welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

“Hey Ozaki, look.” Someone would say as they walked out of the building for the night. They flashed a chip that said two months on it. “Two months sober now. Thanks to you.”
The vampire had been volunteering once or twice a week at a homeless outreach program for a couple of months now, and one thing he liked to do- for those who were willing- was use his hypnotism to compel people to forget their cravings. It was only a temporary measure, he knew. Eventually they’d have to be able to do it without him. But in the mean time while their bodies were readjusting to life without drugs, it was a skill that proved useful to have. “You’re doing work too- don’t count yourself short. How’d that job interview on Monday go?”
“I don’t know yet, still waiting to hear back. But I think I did pretty good.”
“Good!”
“Well I should get going, see you next week!” They said before heading off in their own direction.
Ozaki did so as well, but soon enough found himself in step with another person from the group. “Hey… Can I talk to you private for a bit?”
This guy… Ozaki hadn’t spoken to him much during the meetings. But he was willing to change that, so he nodded and let him lead the way for awhile into an alleyway. After a bit the man would speak up. “Look. I don’t know what you’re doing here. But you’ve got to cut it out. Your little mind tricks are bad for business.”
Bad for… Business? “What business?”
“Don’t play dumb with me. Its as clear as that ahoge on your head that you’re part of The Bloods. You’re helping my customers quit with those mind tricks of yours. You need to cut it out.”
The stupid damn hair on his head. A clear sign that he had been sired by Mordred, at least for any gang member who knew anything at all. But just because he had been sired by that man did not mean he was a part of his gang. Or that he wanted anything to do with him for that matter. “I'm not part of the Bloods… And this group is meant to help people get back to living stable lives. And you’re using them as customers? They’re trying to quit!” This part of the outreach program worked as Alcoholics anonymous, helping those who were genuinely trying to quit whatever their drug of choice was. The fact that this man was going to this place solely to prey upon them in their vulnerable states was despicable.
“I’m not here to hear some sanctimonious dribble from you. And I’m not here asking you to stop. I’m telling you to stop. Or I’ll make you.” The man’s sclera turned back and his irises turned red, revealing his nature as a ghoul. Ozaki’s own green eyes narrowed into slits as rage started to build him him. Normally he tried so hard to control his temper. But this… This seemed like an appropriate time to let loose. And a good target for feeding practice while he was at it…

The night was dark, but the city was bright. Rhythm wandered carelessly through the streets, pretending to be a rat scuttling from shadow to shadow. It wasn't as much fun as he at first thought it would be, and so he picked himself up and set off to find some interesting people.
It seemed he would find a spectacle in the form of some sort of argument.
Rhythm hovered over the pair to watch, trying to understand what they were both mad about. He didn't have a clue what "business" was about, but he knew a fight brewing when he saw one, and to that the shadow felt a touch of mischief.
As the two creatures of the night closed in on each other, Rhythm descended upon them, blowing up his form into something monstrous and surely frightening to any human---a ravenous, angry werewolf. Like a black fog, the shadows rolled up into the shape. His eyes gleamed, fixing a malicious glare onto both at once. Sharp-toothed jaws dripped liquid shadow, and smoke seemed to rise from his nostrils.
The shadow werewolf, standing between the pair, lifted his head in a silent howl and lashed out with wicked claws, though Rhythm kept himself intangible for fear of hurting them.

Any human surely would have been terrified by the mere sight, but as it were... Neither of the people before the shadow person were human.
Ozaki wasn't necessarily always the most street smart of people. However if there was one thing he was, it was book smart. He did jump back when the werewolf appeared between them. Both out of gut instinct to survive- knowing how deadly a werewolf bite could be, and surprise. And something else... There was an unearthly dread being emitting from the shadow. Well more, it wasn't from the shadow. But there were few things that could make Ozaki feel like this, and werewolves weren't amount them. Was it a werewolf? No. Not unless it had a shadow based talent but... Those eyes and the fear-aura made it more likely it was a shadow person. The fact that the werewolf was not able to truly bay made it a cinch for Ozaki. Definitally not a werewolf.
Ozaki could see his opponent whip out a gun. Immediately Ozaki took up into the air, knowing if he did not the bullet would likely phase through and hit him. He cut into his index finger with his thumb nail and squeezed his palm, forcing the slow pulsed blood to well up from the wound. "Whoever you are, you need to leave. This is none of your business, and you have no reason to get hurt over it." Shadow people in their intangible states were immune to physical attacks. But he doubted that his opponent was going to stick to physical attacks for long if he realized they weren't working, as the bullet he just fired flew right through the shadow.

