welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Crimson red wings spread to their fullest as beady eyes searched the ground below. The strangely-colored hawk known as Red had never been to the city, and for that fact neither had his master. Three times already today the bird had lost his owner among the crowd only to find him lost in some back street. If he weren't so busy looking for the young man he could have spotted the academy by now, having been in the air for so long. While Red was indeed just a normal, if oddly-colored, bird he still knew that the two of them couldn't go back home. Not yet anyways. Perhaps one day they would be able to, but that might be years from now, when Talon had mastered his abilities and maybe the society they came from had possibly accepted that rejected five percent.
The hawk's eyes would finally find their target, for once in a less-shady area. The bird would fold his wings against his body, tilting himself down and diving down towards the city streets. With a sudden whoosh as he unfolded his wings, Red would pull out of the dive and glide for about fifty feet before flapping and landing on the shoulder of Talon, his master who had decided it was lunch time. Face hidden by the gray hood of a rather tattered and older jacket, Talon looked to his shoulder and reached up to scratch the bird's beak, greeting his oldest and only friend. He would reach to his plate and grab a piece of meat, handing it to the bird who would gladly grab the piece and begin tearing at it.
"There we go, buddy. Eat up. Now that we are here things will get better. Just gotta find the academy. Been a bit of a trip, but we made it. Let's make sure we make the most of it, yeah?"
Red would let out a little screech as though he were agreeing with Talon, flapping his wings a few times before settling back down once more. The stares they were getting from some of the passerby weren't unnoticed, but were instead something the two had gotten use to. In their homeland, people would stare less out of concern of a bird and a boy in tattered clothes, but more out of concern of what the society considered dangerous to their way of life. While there was a rather large difference, the physical looks were the same.
Talon would place enough money on the table to pay for the meal, ignoring the surprised look of the waitress who had been waiting to the side. He couldn't blame them for how they were acting. The clothes he was wearing were the same ones as when he had left for this place, and his trip was less-than pleasant. The only thing that had allowed him to make it here was the little bit of control he had over his abilities. Red had taken a few risks as well to make sure that Talon had made it to this city. Both had tasted combat on the trip, and neither came out without a few scars. He could only imagine what sort of sight they were to those within the city. But he didn't care how they looked at him, for he knew better than to trust those of a society, especially when he knew nothing about them. He couldn't trust those of his own home, so why would he trust those of a city he had only just arrived in?
He walked down the street, hands in his pockets and bird perched on his shoulder. Red made sure to keep an eye on those who passed by them, his head swiveling back and forth between different people. Talon just kept walking, unsure of where he was going but too nervous and determined to stop. He wanted... no... needed to find the Eldritch Academy. So many students with so many different abilities. He knew it would be difficult, but he was determined to learn how to control his own power... and to be accepted somewhere.
He didn't care if he was hated or loved, feared or admired. He just wanted to be accepted somewhere and be able to claim a place as home. He felt as though Eldritch could be that place due to the reputation that reached as far as his own home. A place of magic where students learned to embrace their abilities, not be afraid of them. If this was true, then it was his best bet at learning just that; to embrace his abilities.
He stopped at an intersection in the street, looking both ways before looking back down and hiding his face behind his tattered hood once more. Now that they were here, there was still one problem.
"Well buddy, I think we might be lost. First time in a big city, thought it might be easy to find the Academy. Come to find out, I suck at navigating such a big place. Wish we had a map. Where the heck is Eldritch Academy? I thought it would be easy to find."
His hand reached up to scratch Red's beak as he began to ponder what to do, where to go. In his excitement at making it here, he had forgotten that he knew nothing of this place and now had no idea where he was or where he had already been. Two words crossed his thoughts as he tried to figure out what was next.
*Just great*

The Vamp Wolf | Mmmhh, how troublesome. Shopkeepers knew just how to take the most inconvenient days off, didn't they? It was one of those times that Sharaku ventured to the city due to a need to buy something, in this particular case a new phone charger because that blasted thing was dying. However, it was just his terrible luck to find that the electronics shop he had been after had taken a vacation for a couple days, and was thus closed. The tall hybrid sighed as he turned around to walk back, one hand shoved in his pants' pocket and the other holding what looked like a strange labeless juice box.
