welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

She was assigned a quest already within days of enrolling in Eldritch Academy, that place didn't seem to waste time even with students who could possibly become more danger than what they were guarding against. Why would they send someone who was supposed to avoid conflict to a body guarding gig? Nyx already disliked this job and it wasn't just because she could hear the high society sorts whispering about how it was a bad idea to send something so violent into this event, cause they were right about that. "Where is my partner?" she was not exactly able to hang close to the dudes daughter for the night! If she was too close to the kid, everyone would be too busy watching her and not busy enough watching for actual danger. Not that her kind weren't dangerous, but she wasn't, she'd never even really lost her temper much less gone off the rails ever before. She was a model blood devil citizen! At least she hoped.

The Vamp Wolf | This was already sounding like a potentially boring night. Well, Sharaku supposed that at the very least, the people there would be somewhat interesting as it was a high society place, but it was also quite unlikely that standing around being a bodyguard would be an exciting way to spend time. Chances were they wouldn't get to do anything besides existing there as they'd be just extra, and that was simply boring. Then again...he could think of way more boring things still, so perhaps this was fine.
That said, apparently he was not going alone, but it'd be a lie if he said he cared to check on who his partner was ahead of time. As long as they didn't make things harder on the job, he generally couldn't care less as to who or what they were. There were all kinds of weird people and species hanging around, so wishing you could avoid some was a pointless train of thought in his mind. Making his way over, the tall young man would glance up and down over the girl. "Hey...I suppose that'd be me.", he'd offer her a somewhat sheepish smile and a wave of his hand, before glancing around to check what the situation was at the moment. |

Ever since she had transferred to Eldritch Academy a few days before? Anything she partook in seemed dull and uninteresting at best to dangerous at its worst. Askel insisted she was being placed in higher society, a better train, but she just couldn't believe that, it was never better to take a Blood Devil away from where they were trusted to somewhere that so many doubted them, just like this. Even this body guarding gig felt like watching paint dry for her. Of course, feeling like she was doing nothing was most of her life. At least she knew there would be no surprises in store for her, ever. No one would actually send a 'thing' like her on a mission where real combat could occur, after-all she had been trained to not get involved instead of being taught to calm herself.
"I suppose you're not horribly late." she would have been cross if she had to wait longer, but he didn't make her wait long as he could have, and that was what she had to think about, lest she consider taking some of his blood as consolation for being late. "If you need to shout for me at any point during the night, My name is Nyx." it was best he knew how to call for her if he needed her help to say get the little brat out of danger. "Askel forbade me from fighting but I'm strong enough to fly the target to safety should an assault occur." her wings fluttered slightly, a few people nearby flinching and focusing their eyes directly onto her. Nothing she wasn't adjusted to. "Lastly, don't ask me why the school sent me when I'm not allowed to fight, I have no clue." straight to the point she explained her side of things, letting him know that all he could rely on her for was flying the brat away should anything go wrong. "She's over by the snack bar if you want to hover." her wing slightly opened to point in the direction of the snack bar as she stood with arms crossed, glancing once more around the room.

The Vamp Wolf | He’d scratch the back of his head slightly. “I do try to keep track of time.” Kind of. It was just a bit of a pain to navigate this place as he wasn’t really familiar with it. High society functions were normally not on his radar. Too fancy and boring for him. Who wants to watch people be posh? At any rate, he would offer the small girl a contemplative glance as she said her piece. Well, he would sort of like to know what was the point of sending a bodyguard who was forbidden to fight. What if something actually happened, and combat became necessary? Not that he believed someone would be reckless enough to make an attempt for real, but the possibility was always there even if it was a small one. Weird. “Right….well, you can call me Sharaku. Though…if you’re not supposed to fight, isn’t it counterproductive to attend the academy?” Sure, not everything revolved around some sort of fighting, but a lot of students did focus on such a path, and it would be tough to avoid situations of that type entirely. Even more so on jobs like these, where anything could go to hell at the worst possible moment…
That said, he did note the people that turned their attention on them, casting a brief half-glare in their direction in return. People like that annoyed him, honestly. In technicality, anyone could turn out to be a problem, so what was the point of being judgmental without knowing someone again? He was never the one to understand that kind of logic. “Eh…I think I’ll keep some distance for the moment. Stalking someone too closely gets awkward.”, he’d shrug lightly. As long as it wasn’t too far for comfort, he didn’t feel the need to rush over. Not right away at least. This was going to be a long night either way. |

