DARK FAE
Name of Species: Dark Fae.
{CLICK HERE for Appearance, Culture, and Origin}
Baseline Dimension: The dark fae tend to be rather tall, averaging at about six feet and three inches, but many are smaller than this and larger than this. The average shoulder width of the dark fae tend to be between sixteen and eighteen inches, but others may fall outside of this range. The average weight of the dark fae is around one hundred and seventeen pounds, or roughly fifty-three kilograms. The dark fae are usually small in the waist and tall, but there are rather short and chubby dark fae as well.
Baseline Appearance: The dark fae tend to be generally "darker" in their coloration for both skin and hair. there are more mortal-natural colors for both hair and skin, as well as the eye color, but the eye color tends to be very drastic in color compared to the skin and hair. For example there could be a dark fae with dark oak-colored hair and an olive-like complexion with shocking blue eyes, or a black haired dark fae with a dark as pitch complexion and green eyes, so on, so forth. It is more common for the dark fae to have darker hair and dark or light skin tones but in almost every dark fae, the eyes are very attention-grabbing and have strong facial bones and "elven" ears. Some of the dark fae do choose to have some aspects of their creature shift in their human form, such as the whispy tail, the ears, facial parts of the shift if it had skin and fur on the face, and even aspects from the rest of the body including fur. The dark fae's creature shift tends to follow along with the colors of the human body's hair, but can differ at times as well. The dark fae also have a possibility in their blood that their blood is differently colored, and tends to follow after gold, silver, bronze, or metallic dull/shining colors. It is not very common, but it is a mutation, otherwise the blood tends to be a darker ichor.
Culture/Origin of Species: The dark fae have always been a rather mythical species in all of their wiles, being referred more to as folklore stories, or legends. This is rather opposite as the dark fae have been a part of main-stream society for some centuries now, but the whispers of their ancient times still remain and often earn them stares from those around them. The dark fae joined with society after their eldest member went insane and a war ensued between the dark and light fae races to lay her to rest. The war bore heavy cost of life, and decimated the forces of the entire fae species as the war had gone on for two eons and had torn everything down, which forced the decision of finding a safer way of living as society encroached and forced them into its ways, the dark fae assimilated into society yet still retain some of their old ways of living and spells even in common day society. Back when society was of no matter to the fae, they were drenched in coats of blood, hands raw from bending steel and forming armor from the very earth itself. The handiwork of the dark fae was unable to be matched for many, many lifetimes, and it still stands as one of the strongest and most durable of the craft-styles. Being crafted from the sounds of battle, as they liked to say, the dark fae are fierce and are likely to enter an argument just to put in their own two pence, or to just up and end their problems by punching that problem in the face. (or making it worse but they put fists before words when worked up). The dark fae can access their magick through their blood, which they have an abundance of. (polycythemia vera -- too many red blood cells) They used to be able to use their magick by a few spells or phrases spoken to the earth and intended element, but those phrases and words were lost when the dark fae assimilated into society. Their bodies have mutated in response to the magick running untapped through their bodies, which caused health and mental problems, and the only other way to solve this issue, was to find a way to harness the magick to nature again, and the quickest and easiest way to do so was with the blood of the dark fae.

Traits:
• Creature Shift(Shapeshift) - a second form for the fae to take up which stands at a minimum height of four feet at the shoulder, and a maximum of seven feet at the shoulder. the creature shift of each individual fae, is in tune with their associated natural connection, in the way that the fae's associated flora will appear on the pelt of the shift, mainly around weak parts or already scarred areas. the creature shift tends to be a mix of two species with a long flowing three foot whisp-like tail, and the head of the creature shift tends to be purely skull, kept working by their own magick. the most common shift that is seen is the mix of one species for the torso and head of the body, and the rest of the body such as the haunch and flanks or organs is of another. for example, a feline skull and a horse body, with a long dark whispy tail. there are occasional mutations of the shift, where one shift may be one complete natural species, such as a canine skull and body or a feline skull and body. the shifts tend to be made more for an "on-land" species but there have been exceptions and mutations such as wings, horns, and solid tails. the rarest mutation would be a fully fleshed head. if a dark fae is stuck in their creature shift for long enough for their associated flora to merge with their body(check flaws for more information), it is seen as shameful and disgraceful to that fae and their grove or family. these fae are considered "marked" and are ostracized, and at the worst circumstance, are killed by their own family to regain the family's honor. the amount of time spent in a shift that it takes to form the flora is seen as a "loss of control" and is very embarrassing to that fae and their family.