Well, at least he had gotten a 'nice' walk out of this, if nothing else? He wasn't sure whether that was worth any celebration, but at this point he was willing to take it. It was too bad that he didn't need much of anything else at the moment though, making it impossible to at least redirect this trip towards a different task. Coming up to an intersection at the streets, he'd briefly cast an odd look towards the other side of it, taking notice of a messily dressed guy with a hawk standing there. Well, at least he thought that was a guy....couldn't quite tell with that hood covering the face. It wouldn't last him more than a second or two though, as he had seen stranger things before, as much as it could be a bit of an oddity to see someone hang around the city like that.
And frankly, he had no intention to do absolutely anything about it originally, because he was by no means the type to chat up random strangers without having a reason to. Had it not been for the fact that said stranger decided to speak out loud to his pet bird just about at that moment, and with his enhanced canine hearing, coupled with the fact that this street cross was not very crowded right now, he could kind of hear some of what was being said. He sure did not get all of that, but now he had to wonder. What did this person want with the Academy? He had definitely caught that being mentioned, if nothing else.
What a troublesome dilemma. Should he bother himself to 'investigate' this, or would it be better to not care? For all he knew, this one might just be a newer student or such that he had never seen before, and was talking out loud some thoughts. Although a big bird like that certainly ought to grab some attention. Eh. His trip had already been kind of ruined, why not make it worse? He knew how to do that to himself without a question.
After mentally shrugging to himself, he would make his way towards the stranger, which was the direction he had been headed towards anyway, pausing once he was in the vicinity to speak to them. Golden eyes would glance over casually. "Hey. I caught you mentioning the Academy. You go there?" |

Feathers ruffled suddenly as the voice of someone nearby would reach him and his master. His head would swivel and lock onto the golden hues, staring back with a determined warning, letting out a matching cry as though to warn the man to stay back. While Red was easily startled and more and often than not defensive, Talon knew that could be dangerous in a big city like this. Smaller towns like where they had come from had people who would mind their own business. Big cities usually had some kind of police force, and one with a magic academy probably had officers who could use magic. The last thing he wanted was to be labeled as a trouble maker, especially this early within the city.
Talon reached a hand up, rubbing a finger across the bird's head to calm him down. He turned to the man himself once Red had finally settled, though the hawk still kept his eyes locked onto the man. His head still down, Talon would speak to the man. His voice, while usually smooth and monotone, was currently slightly hoarse as he spoke. While he had just eaten, his throat was still dry from the trip. There had been only a few places he was able to safely drink from along the way, since he had little money to buy anything and had decided to save it for the city. Despite this, he would speak through the discomfort of his dry throat, answering the stranger's question while keeping a distance.
"No, not yet. Merely looking to get in. Are you able to give directions to get there? This is my first time here, got lost trying to find my way through the city."
While he was cautious of strangers, and even those he had known his whole life, he would still be happy to know where he was going. Keeping as much of his face hidden as he could, he would lift his head to look at the man before him. It was odd for Talon to have to look UP to someone, at least it was something he wasn't use to. The man before him seemed to tower over him though, and Talon would almost have to reveal his face in order to take in his appearance. With Talon standing at just over six feet tall, the stranger was one of the only people he had ever met to remain taller than him. It was both off-putting and a welcome thing to him.
Aside from this, the man's appearance wasn't too different from what he had seen. Perhaps a different design letting Talon know that he was from a different area, but still just shirt and pants. While he had his own personal preference in style just like everyone else, he didn't really care what he wore, just as long as he had something. The next thing Talon would notice is the mixture of two different energies emitting from the man. Along with the rest of his species, Talon was a bit sensitive to energies, and could often sense the small traces that almost always seeped out of others. He had sensed many energies in his life, but that he felt from this man was very different.
