welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

To say that Oras was frustrated would be beyond an understatement. He was furious. Hateful. All of this being towards his summoner. This all had started when she exploited the weakness of his where he needed someone in order to remain here on this world, and that he needed to do something here. She exploited that, threatening to send him back. Even worse, the only reason she summoned him was for research purposes. She didn't want his help with whatever her goals were. And now, despite him insisting staying by her side, she keeps finding new ways to ditch him! Whether it was just outright telling him she wanted him to give her time to herself, to leave her alone. Or whether it was vanishing the second he looked away. She was making it very clear she didn't want his help, his protection, or his company. In fact. He was beginning to think she didn't actually care about anyone.
The Atranoch was approaching the training grounds. He wasn't in the mood to have to deal with obnoxious people who would try getting him in trouble for not following very strict guidelines or some shit. However he was pissed off when his suspicions were confirmed to see no one in the area. This was why he made his challenge over in the courtyard. He had even told the individual that this would happen. No one was here and thus no one could duel him, let alone would. Which would mean he'd need to make his own enemies. However that just wouldn't do. He'd get no exercise, practice out of it, and hitting immobile objects would not help him calm down. He drew and swung his sword as he roared his frustrations out, unleashing a massive blast of energy which cut into the ground. Not only did it freeze the entire surface, but it actually left a long crack in it.
"Damn that witch. Damn her to hell..."

The Grim/Phoenix hybrid walked along the path hands in her pockets. There was an unusually subdued look on her face, and her eyes were dark. She'd just gotten a letter from her mother that told her about the festivities happening back at her home. The house had been decorated, the tree lit up with lights and decorations, and the small altar of Vissarion they had had been decorated with candles and a few ribbons. Normally the two of them would decorate together. She herself had decorated her own dorm room, but it wasn't the same as doing so with her mother.
And though the letter had been cheerful, there was a line which made her worry. Her mother tended to leave things out of her letters, but she knew the phoenix well enough to be able to read between the lines of those pretty cursive words. To know that things weren't exactly as happy as the letter implied.
'I had to start decorating a bit late this year...' The letter had said.
They always decorated on the same day every year, without fail. To cause her mother to be late in starting it.... it made her wonder what had happened. She hoped nobody had vandalized their home again. It wouldn't have been the first time.
Breaking away from her thoughts, she found that she had wandered into the training grounds. Luckily for her, nobody was in the area. Good. She didn't want to deal with anyone right now.
It was then that she saw Oras there, watching him unleash a torrent of ice which froze the surface of the ground and created a crack in the ground. It looked like he wanted to break something. Hopefully not her.

The Atranoch hadn't noticed her and instead started letting the anger loose. The wind picked up a bit as the snow around him swirled. "Wretched b****. Who does she think she IS?!" He shouted, sending all the snow in the area towards the ground like a massive blade. Cutting it up and cracking the ice. "Exploiting my weakness. Abusing my position? Denying the ONE THING I ASK?!" He sent it in another direction, only this time the amount of snow had doubled. And there were a few shards of ice in it too. This time the cracks kept spreading for a bit. "And above all she sees me as nothing but a RESEARCH SUBJECT?! She's lucky I need her or else!" He swung the mass of snow and ice in another direction but his eyes widened suddenly and he halted it's motion. Stopping only two inches away from Ryse's face... how long was she standing there?! He quickly shifted his face to a smirk, and stood up straight taking a calm posture instantly.
"Well well well, if it isn't the little Puppird~ How you doing? You desperate to train that you'd come here after class?"

Ryse shrunk backwards as the snow and ice nearly hit her, taking a step backwards to avoid being hit. But luckily Oras had stopped it in time, and she only felt cold air swirl in her direction. Despite the warm clothes she had on, she shivered a bit.
Did..... she just hear Oras cussing out his summoner?? And what was this about him being her research project?! She had never met his summoner, but she was sure she never wanted to. If his summoner saw him as a research project, who knew what she'd think of her.
Then she heard Oras call her Puppird.
'Puppird'.... she hated that nickname. Why did the Atronach keep calling her that?
She scowled in annoyance at Oras. "Don't call me that!" She snapped. She was already in a bad mood, she did not need a snarky Atronach with an ego the size of Mystopolis making it even worse. "I didn't come here to train. I didn't mean to come here in the first place, actually. I was just walking; I didn't exactly want to be around people. And it looks like you don't want to either."

