There are many shapes, forms, breeds and types of monsters in the known and unknown worlds. Some are dangerous while others are not. Many are physical, while others are more ghost like, or even raw eldritch power. There are neutral monsters, and evil ones. Yet it is rare for monsters to not have any apparent origin, or to never be seen for hundreds, even thousands of years. Even so, a creature named the Atrophalite, (named so after the word atrophy) exists and unfortunately not much is known on this horror. Like the shades, no one is quite sure where these soulless entities came from. Even historical records seem to claim they emerged from nothing. They do not seem to lean towards any faction or side, and no religion seeks to claim responsibility of these evils. Not even the most dark and corrupted religions. Despite our lack of knowledge on their origins however, we know quite a bit about them specifically.
These dark manifestations have no arms and no legs. Their body consists of a torso, a tail, and three heads. It's body seems to be made of a mineral unknown to any living (or deceased) being, and is layered with an unknown alloy that acts as a sort of armor/exoskeleton. In addition to this, it's body is often engulfed in an eerie blue flame which burns spirits, souls and energy itself. Atrophalite want nothing but destruction, death and chaos. They wander the glob obliterating everything in their path. They slaughter any species or monster, regardless of whether they try and help the Atrophalite or not. It's only goal, will and desire is the utter annihilation of everything. And yet, they have proven to be highly intelligent. The few survivors of encounters and battles with the Atrophalite have stated how it actively learns how it's opponents move, attack, dodge, retreat, cooperate, and change tactics. It then uses that knowledge against them. There are even records of it having set traps for those chasing it. Survivors also recorded how it's three heads appeared to be communicating and working together in perfect cooperation for maximum reaction and processing timing. If one can kill an Atrophalite it's body becomes explosive and erupts in power in a manner of seconds with no trace of it's flesh. Making it impossible to research it's body after death.
The only recorded weakness of these Atrophalites are stories of the gods themselves smiting them from above. While such an act is debated amongst historians as to whether or not it is accurate, other illustrations show divine beings under the direct influence of a deity harming it greatly. This leaves historians to believe that it may be possible for the most divine beings to have a greater effect on an Atrophalite. Fortunately they have not been seen for a very long time. In fact, according to records they rarely appear. Only emerging every several hundred, even thousand years sometimes. Whether they are simply sleeping, hiding, or just pop into existence is an utter mystery to us. What we do know is when one does emerge. The death count from the greatest wars we've seen will pale in comparison to the Atrophalite's massacre.
Traits
• - Skull Shot
From recorded illustrations and stories passed down by the survivors, it's been officially noted that the Atrophalite's signature attack is propelling a skull from its jaws. The skull is semi-translucent and is black in color. The skulls fire at a very fast speed and always explode on impact with a radius that ranges from a five feet diameter, or an eight feet diameter. The eight feet diameter explosions are a result of the skulls shot from the central skull specifically. Making us believe that not only is the central head in command of the body, but also the strongest. The explosions from the skulls have the potential power to shatter most physical and magical shields, and crack or weaken powerful physical and magical shields after only one or two hits.
• - Counter
The armor of an Atrophalite is unlike any material seen. It's structure has the ability to absorb impact force of both physical, spiritual, otherworldly and eldritch hits. Resulting in any attack's damage being reduced in it's effectiveness and potency. Weak attacks simply fail to deal anything against it, their power spreading across it's armor harmlessly. However when it's attention is focused on an individual, and it knows an attack is coming, it has the ability to reduce incoming damage by half, and reflect all projectiles back at it's origin, whether they be physical, spiritual, otherworldly or eldritch power. While it's true one can pull a surprise attack on an Atrophalite, continuing to pull surprise attacks on an Atrophalite is extremely difficult with it's level of intelligence and adaptability.
