welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

It was a simple event. In the opening weeks of the school year, when the breeze stiffens and the leaves crunch, a simple talent show is hosted. No, not where you would show off your singing or juggling skills, that was for the untalented. Ironically. This talent show is outside, firstly, on a clay battleground (a former tennis court, Seth thinks), and secondly, it’s a show of superpowers. Quaintly named, the event has all but a single rule, don’t aim for the head. And a second one, don’t accidentally kill your opponent. But that’s just Minstere law. Anyways. The event is proctored by Dr. Theodosia (or is it Dr. Jasmine Theodosia? Jasmine-Theodosia? Is her name hyphenated?) and set up like a basic tournament, advertising the “grand magical games” that her classes would take part in the latter half of the school year. A big advertisement for her class.
Seth already fought his way through the first battle. Though, he considers himself lucky for that, with his opponent utilizing fire to attack. A quick splash was all it took for the other student to surrender. Now, standing on the clay battlefield in gym-attire, which he assumes was the appropriate wear for dueling other people, he sees a familiar name as his next opponent. He quickly checks the plastic jugs of water around his waist. They’re completely full, just like that last time he checked, half a minute ago. He’s not sure he looks nervous, but he definitely is on the inside. LAIKA OF THQ

Staring up into the dimly lit sky Aspen frowned. The sun had made itself rare, as was characteristic for this time of the year when the wind grew cold and the days short. She sighed. It was no use and it couldn't be helped. Of course, that wasn't the sole thing on the girl's mind, her thoughts primarily revolving around the task she had been given by her Clan. She was nervous, understandably so, though her face remained stoic and expressionless, cold some might say, as always, reflecting none of her internal thought processes. The girl stepped forward. It was her turn again.
This "talent show", if it could even be called that, was literally that: People showing off their talents in a classic duel, with classic rules as well, one might add, to rise up in a sort of tournament system. It was nothing fancy, the event was held on what Aspen could only speculate was a place used by the school for physical activities, but it would suffice. This was exactly what she had come here for. To hone her skills for battle and learn how to use them effectively, not to waste her time with boring classes, half of which worked to provide knowledge she would never use again in her life. Although, of course, school life had its own little charm for itself, something she had never experienced before. The sheer tranquility and carelessness of these people was amusing.
So this would be her next opponent, hm ? Aspen couldn't really remember if she had seen the boy somewhere before, he seemed somewhat familiar, and his hair had a nice colour to it, but ... that was about it. With one hand, the girl's hand grasped the cross of pure silver around her neck, closing her eyes. "I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.", opening her eyes once again, her amber pupils flaring up with glowing energy as she spoke her prayer, "I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies."
The coins in the pockets all over her body and the bracelets of pure iron ringing metallically with every one of her steps into the "arena", she was ready, her eyes travelling up and down her enemies' form before bowing, at least she would respect the other as a combatant. With that, the girl took a stance, taking a deep breath, her left hand filled with coins, her right hand beckoning the foe to make a move, her expressionless face focussed on the other student before her. Aspen was confident, but very much acknowledged that she was still a beginner. Anything was possible at this point. She took a deep breath. "Ready ! Set ! GO !", the words of the referee echoed over the space. Maybe she could avoid a scar this time.