He grinned widely when she reacted to him calling her Puppird. "But why would I not? It's exactly what you are. Would you rather me call you something you're not? That would be stupid if you ask me... Well considering your intelligence that wouldn't be far from the truth..." When she told him that she wasn't coming here on purpose, and just happened to wander here. He wondered if someone was looking out for him after all. When she stated that he didn't want people around him too (or at least that was what it seemed like) he laughed hard. "What? Wow, hell no. Quite the opposite!" He raised his hand and a massive spear of ice shot directly at her. Whether she dodged or melted it he didn't care. As long as the message came across.. "I came here looking for someone to fight Puppird. You're nothing more than a morning exercise, but I suppose you'll do."
With that Oras charged forward. The first thing he did was create Form 4 ice. This ice being highly resistant to flames and high temperatures. He formed the ice directly beneath her in a way that would launch her into the air. If she transformed, he'd do the same and charge her in mid air with his sword. If she didn't, he'd dash forward and reach to touch her after turning his entire body into form 4 ice. The second he touched her, he would drain some of her speed and give himself some.

"I'm not stupid!" Ryse growled, the air around her visibly shimmering from the heat her body gave off.
And gave a startled 'eep' as she dodged the sudden ice spear shooting at her. She quickly sidestepped it, but wasn't expecting to be thrown into the air by the ice that formed under her feet a moment later. She wasn't thrown very high into the air, just high enough for it to make it hurt when she landed on the ground again.
"Ow...."
'You've got to be kidding me.' She thought as she got back on her feet, narrowly dodging Oras's next attack as he tried to touch her, making the air around her searing hot to keep him away from her.
"I don't want to fight you, idiot!" She yelled, her hands clenching into fists. What was he trying to do in fighting her? Couldn't he tell that she wasn't in the mood for this? Fighting wasn't going to make her feel any better.

He listened to her scream that she wasn't stupid and he couldn't help but laugh in return. "Oh yeah? Well I look forward to seeing you prove it peanut brain!" However when he went to actually fight her, she didn't seem to be putting up much of a fight whatsoever. She let herself get knocked around here and there. When she stood up again she yelled at him she didn't want to fight him. Oras could feel the heat and his eyes narrowed... It was a coin toss at this point. On one hand he'd probably be receiving a lot of damage to his body if he kept pushing. On another hand, if he could touch her... He decided it wasn't worth it, and instead shoved his sword to her, aiming to graze her skin as he passed her by. He would have escaped the heat range just before gaining any permanent damage.
"Well then you're in for a bad day! CAUSE I AM!!" Oras turned around and placed his hand on the ground, creating hundreds of ice spears and thrusting them at her from all around.

Was hetrying to kill her?! Because that's what it seemed like to Ryse. Someone didn't launch hundreds of ice spears at them because they wanted them to have a friendly sparring match. Moving her hands in a swift movement, she created a sphere of fire around her which would melt the ice.
Except that the ice wasn't melting as fast as she thought it would. She was forced to duck and dodge in order to avoid being hit by the ice spears. Many of them did indeed melt, but she flinched as some of them scratched her as they passed her, shattering on the ground. Glaring angrily at Oras, she hurled a fireball at the Atronach.
"What are you trying to do, you jerk?! Do you want to kill me?!" She demanded. What was his problem?! Yes, he was upset about his summoner, but that was no reason to take it out on her!

Watching her react to the effects. To her being hit a few times before hurling a fireball at him. Was interesting to say the least, but he didn't care much for talking. Not at least, until their little spar was done. Oras let himself fall backwards, pulling his arms behind him to catch the ground. When the fireball passed over, he pushed up and backflipped onto his feet again. "Oh! My apologies, I guess you're not very strong then? I should have guessed seeing as how all you're good at is dying over and over again, and chasing cars. OH! And sniffing butts. Nibbling bones... Want me to go on?" He was NOT about to let her get out of this without a good fight. He decided to use a tactic he learned from the Nurse not long ago. He wanted to taunt her into charging, and the second she did so, he would engulf her in Form 4 Ice. When she was trapped he'd mock her a bit more before she was finally ready to fight for real.