He would shake his head away from that, realizing that people within this city might not find it very nice to just poke around, even if it was something as simple as sensing one's energy. He lowered his head once more, still unsure of just how much he could trust this man. His habits of being cautious and alert to such things were strong, but at the same time he wanted to learn to trust. With so little people around him, he felt he could get away decently if anything happened, but decided to still remain vigilant. He didn't want to come off as harsh or rude either though, so he relaxed his stance a bit, pulling his hands out of his pockets and instead hooking his thumbs into his belt loops which were currently empty. The tops of his hands were covered in quite a few scars, each from either a failed attempt at controlling his magic or from when he was raising up Red.
He would speak once more, more to show he wasn't wanting to come off as rude, though he was unsure of how well he sent the wordless message. Even if he wasn't a little dehydrated with a dry throat, his voice was still a stiff and empty. That would take a little more work to change.
"Should have bought a map instead of spending my money on lunch. Might have been easier to navigate the streets."

The Vamp Wolf | Oh no, was he about to become bird food? The tall young man would raise his free hand in a 'give up' gesture. "Hey now, no need for that, I'm not a boogeyman." He'd laugh lightly, seemingly amused at his own words. Honestly, he was just joking about, as per usual these days. He was not worried, for even if the bird did attack him, there was no way it could take him down. Not by itself at least.
By the looks of it though, it wasn't going to happen either way. Good. One less obstacle to be dealing with, although he wasn't sure why he was starting to try and count them in the first place. "I...see. So you're new here?" He'd shrug casually. "I was about to head there actually, so I can show you the way." That'd be easy enough to do, and whatever it is this guy wanted there exactly? He could let the school's management deal with that part.
In regards to the vibes, the guy would be lucky this time, as Sharaku was one of the last people to see a blunt or just simply not overly nice response as an issue. As long as the person was not saying or doing something that'd warrant picking a fight or getting into an argument, he did not care how they said their piece. It was simply a response, and that was all it was to him. He was not very sensitive to the little things in the majority of cases. With the exception of when he happened to already be in an irritated mood, but it rarely got severe enough for him to be snappy so readily and even at strangers.
"Perhaps you could have asked someone. I'm certain that the majority of people here at least know where it is, if they haven't outright been there before. That way you would not need to spend money on that." Those who did not know were probably foreign visitors themselves. However those who lived in these areas ought to know that much. Plus, a lot of students from the Academy frequented this city as well, as it was the closest activity hub. |

Talon was a little more than just curious towards this man's actions, having never been offered even a little advice never mind being offered to be SHOWN where something was. Directions could have been sufficient enough, and even without them he would have come across the academy sooner or later. For someone to be so willing to actually show him where it was he was wanting to go was something that he was not expecting at all. It proved this man was at least one who was willing to help strangers, even if that was all.
*Then again, he could be leading me into some kind of trap. Some kind of street leech or something.*
This thought was one that didn't stick for long though, as those types of beings would almost always take Red's reaction as a threat and usually started up with some kind of scared victim role. The man before him had instead made some sort of joke. Not a reaction he had seem from many regarding the attitude of his bird. This was enough to let Talon know that the man was at least one he could follow to the Academy. He seemed young enough still to go to Eldritch, or at least fit the basic image of someone Talon would think was in a later year of such a school.
"Very well then. I will follow you. Not many other choices anyways, unless I want to wander the streets for a few more hours. Thank you."
Talon would reach his hand up to Red, letting the bird step onto his arm before holding him out. Pursing his lips, Talon let out a soft whistle which the hawk would respond to instantly, flapping his wings and taking off into the air. Talon figured the bird would rather keep to the air within the city, all the people seeming to have already put the bird on edge. Once Red was a good distance into the air, Talon turned his attention to this stranger once more, listening to his words. He had a point, many probably would have been able to point him in the right direction. The problem was Talon's skill in terms of social interaction.
