welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

He had been settling into his job all day: filing books, assisting those that came in, and doing whatever else he could do to keep himself as active as possible. He even attended a class as an observer and helper along the way. He kept himself busy to keep himself awake, the day time hours really being a challenge at times for the half breed. Even so he didn't mind as his new job gave him plenty to do until the night hours came and the calm of the world begin to settle all around. Students would be getting out of class or going to them if they were night students instead. The library would probably be used by study groups who whispered quietly enough to not disturb the man that sat behind the check out counter with a small journal in hand. He was quietly jotting down some notes and doodles as he let the time pass by quietly for now since nothing was moving about to disturb him.

Kaname had left her sword in her room. She was really unhappy to have to do that, but whatever. If it kept the staff off her back, she would grin and bear it. She planned on this being a quick in-and-out library run. All she needed to do was to find some information on Ghost/Human Hybrids.
Kaname calmly walked into the library with her backpack of school supplies. She wanted to find out how far back in history Ghost/Human Hybrids went. She wanted to know about their range of Talents and how long their lifespans were. With any luck this library would have exactly what she needed. She planned to avoid the library Ghost because the hybrid's presence might offend her... again.
Kaname wanted to spare the upperclassman the mind-numbing horror of excitable freshmen talking above a whisper, so she kept quiet. The hybrid walked between some shelves on Ancient History. She did not see the ghost anywhere. So far, so good. The silver-haired freshman began perusing the books for what she needed.

The school having its own library was a blessing in disguise. At least one place Sharaku could count on actually being moderately quiet at almost all times. Or so he would hope, albeit he found it doubtful that a lot of racket would be allowed in a library of any kind, honestly. That was simply not a party gathering area, no matter how one looked at it. Nevertheless, to double his chances further, he chose to stop by at late hours, which made it even less likely for him to encounter someone exceptionally obnoxious. Those who wanted to be loud in the evening wouldn't go do it in a library. Right...?
In any case, the pale gray skinned young man would shuffle himself inside, pausing briefly to take a quick look around to assess the state of the library, debating whether he wanted to go on a blind hunt for books that he had no real idea about the placement of. It wouldn't take too long for him to decide it wasn't worth his time, and saunter over to the counter to simply ask the person in charge here instead of performing a hunt by himself. It would save him a bunch of effort, he didn't doubt that much. "Hey."

Kaname had located three books, all of them heavy books that were bound in brown leather. One was titled A History of Hybrids. The second was titled A New List of Ghosts. The third and final book was named Spectral Phenomena Over The Centuries. They were going to be heavy reading in more ways than one.
The silver-haired girl slowly lugged them over to an empty table near the back of the library. She did not want to be disturbed while conducting the research. She expected the Ghost to pop up and start making noise to get revenge on the freshman for what happened with the study group. Oh well. Kaname had better be quick about her research.
She sat down in a chair, pulled out a notebook and a pencil, and pried open A History of Hybrids. This was going to take awhile. It was a good thing that Kaname had nothing else to do tonight.

The quiet half breed would continue to do what he was doing pausing only when one of the students came into the library. Ah it was the girl from the defense and combat class from earlier. He would watch as she went about getting lost in the Ancient History section of the library. How strange for a child to want to go into that section, but perhaps she was one of the few that had an appetite for heavier things than others her age. In any case, he would let her do what she wanted for now deciding not to bother her. Going back to his notes, he stretched his wings a bit before leaning over to finish the drawing, but would stop as soon as his pen touched the paper again. There was another entering the library and unlike the child, this one decided to interact with him.
He would hear the familiar voice and look up at the taller young man before him. "Good evening, Sharaku. How may I be of service?" he would ask as he watched the other before him with a faint smile waiting to see what he had to say.
While his attention was on the older student, it would seem the younger one had found the books she wanted and took a seat in the library in a place she thought she would be alone; however, at this time of night ghost did like to wander and a small child like one became curious as the strange girl sat at her table. Blinking the ghost would watch the other open one of the large tombs she had with her and begin to study. But study what? the child wondered before hopping quietly off her seat and going over to the remainder of the books the other had.
Tiptoeing as she held her teddy bear, she would try to read the title of the book, but just couldn't see. Boo. She would frown as she shifted the bear to one arm and reached up to tilt the book towards her. Granted, the ghost did this all while she was invisible so to anyone watching would see a chair tremble on its own and a book would tilt of its own accord. Of course, a child such as she had no clue what she was doing was unusual at all.