He at least seemed to be fairly good natured, just laxly scratching the back of his head in response to her comment on how he had arrived later than she believed he would. She knew some people who would over respond to such thing, which was just a pain for her! Unable to retaliate she just had to sit through people's fits until they were done or she could otherwise escape.
"One would think so, heck I think so." Nyx really did not understand why she had been transferred expect for the greater security accessible on the on the Eldritch Campus but the fact they sent her out on this disproved that. Perhaps someone was trying to lure her into a false sense of freedom to see if she'd break from her conditioning. That was never going to happen. "But for some reason or another unknown to me, I was transferred to the academy." she really wished that there was some resemblance of sense to actions, but she couldn't make any sense out of anything going on involving her entrance into the academy or anything that followed. "I honestly think that it's some sort of test." not that it made sense to put others at risk by testing her in this way. "Like someone conditioning a rabbit not to eat a carrot and than putting a carrot next to it and going just out of sight to see if the rabbit will eat the carrot or not." she liked rabbits, they were cuddly and she'd been allowed to own a few growing up, though Askel got rid of them every time she got upset until she'd spent half the year with no sign of anger or upset of any kind.
As he commented about stalking to close being awkward she shrugged her shoulders slightly but nodded in agreement.
Time passed by slowly until eventually it was time for all of the dancing of the night, making it difficult to see anywhere in the room if one was not on the dance floor. "I suppose you still don't want to get too close?" she extended her hand in offer to see if he wanted to dance with her instead of their target to keep eyes on the other girl. "Promise I won't have to stand on your feet, though I can't promise not to step on them here and there, I only learned until someone realized dance competitions existed, so I haven't danced in years." the small girl would take a single step forward to be in front of him, waiting for his response.

The Vamp Wolf | It was more in his nature to just not really care unless he seriously needed to, in all honesty. If he knew he wasn’t greatly inconveniencing somebody, then he sure wasn’t going to make a huge deal out of it, assuming the person didn’t do so themselves.
Nevertheless, his expression would turn into a somewhat unimpressed one as she spoke about rabbits and conditioning. “….people are far too strange. Everyone goes on about accepting all kinds of beings and peace and all that, but then they clearly go out of their way to do the exact opposite. Why would you make rabbits not eat carrots, if that’s what their natural diet is made of? It’s like trying to make a dog eat vegetables because you’re afraid it’ll bite you too due to the fact that you’re made of meat.” Would that be a pain? Certainly, but it isn’t possible to always dictate nature on how to flow simply because you weren’t content with the status quo you were given. Some things were changeable, and some were simply better left alone. Honestly…it was a wonder a lot of society hasn’t crumbled just yet, with so many people making decisions simply out of fear…
Theoretical debates aside though, the tall young man would frown towards the dance floor slightly when everyone decided to flock there. “I would prefer not to, but I suppose my options are kind of limited here.”, he’d state a bit gruffly. Sure, he knew how to do some basic ballroom dancing and the like, but it was hardly a favorite activity of his. Especially doing it while smooshed in a big mass of people. Not the most fun in his opinion. Taking a breath, he’d snort as he took her hand, trying to not make it too awkward with their height differences. “I think I’d be more worried about back pain from constantly needing to lean down in some way….” Well, he was mostly joking there, though it couldn’t be denied that he did face a bit of a dilemma when it came to that. While he was used to the majority of people being shorter than him, it was rare for it to be such an extreme difference, and it naturally made a lot of interactions harder to execute. How do you dance properly with someone who’s almost just half of you?

