welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

“Is this the right place?” Manya questioned herself, looking both ways down the hallway to make sure no one was nearby before lifting the mask covering her eyes to look at and read the plaque above the classroom door. Accidentally petrifying someone on her first official day as a teacher was something she very much wished to avoid doing. Things like this… wall plaques and other written or printed media, it was basically impossible for her to see and read them without actually looking with her own eyes. “Good, at least I remembered the way…” Manya muttered. She quickly replaced the mask when she suddenly heard footsteps approaching, and then they passed. She sighed, not even realizing she’d been holding her breath the whole time. “It’s alright. You can do this Manya. Just go in, hand over the paperwork and the senior teacher will advise you on what to do.” She pumped herself up, clenching to her chest, the clipboard she held in her arms.
Taking a moment to calm her racing nerves so that she wouldn’t end up forcing the door off its hinges, Manya reached for and turned the knob to her assigned classroom. “Excuse me…” She announced her presence. A peculiar silence fell across the classroom as Manya slithered in. Yep slithered. Kind of hard to do anything else when you don’t actually have feet. “As of today I’ve been officially assigned to your care and will be following you as a shadow for a couple weeks…” Manya spoke softly, doing her best to be polite despite her obvious interruption. Turning the clipboard so that it would be facing the senior teacher’s view, Manya relinquished it and the contents it detailed over to the other teacher.
It was a general rundown of the basic information needed to fully understand Manya, her expertise and area of educational teaching as well as explaining her ongoing dispositions. Namely the fact that, while she was not blind, her eyes were to remain covered at all times when addressing others lest she unintentionally petrify those she gazed upon.

The class has not started, due to obvious reasons. One there was no students coming yet, Manya had come a tad bit early before the actual time students would flood the seats with the intention of learning something or kill time. Obviously the latter was not tolerated in an academy as prestigous as Eldritch. Merlissa was not one to slack on the rules, so she appreciated Manya's early arrival.
One of the Serpentes, Merlissa noted as she preened a small mouse inside an mouse sized enclosure. Numerous stone statues, still as well a statue, surround the classroom of messily set tables and chairs. However the mess seems organized, as if intentionally set to be messy. Almost like a maze one could say. Luckily for Manya, she did not bump into a single one as she slithered forward. Merlissa was told beforehand she would be having a special case. Never did she expect a masked Serpentes with the documents for Teacher-In-Training. However it was not her who took the documents, but a stone golem.
"Hm... shadow... I say not. You'll be directly involved," Merlissa smiled as she hopped out of her pool and sat upon a table with a wet towel on top. "You'll see why soon, if the documents are anything to say by you were quite the Magical Beasts student. Wasted teaching experience if you ask me if you were to haunt me and the class. No. I'm making you part of it." Merlissa claps and a stone statue comes alive, gracefully avoiding the chairs and tables before picking Manya up gently, bringing her over to Merlissa and setting the lamia down.
"Throughout the class are my golems. They should be immune to your circumstances so feel free to lose the mask around me and them should you feel it too stuffy. You can probably sense them as they move, I know how you Serpentes can see without eyes," Merlissa picks up the small mouse and taps Manya on the shoulder. "Now hands out, and tell me, what creature do you hold in your hand?" Perhaps it would look like an ordinary mouse, however the Earrit gives itself away as it opens up its ears, large sonar dish like ears try to capture even the faintest of sounds, and make chriping noises towards Manya as if doing echolocation.

Directly? This seemed sudden. She was certain the board had instructed her to shadow... but if that's what this teacher wanted her to do then she wouldn't argue. The sound of splashing water along with Manya's other senses, confirmed what Manya had been told about this teacher. She was a Yu Fu, a species she hadn't encountered very often, even during her student years. "Thank you. I graduated with honors and went on to focus my studies in college." Manya bowed, showing her appreciation for Merlissa's recognition.
Manya lifted her head and took a sweep around the classroom, her sixth sense picking up the others within the classroom. So it hadn't been students she'd detected but golems? But to think she'd actually arrived earlier than expected. One of them approached and lifted Manya before moving her over to Merlissa. "Are you sure it's alright for me not to block my eyes around you though?" There was a level of concern noticeable in Manya's voice as she asked this question. Even if the golems were immune to the power of her eyes, Manya didn't exactly want to risk putting the very teacher she was supposed to assist into a position where she wouldn't even be able to run her classes...
Manya turned at the tap and did as she was told, holding out her hands. At first it seemed to Manya like an ordinary mouse had been placed in her hands, but then it's ears opened up and it started to chirp. "It's an Earrit!" Manya replied, perhaps with a little too much enthusiasm in her voice as a large warm smile spread across her face.

"An Earrit indeed," Merlissa smiled. What she did not tell Manya was that the class had already sat down with instructions to be incredibly quiet and still. And last thing you want to do is cross a golem, yet alone Merlissa. "Let me see if you can remember your revision, what makes the Earrit so special among similar species such as the common mouse or rat?" Merlissa picks up the Earrit again, who folds its ears back. A creature like this, blind used sonar like ears to navigate back to Merlissa. It kept making chirps, using it to identify Merlissa's body. Merlissa glances at the class with a coy smile, a finger over her lip as to remind the class to remain quiet. If anything, Merlissa believed Manya to be a bit too engrossed in the explanation of such an interesting mouse like creature and its many ways of using their ears to navigate the world.

“Well, unlike regular mice or rats, Earrits are inherently blind creatures that must rely on the heightened sensory capabilities of their ears to navigate their way around. Similar to the way in which bats use echolocation, the chirping sound that one hears an Earrit making sends out waves of sound which bounce back to the Earrit’s sonar-like ears and give the creature a continually updating field-view of their surroundings. The ears aren’t just for navigating either. Studies have suggested that this creature’s ears are even adapted to being able to pick up on even the quietest of sounds. Theory suggests it to be an evolutionary trait derived from a need to avoid their primary predator, the Orb Raven, over countless generations.” Manya spoke enthusiastically, hardly taking a breath to finish her explanation.
“Ah… sorry. I think I may have rambled a little bit there…” Manya apologized to Merlissa, bowing her head. “I am curious though… when does your class usually start?” Manya voiced her concerns. She was sure she’d been late. Needing to pause at every classroom and investigate the individual signs that designated which class belonged to what teacher hadn’t helped in getting here on time. But for the students to not even be here yet… it felt off somehow… Manya took another sweep of the classroom. Golems. Lots of them actually. Was there really a need to have so many of them here at once? Manya wondered…
