Bat out of Hell (open)

Ozaki flinched in surprise in hearing another voice talking to him, but quickly enough realized it was a girl’s voice. Nothing to worry about. It was fine. He looked down to see that it was Nyx of all students out here. “Had a close call with a vampire hunter… I’d be careful wandering these streets alone if I were you. Its not safe.” His father was a vampire hunter, but if he found another demon out feeding he would not discriminate.

He shook his head at her offer of blood. A twinge of amusement lifted the corners of his mouth for a milisecond at the thought of someone offering him blood. Under his trench coat he had a line of syringes and blood packs freshly filled from tonight’s hunt. He’d show them to her, but had to be honest there. Ozaki couldn’t quite be sure of her self control when it came to blood packets.

Against other living entities? She could restrain herself. But he needed these ones for the students. Not just all for one blood devil. Though she was indeed part of the reason he was hunting tonight. A small part, but still a part.

Matter of fact he was a bit hungry, and would probably definitely need something after that runabout. But considering who it had been, he’d rather lost his appetite. “I’m good on the blood front.” He ultimately decided to answer. “I’m flattered you asked though.”

Considering the appetite of a blood devil, her merely offering was something to behold. Something to be praised.

“Because... Some people aren't very nice.” Ozaki said, putting a hand on her head and ruffling the hair between her horns. He momentarily wondered if the blood within her was actually stored in a way that would ensure that the blood would not rot. He’d have to do a bit of extra research on Blood devils later. Or ask her directly later. But not now.

Even the mention of a tranquilizer gun set his teeth on edge, causing his eyes to dart around furtively. He momentarily debated whether she would be safer with him walking her home or just going her own way. If his father had even done half his due diligence on research, he’d probably try to kill Nyx within seconds of seeing her. Blood devils were by far more voracious eaters than vampires ever could be.

“Sounds like you had some good friends…” Ozaki glanced behind himself. They couldn’t stay here for much longer. His trick had thrown his father off his trail for now, but that wasn’t guaranteed to stay that way.

He bit his lip, careful not to allow his sharp canines to bite through his lip. His nerves started to build up as he internally debated and his mouth slipped into his normal cadence of speech when nerves started to afflict him. “Um… Aah… I don’t want to sound inappropriate or anything. But um… Maybe I should ah… W-Walk you home? I don’t mean anything untowards. Its just that I don’t want you to run into my- That Vampire hunter. And I’m pretty sure I know which way he went. I mean if he didn’t just turn around already and is on my tail right now. Maybe it isn’t a good idea. He knows I’m here but not you and if I go with you you might get hurt and it’d be my fault-“ The vampire was showing no sign of stopping his anxiety induced rambling, even as his feet started moving past her, letting go of her head as he set a fast pace.

Ozaki turned around in hearing she didn’t know where her home was, holding out his hand. His pupils went to pin pricks as he spotted a silhouette in the distance from were he’d come from. “Guess I have no choice then.” He didn’t sound begrudging about this, more strained than anything. If she were able to smell fear, it’d be coming off him in droves now. “You know your a-address at least?” It felt weird to be asking a student for their address, and he hoped that they wouldn’t take it the wrong way.

They needed to go go go. Worst came to worst he could ask for some directions on the way, but they couldn’t stay here. He felt bad for ignoring literally everything she said, but there was no time for that right now.

He wasn’t quite sure where that was. But once they got somewhere a little more public with the nighttime crowd he was sure he could find someone who was. His inner thoughts twinged a bit at hearing her father hadn’t picked her up. He was no stranger to dead beat dads, but it’d be wrong of him to assume that without any more information.

Ozaki allowed his bat wings to form, the wings easily slipping into the slits cut into the trench coat for just such a thing. A flicker of light was shining from the man in the distance now, much closer than he had been before. “Sorry kid.” He said before grabbing for her and taking off with a flying leap, moments before a Phoenix Fire arrow struck where they had been seconds before.

It shone with light to rival the sun itself. Blisters erupted across Ozaki’s skin and wings as he flung himself farther up into the darkness, desperate to get away from the light.

Older? Yes. However size wise he wasn’t that much bigger than her, being stuck in a teenager’s body as he was. However his vampiric strength was more than enough to counter that fact. “Phoenix fire arrow.” He grunted through his teeth, loosing his grasp once they had gotten high enough at her offer of flying herself. Odds are she was safer if she wasn’t right next to him too. If his father didn’t just start firing arrows like a ma-

Of course he fucking would do that.

“GET BACK HERE VAMPIRE SCUM!” Shouted the man from below, notching an arrow and firing it straight up into the air.

Didn’t he realize that arrows that were fired straight up would just come right back down? Nonetheless, Ozaki started fleeing. Even if the arrow didn’t hit him, the light would be enough to hurt him. There was no way he could fire an arrow up this high though. It was too late before he realized that is wasn’t an arrow. It was a flare. That… That was new.

The night lit up like the day. The last thing he did before his wings were singed off his very back was attempt to throw Nyx as far as he could. “Get out of here!”

Then he plummeted like a rock. 

Upon hitting the ground Ozaki lost everything he had hunted for that night. So much blood lost. Were it not for the Phoenix fire flare he wouldn’t be bleeding at at all right now. But currently his skin was blistered and bleeding. Ash was interspersed within the wounds.

He’d need to drink a lot to heal all these wounds. His body new this before his mind even realized that he was licking the blood off the ground. He stopped immediately, red faced in shame as he tried to drag his hand to under his trench coat. No… Nothing was left. No darts. No syringes. Nothing. The glass was shattered and partially embedded into his weakened skin. He was so hungry. So very hungry. But he had to do something to protect the student. Anything.

The vampire hunter had just been about to end the creature’s life when this one appeared out of no where. It did not appear to be a normal vampire. The phoenix fire weapons had not so much as worked on her. She wasn’t his target. But she was in his way.

This close up the blood devil could see the Vampire Hunter clear for the first time. He was around his mid fifties, stubby chinned, and insanely buff. You’d think that given his humanity and age he’d be fragile, but the way he looked it was pretty clear this was a man who never skipped leg day. A man who knew the forces he faced would naturally be stronger than him, and thus he had to work much harder to span that difference. The bow was still clenched in his hands, a quiver of assorted arrows on his back. And around his belt were a various assortment of small satchels that could carry anything.

He was currently wearing a pair of night googles, allowing no escape into the darkness for his prey of course. His outfit was black and made of a thick leather. In particular he had a thick neck brace. It did impair mobility somewhat for looking around, but vampires did often go for the jugular. So it was an obvious safety precaution. “If I don’t have to hurt you I won’t. You’re not my target… But if you remain here I will. Look at that thing. It can’t even control its blood lust now.”

Ozaki had returned to licking the blood off the ground, his ravenous instincts taking hold of him.