They tried everything that was possible under the sun to teach her to simply not care, but it had just never been possible. If she had been able to be conditioned into a shell? Than maybe Askel wouldn't have dropped her with the Academy, of course she didn't see any reason for him to abandon her regardless as she had excellent control for what she was. Clearly, this male had a dislike for the conditioning used on her kind to ensure they did not become dangerous to those around them, and having been conditioned from her first memory, she just could not understand why. "It's not pleasant, but I can understand why they do it to my kind." briefly her tail lifted to her lips, the young girl sucking something from it and seeming to calm further than she already was. Nyx had a harder time when surrounded by so many people, particularly politicians who were often knowingly corrupt. Even though she had only fed from a handful of people being instructed to always use blood packets, she hard a time resisting the urge to bite people who for one reason or another had a reason to feel guilty. Nyx didn't understand it and she was conditioned to not even try deciphering why she wanted to bite everyone here so badly. "If the dog bites, it's victim is more than likely going to live. Meanwhile from what I hear my kind get conditioning because if we go off that same way, it's more than likely we cause several dozen causalities at least. I wouldn't know myself, I'm adopted so I've never met another one of my kind and my father conditioned me from birth." she shrugged, clearly not as bothered about it as he was, for Nyx it was just the way life was, even if it was annoying as hell they would test her when she was doing so well.
Apparently he didn't like the dance floor either. Sharaku just didn't seem to like anything did he? Oh well, it wasn't exactly as if she liked being here either so she didn't have any room to comment. "Oh come on, I'm not that short." The fact Askel still had her sitting in a booster seat meant nothing, absolutely nothing, she was perfectly sized, even if she had to look up at everyone since elementary ended, and some people even before that. "If you absolutely need, I can fly while we dance or you can just hold my wings instead of anything else." at this mention she folded her wings inward so that the tips of them came a good two feet above her own head. While he made his choice she'd walk backwards with his hand in hers towards the dance floor. If he needed her to fly? She was sure the bigoted dancers around them would give her the space, for fear her wings could somehow damage them.

The Vamp Wolf | He’d shrug weakly. “I’m simply not a fan of manipulation.” And in a way, that’s what conditioning usually was. To get someone to behave the way you want them to, while they probably don’t even realize there is anything wrong with that. Yes, he could understand it being technically safer for other people, but honestly? Anyone could snap and go on a murder spree, regardless of their species, and people died in so many other ways as well. War, combat against monsters, so on and so forth. Focusing hard on subduing one race wasn’t going to make the death counts that much smaller, in his opinion at least. “Perhaps…but lots of species have the ability to easily kill that many on a whim. Hell, lots of people develop talents that can do that too. I won’t say it doesn’t prevent deaths in any way, but in this day and age, anyone could suddenly turn into a mass murderer, so I find it kind of oppressing to push down hard on one species, like they’re the worst when there's clearly potential killers anywhere you look.” If people cared so much about saving lives, then every person with abilities that could easily kill should just be monitored 24/7 then. No? Eh. Well, he wasn’t necessarily bothered in the sense that it made him seriously mad or anything, but he would go out of his way to give his opinion on the matter when it came up. Did he like anything? Well, not many things, no, albeit he’d say it was simply that he was far too easily bored by stuff. Many things seemed repetitive, and not really all that entertaining when one actually gave some extra thought to it. He’d give the smaller girl a brief amused look. “Maybe not. I’m certainly too tall for life though.” Not the worst, but enough for it to often be cause for pain. “It’s fine. I was mostly joking. I can make do, it’s not like it’s the worst thing to happen in my life.” A little uncomfortable maybe, but that was hardly a cause for concern for him in the long-term. He sure wasn’t going to die from that…not even if he wished to. Weird thoughts in mind aside, he’d follow her lead, taking the few moments to attempt squinting above the heads of the people on the dance floor to make sure everything was going well. It ought to be as there’d likely be chaos in case of any attempted attack, but it was never a bad idea to keep at least some watch. “Anyway….what are we dancing…?” |