"Yeah, I would have done that, if I felt it. Let's just say as things currently stand I'm not the most... sociable. Not usually one to just walk up and talk to someone I don't know. Usually don't even to the few I do know."
This last part was added under his breath, barely audible to someone with normal hearing. Talon was unaware of this stranger's hearing, and so he thought his addition would go unnoticed. With this thought in mind he would hold out his hand in gesture, offering the man to take the lead since Talon would be following him. He had been wandering the city long enough, and wished to finally get to his destination.
"Shall we, then? Your lead. Red will follow from the sky."

The Vamp Wolf | In all fairness, he did not care too much about the lives of strangers by default. Showing someone directions was an extremely simple task however, and he didn't even see it as an inconvenience or an action that'd take him effort to go out of his way and do in the name of help. Even less so when the destination in question was right where he was headed in the first place. It made almost no difference as to whether he walked alone or had someone trailing behind him. Same thing really, as long as they did not try to attack him.
He'd shake his head. "No need to thank me. I'm hardly going ouf of my way after all. I was going to go there alone or not, so this is just a simple addition to me." One that could generate noise, but he wasn't that antisocial, so it wasn't any kind of a serious problem. It should not be in theory, at the very least. That said, he did find the bird to be an interesting phenomenon. Some people did have pets, but he had to admit he hardly saw tamed creatures out in public and with more or less free reign to move around. Hawks were predators, and this one appeared to be quite feisty with how it threatened him just for approaching closer.
Huh. "You don't seem to do badly though. You are talking now, and I'm not seeing any problem with it. I think that a person doesn't need to be a social butterfly to hold conversations with people occassionally." He'd hum under his breath, his tone carrying a hint of amusement. "I'm not all that keen on socializing either, despite what it might appear like. Trustworthy people to talk to are hard to find, and there are far too many idiots in the world too. I've always figured I lose nothing by talking as long as I don't go spilling secrets carelessly though. Most people appreciate it...I think." It didn't hurt, and in case he hit it up with a truly annoying person, it wasn't like he lacked the gall to tell them to scram and leave him alone. Aggressive might as well be his middle name in situations of that type.
"Will do." With that cheeky answer in tow, he'd set off to walk towards their goal. It'd take a bit to get there on foot, but it wasn't extremely far. The guy was lucky he hadn't wandered way too far away from the correct paths due to getting lost. Nevertheless, he'd still turn his gaze towards his companion as they walked. "Say, would your bird eat people? Sure seemed eager to take a bite out of me at first." |

The words which this man had spoken were some that Talon found interesting, to say the least. Here was a man who seemed to have been within this city for a while and yet had a similar view on other people as he did. He highly doubted their views were similar for the same reason, and they differed a little bit. Where Talon didn't really care of one's personality so long as they weren't completely rude, this man seemed to take certain aspects into account to decide if social interaction was worth it. At least, that is what Talon got from the conversation.
"My reasons for being antisocial are a bit different, it would seem. Let's just say I never had anyone to actually trust besides Red... and leave it at that for now. Just another reason we left out home and came here."
Indeed he had left for that reason and a few others. He hoped that by coming to this place he would be able to start a new life, a better one with a less depressing beginning, middle and end. Already it seemed to be starting off rather well, having met someone who was willing to help him when they didn't even know him. People from his homeland wouldn't even look at him, and they had known him their whole life. And here Talon was, walking through these city streets with a man who claimed that most in this city were willing to help a stranger even if the help was just them giving directions.
As they walked, Talon found himself paying a bit more attention to their surroundings, though keeping his head tilted down still as to hide his face. Shops, restaurants, malls and even small entertainments stalls were set up all over this part of the city. If he had to guess this was some sort of plaza, a central location for activity within a city like this. His home town only had a small market square, where a few shops were set up and restaurants were extinct. He could tell that getting use to life within this city would take some time, and probably some patience as well.