• Mental Conversation(Telepathy) - telepathic communication is mainly kept between close friends and family of the fae, but may differ according to the basic nature of the fae, and how friendly or outgoing the individual is compared to the "stoic and silent" type of face that the species tends to show. Occasionally used to commune with others outside of the individual's social circles. the fae's telepathic voice has a hint of their regular voice, which they barely use because of the mutilation that is forced upon them at creation. the fae's vocal chords are very dangerous, and therefore must be manipulated upon their creation or coming of age, which is at six years, when their flora chooses them. the telepathic communication is awakened and honed from a young age, but it is the one necessary way for the fae to converse aside from signing their words to another. the telepathic communication typically runs one-way when the fae is contacting another being that is not fae or does not have telepathic capabilities. they rely on gestures or looks to communicate when it is too dangerous to use even their telepathic voice. one more way that the dark fae converse in is the language of battle. they are known for being fierce creatures born from the bodies of the battlefield, and were constantly ever-training to advance themselves and hone their skills.
• Natural Connection(Magick) - a connection every individual fae has to nature and it's flora, over it's fauna. primarily connected to the flora, or the plant-life and the tiny organisms within each plant or piece of flora, this allows the fae to access their magick at an exponential level. their natural connection allows access to proper and safe magick, which calls for most fae to be living around a lot of greenery if in suburban areas, or simply out in the forest as sometimes nomadic groups. the connection augments their magickal connection and their ability to use magick. the three different categories that the connection the individual fae would feel, falls under either helpful, such as medicines and herbs (lavender for example), harmful, which are poisons and toxins (death cap mushrooms for example), or neutral, which would be everything else and everything far between (trees and regular blooms of any kind). the categories pertain to what a human would be able to eat, and what would hurt them. each singular fae has a piece of flora that relates to their categorical connection and appears in their shift form and only appears growing from the fae's skin when the fae is close to passing out from over-using their magick, sort of as a last minute warning to those in their vicinity to clear out. A few more unique tidbits that are associated to the fae's magick is that they live for a lengthy amount of time, like trees, and that they require adequate amounts of sunlight and heat (their bodies are rather cold) to function properly. when a fae hasn't rested near any living flora for some time, they become sickly, lethargic and slow, also becoming vulnerable. the eldest dark fae went for two weeks without rest near any flora, and it drove her insane.
• False Slumber(Fake Death) - the fae have the ability to both protect themselves and to fool their enemies into thinking that they are indeed deceased. the fae can cover their entire body in mosses that would spring forth from their skin, which is quickly covered by their associated flora, in it's seedling state, or state of just growing out visible shoots. this ability to fake their own death, is rarely used among the fae because of their rather aggressive and "truthful" natures, as this is seen as cowardice, or occasionally hiding the truth, which can upset some fae. on the other hand, the total death of a dark fae is known to be both beautiful and terrifying as the body quickly decomposes and moss grows in the form of the bones, with a sapling or the fae's associated flora will appear in place of the fae's head, which has led to many rumors of "whispering trees" and several tales of the wind speaking to travelers in areas where the fae have died.
• Water Manipulation(Water-Flora Magick) - the fae have the ability to manipulate water to create fog or mist both to their aid and chagrin when used in battle. the most basic capability of the ability, is to connect with the already existing flora within the waterways and other bodies of water, active or standing, and to awaken any dormant cells within them, to get the plants to grow and release water back into the environment, which is warmed by the fae's magickal connection back to their bodies, meaning the moisture released from several plants is body-temperature or warmer.
