just be doing this kind of stuff out here.” There were plenty of curious eyes at this academy. And to be frank he was a little worried of causing damage. Then again Ryse could put out the phoenix fire… But what about phoenix holy fire? “Maybe one of the alchemy classrooms that is set up to handle random fires.”

There might be an empty one if they were lucky… Normally at night there was. He hadn’t thought this far ahead. Damn it. He really had meant to, but he thought it woudl also take longer to find Ryse than it had. 

“Yes, but in a second.” Ozaki said after putting the metal squares on a surface meant for such experiments, each of them about a foot apart. Thankfully it hadn’t taken them too long to find a proper classroom.

He put the thickly padded bottle, then took a step back. “If you could open that and pour some of that holy oil over each one of them, that’d be appreciated. I’d do it myself but… Well… You know.” It would be best to not get the holy oil on himself.

Ozaki was already starting to put more space in between the metal squares and himself. Ten feet should probably do. He had even opened his umbrella just in case. 

Ozaki himself had been researching the matter himself. When it came to capturing phoenixes, there was already a material out there for that. Their cages were made of a special gold-mythyril alloy. He had combined that alloy with Infernal iron. One of the few non-holy oriented things that could defend against holy energies. If he could have his weapon of choice blessed it might be easier… And cheaper. But as a vampire that was not an option.

If she asked he’d be more than happy to tell her. While teaching in front of a classroom would be too daunting, he did love rambling on about various bits of things he had learned. Granted it might be a bit awkward to ramble about ways to capture phoenixes but… Well if she asked she was probably curious?

The first one she threw it at was the one with the most phoenix fire proofing done to it. At 4/5 of the gold-mythril alloy, it would likely be the least damaged, at least by the phoenix fire. The orange phoenix fire lit up the metal square, rapidly changing hues to a blue holy fire that blazed brightly even for its dimness.

Ozaki’s umbrella was out in front of him shielding any exposed skin from the blazing light within an instant, a movement so quick you would have missed it if you blinked.

It flared brightly for about five seconds, then went out. The metal square was not entirely melted, but it was warped into a bit of a puddle at the bottom. The fire hadn’t been hot enough to entirely annihilate it.

When the light died down Ozaki peeked out from behind his umbrella, eyeing the metal block. “Are you using the same kind of fire you would use to revive yourself?” He asked curiously. “Or is it a more combat oriented one?” He knew that depending on a phoenix’s talent those flames could be more or less damaging or less hot. “We’ll want to test with both kinds in order to see if the metal is study enough… I mean if you have enough time that is.”

He wouldn’t want her missing any classes on his account.

“The rebirthing kind.” His head tilted in hearing that Ryse wasn’t sure if she had access or was using the rebirthing flame. Wouldn’t she have a monthly cycle like other phoenixes? Perhaps not if she were not a pure phoenix. “I would assume it would be much like the flames you would experience during your monthly molting. If… you experience that… Probably not exactly like I suppose but… They are kin to one another… Ish.”

Revival flame and the flames produced by molting were a bit different, but they were close. Similar enough, maybe, to count towards what he was hoping to reproduce in the theoretical scenario where his father remotely triggered a phoenix down to revive himself. He’d done his research, but he did not want to assume himself the expert on pheonixes when one was standing right in front of him.

He was relieved at least to hear she did not have classes to worry about. “Well they’re made of of three different metals. One of these metals is a mythril-gold alloy which is usually used in… Well… Cages for phoenixes. Criminal types usually.” He rubbed at the back of his head, ruffling the hair there… “Its completely phoenix fire proof.”

One thing Ryse might notice, that Ozaki’s roleplayer forgot to mention… It appeared as though he had gotten a hair cut since the last time Ryse and him had met. “The other type is infernal iron. Its component materials can only be found in hell, and are useful against fighting holy-types. Its one of the few materials that isn’t blessed, holy, or silver in origin that can be used against divine beings.”