His opponent outstretched her left arm, revealing coins. Coins. The single aspect of Mistere that has hurt him the most so far. Metal. Everywhere. Cashiers dumping his change into his hands, only for a loud, pained yelp from him. He's been thankful everyday he's had a debit card. He just hopes that they're silver coins. Anything with iron in it... Ouch. He tries to hide it, but his face details his horror at the metallic gesture. His eyes grow wide and his mouth opens slightly, agape. His confidence fades. Any move from here on out would have to be spotless. And he wasn't sure of his ability to do so. Speed. He'll have to use his speed to his advantage. Or maybe fly? That feels unfair. While he's lost in thought, she murmurs something, but he pays no mind to it, other than that it happened.
He recovers his composition, and nods, smiling politely. She bends over, not completely, and dips forward, body making a curved shape. Confused, he copies her. Probably some human custom he doesn't know.
"Ready, set, go!" the referee, says before blowing into their whistle. It looks like Aspen was giving him the first move. Or if she wasn't it's probably best to act her anyways. He lowers his stance. One leg pivots toward his opponent, and the other away from her. The 'pop-on, pop-off' caps of his water jugs open easily with a small amount of pressure from the contained water. He lets the entirety of the stored water flow out into a amorphous shape directly in front of him. It's easier to utilize his speed if he doesn't have forty pounds of water weighing him down. His back feels the relief, especially. He moves his right arm, palm facing outwards to the mass of water in front of him, then with his left arm, whirls it into orbit around his body. He isn't too worried about 'dropping' his water. The weather was chilly enough where it wouldn't evaporate quickly.
With a quick breath out and an intervention of his right arm, a wide, crescent-shaped sculpture of ice whizzes through the air at Aspen. It's blunt. If in a life threatening situation, he would've used a... sharper shape, but it wasn't really his business stabbing someone in the first week of school. Or at all, actually. He'd much prefer to freeze her hands and legs together. But he would have to be in melee range for that, which is something he doesn't want to risk, with her plentiful coinage showing off. So this was how the guy would use the water that he had been stowing behind his back, huh ? Most interesting. In Aspen's mind, this would prove to be an intriguing part of training towards her ultimate goal. When the whistle of the signal to start came up, her opponent had lost no time and moved all of his water into a huge sphere before surrounding himself in a swirl. "Not a bad idea", the girl thought as, with Aspen crossing her arms in front of herself, the coins started pouring from the various pouches and pockets all over her body, the air around her beginning to fill with more and more metal, coins hovering everywhere within the vicinity of the human girl.
When her opponent released a wave of ice, Aspen reacted quickly, some of the coins rushing forwards before turned into a homogenous mass of liquified metal that expanded outward, creating a wall of this alloy. From what Aspen could sense, the mass was mostly a mix of copper, iron, carbon and aluminium. more than sturdy enough. The ice slammed into the now hardened wall of metal, shattering into fragments and losing its momentum upon forcefully slamming into the shield with a metallic ring, Aspen immediately following up on the attack, the wall liquifying into a sphere of metal along with all other coins still hovering around her, much like her opponent forming a sphere of liquid for her to draw her element from. Now that the other had attacked, it was her turn, from the sphere of metal bursting forth 2 brass coloured chains that exploded towards her opponent with the intention of wrapping around his body or arms to immobilize him and hold him in place. Regardless of whether this would succeed or not, Aspen already prepared the next attack, her glowing eyes centered on the enemy before her as two smaller balls of pure iron emerged from the metallic sphere, Aspen sending the projectiles at the boy with a sweep of her hand. They wouldn't kill the other, of course, maybe leave a bruise if they hit, but in any case would certainly hurt.

Ugh. And here it comes. His ice painlessly shatters upon contact with her metal shield, and after a quick refractory period, two pretty-colored chains surge towards him. He isn't taking any risks. While most of his body is covered in some form of clothing, luckily, but he's not really in a position to assume he's completely safe. At least if it breaks skin, the wound will instantly cauterize. If that's even a good thing. The entirety of his water circles in the ring around him. As the two chains speeds towards him, he 'catches' them in an appendix stream of water, freezing the ends together and holding them in his icy, telekinetic grip. In the corner of his eye, he spots two cannonballs coming towards him, in his peripheral vision. He tries to react quickly, strafing to his right, evading the first, which unfortunately puts him directly in the path of the other projectile. He moves the orbiting ring of water in the path of the metal ball and freezes it into place, before dropping it a little ways in front of him, still encased in ice. Just to keep an eye on it.
The likelihood of his water breaking through her literal, iron-hard defenses, is close to zero. It's more of a battle of wits currently. He decides on a staple tactic of his art. The water surrounding him suddenly falls to the ground with a loud splash. Still, under his control, however, it spreads evenly upon the center of the battlefield. Drawing more moisture from the air, as well, the great puddle is accentuated, growing to cover the majority of the battlefield. With a firm stomp of his left foot, the water freezes, almost turning the former tennis court into an ice skating rink. Which is intentional. His feet stabilize on the slippery ground, and with the ends of Aspen's chains still under his control, he starts 'ice skating' (or whatever you would call it if you didn't have ice skates on), darting with extreme speed towards, no, not Aspen, but her flank, with her chains in tow. He darts around to her backside and begins his way around her, looking intent on wrapping her in her own chains. His true intent, however, is freezing her feet into the icy ground. Water creeps around her shoes and he hopefully freezes them in place. LAIKA OF THQ