The question about Red threw him off a little. Red? Eat an actual person? He knew as a fact that, while the hawk would attack on command, would never even think of feasting on the flesh of a human. The bird always seemed to keep a strict diet of rodents and fish. Even after the hawk had learned to hunt on his own he never ate anything other than those very things. The only time he would ever eat anything else was when Talon himself was handing it to him, like when he had fed the bird some of his lunch just minutes before.
"No, he does not. All he eats is small rodents, fish and any scraps I might give him. His behavior earlier was because of how we have lived. He and I are the only friends we have. I raised him and he has been a loyal friend and ally since. And the only time he might attack someone is if I gave the command to do so. But even then he only attacks to maim, never to devour. At most he is a painful distraction."

The Vamp Wolf | Well...the guy wasn't necessarily correct about that. Their reasons were in fact rather similar, or were in retrospect. His parents never liked him due to him being a hybrid of two species whom were normally big enemies, and he did not doubt his existence had been more of an unfortunate accident. Sure, he had lived with his father and the vampire group, but clearly none of them were overjoyed about a half werewolf being amongst them. He had decided to leave and be a loner too, therefore the sentiment was quite similar. Alas, his views on handling social interactions have changed over time, which made for the present differences.
Taking a sip of his 'juice', he'd shrug his shoulders vaguely. "Actually, it's both the same and not at the same time. I used to think like that when I was younger. I didn't have anyone who liked me either and I did basically run away too. I just...don't consider being antisocial important anymore. And to be fair I was more aggressive than that anyway." He never shied away from talking to people. He had just been very prone to be in attack mode and did not think anyone very safe. Even as a kid, he had always been a big rebel and would mouth off against the adults without any shame. Did that count as being antisocial? Perhaps in a way. "I consider myself an opportunist these days. I see everyone as neutral to start with. Don't necessarily trust them, but also do not assume they're ready to backstab me. Honestly, I doubt most could bring me down in one go anyway, and if someone hates me? Well, who cares, their opinion is not on the top of my list at all." Why would he define himself by what others said if he could just be confident in himself? Some would say he had a big ego, but he saw it as a natural thing to do.
Taking the occassional turn here and there as they passed through the bustling areas of the city, he'd take a glance upwards, testing if he could spot the hawk. "Hmph, he probably would not like the taste of me anyway. Sounds like a loyal animal though. Better than some of the whiners I deal with at times..." Man, he did get along with the bats alright, but were they such primadonnas sometimes... |

Talon was unaware of this man's past, and it was for this reason he was unaware of how similar their beginning were. And even if he had been aware of such information, he lacked certain skill which might have let him deduce just how similar they were. Either way, Talon had a lot of work to do when it came to reading others and interacting with them. It was something he hoped he could improve upon by coming here to the Academy. While he didn't know for sure how the classes within the place was, he felt that such a facility in a city this big would have more interactions with others than solo training and classes. At the current moment, comparing beginnings didn't matter to him. In fact, he would rather completely forget his own beginning if he could. That was in his past, and was something he wished to leave there for the current time.
"I never saw being anti social as important. Nor did I ever actually want to be. It was the only way I could survive is all. After living your whole life in seclusion away from even your own people, one's habits of sticking to them self often stick for a while even after they leave their own life. At least in my case it does."
He watched Red's shadow circle around on the ground, realizing his bird was keeping a watchful eye on the two of them. While he knew the bird wouldn't attack unprovoked and without command, he knew that his loyal friend still liked to keep watch over his master. The two had always had each other and no one else, having never been given the chance to even attempt to make other friends. He was glad that Red had come along all this way, or else he really would have been completely alone in this city.
"If I said I didn't care what others thought of me, I would be lying. Sure, I find it hard to trust others, but that doesn't mean I want to come off as rude or mean or anything like that. Even then though, I wouldn't let such things get in the way of a job."
Red would land on a lamp post not far from them, cocking his head to the side and picking at his feathers as they grew closer. Once they passed him, he would take off once more and land a little farther ahead. He did this to reserve his energy. He had been flying all day, and still had to recover from the trip to this city. However even if he needed rest from the trip, he would refuse to stop until he was sure that their travels were over.
