“He’s… He’s my father….. The target…”
The words rang in Ryse’s head, and she grew visibly still. Questions spun in her mind like a tornado, worry and anxiety a maelstrom that tossed her back and forth like she was a small boat about to be swamped by a large wave. To those watching her, it would merely seem as though she was thinking. They wouldn’t see the chaos happening inside her head.
Why was his father a vampire hunter? Did his father know his son was a vampire? Did his father do something to make him so murderous towards him? How did his father have powers of a phoenix and an angel? Why would he want to kill his father? What if Ozaki gets hurt when he tries to do so? What if he gets kill--?
'If you are lost in a storm, Ryse,' Her mother’s words, spoken to her over and over again, interrupted her mad train of thought, 'the best thing you can do is sit down.'
Taking a step to the left, she reached out and grabbed ahold of the chair nearest her, sitting down. Took a few breaths, and calmed the questions racing in her head, grounding herself to the situation happening here and now. She just concentrated on breathing for a few moments, forcing herself to clear her mind. To logically think about what she'd been told instead of going off of raw emotion. As of the moment, two things clearly stood out to her.
One: Worrying wouldn't help the situation.
And Two: She didn’t deserve answers to these questions. She could tell that even telling her this much was hard for Ozaki.
“Thank you for telling me the truth.” The teenager finally replied, giving the vampire a small smile. “You don’t have to tell me anything else. I won’t ask you to share what you don’t want to.”
Yes. That was truly all she needed to know. She didn’t want to get involved in the vampire’s personal affairs, and he’d already told her as much as seemed to be able to at this point. There was no point in pushing him further. Perhaps, when things were calmer, she could ask him about it. But not right now. It was a conversation best saved for another day. Plus, he was an adult. He didn't have to share his entire life story to a girl like her who barely knew him, and she didn't expect him to.