The fire blazed hotter around her as she glared so furiously at the Atronach he should've melted where he stood. She wanted to launch another fireball at him for his comments, but she knew that would only spur him on. She was having a bad day already... why couldn't he just be nice to her?
She had had enough of his attitude today. And she wasn't going to deal with it.
Taking a breath, she extinguished the fire around her, and looked the Atronach in the eyes. "I know you're having a hard time right now, and so am I. But I already said I wasn't going to fight you. And I meant it. You can launch ice spears at me all you want. But I'm not going to fight with you."
She turned her back on the Atronach, crossing her arms. "However.... if you'd like to talk about whatever you're dealing with, then I'm all ears. I won't tell a soul."
Even though Oras was mean to her, she wasn't the kind of person to abandon someone who was having a hard time. That just wasn't how she was. Some people might call her naive or too nice, but she didn't see anything wrong with offering kindness to others.... even if those people were arrogant ice creatures.

To his honest surprise, she reacted in the exact opposite manner she usually did. Oras' eyes would widen slightly, showing how he hadn't anticipated said reaction. Afterwards however he'd stand up straight and fold his own arms, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. So.. She wasn't letting herself be baited anymore? Or perhaps it was this time in particular because she had seen his... Outburst? His forefinger tapped a few times before he spoke. "Well well, looks like you're maturing a little bit. Maybe one day you'll grow from a little pup into a dog~ Though, I'll still be calling you puppird mind you. Only good nickname as puppog is horrible." He listened to her tell him that she knew he was anger, however she would not be participating in any combat or fight whatsoever. She then offered to talk about whatever it was he was dealing with, and that she would never tell a soul.
His expression was unreadable. Suddenly a single spear would appear from behind and cut both her arm and cheek at the exact same time. If she didn't rage (which he doubted) he'd shrug. "Had to check. Well then," he said, letting the walls and spears dissolve. Only after all this did he realize how much energy he had consumed... Creating massive walls like that took a lot out of him. If he had kept going he would probably have made himself seriously vulnerable. "How about this then? Let's ask each other one question until one of us decides to stop it. To make it fair, even if we call it off we both will have to had asked the same amount of questions. Sound good?" If she agreed he would ask his first question.
"Alright then. Explain to me what it is that's bothering you that would cause you to come seeking isolation?"

Glancing at Oras revealed that he'd stopped attacking her, and was just standing there looking at her. He even seemed a little surprised. Which was good for her. It meant he wouldn't be throwing any more ice spears at-
She jerked as a spear cut her arm and cheek, and whirled around to face the Atronach. "Ow! What was that for?!"
Conjuring a small amount of fire in her hands once again, she gently pressed it to her arm and cheek. As Oras would see, the fire would change color to blue. She closed her eyes for a minute, silent. When she pulled her hands away again, her cuts were no longer bleeding, but there was a visible mark where the ice had caused the injuries. She did the same thing to the cuts she'd received from Oras's earlier attack. When she was done the flames dissipated, leaving her hands empty.
Her anger faded away as she listened to the Atronach's request, and she narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. It meant that he was willing to talk to her at least, instead of trying to force her to fight him. She might be able to get some answers out of him. Finally she nodded. "I'll agree on two conditions. One: When we ask questions, the other person has to answer them; no avoiding it. And Two: We must answer them truthfully." She knew that Oras could easily just lie about his answers, but she wanted to believe that he would tell her the truth, as naive as that may seem to many people.
If Oras agreed, she would nod and move to sit at the edge of the training grounds, taking a seat on the grass and letting herself relax a bit. She was a bit tired from healing herself; it always drained her of energy whenever she did so. Healing small injuries took less energy than large ones, but she was still tired.
"I wasn't even paying attention to where I was going when I came out here." She began, turning her gaze away from the Atronach as she spoke. "But... I wanted to be away from people because....." She hesitated for a moment, biting her lip, then continued. There was no sense in hiding the truth... it wouldn't do any good. "Because of a letter my mom wrote. Or.... what she didn't say in her letter, rather."
She glanced at Oras, then. "Why are you mad at your summoner?"