"He is loyal indeed. If I were truthful, I doubt I could trust anyone as much as I trust that bird. I might not have made it here were it not for him. He got me out of a few tight spots during the journey. Creatures I never knew existed, hungry for flesh and willing to kill for it. Yet there Red was, willing to risk it all for me. Sometimes I wonder if he has more intellect than some people. There are times he acts it."
The words Talon spoke were true to heart, and ones he would tell anyone who asked. The bond between him and Red was one that he knew couldn't be broken. Sure, there were tough times, and Red had left a few scars on him, but the aftermath of those times always made them that much stronger together. An outcast and his bird, both born to live alone in a land they weren't welcome in. Talon felt he was lucky to have found Red, and was thankful to have at least that one friend.
He wondered if he might meet more who he would come to trust here. Perhaps this man who was leading him to the Academy could be one of those? At this point, only time could tell.

The Vamp Wolf | "Only way?" He'd tilt his head to the side in mild confusion at the idea. "Would they have tried to hurt you if you spoke up to anybody? I mean, I get that it might've been impossible to make friends with them, but that by itself does not bar other forms of talking. Just like one can speak with people they don't trust and simply wing it somehow." Maintaining a bolder attitude could be helpful. He didn't have a lot of personal experience, but he would at the very least guess that getting stuck deep in a habit of being very reclusive and antisocial would be a big obstacle once leaving the original place you lived at. In many cases, communicating with others was necessary to some extent at least.
He'd snort faintly at the mention of being or not being rude. If only it was always as simple as making the effort. Some people would perceive almost anything that wasn't sugarcoated all the way as being mean. "I've half given up on that. As much as you can try to alter your own conduct, you can't do anything about how sensitive other people are. They might think you mean even when you're not attempting to be. Besides, I don't like to play pretend and be who I'm not just to make people feel more comfortable. I appreciate the honesty in return too." What good came out of people masquerading around each other? That was a good way to never be sure who you can trust, because even after knowing them for ages you will find out you...don't truly know who they are.
"Animals aren't dumb, naturally. I can't say they have the same intellectual capacity as us though. They do excel at making deep bonds however. It's natural of them to protect someone they see as family." For most of them, that is. Not all animals cared that much, but birds were more social especially when raised that way. "I guess you got lucky though. If you only met beasts that could be defeated by a mere bird of prey. You could have had a worse fate out there, depending on which lands you wandered through." Some of the wild creatures could require a skilled fighter to slay them, and if one met an actual tribe of people from other races and they decided to be hostile to an 'intruder'? That could be very bad.
Hmmm. He'd squint a bit through the sun as they walked. God he should have grabbed a pair of shades before going out. Today was seriously unfortunate at random. Still, they were getting close now, so that was a plus. |

"Hurt me, wound me, beat me down into a mentally unstable and insecure mess. If they had their way I am sure they would have done everything they could to make me even afraid to leave that place, never mind even attempt to use my abilities. Put simply, I was a freak to them, a dangerous one at that. And so they refused to do anything with me excluding that which was required by laws. I have only spoken to one other from my homeland, and they left years ago."
His guide's words had some truth to them, a truth which Talon had accepted already. True, while he did care a little bit what other's thought of him, it truly only extended to those he would consider friends or allies, should he ever attain such relationships. He didn't care what a typical stranger thought of him. So long as they didn't do anything against him he couldn't care less. The only opinions that mattered were of those he might one day trust. Those he might fight alongside or train with. Especially in a school where everyone knew magic.
"I don't plan on changing anything about myself. I will always do whatever I feel is right in whatever moment that is. At most I'll just get things done in a way that keeps casualties and collateral damage to a minimum, should something come to such measures. I would just rather not be instantly hated upon sight like before."
