welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Nyx didn't understand why any of this was happening and it was actually slowly starting to bother her. Only a few days ago she had been a normal student in a completely normal school that barely even mentioned talents or great futures. Almost overnight? She had ended up in this cluster of situations she had been told to avoid, directed by some unseen hand to observe things she had been told to flee from, lest she lose her mind. Nyx knew she was a good girl! Regardless of how hard it was, she had avoided even doing things like winning a game of connect four because she wanted to make Askel proud, show she'd be able to live in society as a normal citizen instead of as part of the military or such as others of her kind did. The girls dreams contained eventually working in some office, in the middle of the city, marrying someone outside of her own kind and having hybrid children who wouldn't need to be conditioned like she had, to make her adoptive father proud. Yet, where was he, the man left her with the academy that seemed dead set on testing her in everyway it could to prove she couldn't resist forever. This was just another in a long line of events she called tests.
Even for a split second, she never considered that this was actually for the best. Nyx had no idea how much she would actually enjoy violence if she actually partook in it. Nor did she ever consider that perhaps she was not entirely banned from fighting anymore if she could control herself, Askel was no longer making the rules she was a ward of the academy.
"So what are they having me watch you do anyway? I was only told to come with." she looked at the back of the man she followed, her tail swaying lightly from side to side as she waited for his response. Nyx prayed this was some peaceful mission, but they had already sent her to body guard, if it was peaceful they would have sent her instead of telling her she was to observe someone else.

The last people he expected to come to him for assistance for anything after his little opening into the school, was the faculty. And yet, they made a request for him. They needed him to participate in an extermination quest. Oras, of course, was overjoyed when he had heard this. Inglisse said she was going to pass on this one, wanting some more time to continue her research. Oras had poked her, saying she needed to take a break from books and just get out there once in a while, but didn't push too much. He was enjoying this too much to pester people for too long. So here he was. Walking through the forest towards his destination with his sword on his side. Cooling the air around him. His enjoyment was evident as he laid a blanket of frost on the trees and grass around them as they walked, spreading diamonds and lights across the area.
The only downfall to this, was that they sent someone to 'observe' him. It was annoying that he had to escort someone, whom they said was not allowed to engage in combat under any circumstances.. But if it meant getting some action he didn't care. The girl looked like she belonged in elementary school, but for all he knew she could be older. She could be a species other than human, or she could have a talent that made her a prodigy. That would be a nice change of pace. Have someone intelligent he could talk to for once. And no, he did not count faculty as intelligent. He hadn't seen the proof just yet.
When she asked him what he was doing he only mentally marked this as another reason faculty was nothing but a collection of morons. "Well it's your fault for not insisting for more information prior to leaving. I'm doing this cause I want to, not cause I have to. They only have as much control as you allow them, and as I found my first trip to this world: Only follow the rules that have logic behind them. If the rules don't benefit or protect you, and only hinder you while benefitting the rule makers, then it's not worth it... I swear, this time period has grown lax." He drew his sword and swung it around a few times to get back into the feeling. "Allegedly, there's a demon of desire hiding out in a cave in this forest. We're to find it, and kill it. A simple task really, they aren't very good fighters. It's a matter of willpower and logic than strength or magic. In other words? This is a cakewalk. An appetizer. Something to get people's feet wet. My guess is they're having you observe me so they can learn more about me. Faculty and I don't really get along so that makes the most sense without more context."

For a brief moment she felt empty. The man she was watching? Seemed to be enjoying the idea of this quest even though he didn't show much of it. While she felt nothing walking towards this quest. Yet, from everything she knew of her kind she should be ecstatic to the point of salivating right now! Briefly the Blood Devil pondered if maybe something was actually wrong with her, if that emptiness inside of her was real. However, any ideals of being incomplete was chased away when she reminded herself that feeling nothing towards this impending violence was a step closer to feeling disgust towards it. While her kind had been conditioned to listen or avoid before? No one had ever been conditioned to straight up despise what they were supposed to love! Maybe she could be the first. The girls chest hurt at that idea, but she couldn't comprehend why.