578 words 2025 twc He was giving up any debate on the subject but likely not his views. Honestly, what confused her the most was people who assumed her kind could just live without the conditioning so close to all the species with hot blood running beneath their veins. Not that she had anything against cold blood, it had its own appeals considering all the blood she got was cold by the time she drank it. Manipulation was something she typically couldn't get behind, but she'd read text books and was well aware her kind lived as a mass army when they were not conditioned citizens. An army that did not fight for resources, pride or anything expect the thrill of shedding blood even if their own was shed? Was incredibly dangerous in her opinion, which meant any Blood Devil not conditioned was dangerous. Honestly from the outside it was such a pity she had been conditioned so heavily she had a slight distain towards her own species.
"I think most people view it as a theory, both a fork and a sword can be used to kill someone, but the sword is a much more likely murder weapon because it's made for it." enjoying a conversation was a nice thing, since few people would hold such a long discussion which someone they knew was thinking about what their blood would look like outside of their body. Of course, maybe he didn't know she was thinking about how great it would be to bite into his neck and watch it stream down his throat with the aid of her venom. When he looked amused, she easily returned the expression though a much duller more muted version of it.
Listening to him she provided a small smirk returning her wings to their normal position folded as much against her back as they could be with her small size. "I believe this is a foxtrot song." she had taken formal lessons briefly as an effort to get her interested in any hobby outside of things related to combat. However, in the end most hobbies had been deemed too competitive for her to partake in, too risky that she would grow a taste for winning. "Luckily this is one of the simplest ones." she laughed slightly, her right foot sliding back slowly, her left foot sliding back exceeding it before moving her right foot to the and quickly than placing her left foot against it. As the band played she kept her eyes trained to the room behind him, dancing offering a nice opportunity that allowed them to each take half the room at any given time, increasing their surveillance ability.
Abruptly during the dance she took the in charge step, using her greater strength to make sure he turned so he was looking at the side of the room she had been scanning seconds ago. "Back corner, by the punch bowel." she whispered with her small body pressed close to him as she could with their height difference, so she wouldn't alarm anyone with her speech. "White Suite, back pocket, Is that a gun?" she only knew what tranquilizer guns looked like since she was sometimes shadowed by someone authorized to fire shots at her if necessary, but the flash she had caught of what was in that pocket looked a lot like the concealed tranq's she'd seen in the past, just there was no visible dart loaded instead it was a smooth side.

The Vamp Wolf | “Perhaps…but a sword will always remain a sword in the end, unless simply destroyed.” It didn’t change anything if you took a bomb and temporarily kept dressing it as a toy. All it did was delay things and keep you in constant fear of when it all might fall apart. That’s not a real solution. He’d roll his eyes a little. “You can’t take away someone’s true nature. Suppress it for as long as you keep a constant watch over them, sure, but that will never change who they are deep down. Not unless they themselves make the choice to behave, but that’s not what conditioning is really about. Frankly, I’d see more merit in a diplomatic approach and maybe getting a problematic species to personally agree to keep in line for everyone’s benefit. A compromise or whatever. Those who are just puppeteered to act good, might be even worse if they happen to get out of control and realize what they could have had otherwise.” In his opinion, it was a good way to create resentment and even more out of line behavior once something went wrong and the conditioning broke apart. Telling someone not to do something doesn’t make them suddenly not feel any need for it after all.
Eh? “Foxtrot…I very much prefer waltz, but I suppose this will have to do.” Luckily for him, he knew how to do it as long as it didn’t get too crazy, so he couldn’t complain all that much in the end. Of course, he probably still would, as it was a good way of distracting himself from what would otherwise be a bunch of boredom, but that wasn’t the point there. “Good, because I’d rather not have to deal with people tripping over themselves and creating a dance floor apocalypse.” Complex dances weren’t suited for events like this, really. That said, he’d follow the steps, almost mechanically without giving it too much conscious thought. Watching around was actually a bit more interesting than the dancing itself, especially with how awkward it was due to the size differences.
Barely managing not to stumble as she suddenly broke the pace, as he had been focusing his attention elsewhere at that moment, he’d stare down at her with a questioning look before glancing towards the person she was mentioning, only to frown, his brows furrowing slightly. Honestly, Sharaku was no gun expert. While he had seen a few guns before, it has never been something he worked with more closely, due to there being no real reason for it. “I’m…not sure, but it is a possibility.” It was really hard to tell. A smart person could even make sure to conceal a gun by making it look like something else. It was never a bad idea to be cautious though. “Suppose we get closer to keep an eye?” It wouldn’t do well to cause a ruckus in case it wasn’t an issue, but assuming it was, as long as they kept close, it’d be easier to act at any moment. He’d rather avoid a big fight as that could get plenty people injured at a place like this, so a more covert approach sounded like a better start. Well, theoretically at least. |