Kaname had reached a section that explained the history of Ghost/Human hybrids and was reading it carefully. According to the text, Ghost/Human Hybrids had been around for as long as humans had. They also had no particular homeland; they appeared wherever humans lived. That information was not very detailed, but it was helpful because it reassured her that her species was not a recent development. Kaname's people (for want of a better term) had a lengthy history. Many hundreds of Ghost/Human Hybrids had been created during the great war that happened many years ago. That was no surprise to her. She too had been initiated into the species by premature death. Kaname was reading on when the book suddenly shifted and tilted towards the edge of the table. Was it Olivia's doing?
No. It was the doing of a small ghost girl clutching a teddy bear and standing in a chair. Kaname saw her thanks to her Spiritual Awareness, an ability that let her see supernatural phenomena that normal people missed. The ghost child was mildly creepy, but it was more sad to Kaname than anything else. In a perfect world, Ghost children would not even exist. They would live to adulthood and then die of old age. But the world was full of vicious and cruel people who would not hesitate to hurt and murder children if they stood to benefit from doing so. Two years ago Kaname learned that fact firsthand. She had gotten closure when the thief tripped and stabbed himself with the very sword he had stolen, but many ghosts were not so fortunate.
"Hi there." Kaname whispered to the ghostly little girl.

The Vamp Wolf | Sharaku would offer the man behind the counter a flat expression for the most part, not really reacting to the fact that he was addressed by his name right off the bat. Not that he needed to anyway, as far as he was aware. "I was going to look up books on hand to hand combat and I figured-", he would pause there, as he noticed something weird going on in the back of the library. He wasn't certain as to what he was seeing, but it was clearly not the most normal thing. Sure, he had heard some offhand rumors about ghosts haunting around this place before, but he had been skeptical about how true they were. A library was such a bad place for a ghost to be at, since those who came here didn't do it to be disturbed and interrupted by random weirdness. Why was this okay again? He'd squint at the girl who was sitting there with a book, and now seemingly interacting with whatever that was, before opting to finish what he had been saying. "...I just thought it would be faster to ask than to search high and low for where such books are. That said...", he'd incline his head towards that strange interaction going on, "Is this a daily occurrence, and is it okay?"

The little ghost would continue to observe the book not really understanding the writing there thanks to her age, but she suppose due to how heavy the book was it was about something important. The little ghost would continue to observe the book before resting it back on the pile. She was on the edge of hopping down off the chair she was on, but stopped as she felt someone was watching her and a few seconds later she was being spoken to! The ghost blinked in shock as she looked over at the girl by her. "You...You can see me?" she would ask as she tilted her head more used to screams or running than a greeting.
Meanwhile back at the desk, Rika would meet the flat look with a neutral one of his own waiting patiently enough for an answer. The other would begin speaking, but pause as he was distracted by the going ons in the library. Looking away from the other and around him, Rika would spot the source of distraction, but wouldn’t react all that much as he flicked his tail and watched. He had heard rumors of ghosts living in this particular part of the school when he had signed up and even encountered some during the day when he was organizing more isolated parts of the library. They didn’t bother him as they mostly hung on top of the shelves observing him rather than doing anything mischievous to bother him. So one could say, the half breed was already quite used to his company that liked to fade in and out of existence.
That aside, he would turn his attention back to the other as he finished his inquiry. “Hand-to-hand combat, huh. Well we do have some books on that,” the creature would say as he closed the journal and stood up. “I can show you where they are,” he would say as he shifted to move from behind the counter. As he did he would hear the question posed and shake his head a bit. “I cannot say how often the ghost interact with others, but their sighting is quite common here. As long as neither of them make too much noise or a mess I do not mind this happening.”