Quickly he started providing her with the answers she needed, which was pleasant considering no one would truly tell her what she wanted to know these days. "If a rule benefits someone else?" she sounded like she was questioning very well knowing every single rule she was under benefited everyone around her, in the sense of she wouldn't bite anyone nor would she end up killing anyone. How did the rule protect or benefit her? She supposed it kept her from getting tranquilized or shot, but she didn't know if that counted under the sort of thing he was talking about. "I suppose the rules do protect me, as my alternative is getting tranquilized or shot." but for once she wasn't sure. People had questioned the morality of conditioning her so heavily before, sure, for heavens sake she wasn't even allowed to win at anything or exceed in grades. However, this was the first time someone had mentioned anything the way he was. "Heck, they probably gave you the gun and a surplus of the darts, so it's most beneficial for me to behave as best as possible. Or do you see this differently?" she was curious how he saw it, as she had encountered several odd perceptions on herself since coming to the academy.
Blue optics followed the swing of his sword, nostalgic feeling as if she'd seen someone swing around a weapon before, which was impossible as she'd always been forbade from seeing fighting. It likely resembled the handling of a knife she'd seen in a cooking show. "You're right, that does make a good deal of sense. Though for context encase they failed to inform you, I'm a Blood Devil, so they could just as likely be trying to see if I break and behave violently under this quest. Someone could be watching both of us. It's weird, ever since I was enrolled they've kept on sending me to watch situations I was always taught to flee from to avoid temptation. Almost like they have no common sense." she shrugged slightly talking a few more steps so she wasn't lagging so far behind, having stuck back until she wanted to speak with him to understand this better.

Oras could hear the questioning behind her words as she repeated what he said about rules that benefit others. He turned to look at her and wondered what her life was like. Was she overly oppressed by rules? "Yeah. Here let me provide an example. Let's say there was a tower, and the rumor was that it's very dangerous. A parent may tell the children never to go near it, because they could be harmed or killed. This is a beneficial rule, as it protects the children from something beyond their ability to stop, control or understand. Now imagine the tower didn't have anything dangerous, and in fact had an artifact that provided potentially limitless power. If someone made a rule never to go into the tower, it could very easily be because they want the power for themselves, or at least don't want others having it. We live in a morally gray world, so we have to learn to discern the difference... Well at least, you guys live in this world. I provide insight and knowledge for you people."
She began to continue, stating how she did suppose the rules set in place for her were for her own protection. And how the alternative was getting a tranquilizer shot. "Yeah, I had wondered about that," he said aloud. They gave him a tranquilizer and told him to use it on her if she attacked anyone or anything. Which Oras thought was utterly absurd and stupid. Whatever the reason for her not engaging in combat, she had to learn how to defend herself. In the end he lied to them, saying he'd do just that. Then when they were away from prying eyes, froze it solid and shattered it into dust. No way was he using a tranquilizer. She wasn't some animal, she was a sentient being. He'd just roll with it like he always did.
"Yeah they did. Could you clarify why they did?" She then began to give him a little bit of context as to why they were doing all this regarding her. She told him she was a blood devil. His eyebrow raised upon hearing this but there wasn't any reason not to believe her. Her tone, eyes and body language practically screamed truth the entire time she spoke after all. A blood devil huh? She mentioned how they were probably watching the two of them as they spoke, and as they walked. "You think so?" Oras asked and looked up into the sky, giving them a really rude gesture if they were in fact watching, and continued to walk beside her. When she mentioned how she wondered if they had any common sense at all he chuckled. "I'd have to say no in general. Most of faculty I feel are idiots playing teacher. This one time I challenged everyone to a duel. I was in the middle of one and got in trouble for it because I was 'disturbing the peace'. Idiots. I know the beings of this world first hand. This supposed peace won't last long. And when it breaks what will they do? Everyone needs to know how to defend themselves, so a spar shouldn't be against the rules. They keep trying to take my sword away too because I always carry it," he said as he spun it in a circle before sheathing it. "Retards.."

