welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Tags Word Count Anything It has been about two and a half weeks since Natalie enrolled at the Eldritch Academy. The entire area of Mystopolis was always bustling and it never allowed a moment of boredom; always something new to see and do. In short, it was a rather lively city Natalie could enjoy staying in until the end of her studies at the Eldritch Academy. Then... perhaps... she could pursue her dream of being a singer or... something along those lines? Even though Mystopolis was rather lively it was missing that... something- pretty much like every city to be honest. It was missing that air of nature and freedom. Chirping of birds, feel of a gentle breeze on your skin, smell of the grass and forests, stunning scenery of the mountains- everything that nature had to offer.
The weekend has arrived. Saturday morning to be precise. It was around 8 AM, sunny and warm weather. Forecast did not mention any changes for the next few days. Natalie decided she would take a short break from the regular coffee shop visits and spend some of her day having a walk and enjoying the wilderness and all of its scenery. She took her bag, filled with food and drinks, phone with GPS on and few tools in case she might need them. According to the books nature has positive effects on mental health- not like she had any issues there, but would definitely improve her mood even more. She left a message on the door to her room in Orchid dorms- if she had any visitors they would know where she was.
Natalie described on the message from which point she was starting her little Saturday adventure so if anyone was willing to tag along they certainly would. She made only a handful of friends so she did not expect any of them to show up- they probably had other activities to handle, but she was not opposed to a teamed-up wilderness exploration.
From what it seemed, Natalie entered a forest on the western side of Mystopolis. Further that path were the mountains, but she doubted she'd go that far. Forest was not too thick so it would be difficult to get lost unless one tried to. "Ah, fresh air!" Natalie exclaimed happily. "This beats strolling in the city any day!" She said to herself in excitement. A stroll through the nature was very good for health, but that was not the only reason why Natalie was here- she was also aiming to try out a variant usage of her Talent in nature and see what response she may get.
[OOC: No worries about the 'training'. Natalie might use her voice on the fauna in the nature from time to time- she won't bother. Promise. Feel free to approach however you'd like.]

Carrying her sword with the aid of her Conceal ability, Kaname strode into the wilderness on the western side of Mystopolis. She needed to learn to get a handle on it before it got a handle on her. It was starting to twist her personality. A few days ago she was rude to a college student who did not mean her any harm and was not there to spy on her when she was researching the sword. Kaname deeply regretted that incident... that was not who she was.
However, it seemed like the hybrid was known by the sword and only by the sword. That was the price one paid for having a signature item. Kaname would just have to come to terms with that like she had come to terms with her Ghost/Human Hybrid status. Kaname carried her sword since she did not know if any wild animals were on the loose. She also did not know if any serial killers were stalking the woods looking for their next victim.
They would not have an easy time killing her again. She was armed and she knew how to use the weapon. She was also a ghost, so it would be a lot harder to kill her the second time around. Kaname kept walking until she spotted the tall dark-haired girl from the coffee shop standing in the distance. Kaname paused. She felt like she did not belong here. Maybe she should turn around, go home, and save the wilderness trek for another day.

Tags Word Count Anything Something was slightly off. Natalie was not entirely sure, but she could swear she heard a sound- was someone there or was it just another sound coming from the nature? She slowly turned around where she assumed direction of the sound was coming from. "Oh..." She muttered. It actually was someone after all- and a familiar face as well.
"Hello there!" Natalie waved with a smile towards the girl. It was the same girl from several days before; Natalie met her inside this small and comfy coffee shop along with few other interesting and nice individuals. "Kaname, am I right? What brings you here?" Natalie inquired with curiosity as she made few steps towards the girl. Did she come for a stroll? Or perhaps she wanted to train as well? She seemed like a diligent type of person so it would not be a big surprise to Natalie.

Kaname was surprised that the taller girl remembered her name. Then again, Kaname had garnered a degree of infamy on campus by carrying her sword around. It was going to be a hard reputation to shake, but she did not care about it too much. People would think what they wanted to think. They were also afraid that their privileged positions would be threatened by the freshman who actually studied and trained her Talent.
"Yes, my name's Kaname." Kaname confirmed. "I'm out here because I'm tired of being on campus all the time. I'm also out here for other reasons, namely this one. I want to train with it." Kaname replied before dropping the Conceal and showing the scabbard with sword inside. She was worried that the tall girl would run away or fear for her safety. Kaname decided to be honest with the other student to minimize the possibility of her fearing for her life.
"I'm going to go far away with it, so don't worry." The hybrid informed the other girl.

