A bit of silence would fall between them, the Nightmare blinking slowly like a cat as his eyes drifted to follow a yellow butterfly. The sight put a slight smile on his face, but that smile would fade a bit as the other sighed and began to speak. To what he heard, the Nightmare would hum softly in thought. “I see. What a strange matter indeed.” Normal it seemed was not a good term for something that was a bit more complex than what “normal” made things seem to be.
“Most creature do thing for reasons, but they can at times be hard to see or understand due to being buried many layers and sometimes….motives are not really a thing. They simply do because they can. No end or goal. Just because. Those are most often the ones hard to comprehend because things are supposed to do things with reason and when said thing lacks reasons it becomes incomprehensible to us." Motives came in all shapes and forms. Some were simple and easily understood, but others were too cryptic or odd to understand. Motives were as strange as the living who supposedly ran upon these things like a battery operated being.
“It is just an amusing thing considering so many of the books I’ve read and programs I’ve seen make them seem like a big deal when in reality they are not so big of a rule at all.” It was quite strange to him, but then again most things probably would be. That aside, he would nod on the latter part of the sentence. “I don’t like the idea of doing things to fit in. Sure learn from it, but still be true to you.” That was much better than simply mimicking everyone.
As for the dumbness issue….
“I suppose it could be a lack of intelligence, but honestly unfamiliarity brings about its own issues and maybe it is not mental at all. Perhaps it just physically can’t be done either. There are many reasons outside of intelligence for why one can’t figure out a phone or pick up an eating utensil. Even it seems like a no brainer to you.” There were always other factors outside of the brain for why one failed to do something everyone else may do easily.
To the next topic, the Nightmare would smirk a bit. “You never asked what I was, so how could I tell you without some indication you wanted to know?” He would tilt his head. “Would like to make a trade? I tell you what I am and in turn you tell me what you are?” He could give the information out for free of course, but what was the fun in that? Though perhaps fun was being cut short here.
The Nightmare’s smirk would fade being replaced by a small smile and nod. “I see. I apologize for intruding on your time then,” he would say and then stepping closer he would focus on the bat. “Yes. I want the bat. Thank you for retrieving it,” the Nightmare would say tilting his head to the side almost laying it on his shoulder as he looked at the bat for a bit before blinking and after straightening up again move forward some more so he could get near enough to at least attempt to remove the bat from the other’s arm.

The Nightmare would tilt his head a bit at what was said. “Hmm. Your logic is sound enough though I would still say there are some situations that have aspects to them that make them hard to understand or crack...no matter how much you dig,” It is true you could dig and find a source to why a person may have done something, but even with the source defined, whether desire or mental illness or something maybe not easily define, that didn’t mean the logic behind what was done could be followed. Living things were strange like that and in turn, the Nightmare believed there were cases that simply could not be understood or cracked no matter how much one dug into it. Of course…he could always be proven wrong with further examples proving the impossible to solve was solvable, but that would be a examination for another time.
Any who… He would give a light frown of thought to the next topic before simply nodding. “Fair enough.” He really didn’t have much of a counter for that right now and couldn’t go down a path that one simply wasn’t interested in to begin with, so he let that topic be. As for the race thing…
The Nightmare’s smirk would fade as a bit of disappointment crossed his face. “What a way to dodge a question,” he would say before shrugging it off. It didn’t matter in the end. After all, all he had to do was dig and observe to get an answer anyway.
“It depends,” he would say as he looked off to the side. He could stay up for long hours and crash during the day rather than at night whether that was due to research or not. As for being tired right now, he did feel some form of strain on his body that told him was a bit tired, but to be frank he would probably stay up a while longer. Ah well. Maybe he would find something else to keep him entertained until he finally just shut down.
Something like the bat perhaps.
He would reach out for the bat, but then stop the action as the other spoke to the bat and in turn the bat took flight only to land on his head. This in turn caused the bird on his shoulder to squawk a bit as it looked up at the bat and then with a small puff of feathers decided to fly off with a strange caw. Rika would smile softly at the whole ordeal remaining calm the whole time before golden eyes returned to the other. The smile would widen slightly, amused by such a request. “Don’t worry. The bat is in good hands.”
Honestly it was. If there was anything the Nightmare could handle well it was animals, so he wasn’t worried about this situation at all.
“Now then. I suppose this is where we part ways. Perhaps we can chat again sometimes?”