He looked up to his bird as he saw his shadow fly by once more, spotting Red flying over top of the buildings. He was more than likely keeping an eye out for his own lunch, as he usually hunted down food around the same times that Talon ate. Talon pursed his lips once more and let out a higher pitched and slightly longer whistle, holding his arm out as Red would dive down from the sky once more and land upon his forearm. After adjusting his friend's position to his shoulder, Talon would turn back to the golden-eyed man and speak once more.
"Well, I would hope he thinks of me as family, after all we have been through together. He is the only one I have ever considered such. And as for him saving me, its not like he actually killed the beast. He just blinded it. Went for its eyes. Took a risk doing so, the creature was quick. It was just distracted by me, caught me off guard."
Red kept his head on a swivel from his perch upon Talon's shoulder, letting out a small cry as though to agree with him. Now that Talon was speaking more with their guide, the bird seemed to relax a little. Talon had no reason not to trust this man yet, as he seemed to be genuine in both words and actions. Red could sense this and acted upon his master's action, now focusing on any of those who they passed.
"And I understand the risks I took when I decided to travel across the lands. I was willing to take those risks as well. If it meant the payoff was a new life and learning to harness my gifts then it was well worth it."
He looked up the street which they were on, taking in the sights of the city a little more. The farther into their little journey they went, the more that Talon saw and was amazed by. The city had so much more to offer than his little town, and seemed to have a much larger range in goods as well as activities one could partake in just for fun. Despite his amazement, however, he felt it might take a bit to get use to it all.
"So, how much longer till we arrive? I knew the Academy was a little farther into the city, but never knew the exact location."

The Vamp Wolf | "They're all fools. Even to this day, so many people exclude those who do not follow their perceived norms...whether it's race or ability based, neither of which one can control. It's unbelievable how cruel people can be, despite the fact that the diversity of the world should be teaching us the exact opposite." What was so wrong about not being super typical? The notion was so stupid, honestly. Same went for those who hunted others based solely on the species. The discrimination rates were horribly high, and it made him wonder why nobody was doing anything about that. Were they just going to eventually escalate into big inter-species wars and the like?
Hm. "Unless you develop a shitty reputation, you should be fine. Although every school has its share of thugs and bullies who pick on people for no reason." He'd shrug there. "Can't do a lot about that..." Fight them maybe, but then you were likely to get your own ass in trouble too. "Animal instincts are a useful thing. Almost all people, especially those who have no relation to beasts, would hesitate in the face of a risk. Most animals won't. They know it's do or die." Or flee, but that's not always an option, unfortunately.
"Well, good luck there. It will probably not be an easy ride." His tone would turn towards some amusement there before he glanced off into the distance of their path. "A couple more minutes I'd say. It's more towards the outskirts technically, as the area is large, what with all the dorm space they provide and everything. That would not fit in the central depths of a city well." |

Talon was glad to hear that those within the city, or at least this man, didn't just turn someone away because of things they had no control over. Talon hadn't picked the abilities he had, yet his own home had shunned him for having them. This man, who Talon had met only a few minutes ago, was explaining how such a thing was ridiculous and that the opposite was for the best. Perhaps Talon would enjoy life here after all, even if getting use to the city would take a while.
"Red taught me how to stand my ground. During early hunts he would go up against animals larger than myself, even if he was only trying to stop them. From that I learned that running from a fight or just lying down and taking the beating wasn't the right option. It may sound odd, but it is because of this bird that I never run from a fight, even if it is just a hunt."
While he definitely wouldn't ignore this man's advice about those he might meet in the Academy, he already figured he would just keep his distance as best he could from such characters. He had no plans to fight fellow students or cause any kind of trouble for the school, and felt that keeping a peaceful attitude about them might be the best option. Though, while he might not know it yet, Talon wouldn't stand for any of these bullies ganging up against a single individual. It would remind him of those within his homeland who had bullied the five percent just for fun.
"Ah, is it? Well, I guess that information is less reliable when you live in a less populated place like I did. Not even sure where the papers came from."
