welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Capone had gone through quite a bit to get here. She had tried to invite a random person to this, but had not really been successful. For a bit there she’d thought to find someone else. But then it had occurred to her. If she really wanted to meet someone great. Then this was the best place to do it.
“Here’s your glasses, which Cockatrice would you like to beat on today?” Asked the man behind the glass. Despite this being an underground criminal affair, they did keep it tidy and neat.
Of course the glass was both bullet and magic proof. At least it was magic proof to the magics they knew of. There was probably a way to get through it, but Capone didn’t care about that right now. She put on the enchanted shades she had been given- ensuring that watching the fight would not get her accidentally turned to stone- then placed her bet.
She then walked to the ring, The forty year old purple haired woman pushing her way to the front. Upon getting there she turned to her neighbor, shooting her best winning smile. “Hey there. Name’s Capone. Come here often?”

"Something wrong? What's the hold up? Are you going to let me bet on one of the birds or not? Hurry up already!"
Shortly before Capone had arrived at the arena another student from the academy had made their way down to the underground event. Unlike Capone, however, the man at the front looked down on this girl in confusion as she impatiently waved the money she wanted to bet in his face. What was causing him to hesitate? It was simple. The girl currently standing in front of him didn't look like she was any older than fifteen. What appeared to be a child in a bright yellow kimono and no shoes had appeared in front of him at an underground criminal event and demanded to make a bet on a Cockatrice. The situation was completely absurd and if it wasn't for the fact that their were a number of species known for not looking their age he would've shooed her away without hesitation.
Instead he found himself staring dumbfounded at the child in front of him. If she was really was just from another species shouldn't she at least of come here in a form that was more intimidating? The man would've pondered the situation longer but it was obvious at this point that the individual in front of him had almost completely run out of patient and to make matters worse the line was beginning to build up behind her. So without another moment of hesitation the man accepted the money and gave the girl a pair of glasses as she pointed at the name of the bird she wanted to bet on. After receiving her glasses the girl made her way into the crowd around the arena with a skip in her step, clearly having temporarily forgotten the agitation she had been feeling just moments before.
Isn't this fun?! We get to watch an epic fight between two monsters, earn some money, and maybe we'll even get to meet some underground crime boss or something! I told you this was going to be far more interesting than anything you had planned Manami~"
You're completely insane.... I mean I knew that already but don't you think even your being a bit too reckless right now Leviathan! We're leaving before you do something stupid that gets us both hurt."
Oh! Stop being such a buzzkill! This is far cooler than anything we'd be doing in the academy right now! What? Would you prefer going to library and reading some book written by some guy hundreds of years ago? You've got to learn to add a bit of thrill to your life. Otherwise I'm going to die of boredom in here! As for us leaving I think you are forgetting something very important. We made a deal. I stopped annoying you while you were studying in exchange for you giving me free reign over our body for the day. You no longer have a say in the matter"
With those last words said Leviathan stuck her tongue out mocking Manami though for everyone around the girl it would seem as if she was sticking her tongue out for no reason. Fortunately, Leviathan truly didn't care what other people thought of her and instead moved to the edge of the arena to peer through the glass as the two cockatrices were released into the field. A look of pure glee had spread across the daemon's face and she looked on to the soon to be bloody battle. She was completely engrossed into the display of feral combat until she was suddenly snapped out of her trance by the voice of someone next to her.
In that moment Leviathan's face darkened as she recognized the malevolent force inhabiting the body of the person addressing her. It was one of her kin, another daemon. However, this darkened expression only lasted a moment and after it passed the girl's gleeful grin returned to her face as if nothing had happened. If Leviathan had picked up anything from Manami over the years it was probably not to instantly assume the worst of everyone you met. Maybe this Capone wasn't trying to steal her contract. If that was true than Leviathan would finally have someone she'd be willing to talk to besides Manami. Someone who could understand her.
"Nice to meet you Capone! The name's Leviathan though you can just call me Levi for short. This is actually my first time coming here since Manami usual doesn't let me do anything interesting. It's really a pain in the neck!"

It took Capone a second to realize what she was looking at. She honestly hadn’t really looked at who she was talking to until just now. Now that she was, it was glaringly obvious that she was talking to another daemon. Holy damn. She hadn’t seen another one of those it a hot minute.
She had a compulsion to hide her left arm behind her back or pull her long sleeve down further, but pushed that away. What the hell was she? Some shy school girl hiding an embarrassing birthmark? She could hide it, but she didn’t care for how pitiful or weird that would make her look. He’d see it eventually any ways. And they were seeing each other’s souls to an extent anyways. If he really looked her frigging sleeve wasn’t going to hide what had literally been carved into her soul and ensured that it would be plainly shown on any vessel she might ever inhabit.
What was on her left arm was a phrase in the daemonic language. It had been put there by someone who had once been a friend of hers… But once she had been made of the two daemons that had fused to become one another. Primarily because the circumstances of said fusion were unseemly. There was a very good reason daemons tended to make contracts with the people whose souls they were going to devour. It was because devouring a soul forcefully, without even the semblance of consent could turn… Ugly. This phrase upon her arm, “unholy fusion” was a warning sign to any daemon that could read it of her nature.
“Holy shit, never thought I’d run into a daemon here! What’re the odds?” Capone laughed in amazement, putting her hand on Levi’s shoulder. “Yah, I totally get you. My vessel wouldn’t be caught dead here either.”

