welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Dawn leaned back in her chair as she looked over the classroom from the front desk. Her last class had ended just a few minutes ago and she was completely within her right to leave. Yet she was waiting. Waiting to see if her prediction would come true. When it came to magic the Majin believed they were a fairly good judge of talent and she believed she had found quite an abundance of it in the person she was currently waiting for. An exceptional student was something the Professor ran into every few years but this time it was different. There was something different about Inglisse Carroll. Something that made her stand out from all the other students Dawn had seen in her many years as the Occult Studies Professor at Eldritch Academy.
It was the last paper Dawn had assigned which had confirmed this theory beyond a shadow of a doubt. Atranochs had been the subject of the assignment. The different types, their habits, how to combat them, how to summon them, and finally how to bind them to a magical contract. The assignment hadn't been something designed to stump her student. A quick look through the proper section of the textbook and they would find proper answers to all the different questions she had posed to them. In all of those papers the Majin got the textbook answers she had been expecting. All the papers except one. The methods and procedures written by Inglisse followed a completely different route than the one provided by the textbook and yet Dawn couldn't find any error it. It was a completely new summoning ritual method based of information that the Goddess of Destruction had never introduced in class.
Where did she get this method? Did she find some ritual book? Was there some new textbook she didn't know about? Had the girl just come up with this method all by herself? There was a number of questions dancing about in the Occult Professor's skull but she couldn't find an answer to any of them. Unless of course her bait had worked just as planned. She had putting a failing grade on the atronach assignment to lure Inglisse towards her. Sure, she could've just called her to her office but there was far more she could learn this way. An exceptional student was great but it was all worthless if they had no passion for the subject. If Inglisse showed up to argue the grade it would not only confirm that the girl at least had some interest in the class but it would also mean she was confident in the method she had written down. Now all Dawn had to do was wait and hope that the subject of her interest wouldn't disappoint her.

The bait worked. Inglisse was caught hook, line, and sinker. She had expected a flawless grade, but could not believe her amber eyes when she gazed down at the failing grade. Surely there was some mistake, or her teacher was an idiot and did not understand anything. It likely was not the latter… Professor Scarlet seemed knowledgeable and not one to be doubted.
Still, this grade was not something the girl would accept. Even if she received perfect scores on other papers that would keep her unfailing, this one unsettled her, and stirred her curiosity. Marked paper in hand, Inglisse made her way to her occult studies professor’s office. She knocked on the door and as was usually permitted during office hours, let herself in. “Professor Scarlet…” the blonde greeted, voice formal and friendly but eyes stern. Normally she was one for pleasantries, but not when there was a more pressing topic at hand. She moved forward and set the papers down on Dawn’s desk. “I’m here to challenge a grade, if I can have a moment of your time. I would like to know what you found was wrong in my paper regarding Atranochs.”

"There you are! For a few moments there I was starting to worry you weren't going to show up."
A smile spread across Dawn's face as Inglisse entered into the room and it only grew wider as the girl began to challenge the score the Professor had given her. Ah, it was all going according to plan. As someone who loved chaos a plan working out perfectly was pretty boring to the Majin but at the very least she had caught her subject of interest. With a friendly gesture Dawn beckoned the girl to take a seat in the chair in front of her desk. As she waited for the girl to take a seat she took out the the copies she had made of each of her students Atronach papers and searched through them before locating the one she had been looking for. The self proclaimed goddess than placed the paper in the center of the table before speaking.
To be completely honest, I didn't find anything nothing wrong with your paper. It was exceptional, creative, and used a summoning process I haven't even seen before. It was like finding artwork from a master in a piles of amateurs. I was going to change the grade eventually but I decided to use the opportunity to test you a little and you ended up passing with flying colors. It would've been really disappointing if you hadn't shown up here today but now that you are we can talk about how you came up with this method."

The teacher’s giddy behavior put Inglisse on edge. She knew that this professor was a risk taker and extremist of sorts. Her behavior was mildly perplexing, but that could be expected of anyone who lived beyond the lifespan of a human. Inglisse took a seat near the desk, opposite of Dawn. She suddenly wished for some tea, but knew that would have to wait.
Amber eyes remained fixed on the ruddy-haired professor who went on to explain that there was nothing wrong with the paper. Inglisse had been caught in a trap, lured in by the potential of a fixed grade. Now she had to answer the questions of the eccentric teacher. She was at least relieved to hear that there was nothing wrong in her research and the paper had no reason to receive a failing grade. However, her grade was now the least of her concerns. “I summoned an atranoch myself, of the ice element,” Inglisse explained simply. “I did it after much research and trial-and-error.”
The last part was something of a lie. The process had been discovered in the Book of Baskerville, the massive collection of information that her family had put together over generations. Still, hopefully the answer would fly. The process was in plenty of textbooks, surely.

"Trial and error, huh? Well that’s some pretty dangerous experimenting on your part then. I mean if you were just testing things out and seeing what work who knows what could’ve happened. Could’ve summoned a demon, a daemon, an angry deity, or even accidentally reversed the process and sent yourself to the atronach’s realm. Then again any of those could be a fascinating adventure of their own.””
Dawn picked Inglisse’s paper off the table again and held it up as she skimmed through it again. For a trial and error type of experiment it truly was worked out very well. The steps were detailed and thorough to the point where Dawn could probably recreate the experiment herself without using any brain power of her own. Just simply follow the steps and you were there. Yet even though the student in front of her had tried to write it off as something of a luck of the draw through multiple attempts her explanation had only grabbed the teacher’s attention further. The Majin the girl had to be a prodigy at the very least to not get herself killed while using trial and error for a summoning ritual.
”So where is this ice atronach now? Did you unsummon them? Are they still bound to your will? How powerful are they? Oh! I almost forgot! A piece of advice if you ever do accidentally summon a demon or even if you do it on purpose. Definitely capture them, their body parts make great catalysts in certain rituals. It’s wonderful!”
Dawn eyes were glowing with excitement. She was a Majin of destruction and darkness but magic has always been her passion. She was a magic nerd and she’d never deny it. There was nothing she liked more than talking about it, especially when there was something new that she hadn’t known before. As a result the poor student in front of her was more than likely to get dragged into her endless questioning and talking about magical theory.