Did someone have to know what they were missing to be oppressed? There was no way for someone like her to know something like that, she just knew too little. Nyx only truly knew that she was a good girl who followed the rules that Askel had laid out for her and never broke them, expect for occasionally getting angry. "And I suppose if there was such an artifact there it could also still be dangerous, so it is both harmful and protective as a rule." maybe the rules laid out for her happened to be something like that? It actually made a bit of sense if that was the case. Sure, she'd always to deal with this emptiness when exposed to violence, feel unfulfilled when she saw what she was missing. Yet, she was protected from being attacked herself due to being unable or unwilling to stop herself. Morally gray was a great way to put it and she agreed whole heartedly with his point that maybe things could be more than black and white. "This world sucks." she scoffed the comment out between gritted teeth, unsure why she was suddenly upset about this when she had never felt that way about it before.
"I guess anyone who doesn't know I'm a Blood Devil would always wonder a lot about the rules regarding me." wanting to stretch her wings she extended them and started flying behind him a foot or two above the ground. Frowning when he revealed that they had provided him with the gun, she sighed slightly "You don't have to hide it than, I'm used to seeing it, I've had someone with that gun near me ever since I can remember." especially when young, her breed was notorious for loosing their cool and doing things like throwing all the cars on a city street into the buildings or favorably passerby if any came. Honestly, she didn't like the gun, it made her feel bad. "I've tried hard to be good, only ever thrown a few temper tantrums nothing worse than a normal child, but still no one cares about that, they just care that I'm a Blood Devil and I could kill them even this small." and she was indeed tiny, only three foot and five inches.
Laughter briefly broke out when she saw the gesture he made at the sky, as if there was something up there to tell to screw off. "Everyone has the right to defend themselves, huh? That's funny cause one the rules is that I'm not allowed to hit back even if someone hits me." Of course, that was likely because she was capable of lifting a car, so she could kill someone if she slapped them too hard. "I like seeing the sword." she seemed shocked at her own statement for a moment, before shrugging it off, the sword was just new. Right? "My only teacher experience so far is one who took a blood packet when she's not a blood drinker to see what it was like. I got the rest of it." That was something she still hated herself for, because she had lost it and taken the pack without hearing if the teacher said she could have it.

Upon hearing the girl ponder more about the matter of rules, and how the rule could be seen as both protective as well as harmful, Oras nodded. "Exactly. When facing those types of rules, the best way to handle them is by applying both logic and caution. Finding a way to remove corrupt individuals from the authority without ruining everything can be tricky, but that's part of the fun. In a case of higher ups using a false story or rule to keep everyone in line, my preferred method is by tricking them into accidentally exposing themselves. There was this one idiot who I convinced to share his plans with me. Little did he know my summoner and I rigged a trap which made his voice travel to the people. That was a fun year ha ha!" He chuckled a bit more, but when he heard her say how this world sucked he paused. Then he sighed and placed his hands behind his head, leaning against them.
"Eh, yes and no. Your world has it's perks and it's downfalls. There may be corrupt people in the world but that isn't what bothers me. Every world has it's darkness. My problem is when people become too lax and trusting, and end up believing anything people say. Every race needs to use that mind of theirs, not let others do the thinking for them. At that point you're nothing but a slave to someone else's whims. However: There's a difference between being manipulated, and being protected. That's where trust in friends and family comes in." When she mentioned how she could see and understand if people didn't understand her circumstances without knowing she was a blood devil he nodded wholeheartedly in agreement. People loved judging others to make themselves feel better. But if they didn't know the context, then their words had no strength to begin with. Only as much strength as you let them have. Hence the current issue he was dealing with in regards to Ryse.