Tags Word Count Anything So Kaname was going to train somewhere in the wilderness. It was a reasonable choice of training grounds; nothing in or around the campus is sufficient for 'real' combat training. Real ones implied an immense amount of damage and potential dangers on people involved so wilderness was a more reasonable option. While Natalie was here to relax herself for a while she did intend to attempt her own training using her Angel Voice on flora and fauna of the wilderness.
"Oh, what a coincidence." Natalie responded. "I decided to take a bit of a breather myself and, perhaps... do a bit of training with my Talent." She explained. Her Talent did work differently if used on flora and fauna. She could experience things such as feeling animal's power inside her mind- almost as if she had taken the power, but she would never go past that. She believed this could not be a coincidence, but she did not have opportunities to practice it either. "Won't be back for a while... so... would you mind if I tag along with you? I would feel a bit safer with a strong warrior on my side." Natalie inquired offering Kaname to be alongside her.

"Sure. I'll tag along with you." Kaname said to the taller girl. Someone actually wanted her around? That was nothing short of amazing. It was nice to feel like someone wanted to be around her for reasons other than because they shared a campus. Even though it was not entirely free of self-interest, the hybrid did not care why the other person wanted her around. "Just so you know, this is my first time in these woods. We might wanna leave markers of some sort so that we can find our way out again." Kaname suggested. It would suck to get lost in the woods. It would suck even worse to get lost and die in them.

Tags Word Count Anything Wilderness was spacious and beautiful, but it had its fair share of dangers. While Natalie can use her Talent to protect herself she definitely does not mind having someone else who actually knows how to fight by her side. Plus, Kaname seemed like a very nice people one can get along with just fine so having such companion on this trip would prove to be enjoyable. And since Natalie did plan on using her Angel Voice for purpose of the training perhaps Kaname would enjoy to hear it, too... maybe... who knows. She never showed it to anyone on the academy.
"Oh, I've got the GPS so no worries." Natalie responded and showed her phone to Kaname. She was geared up not to get lost here- out of all things it would not be wise to not have some sort of plan when traveling through wilderness. "Hope you don't mind if I... uh... sing from time to time... it is a training to my Talent." Natalie said as she began to advance slowly in the direction she was originally intending to go through.

"You have a GPS device? Sweet. Now we don't have to leave a trail of breadcrumbs." Kaname commented. As long as the batteries for that precious device lasted, the pair would be able to find their way out again. That was a good thing. Kaname did not know her way around the woods and neither dd her companion. They would have to take all precautions to keep the GPS device intact. "I don't mind if you sing along the way. It's your trip. I just happened to show up and get invited to come along for the ride." Kaname voiced her consent to the taller girl. At least the older student was nice enough to ask before singing. Some people were not that nice.

Tags Word Count Anything Now that the arrangement was done they could go on with their journey. Natalie did not know Kaname that well, but she seemed like a rather interesting young girl; judging by her willingness to train in the wilderness and her behavior it was safe to assume she had lots of things going on in her background. Perhaps it would not hurt to get to know her a bit better; Natalie does not like to stick her nose where it does not belong, but her curiosity is sometimes greater than her patience.
She started walking along the path in the forest. The path was relatively easy to follow, but it was covered in floral life which shows it is not used too often. Safe to say that odds of running into anyone in this forest were rather slim, but possibility could not be excluded. While traveling both of Natalie and Kaname could absorb the captivating scent of the nature they found themselves in; while there were no clearings or mesmerizing sceneries to see yet the forest itself looked rather nice and healthy. Luckily, no 'intelligent life' decided it would be a good idea to build a factory here or something like that. Natalie was pretty sure she was going to like it here; a perfect place to unwind after studying and exams.
Natalie activated her Angel Voice. Kaname said she would not mind if Natalie was singing. Natalie did not plan to sing just yet; she was merely warming up by humming here and there hoping to see any reactions from the nature itself. While she was not receiving any direction reactions she could sense something- as if there was some sort of ethereal energy surging through her with every hum.
After a few minutes of doing this Natalie figured it would be very awkward if they continued going on with Natalie just humming along the way. She did not know exactly how to break the ice, but it did not stop her to try. "I haven't seen you in some time. How have you been?" She asked.

"I've been OK. Mostly." Kaname replied to the question. She was far from OK. She was trying to discover what her sword was and why it affected her personality whenever she was without it. A few days ago Rika had posed a very good question. Was the sword living or was it not living?
"I've been trying to improve my Talent and get better control over it. It's been... slow." Kaname added to her previous statement in a less than optimistic tone of voice. The truth was the hybrid was trying to improve upon it because she would be going up against older and more experienced peers in combat classes. She needed something to level the playing field against those with stronger Talents.
"I've also been researching my species. That's been going a little better, but not by much. Progress is kinda slow." Kaname finished her assessment of how she was doing. She had learned a grab bag of facts, and not all of them were comforting. In exchange for a longer lifespan, Kaname's physical aging was slower than normal. That meant that she would look like a preteen well into her twenties, possibly even thirties. That would make romantic relationships rather awkward, if not impossible, until she eventually aged up into a "young adult" look.