• Thorny Barrier(Protective/Defensive Magick) - the fae have a rather stable protective defense that relies on their flora and other flora related to it that have thorns or spines. the most common examples would be briars, stinging nettles, and spined succulents such as a desert cactus. the magick is awoken when the fae is in danger, or is being threatened, and automatically creates a two foot thick, three to four foot high barrier in a radius of five feet around the fae. occasionally goes off by itself and can be a pain in the rear. the necessity of the situation will encourage the barrier to grow faster, and when the barrier takes excessive damage, it can transfer to the fae and cause debilitating pain.
Flaws:
• if a dark fae holds their creature shift for anything more than a week to a week and a half (it depends on the age, one's tolerance grows with them), the dark fae will begin to feel startling cravings for blood, or for meat even, something, anything. they will begin to crave the chase of prey, the feeling of being a predator, unaware that they are losing themselves to the call of violence that utterly destroyed their ancestors. this is their transfer from sane to insane, and it takes the dark fae longer and longer to shift back to their human appearance, as if their mind has no room to remember what they looked like, too wrapped around the hunt and kill. for those who watch over them, they will begin to see an emptiness in their gaze, and though their bodies may change back to their human appearance, there will be evident marks of the fae's loss of sanity. these marks are the flora that appears on their creature shift, but transfer over and become tattoos. not all dark fae will experience a loss of control over their creature shift, but those who do, retain the scars, the tattoos that are their flora, haunting them and shaming them for something that all must fight through. those who do suffer the tattoos are further shamed in the fact that they are luminescent, which means that if exposed to sunlight or other light sources, the tattoo will give off a subtle light, which can give the dark fae away in darkened areas. all dark fae will experience a period of time where their control of their creature shift will be tested at the extremes, and their moods will change and cause them to be more irritable and their attack patterns become random and less predictable, similar to a rage mode. (loss of control -- very painful glow-y tattoos and a lot of shame)
• the voices of the dark fae have always been rumored to be very, very powerful, and they have proved to be. their voices are as alluring as a siren's and as distracting as a banshee's scream, except that the dark fae's voices have the power to capture the attention of anyone or anything, and can be used to convince whatever they have attracted, to do whatever they want. thus, their vocals are mutilated when the dark fae child turns six, having allowed the time to learn how to use telepathy and how to master it. the dark fae are not used to speaking aloud, using their physical vocal chords to converse with another living creature, and using their voices and mutilated voice boxes, creates an unimaginable pain, and their throats and mouth will dry out and the dark fae could experience a black out and loss of their power, which is worse than anything, taking a dark fae's natural connection away. only one part of the species can use their voices, and even they are restricted, called archaic casters (those with knowledge of the fae's original language). the dark fae's mental voice is almost as dangerous as their physical voice, but it is more restricted and dampened, as the result of the dark fae guarding their own mental defenses rigorously as well as sharpening their offenses, so that they could charm a sleeping bird into flying out of it's nest into a thunderstorm. the most dangerous of the vocals of the dark fae, are those who can sing, their voices the least damaged and the most dangerous. all dark fae experience crippling pain and drainage of their magick and the wilting of their flora/magickal connection. (voices -- very dangerous to the health of a living dark fae and can destroy their entire body)
• the worst thing that can happen to a dark fae in the middle of casting magick, is loosing consciousness by using too much of their blood to perform their spells and castings. this lack of consciousness means that the dark fae's magick is running wild and unsupervised, making for a disaster as there is no limit for the blood to follow. their magick explodes outward in a violent burst with a radius of twenty feet, attacking everything and anyone in the immediate radius, hungering like a trapped wolf, and seeking release. at any point that the magick makes contact with another living life form, it attempts to call out the blood in that body to join it, or to go to the body of the dark fae in it's place. not only can the magick having such a violent outburst kill the fae, if the individual survives the immediate loss of blood, they would experience intense and extensive nosebleeds and never ending migraines whenever they attempt to use their magick. their bodies connect to the ground right before the individual passes out, leeching off the magick of the earth, causing any life form that is flora related in the radius, to wither and destroy itself, but if any brave fools nearby were to directly attack the ground within the radius, irreparable damage can be caused to the dark fa through the ground. the other disadvantage that the fae have, is that once they start to use their magick, the ground will naturally want to bond with them, and rejoin its missing magicks, which leaves the dark fae open to attack while they are focused on not being swallowed by the earth.