When she mentioned how he didn't have to hide the tranquilizer he laughed. "Oh dearie, I'm not hiding anything~ That thing is long gone. Idiots think I need a tranquilizer. Paranoid, lazy, boring weaklings. See this is what I'm talking about: There are many enemies who can't be paralyzed or knocked out so easily. What are they going to do? Pat someone on the back and wish them away? This time period is way too weak and lax... Idiots." When she commented on how they only care that she's a blood devil and could kill them even at that size he sighed. "No offense to you or your kind, but if they actually taught people how to fight and prepared them for it instead of 'preparing them for peace', then they wouldn't have to be concerned about that." When she mentioned that she had a rule where she wasn't allowed to fight back even if she was hit herself he stopped in his tracks, turned around, and stared her in the eyes. "That is the most stupid rule I've ever heard in my entire life. Kid, how do you feel about some personal training? Nothing aggressive, just some self defense training? I'm not about to let someone die just because the higher ups are paranoid. Not on my watch."
Upon her comment on his sword he chuckled and drew the blade again. "Thanks. This was a gift from my first summoner. It may look like your average sword but, it really isn't. This is very specially designed, and has a few properties that only I and a few others know about. Everyone else who knew is dead and gone now. Time does that to people," he said before tossing the blade into the air, grabbing it by the blade and holding it out to her. "Here, take it for a spin. It's not fighting if there's no one to fight right?" he said with a grin.

He was quick to agree with most things uttered, contrary to the sort of person he had initially seemed to be, currently he was acting a lot like a good citizen. He said numerous things about corruption, but sometimes loved ones were the ones behind such rules! In her instance, her own father who was kind hearted enough to adopt something dangerous as herself, made the rules she followed without true questioning. Apparently, she was beginning good as well, because she was making him chuckle with their conversation which was something she didn't often encounter. Hard for someone to laugh worrying about the fact the person speaking to them was likely thinking about how their body would look dismembered. "Sharing secret plans with someone whom you didn't make them with seems to defeat the purpose of secret plans to begin with. Idiot." it was true, like trying to set up a surprise part but telling everyone at different times or with letters, eventually the subject was going to find out about their party because the secret had holes.
"It's a good theory, but again, from what I've been told if my kind uses our mind instead of our conditioning, we just end up traveling in small armies and wiping out everything we see for no good reason and it seems perfectly logical to us. I don't understand why, but apparently very few of my kind care about receiving fatal wounds, even if we know that winning is hopeless we'll just shed as much blood as we can until we die. So under conditioning we at least have longer lives I suppose." What no one had informed her of was that while yes her kind did often sustain fatal wounds on the battlefield and 'die' from those wounds, in a way they were much like phoenix's, rising from the blood when the fire died down to continue their quest. Nyx had been sheltered by Askel in every attempt to make sure she would not turn into a typical Blood Devil or worse come into her past self. "I really do wonder why the others care so little though, a life is a precious thing." she shrugged slightly her wings moving just enough to keep her moving forward and air borne.
Her eyes widened and she stopped cold her body hitting the ground as her wings stopped completely. Had she heard him right? The tranquilizer gun was not with them, it was also presumably destroyed by his hands. This boy seemed to like tempting fate, she could come up with any logical reason that someone would tell a Blood Devil that the main method of subduing them was not present, that there was no consequence but maybe a fight for breaking conditioning. No, there was no reason he be afraid of telling her that, she was a good girl, better than the others, never going to go off in the first place. "Sorry, its a bit stunning. I've never been out without someone holding it before." not that anyone had ever needed to use it on her, because she knew how to be good. "Also, from what Askel explained to me, it's less paralyzing us and more that non lethal subjugation also serves as our punishment for going off, denying us the fight." she didn't know from experience, because they never had to use it on her, the small girl was good at bringing herself back around.