The ghostly child looked at Kaname with curiosity. It seemed that she was unused to someone interacting with her in a way that did not involve running away and screaming. The little girl looked at her. She finally spoke.
"You... you can see me?" The child asked. "Yeah. I'm a Ghost too. Well, technically a half-Ghost." Kaname whispered her answer in the affirmative. She began to read through the rest of the book. It mostly repeated itself and did not say anything new or of interest, so Kaname cut to the chase and flipped to the back of the book for a list of references. She jotted down the names of authors and the names of a few books of interest to peruse in the future.
She gently closed A History of Hybrids and opened A New List Of Ghosts. She was interested to see what knowledge the second tome had to offer. The ghostly child was still standing nearby.

“A half-ghost. Oooh I’ve heard of your type, but this is the first I’ve met one,” the little ghost said in a soft tone as she plopped down in the chair and watched the girl read one book before moving to another. She would frown a bit as she used her free hand to scratch her head. “Whatcha looking for?” she would ask after a while wondering what had the other’s attention so.
Back with the other two, Rika would begin to lead the way towards the section of books the man desired, giving a light nod to the other short response as he moved like a ghost through the wide open space of the library towards the far right hand shelves. “Ghosts can be disturbing, but the one with the ghost isn’t screaming or causing a ruckus, so I do not see a need to interfere. And the ghost is surprisingly quiet. Makes me wonder if it is just not a reading ghost. I’ll check on things in a bit if it lingers too long,” the half breed would say as he continued to move. Yes ghosts could be a disturbance to those who entered; however, as long as the reaction wasn’t negative towards the ghost and causing a true disturbance in the other wise quiet place, Rika saw no need to interfere with the matters letting others handle the ghost how they would. That choice couldn’t go to off the rails now could it?

"I'm trying to find out things like how long us hybrids live." Kaname whispered truthfully. It was kind of morbid, but the hybrid had to know roughly how long she had to live. She searched through the book until she found the section on the lifespan of Ghost/Human Hybrids. Kaname was interested, but she was also afraid to look. From the moment she opened the book there was no turning back.
"Ghost/Human Hybrids have a lifespan that is roughly five times that of baseline humans. It appears that their brush with death somehow slows down their physical aging, as if Death was trying to compensate the individual for the lifespan they would have lost if their death was permanent. The oldest recorded Ghost/Human Hybrid was verified to have lived in a remote region of Hisakawa for a thousand years before his second and final passing, but his case was a rare one." The text read. Kaname had mixed emotions about that information. On one hand, she would see much over the course of her greatly extended lifetime. On the other hand, her parents would die long before she did. Pushing back her emotions, Kaname read more of the book.

“How long they live?” the child would repeat softly using her free hand to tap her chin as she looked up at the ceiling in thought. “Well us ghosts live forever, but humans die relatively fast. So perhaps the life span is somewhere between eternity and human life span. Meaning you’ll live a long life,” the child would finish with a nod and smile as she looked back over at the girl that was reading the book again. Hmmm…
Meanwhile…
“I don’t think we have control of where a ghost resides or not. They are creatures that appear and disappear as they like, haunting places they want to haunt. While I am sure there are ways to guard against this, I don’t think you can keep them out fully if they want in,” the undead was a strange bunch so it was hard to say at times. “As for the library being the wrong spot, well what spot is really appropriate for them. They’re going to cause a stir no matter where they are unless they are docile in some form or another.” True the presence of a ghost made things more tricky and interesting, but what was one to truly do about them? Unlike humans getting rid of ghost wasn’t an easy task after all.

"Yeah, you're right. I can certainly afford to play the long game. Assuming I'm not killed again, I've got at least a good 486 years before I die for real." Kaname said to her ghostly companion. If she were lucky, she could figure out how to live for a thousand years like that guy from Hisakawa. Maybe this book had some more useful information. Kaname read on.
"Ghost/Human Hybrids also physically mature at a slower rate than baseline Humans. This delayed aging can be a blessing and a curse. Scientists are busy studying ways to slow aging in humans." The book added. Kaname frowned. That would make future romantic relationships harder because she would be kind of small for a long time. She would also look younger than a boyfriend and draw a lot of unpleasant questions to the both of them. Thankfully the hybrid was not interested in romance at the moment, so that issue could be safely avoided for awhile.
Kaname browsed on in the hopes of learning something else useful about her species. What she wanted to learn the most was what range of Talents was available to Ghost/Human Hybrids. She wondered if they could learn anything or if their Talents were all based around Ghost powers.