176 words 2201 twc She flinched at his comment, a sword could be made into something else, it had to be able to become more. If things were really like that? She would have to go into the military, she'd have to let down Askel and anyone else who was fond of the fact she'd never been violent because her species was a sword. "You have to be wrong." After-all, if his speech was right, she was just a time bomb waiting to go off. Nyx wanted to be able to have a life, everything she heard told her that what her kind instinctively drew towards was not life but destruction. At least it was what he led her to believe, and she had no reason to doubt her father.
After everything, she listened for his response and nodded slightly as he talked about getting closer to be more sure of things before considering anything. With that decision made she would let him set the tempo of the dance to get them closer, since a girl leading would look suspicious.

The Vamp Wolf | Did he? His response was a nonchalant one. “Well, as far as I’m aware, one cannot become what they are not outside of special means. We can act and ignore but that’s all it is. Besides, is it wrong to accept yourself? I think one can still be a good person, without needing to entirely go against themselves. We all exist for a reason anyway. Though I suppose figuring out what’s wrong and what’s right is on you in the end.” Not that he knew everything, but this girl sounded as if she had an issue with what she was, and would rather not even be her own species. The thought was kind of sad? You can make progress while being okay with what you are too, no? It might be a pain in the ass sometimes, but you are what you are, and you just have to work with what you’ve got. A sword might be reconstructed into something else, as it is simply an item, but a living being doesn’t have that luxury. What’s a life of constantly denying your own origin? Would she really be happy years in the future, never being allowed to do a multitude of things others around might be partaking in simply because they were labeled as risky behavior? Well, he would personally grow tired of being boxed in like that quite fast.
Regardless, they had a potential suspect at hand now, which sure made things a little bit trickier. Getting closer would prove to be a bit more effort than perhaps expected, as they couldn’t push through people too aggressively lest they’d look weirdly suspicious themselves. Nevertheless, it was only a matter of time until they’d manage. The man in question didn’t appear to be making any dangerous moves for the time being, although from a closer view, he certainly appeared to be on higher alert than what would be expected of just a guest enjoying their evening, and he was glancing around a whole lot more as well. If nothing else, he definitely came off as suspicious with his current behavior, but was that enough for them to take any sort of action? “Say…do you think it’d be better to approach straight up, or should we wait and only engage if he tries something…?” Frankly, he wasn’t sure what would be the less troublesome approach, and besides, it’d be better if they were on the same page with this.