• - Devour
Looking back on records and historical events have shown that while there have been many attempts to defeat an Atrophalite, making it waste all it's stamina and tire out has been one of the least successful. This is due to the fact that an Atrophalite can devour life essence, souls and spirits of those around them. From what we can tell, it can regenerate stamina by slaying and devouring the life/soul/spirit of plants, animals, mortals, immortals and anomalies. Furthermore it can store the stamina it's collected if it has no use for it. Effectively becoming a living battery. (plot only). It can also use the energy it's collected to regenerate it's own health.
• - Soul Scorcher
The Atrophalite is a horrifying creature with endless destructive capabilities. However what sets it apart from most destructive beasts is not just it's power and ability to destroy. It is in fact the eerie blue flames that coat the evil from head to tail. These blue flames can burn the physical world like every fire, albeit with a quicker burn rate. However it also has the ability to burn anything in the spiritual realm as well. That is to say, anything that the physical cannot strike, the flame can destroy in its place. Even worse the flame seems to be especially effective at destroying non physical beings, structures and even spells. Because of this, if an Atrophalite coats a skull fired from it's jaws in the blue flames, the resulting explosion usually obliterates any magical shield in place.
• - Hyper State
If it's current state of power and destruction wasn't dangerous enough, lost entries to tales of this demon add to it. According to records, during one of the most deadly battles against an Atrophalite, the warriors drove it to the point of a 'hyper state'. In this state, the Atrophalite's speed increases to an incredible amount, allowing it to match nearly anyone's speed, and it's resilience is improved as well, allowing it to shave off more damage and allowing it to be more reckless in it's attacks. It's hyper state lasts only for a short while (five posts), but it can extend the length of it's state by using more energy (role-play only). While there is no proof, it is believed that the Atrophalite store up excess energy in case they need to use this state, and only use it after they've gathered data on their opponents.
• - Quietus
(role-play) In every recorded story and illustration of the Atrophalites, it has only been history's most powerful heroes and villains who were able to stand against it. And each one of them recorded the same thing. 'If it appears to be preparing the use of Quietus: run'. Quietus is what people of ancient times named the Atrophalite's most devastating attack. It requires a massive amount of energy which it must store up to use, thus making it impossible to use over and over again. When an Atrophalite prepares to use Quietus, it stops attacking those around it and it's fire appears to be absorbed into it's chest. Fifty seconds later it releases a black wave of power in every direction up to one hundred miles in every direction (200 mile diameter). The result is an empty crater. All physical, spiritual, magical and even beings from alternate realities, dimensions, etc. having been vaporized into nothing. The only bright side to this is that the Atrophalite does not seem capable of absorbing any life essence, soul, or spirit from this attack.
Flaws
• - Armless
One of the more obvious downsides this being has is the fact that it lacks arms. This of course limits what it can do physically. Even though it can use it's tail, heads and jaws, torso and flames when in melee combat, a true master of combat and weaponry can give themselves the advantage. Atrophalite's are more deadly from a distance than they are up close thanks to their ability to deflect projectiles. Even still, they are not to be underestimated.
• - Narrow Minded
Despite the fact that the Atrophalite is amongst one of the most intelligent beings this world has seen, being able to strategize and adapt in every situation, it has a potent weakness in its thinking. This weakness being it's one and only motive: to destroy everything and wipe the entire planet clean of.. Well anything. Because of this predictable mindset it is possible, if not easy to lure an Atrophalite into a trap or ambush. However the true difficulty lies in keeping the Atrophalite from coming up with a good counter attack, or keeping it contained despite it's destructive power.
•Unholy
One of the Atrophalite's greatest weaknesses is in fact itself. It is the very opposite of the words holy, divine, and good. As such, the only thing capable of penetrating it's armor and flesh with ease are divine beings. This does not mean that someone with Eldrich powers that generate divine or holy powers are effective. This is in fact the opposite. The divine power cannot be fabricated or given if it's to work. It has to be a divine being who deals the hit. A good example is an arch angel or others of the like.