A single scoot back was taken when she heard him turn around and dead set staring her in the face call the rule the most stupid thing he'd ever heard. "That's the first time anyone's called that one stupid." head tilting down she wondered if he was just insane or actually different. Was it possible for her to learn that without becoming one of the bad devils who had to live with the military or other blood careers? "If they found out I was training, I'd be tranquillized." finally she managed to get herself standing, hands up slightly in front of her chest turned inwards, slouching. He was serious, this man actually wanted to teach a Blood Devil to fight, after so many had taught her so hard to never raise a single claw. Looking down at her claws they suddenly seemed to feel itchy and she brushed off the idea it was because she wanted what he was offering.
Still widened blue eyes looked at the hilt of the sword as he spoke about letting her take it for a spin, instinctually her hand extended. Between her nature as a Blood Devil and the memories she knew nothing of, it was second nature to want to touch it. Momentarily she flinched pulling back her small hand for a few moments before instinct won out over her conditioning and her tiny limb closed around the hilt. A first step she would never be able to undo. She let him convince her without hesitance, no one to fight meant no foul.
Moving slightly she'd pull the blade back towards herself holding it slightly to the side, keeping the side of her eye on it as she turned and swung it slightly a few times. It felt, she could swear it was something along the lines of nostalgia but more rising from deep within and gripping around her heart. As the seconds ticked by the discomfort of feeling like she was doing wrong faded away completely leaving only her Blood Devil nature and muscle memory from her years as a warrior. Deep inside, she felt like her stomach was churning the sensation causing her to side step, resulting in the end of that swing slicing shallow into the bark of a tree causing sap to rise up like blood would on beasts.
For the first time, she truly and completely snapped her eyes dilating with an intense focus on the leaking sap. Within seconds she was off the ground jumping and swinging the blade again, this time going right through the tree before kicking it to cause the massive oak to begin falling away from them, rolling in the air and slicing through the opposite tree on the way down.
Hearing the thud of the first tree hitting the ground caused her body flinch and her gaze to return to normal, quickly turning fearful when she looked at both of the tree's, placing the blade back in front of Oras swiftly backing away from it. "I.. I." it had felt so good, but that was bad, all wrong, a clear internal struggle flickering across her pained features for a second. "I didn't know I had the strength behind me to do that." only seconds ago two tree's had been alive, now they were dead and she could only think of lifting her tail to her lips to suck on the blood in it, allowing that to calm her.

Hearing her agree with him in regards to the idiot brought a chuckle from Oras. "Pretty much. While I would say in his defense I had backed him into a corner, I take that defense back since he failed to keep from being cornered in the first place. Oh I just love showing people how stupid they really are~" he said. When she told him what the result of using her mind instead of her conditioning he thought for a moment. "Have you thought about only using your mind and skills when absolutely necessary? An example being if you were forced into a dangerous situation with no choice in the matter. For the sake of defense, if your opponent can't be reasoned with, better him than you right?" He shrugged. "And then afterwards you can cut it off and go back to your... conditioning, jeez you need a better word than that. Like how about... Proviso? That sounds less degrading and makes it sound less like them treating you like some animal and more like someone on a contract."
Upon hearing her wonder why the others care, and why they risk their lives he looked at her with an eyebrow raised. "You, do know your kind can rebirth like Phoenixes can right? If they are driven by bloodlust, they probably don't care about the pain of death, and since they don't have to fear death, well, there's your answer.. Probably hurts like a bitch though." He noticed she had stopped and turned to look at her. She looked like she was in shock if he was honest, which made sense. Oras was probably the first person to be confident he could handle her, and also the most rash. When she apologized and explained how it's just a bit stunning, and then confirmed his suspicions he smirked. "No need to thank me! Life is too short to live in fear twenty four seven. Gotta enjoy yourself when you can. Though I will knock you to the ground if you get out of hand, so just be careful. Having fun is one thing. Having fun at the expense of other's lives is another entirely."