He chuckled as she reacted emotionally to his little 'test'. So she had zero self control then.. Well actually, he'd put it to like. Twenty five percent. She could apply self control if she needed to. However on average she would react in anger to his prodding, insults, jeering, and baiting. In other words: For the most part she was an easy person to mess with. She could also be easy to manipulate if he did it right, but he wouldn't manipulate her into doing anything that would ruin her life or get her harmed... Permanently at least. He couldn't say period since he did try manipulating her into entering another fight against him so he could let some stress loose. He watched in curiosity as she healed her scratches with a blue fire. So she could heal as well eh?
When she tried to put the conditions on there Oras smirked. She was putting the wrong rules down. Oras wouldn't have asked that counter deal if he was going to break it immediately. No. What she should have said is to give detail on one's answer. Otherwise Oras could give comments and statements that would answer it enough to actually answer the question, but give no context, and thus keeping her from finding out too much. "I'm offended you would take me as someone who would create a deal and break it so easily. Were those rules not implied? Of course I'll agree to that. There's no point to asking questions if we're just going to lie or avoid anything. That wouldn't be any fun." Oras walked with her and stood in front of where she sat, not sitting himself. He didn't need to. Atranoch's felt fatigue in a different manner.
When she answered she started with an answer that could have blocked him from accessing any other routes. However she continued explaining, and gave him access to every route from then on. She would have to learn this game quickly or else this would be oh too easy for him. She told him that she needed some time alone because of the letter her mother had written. Specifically, what she didn't write in the letter. He knew exactly what he was going to ask next. She then asked him why he was angry at his summoner. "Simplified she refuses to cooperate with me," he said with a shrug. "She quickly figured out my primary weakness as an Atranoch: Other than my elemental weakness, I depend on a summoner to remain in this world. Otherwise I return to my own. She exploited that weakness of mine." It was one of the reasons, but it was a primary one. Funny thing was she could chase that little path all the way down and she'd hit a dead end. Whereas he was pretty sure her own answer lead him down a path to her past.
"Now then, my turn again. Why would the words and information your mother did not include in the letter put you in a mood seeking isolation?"

Ryse plucked a blade of grass from the ground and twirled it in her fingers before she replied. "Sometimes you just need to be away from people, otherwise you'd end up hurting someone." She replied quietly. "My mom tends to leave things out in her letters. Things that she thinks would upset me."
Her mother wasn't weak, nor was she a pushover. Ryse had no doubt that the Phoenix had taught the vandelizers a lesson or two about destroying other's property; she'd fought in the Ancient War after all. But as tough as her mother was, she had a kind heart, and Ryse could tell that her mother was increasingly worried about the things that were directed at her. The two were used to the rumors and the acts of rudeness towards them, but acts of violence was something that was new during these last few years. Her mother had tried her best to protect her from it, but the day she'd opened up their mailbox and found a letter threatening her life and her mother's life made her aware of how much anger and hatred was directed at them both. Perhaps that was the reason her mother had pushed her so hard to go to the Academy; it was far enough away where the people there wouldn't know who she was. Or... more accurately... what she was.
She raised an eyebrow at Oras's answer. "The part I heard of your summoner seeing you as a research subject tells me that it's more complicated than just a simple "refusal of cooperation". What's the one thing you asked her that she refused?" She'd heard every word the Atronach had said, and she knew there was more than what he was letting on.

Listening to her answer he rolled his eyes. She wasn't going to get away with this. She was just repeating what she had said the first time around. "EEEEEEHHHHH, WRONG ANSWER!" he said, making a buzzer sound to get her attention. "My question was why would her not sharing certain things put you in a mood seeking isolation. All you did was repeat what you had said earlier about her not sharing certain things. I can easily use logic to determine that she didn't want to upset or hurt you because of something. Hence why I phrased the question the way I did. I'm not answering your next question until you fix your answer." However... Hearing what her next question was. 'shit' he thought to himself. 'she did hear that...' He thought carefully about this. He didn't want to share too much information, or else she could just keep asking questions over and over and over again. He wanted to reduce how much info she could get from him and focus on finding the core of her own fears and pain. Her history.
Oras himself was an Atranoch. He could live a very long time, and lived in a plane of existence outside of the material world. He didn't need anything here. He could keep going without many friends. All he needed was one good friend. And despite how angry he was with Inglisse, there was always the chance.. The chance he could somehow change her perspective. If and when Ryse fixed her answer he would answer her own. "That's a matter of why she summoned me. Normally Atranoch's are summoned as allies. Whether it's through combat, a personal mission, etc. We're beings of action, of companionship. She summoned me because she simply wanted to research the species. No doubt she takes notes on every single thing I do."