Somehow, being told to leave only made him want to stay all the more. Funny how that worked.
Rhythm watched, curious, as the man leapt over him, his head whipping around only when a bullet whizzed through him.
The shadow rushed forward on impulse, turning his monstrous hands solid as he aimed to force the gun-wielding ghoul to the ground and hold him down. His eyes glowed brighter, staring into the stranger's face, trying to discern his deepest fears. Maybe he could scare the guy before he got a little too violent.
Or would that just make him even more violent?

Logic would say that the person that Rhythm turned into was not a real entity. But even if the ghoul had known what the creature before him was it would have been hard to listen to reason on that. Whether or not this one was real, he was afraid of what he was seeing. He fired off a few rounds, desperate to try and get at the shadow, but with his arms being held as they were he could not actually hit the Shadow. Red whip-like limps appeared from the higher ghoul's back, pulsing with venom as they tried to lash out at the person before them.
~~~~~~~~~~ Ozaki, meanwhile, was highly frustrated. He didn't quite know why the shadow person was even interfering. Even if he could get a clear shot from how closely they were grappled, it would only serve to put the ghoul to sleep. Which may very well end up in his death. That wouldn't be a bad thing persay... But Ozaki had had plans for the ghoul. Of all people to practice on, someone who couldn't actually die of blood loss or severe wounds was perfect. But he highly doubted this Shadow was going to listen. Best to wait, even if his instincts were snarling at having his target being taken... He could wait. Waiting was half of the hunt at times.
Rhythm took on that most feared of forms and kept the ghoul pinned while more bullets were shot off, skipping off the concrete. Strange tentacles pushed out the man's back and whipped through him.
When he seemed good and scared, Rhythm let the ghoul go, lifting the weight from his arms but not moving away, to keep that fear of too-close-for-comfort there. With the apparent lack of any real threat, the rush of instinct began to fade from Rhythm's psyche and he glanced around, wondering where the other person had gone.
Aw, man, did he break up the fight? Was that good? Did he do good? But now how was he going to watch a street brawl all up close and personal-like...?
The ghoul knew that Ozaki was going to come back here at some point, so there was absolutely no point in continuing a fight like this. He could pick it up later when that stupid kid was alone again. He tried to book it out of the alleyway when suddenly he found himself a foot short, and fell to the ground.
~~~~~~~~~~ Ozaki had not been pleased that his prey was being taken, but seeing them run off was even less optimal. He could follow them and corner them somewhere else, but he had already committed to getting a bite in. There was no way he was going to miss this opportunity. Ozaki drew up the blood that had welled up from his finger with blood manipulation and formed his fingers into a finger gun, shooting the collected blood and nitro-glyerin mix at him. It exploded on impact, taking his leg. Within moments after that Ozaki landed next to him, yanking the ghoul up part way by his arm to bite down.
The moment he bit into the ghoul the exhilarating rush of his fear overcame Ozaki's sensibilities, and he started gnawing further into the ghoul's arm.

The ghoul was scrambling away when Rhythm looked back at him, and then---he wasn't. To Rhythm's surprise, the ghoul's leg was suddenly taking off in a complete opposite direction from its owner.
That didn't look good. He was pretty sure most humans couldn't recover from losing one of their appendages. He was even more shocked when the second human reappeared and, of all things, bit into the ghoul's arm. This wasn't exactly what he had in mind for a street brawl. This looked...dangerous. For them, at least.
Rhythm was once more placing himself in the middle of where he wasn't wanted. A cloak of shadows fell over the ghoul, but he wasn't the target this time---this was only the prelude, an attempt to make the victim forgotten after what would come next. Delving into the attacker's psyche, Rhythm would warp his body into the vampire's greatest fear.