Upon hearing how the tranquilizer worked he gave a 'tsk' of annoyance. "While I see the logic in why they'd do that, it infuriates me that faculty would do that. From what it sounds like, they treat you more like an animal than a sentient being. There are far better ways to handle, teach and train a blood devil than that... In fact, if I can get in contact with an old friend......" He might be able to get her an item, trinket of sorts. Have it enchanted in a very particular way to tone down the bloodlust. Not the need for blood, but the violent behavior that came with being a blood devil. He didn't want to get her hopes up though, so he'd keep it to himself until he was certain.
When she mentioned how he was the first who thought that rule was stupid. He scoffed. "Listen, they're basically telling you to just let yourself die if you're attacked. I don't stand for that. If you're attacked, you save yourself. What I want to train you in, is not just how to defend yourself. But how to focus on the enemy, not your allies, if you ever get into a blood rage. It's been my experience that the more you suppress something, the more difficult it becomes to keep suppressed. It will uncork one of these days, so it's best to prepare for the eventuality rather than put it off." This girl was dangerous sure, but she could be less dangerous if she learned how to channel her nature. Pushing it down made the situation worse. Indulging her nature made it worse too. Training her in how to use it however, was the best way to go about it.
Oras watched as she wielded the blade... Like a master really. He whistled as he witnessed the strikes and when she threw it down and stepped back in fear he calmly walked over, picked the sword up, dusted it off and sheathed it. "Huh. Interesting..." He walked over to her and kneeled down, patting her shoulder gently. "Relax, I'm not going to beat you up or yell at you. Now that I've seen your nature trigger, and how easily it did... I would like to help you even more so. I don't give a damn what the faculty thinks on the matter, cause they aren't thinking. If you give me permission, I will personally train you in how to ensure that if you enter a blood rage, you won't hurt any friends or allies. I can't guarantee the safety of your enemy, but at the very least we can help you channel it. You don't have to accept the offer of course, it's there for you to think about."
Standing up again he began leading her down the path towards their objective. "By the way, my name is Oras. What's yours?"

For a child of a species that was nothing beside bloodthirsty warmongers? Nyx was actually a shockingly agreeable individual when she was not made to be upset, which was a toss up to be fair. Listening to him, her mind briefly mentioned that if someone was not going to eliminate an enemy completely the first time, they should be done away with themselves. Quickly, the idea of people using words instead of actions seemed disgusting, planning a backhanded plot filled with deception, death was their punishment! Shaking her head slightly, acting as if nodding, she wondered briefly where those had come from. Sure, Nyx was used to fanaticizing about killing someone, but never something quiet as detailed as the ideology that had just burst into her brain, normally it was just senseless violence with no 'logical' reasoning deduced behind it.
"Contract?" she laughed loudly at that comment, he thought she had a contact, there was no contractual agreement for something like her, just a slim set of laws to protect them once they had agreed to do the necessary conditioning to live in society. Nyx supposed that was a contract, but not like a typical one, and she wasn't even a typical Blood Devil she wanted- thinking she wanted blood she sipped on her tail a little more. "I'm pretty sure most of the civilized word still see's Blood Devils as wild animals." if what she heard of her own kind was true, she couldn't blame the rest of the world. How could they not produce a single devil that wasn't completely corrupted. Well with any luck she would become the first.
Nyx seemed entirely shocked to find out that she was actually immortal. "Father never told me that." why did he leave out such an important detail about her anatomy? It mystified the young girl, knowing she could revive would have been useful information to have that greatly aided her understanding of the world. It also made sense as to why her kind were tranq'd instead of just killed, if someone killed them than they'd just come right back and keep on going. "Though apart from getting tranquilized being a punishment, it makes a lot more sense now as to why I never heard about any Devil's killed for flipping out." because they literally couldn't kill them, that was hilarious in some respect. Years, she carried a fear for death and now she was slowly wondering if that fear would wane, having now learned it just wasn't possible to kill her. "Do you know exactly how it works?" like if there were any rules where someone could keep her form reviving, not that she was planning to misbehave, but now she was so curious.