Tags Word Count Anything Kaname was clearly not as ok as she claimed to be judging by the information she shared moments later. On top of the studies, training and research into the race she must have been overburdened by many other things as well. Must have many different things she was dealing with. Perhaps it was for the best for her to continue training with the Talent; if she could get a better grasp of her powers maybe her perspectives about it could become clearer.
"Sounds like you have a lot on your plate." Natalie affirmed. Though, it was not a situation one should take lightly or take entirely by themselves. Natalie was probably not the best option out there, but she had an urge to come to one's aid if she deemed it necessary. "Say... is there anything I could do to make it easier for you? Even tiny bit?" Natalie inquired.

"If you know some good books on Ghost/Human Hybrids, that would help a lot. I've been researching on my own, but I haven't found very many promising sources. Most of the sources I did find were really outdated." Kaname said to her traveling companion. The books in the library helped some, but they used a lot of academic jargon and were clearly written for academics. She could make sense of them, but the process was time-consuming. She was preparing for college, where being able to decipher books written for academics was not only a good skill to have, but it was also a requirement.
"As you probably know, outdated sources of information aren't very good." Kaname lamented.

Tags Word Count Anything Far from fortunate, Natalie did not have or know any sources of the sort. Ghost/human hybrids? Natalie never knew such beings existed and where she comes from claiming someone is a ghost or some hybrid of it would put you in a mental hospital. The world is very much magical, but there are plenty of people who would not believe in one without a very good proof. Natalie herself did not believe ghosts even existed until she met Kaname... well... not like Kaname gave her any proof of being a ghost, but still... it is a magical academy so she figured it probably was truth.
"Well... only thing I have are books and movies with ghost stories, but... I am not very positive fiction would be of any help." Natalie responded awkwardly. There was not much she could do with resources she had at the moment, but it would not stop her to try. "But if I come across anything useful I'll make sure to give you a call." She promised.
"But if I can help you train your Talent anyhow I'd be happy to. I have something in mind, but I am not sure if you would like it or not." Natalie informed. She had an idea which Kaname might use to improve herself even more, but that idea required Natalie to improve herself as well which was, partially, a goal of this journey. If she succeeded she could do something for Kaname, but it was up to the ghost girl whether she wanted to take Natalie up on that offer or not.

"I don't think the media will help very much. I'll keep looking, but if you come across any substantial leads I'd appreciate it if you kicked them my way." Kaname said appreciatively to her. The academy library's books had a few decent sources among all the old, outdated ones. She would follow those leads until the trail went cold. In the meantime, Kaname's attention turned to the offer to help train her Talent.
"If you're willing to help, I'd appreciate it. Training my Talent on my own is going slowly. Fighting training dummies isn't doing too much for me." Kaname gratefully accepted Natalie's offer.

Tags Word Count Anything Kaname accepted Natalie's offer. Natalie was happy she could provide some aid. With everything Kaname had on her plate it just felt wrong not to try and give her a hand... Nature of her problems was far from anything Natalie ever had- she had her share of problems as a child and a teenager, but nothing so deep- something that goes into existential roots. Of course, humans are very common and her powers are nothing she needs to hone for combat so she would not fully understand Kaname's pain. That did not stop her from trying though.
"Haha... Then I'll do my best to help you train, Kaname." Natalie responded to that with a smile. She had the right motivation, but now she needed the resources. As mentioned earlier Natalie did have to fulfill the point of her journey to successfully help Kaname- if she is to finish developing, what she believed was, another Talent of hers then it would prove to be of use for training.
The nature of that Talent apparently required Natalie to use Angel Voice, but it was not classified under same Talent. Before she arrived to the academy Natalie could sometimes take on properties of nature onto herself by channeling ethereal energy with her Angel Voice. However, that would happen randomly and she could only gain bits of control over the years and it could not be classified as a second talent yet but a part of Angel Voice. That was why she was determined to train it, but with Kaname's cause involved she believed there was even more of a reason to learn how to control it.
"If I want to give you all my help then it would only be fair I get my tools ready." Natalie said sarcastically implying it to her Talent. "Once you see a spot you'd like to use, please, tell me." Natalie said and then her Angel Voice began to manifest. She was humming and then singing what seemed like... lullabies from children's books. Some of them were in German and French. Some were referring to the guidance of wind. Natalie sure had unusual 'arsenal' of songs by her side. She could sense the reaction from nature and while nothing was coming to her immediately she was certain she was on the right path. Hopefully, she was correct. And if nothing else, perhaps Kaname could relax with some of her soothing songs... unless it was not Kaname's type of relaxation.