He looked over his shoulder to see the city stretching into he distance. Just how many people lived here? And what all could he find within the limits of the city? He felt he wouldn't be able to explore it all within a year for how large it was. Then again, it could just be that he was so use to such a tiny town. Whichever was more accurate, he was relieved to have made it here and planned to make his life a better one, no matter how long it took or how difficult a journey it would be.
"I guess I should introduce myself, since you are kind enough to lead the way. The name is Talon."

The Vamp Wolf | “Fair enough…although I’d wager to say it’s not a given that staying in a fight is always the right option. In some situations, a strategic retreat can be better than getting battered heavily by sticking with it. Giving up and laying down is definitely the most cowardly option though, unless your opponent is a beast that will lose interest in something it thinks to be already dead. Then maybe it could be a life-saving move if you’re in bad shape…” Well, musing aloud aside, the dynamics of battle, whether in hunts or more critical situations were a surprisingly complex matter. There was no one sole approach that was the best in general, as much as being bold was helpful in the scarier looking confrontations.
“I suppose it depends on how one looks at it. No part of the city is entirely barren anyway, and a big school structure makes for an activity hub of its own too.” It wasn’t like the place was such a way off that nothing was around it, and it was certainly not a quiet area to live at. Not with so many loud youngsters milling about. “Well, you should be able to see it now, anyhow.” He’d wave a hand towards the large buildings and structures a bit ahead of them before turning his gaze back to his companion, an amused expression on his face. “I can make do with that. You can call me Sharaku.” He hadn’t even thought to ask before to be honest, as he didn’t need someone’s name to remember them, but it was never bad to know. “Since you’ve read up on this place, I assume you have an idea of how studying here works? Any specific path you’re aiming to sign up for?” |

Talon nodded to the man's words, and agreed to a certain extent. While he had always stood his ground in battle, and planned to continue doing so, he knew that one day he would come across an enemy he would have to retreat from. He knew that he would have to know when that was, or else he might come to an early end. Until then though he would so what he always did, and face challenges head on.
"Well, of course one day I will be forced to retreat. But even then I will hold off from running until I am sure that there is nothing else to be done. It is jut how I am. I understand the strategic value in retreating at certain times, I have always just used it as a last resort."
He looked around at the city around them and thought of how what this man said was true. Talon had traveled through quite a few areas of the city during his day, trying to find the Academy, and realized that while some parts of the city were less populated, none of them were actually barren. They all had at least a number of people and some stores as well. Each part of the city was used in its own way, nothing was left just sitting and unused. He liked this aspect of the city. The people had their land and they used it.
And it was then, as he turned back to where they were walking, that he saw the Academy. It was larger than he had initially thought, and looked even better than in the picture. Just from what little he could see he could already tell the lands around it were plenty, and the interior of the building had to have been huge. Far larger than anything he had seen from his hometown. He felt he might get lost inside just from looking at it from here.
*This is going to take some getting use to.*
His head turned to his guide, listening to his name and trying to make sure he had it committed to memory. He never had to memorize anyone's name, save his own. He wondered just how many names he would have to remember during his time in the Academy. Ten? Twenty? One hundred? No matter how many it was, it would be more than he ever thought he would have to remember.
"Sharaku, huh? I'll try to remember it. Not sure how I'll be with names. Guess we will find out."
Indeed he had read up the different courses int he Academy. The one that caught his eye was one that was rather close to what he had done most of his life anyways; hunt and fight. The path of a Hunter, one of the main courses of the Academy. He had learned to hunt from a young age, having to feed himself without help from anyone. With that came the need to fight against creatures who might come to take away his game or maybe even hunt him instead. He had a quite a bit of physical fighting experience due to this, so he knew he could learn such easily. He just had to work on his arcane abilities. Once he got that down, he knew he could make a good Hunter.
"Yes, I looked into one main course. That of being a Hunter. I have experience fighting creatures, even if they aren't quite on the same scale as those a trained Hunter would go after. Plus, because of how I grew up, I have a bit too much energy than to stay in one place like a Guardian or Scholar. I may not seem it from first impression, but that is just because I am just getting use to the city. may I ask what you are going for?"