He was so nonchalant as if it didn't matter if a monster ran lose in society or not! Oh he was infuriating her pupils dilating in her slight rising temper, wings going rigid. If he was paying attention? A man in the corner of the room drew a gun with a dart loaded into it, keeping it trained on her until the girls wings settled back to a normal placement. "For me yes it is. If I accepted myself, the things I'm conditioned to forget or deny?" her mouth opened a slight hiss coming from her throat as her tongue flicked against her top fangs before she regained composure again. Why was she continuing this conversation? He was an idiot! "My fangs would be in your neck." especially dancing with him her own blood was pumping faster than normal, only amplifying the images of how fast his had to be flowing beneath his skin. Would it be thin or thick if she bit into him? "Even talking now, I'm wondering how thick that skin of yours is." her hands would tighten as she fought to keep her claws off him, biting into her own lip hard enough to taste her own blood. Better yet, what would he looked like without all that skin on top of his blood!
"We should at least check it out closer." maybe getting off the dance floor would help with the urge to bite into him, or generally anyone she could get access to bare skin on. Of course, a Blood Devil didn't need bare skin, considering they could throw a car they could sure as hell bite through some clothing, of course she didn't know just how strong she was, yet.

The Vamp Wolf | Maybe it did matter, but there would always be some monsters popping up, and he wasn’t the type who’d think that everyone could, or even should be saved. When animals tore each other apart for food, everyone would just call it the circle of nature, but then they had their panties in a twist when more sentient beings were involved…probably just because most people were scared of dying themselves. That was always the main motive. Anyway, it wasn’t like he really cared about convincing her. He just liked to debate, and maybe he was a little bit reckless as well. Most things in life were quite dull in his opinion, but high-adrenaline situations made it less so. Was it bad that he kind of enjoyed putting himself on the edge? Maybe so, but he wasn’t greatly concerned about it. He’d offer her a cheesy grin, showing off his own fangs slightly. “Both of us could play that game, you know? Honestly though, you make me wonder how long will you last doing this with such a fiery temper. Sure didn’t take long to set you off, and I wasn’t even really trying. How much fun are you really having living like this?” Playing with fire aside, he was genuinely curious. If what she was saying was true, and she kept imagining things like that, was she truly content with going day after day with those feelings and constantly exerting energy on pushing it down? It was strange…was she just taught that being a pacifist was the right thing to do, or what was it that drove her to get so mad about the idea of people potentially dying by her hands even though it would mean getting what her body wanted? “Right…though I wouldn’t want to be noticed too much either. This is such a pain in the ass…” How do you do this with so many people around unless you want to cause casualties? Getting too close could make a culprit notice them instead and that wouldn’t be helpful, while staying away wasn’t either. Or maybe… “Well, guess there’s no better choice than that…” Them sneaking around would be suspicious, but this was a social function, right? So it wouldn’t be wrong to try to chat with someone to pass the time. Couldn’t condemn anyone for that. Displeased by the idea as he was, the tall young man would nevertheless opt to simply casually walk up to the man, offering a friendly greeting to try and engage in conversation and keep him occupied. Whether Nyx joined up with him or chose to observe for clues from slight distance was on her for the moment, but hopefully she’d make a good decision there…well, whatever it was. |

He was simply incredibly annoying, and she was starting to suspect he was now trying to do it on purpose, which was incredibly unwise but she didn't exactly consider the entire world wise anyway. Yet, she did get a laugh out of his display of his own fangs. "Oh I'm not set off yet, when I'm near that I catch on fire." which was why her handler always waited to dart her, because the burly man knew that fact, so he didn't have to dart her unless she was both on fire and behaving aggressively, at least not in current experience. "I'm perfectly happy like this! You can't be discontent when you don't have a frame of reference anyway." she had never killed anyone or such nonsense, so she clearly couldn't miss it, at least that was how she convinced herself the numbness in her life was not related to following the rules.
Nyx followed shortly behind him, not engaging directly yet, allowing him to set the stage as her being the first to speak could frighten the man possibly holding a gun in his back pocket. However, she did notice something as she stood behind Sharaku, this man was one of those people she wanted to bite most, tongue flicking against her fangs briefly as she brought her tail to her mouth to keep from giving in.