The girl had put no effort in hiding the writing on her arm and with Leviathan already peering into her soul it didn't take long for the girl to put two and two together. Forcibly eating a soul without a contract was dangerous business and not something the yellow clad girl had plans of ever doing. Yet its not like she could judge her kin. After all she had been sharing Manami's body for hundreds of years now and hadn't made a single move to devour the girl's soul. Sure, she had the contract for it but with the terms she agreed to their simply wasn't anything she could do. Will you be my friend? It was such a simple and childish request yet it was what had kept the daemon bound to Manami for years.
"I know right! I don't even know how long its been since I've seen another daemon! Than again my vessels has always been a bit of a loner..."
A small grin would appear on the yellow clad girl's face as she heard Manami's voice echo throughout her mind, complaining about being called a loner. Oh, how Levi loved teasing her vessel like this and since she had been given complete authority today there was nothing the Sin Eater could do to stop her. She could insult and mock the girl all day without any repercussions till tomorrow. As she came to this realization her small grin turned into a devilish one without any context for her current companion.
"Your vessel is a total buzzkill as well?! Tell me, is she also the super academic type? Like the one who'd give up going out and having fun just so they could study for an exam? It's soooooo lame! I bet you know how to have fun though! So who'd you bet on for the fight?"

“Not even that. If she were she’d have the wit to realize her talent’s in Chronomancy. But nope! Left to her own devices she wouldn’t even be going to school.” She was a truly pathetic soul. Of which Capone could not do much with lest she rend her own timeline rather than bend it.
Capone was mildly relieved that the other daemon did not react too negatively to the writing on her arm. "But naturally I know how to have fun. I'm here aren't I? I bet on that one there, Cluck Norris." She pointed to the aforementioned Medusa chicken.

Haha! Well I guess not. Here I was thinking our vessels could get along and just nerd out together. Well regardless you've managed to peak my curiosity. You said she wouldn't be attending school if she was left to her own devices so I'm assuming you had some hand in the matter. Any particular reason why you want the girl to go to school? Does it have something to do with her Chronomancy?"
It wasn't everyday you met a daemon that tried to involve their host in something positive. Something like attending school, especially one like the Academy, would only put them at risk of having their contract loopholed after all. There simply was no point in encouraging such activities for a daemon unless they had some kind of ulterior motive in mind. So Levi was curious what exactly her kin was up to and wondered if it was possible that Capone was a daemon like her, a daemon that had become emotionally attached to their host. It was definitely not something she would admit to one of her kind unless she was absolutely certain they shared a similar sentiment. So for now she'd just have to test the waters.
Cluck Norris, huh? Interesting. I bet on the other one. I think they called him Cluckie Chan. It seems for this match at least we are on opposite sides so do you want to make it more interesting? How about we make a bet? The winner gets the loser's contract for their ho....."
Before Leviathan even had a chance to finish her sentence her right hand clenched into a fist and swung into her nose at high velocity. To the outside viewer it would've looked like the girl had just decked herself in the face and sent herself sprawling on to her back. Anger flashed in the girl's eyes as she held her hands over her injured nose as water began to build up in her eyes. It would be quite clear from the look on her face that she definitely hadn't intended to hit herself. As she began to yell a small trickle of blood began to run from her nose.
"I was joking! Why can't you take a joke?! Ow! You realize you hurt yourself as well, right?! I'm sorry about that Capone. I hope your host isn't nearly as moody as this brat!"

Capone watched with surprise as the daemon decked themselves, and snorted in amusement in hearing that their host was the one that had done it.
“She need not have worried in the first place… I’d have turned it down anyhow. Indiscriminate consumption of souls is a good way to end up as an amalgol. We’re Daemons, not demons.”
An amalgol was the turn used for when a daemon had reached a level of instability which they lost all semblance of mind. At which point, their inevitable “death” was soon to follow. Death in this case would mean the breaking apart of the entity into smaller souls, which were cycled back into the world.
She didn’t know enough about that host to know whether or not she’d be a good match for who Capone was at the moment. One soul probably wouldn’t do a great deal of harm, but it was better to be safe than sorry. “As for my host… I really wish she were more of a brat. It’d at least be better than the doormat she is. I got her to go to school because I was sick of her thinking that she’s cursed. Rather than the truth of she just sucks in controlling her natural magic.”