As the Shadow person cloaked the ghoul Ozaki continued chewing, even cracking through bone itself. When the ghoul screamed he aimed to punch the man in the throat to keep him from bringing attention to the alley way. That was when the ghoul's appearance suddenly stopped being himself and became that of Mordred.
Ozaki jumped back in surprise. While he knew it wasn't real, he was still enough of a shock for him to actually heed the tizzy of fear that the Shadow Person caused. Plus... It wasn't like he really wanted to chew through the Ghoul's arm. He just... Couldn't not do it that way. Seeing the visage of Mordred right now was enough to shake him out of his feeding frenzy. But it did not do much to quench his rage, both at the person who the Shadow Person was currently cloaking, nor at the visage they had chosen to claim.
Ozaki wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, glowering at the Shadow Person. He wasn't sure what they were on about, given that they had both attacked the man and now were possibly defending him. "You trying to break up this fight? You should know he has this coming for selling to people who came to this group to quit." The Shadow person couldn't speak. Ozaki could get his journal out now and rip out a page for them to talk, but the Ghoul wasn't liable to remain still for long.
~~~~~~~~~~~
The Ghoul looked at their new temporary appearance, confused. Nonetheless they could already feel the flesh at their arm and leg begin to stitch back together. Forming a new limb would take a few minutes, but at that point he could get going. "What the hell's going on?! You call for back up or something?"
That most certainly wasn't a pleasant sound. Rhythm grimaced behind the visage at the sound of crunching bone. At this rate, the human wasn't going to be able to flee!
At least the image was enough to make the attacker jump away, although he appeared to be on to his tricks.
Rhythm cocked his head, not understanding what was being said, either by the vampire or the ghoul. He wasn't enough a part of the world to comprehend its intricacies. All he knew that this man---or whatever he was---was losing parts of himself that he might not be able to get back (Rhythm hadn't yet noticed the regeneration going on). It wasn't a fun little rivalry---the ghoul could very well be in mortal peril! Rhythm realized all this and recognized he couldn't stand by while he was already here, involved despite it being none of his business.
Unfortunately there was little else Rhythm could do but try to scare the vampire off.
This "Mordred" peeled herself off the ghoul's body, rising to meet the vampire's gaze. Rhythm grabbed onto nearby shadows and began to shape them into additional fears, creating a further visual blockade and making clear his intentions. His mind was made now: he had to stop the fight before someone got seriously injured.
What remained of the dismembered leg fell with a splat between the vampire and him.
Uh...before someone got more seriously injured. Or died.
"Oh fuck." The ghoul swore, realizing immediately who the form was as they revealed themselves. "Wait. Not the real one." If it were the real Mordred he would be so dead for trying to corner one of his kids, heedless of the reason. Doing it had been risky but... He hadn't been planning on killing Ozaki. Just teaching him a lesson on respecting gang boundaries. Something his sire should have taught him. So he could have gotten away with it... Maybe. But if Mordred were actually here he'd be fucked. Either way he might be fucked if this kid actually told his sire what happened. Mordred didn't care nearly as much about gang rules as Regis did.
~~~~~~~~~~ As the Shadow Person multiplied into multiples of Ozaki's fears he jumped up, putting distance between himself and the Shadow Person. Mordred, Yuuto, someone else, and someone covered in blood. Most of Ozaki's fears appeared to be people, with only one of them being more of a conceptual thing. That one was more mirroring his hemophobia than anything else, guising as one of the unfortunate souls who had met their end at his fangs when he did not know any other way. Ozaki could probably figure out something with this. He just needed enough light but... He had no cause to fight with this Shadow Person. So instead he pointed at the ghoul and delivered a similar threat to what he had tried to deliver to him earlier. "I find you here again and you'll loose much more than a limb, got it!?" Then took off higher into the sky and away from the scene.
He could continue the fight. But there was little point in it with an unrelated party in the way. If the Ghoul came back Ozaki could deal with him then. Until then... Well there were other, technically more legal targets to go after to practice feeding on. Ones that already had a dead or alive bounty on their heads, namely.

It...worked? It worked!
Watching the stranger fly away (was he a shadow person too?---no...then he wouldn't have been able to scare him), Rhythm sighed silently, releasing the shadows and fears around him.
He glanced over at the ghoul as he sank back into the shadows, intending to watch the person for a while and make sure he was safe before continuing on his own merry way.

The ghoul looked around in a frantic way for a couple of seconds, before scooching himself to the side to the alley while his leg and arm healed up. Once their limbs had fully regenerated they got up and walked away, making a personal note to deal with the kid with more people next time. Even without random interloper popping up it had become rapidly clear by the fact the kid had blown off his leg that he was vastly outclassed. Boundaries were boundaries, and Ozaki had crossed them. Surely even Mordred had to understand that.
