welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The sun crests over the horizon; it’s a scene straight out of a fairy tale, the evening light painting the sky gold and limning the the tall buildings of the academy with beauty.
Not that Esialeth would know.
She’s confined herself to the Sage tower’s rarely-used underground kitchen, baking all manner of confections until she can puzzle out a solution to her problem. The air is almost stiflingly warm, and the table is littered with exquisite sweets, baking tools, and...stationery?
“Not. Working,” she hisses vengefully to her half-frosted cake. She tosses her artisanal dagger (that she was using as an offset spatula) aside and sits down at the table, dipping a pen violently into the inkpot.
Please take one, she writes slowly, in beautiful, looping letters, hoping to stimulate her mind in any way possible. Pauses.
She underlines please.
Momentarily satisfied with her work, she sets the pen down—washes her hands, for the little stunt earlier, and the dagger, since it’s—quite beautiful, actually— and paces around the kitchen, tossing the dagger as she moves.
“Lyrium enhances magic, wolfsbane helps transformations, nightshade strengthens existing medications—all diluted, so despite their toxicity, they should—why won’t they let me study the Gadoba trees?”

Catherine was kind of hungry after spending two hours walking the track. She wanted something quick and tasty to eat. Nutritional value was not a consideration. She wandered into the Sage dorms and followed her nose to the downstairs area. She spotted a young woman with a cake, a dagger, and an inkpot. Catherine also spotted a beautifully written sign imploring passersby to "take one." Take one what? There was only one cake. Then the brunette turned to the young woman with a dagger. Her eyes then turned to the cake.
The brunette had stumbled into trouble. The cake was either poisoned or laced with a listening device. The young woman was an agent sent to eliminate her before she discovered the extent of her abilities. The baker thought that she was being clever. Catherine was not falling for it.
She was sure that hidden cameras were in the corners of the room. They had already seen her. How was she going to get out of this mess?

Esialeth turns at the sound of a door opening, exclaims “Oh! A customer!” in a tiredness-induced haze.
She’s never had a customer in her life. Including now.
“Please, take whatever you want. I’m really hope I don’t end up having to pack up the extras…maybe I should have some as well…actually, that’s a great idea!”
Esialeth selects one of the strawberry cakes, looking for a knife. She of course fails to find one, yet she doesn’t seem to mind in the least. Picking up her trusty yet oft-abused dagger, she deftly cuts and plates two slices and wipes off the leftover whipped-cream frosting with a snow-white cloth.
“There, that should—wait!” she gasps in apparent mortification, suddenly near faux-tears. “I didn’t even ask you what flavor you wanted...I’m so sorry!”
Had anyone known Esialeth before the past day, they would be absolutely certain that she had gone completely, verifiably insane. Rare was the chance that she even responded to others outside of the pleasantries...and now here she was, talking away like it was the end of the world.
Well, it kind of was. For her.
But no one knew that, did they?

The Vamp Wolf | Boredom was always one of the strongest motivators for getting up and doing something, and it was for that very reason Sharaku was out of his room this evening instead of just sitting by his desk doing virtually nothing. Albeit, it could hardly be said he was doing a whole lot more by being in the dorm halls, but it gave him extra space to pace around, which was something to be appreciated, if nothing else was. It wasn't like he really had anything else to do, seeing as he wasn't particularly buddy-buddy with anyone so far, as far as he was aware. Unless he was missing something, but that was highly unlikely in his opinion.
Regardless, he would soon find himself absentmindedly walking to towards the kitchen area after having picked up on the fact that there was noise coming there, meaning someone was there. Not the most common occurrence, so it was maybe worth taking a look at. Or better put, he just had nothing better to do with his life, despite the fact that he didn't particularly care at the end of the day. Maybe he'd catch a ghost haunting the pots? At least that would be remotely interesting. Alas, his 'wishes' wouldn't turn out to be true, as he'd find himself walking upon two females, one of which was familiar even. Oh great, wasn't he such a lucky person? Blinking at the scenery, the currently shirtless tall man would lean himself against the frame of the doorway with a simple comment. "It's oddly crowded in here." |

Esialeth squints. With the bright gold of the kitchen lights and the warm, heavy air, she was beginning to feel a little lightheaded, swaying lightly on her feet. So when someone vaguely familiar walked in, it took her a moment to realize that he wasn't wearing a shirt.
Oh, she is so, so tired. The urge to cry out in frustration is almost unbearable.
"Please," she starts. Falters. "Please put on a shirt. Before you take anything."
Maybe this was a mistake. Maybe she should have snuck onto the training grounds, borrowed an abnormally heavy axe, and let the winter air war with her inner fire until she was too tired to think.
But she had made her bed, and now she must lie in it. Even if it was tower-high and full of social convention. She sits in one of the rickety chairs, rubs her temples, and says no more.

Catherine was not sure what to make of the shirtless guy. He seemed to think a lot of himself to show up like that, but his most striking feature was his golden eyes. They were bright, almost as bright as her own. Was he... was he another Nano-Augmented Human? He could not have been... could he?
"I'll take strawberry, if you don't mind and have some to spare." Catherine replied to the query. She doubted that listening devices were in strawberry cake because the reddish-pink frosting would make them stand out too much. However, they could still be laced with poison. Maybe the golden-eyed guy should try a confection first. On second thought, maybe not.
She would try one. As paranoid as the brunette was, she did not want someone to die from poisoning. She had a better chance of surviving it than he did because of her augmented immune system.

Esialeth is suddenly reminded of a line from a joke years dead.
"You gotta draw the line somewhere! You gotta draw a fuckin' line in the sand, dude! You gotta make a statement! You gotta look inside yourself and say, 'what am I willing to put up with today?' NOT FUCKIN' THIS!!"
Okay, Esialeth thought. Okay. Drawing the line.
"Well," Esialeth said, ever so sweetly, "These are my pastries. I even bought the ingredients! So," and at this she scoops a chunk of cake off her slice with a comically small fork, "I'm charging something for them. The price of a pastry or a slice of cake is wearing a shirt when you are within my sight, or pay thrice your life savings. See, it's even graduated. I'm a progressive person!"
She takes another bite of cake. Maybe I should get out more, she thinks, then immediately crushes the thought. I cant do that; I have work! I'm not going out unless it's to steal the Gadoba fruit myself.
Wait.
Esialeth feels an idea brewing, fox-crazy but not impossible, and feels the gears in her mind slot into place once again.