"I think most of my kind are actually treated like animals, but I'm one of the few who cares because the others are busy being content with their simple bloodshed in military or hunter careers. Maybe training for such things. Whereas I have openly expressed I currently want to be the first Blood Devil to be something else." but she wanted to be something else because of Askel not herself, though she'd yet to realize that simple fact. "You do that, maybe you can convince them I know how to be good." she scoffed slightly, doubtful considering how little success she had doing that for years.
He seemed to be contradicting himself considerably, saying she couldn't die than telling her that they were saying she should just die. However, she was more interested in the fact he mentioned being able to teach her to avoid harming loved ones when she lost it. Nyx was far from naïve, one day she would flip out at least once. Thus, the young girl nodded at his comment. Learning not to hurt those she loved would be beneficial.
Why was her being able to slice down full grown tree's interesting! Confusion played across her frightened face, her fingers touching the tips of one another in the downward turned gaze of her blue eyes. "I don't want to lose control like that again." she nodded unable to say the word yes to breaking the rules, hugging her own arms as she sighed.
They moved onto her name and she smiled slightly at the change of subject, considering her prior upset with the actions she had taken. "Nyx Chaotica. I honestly don't think it helps my case I mean in mythology Nyx is the night alongside being the daughter of Chaos and my last name is practically chaotic. Askel said it was that way when he adopted me." she really wished he would pick up his cell phone, but she guessed he was just having a busy work week or something like that.

Hearing the girl start laughing at his suggestion of changing the word from conditioning to proviso, or more accurately: his mentioning it sound like a contract, he simply shrugged. There were people who laughed at him often, but he really didn't care. He usually just proved them wrong, or beat the living hell out of them in a duel. Her however he didn't think that would be necessary. She was a special case as there were many conditions on her life. Some he understood and acknowledged as necessary, while others he didn't care for. At any rate, the fact that she thought the idea of it being called a contract was an interesting one. He knew there was good reason for it of course. And when she mentioned how most of the civilized world saw them as animals period, he shrugged again. "So? Are you going to let how the world sees you determine who and what you are? They can call you a mindless beast but that doesn't make you one now does it? The only time you are who and what they say you are is if you decide to listen to them, and tell yourself you are. You know what I see? I see a young sentient girl who is fighting against her carnal nature. An animal cannot do something like that. So don't just accept them calling you an animal. You're a person, period. Whether you choose to take a dark path or a bright one is up to you, and you will receive consequences for your choice. But it's your choice to make."
He really was sick of these people letting the influence and peer pressure of others govern their lives. Racism at it's finest people. Even if she chose a dark path and he had to confront and stop her, he didn't want her free will taken away. No one should have that taken from them. And maybe he could help guide her in the end anyways. When she mentioned how her father never told her she was immortal he chuckled and shook his head. "Could have been anything kid." When she asked him if he knew how it worked exactly he shook his head. "Honestly I didn't learn too much more than that. When I fought blood devils that was the most important factor, not what happened afterwards. I will say though, that dying will still probably be very painful. In addition, if your kind's revival is anything like my own, your personality, memories, etc. will vanish upon death, changing into a new personality with each death. I honestly doubt it though, it's probably just being reborn the usual fashion."
While Oras couldn't hear her thoughts, his words were less contradicting than she imagined it. Oras was sickened at the thought that faculty would exploit her ability to revive again and again. Just because she wouldn't die, doesn't mean she shouldn't 'die'. The experience was extraordinarily painful, and if she didn't want to become a full on blood devil, then she shouldn't have to go through such horrible experiences. He didn't want that for her. He doubted that any sane individual did. That's one of the reasons he hated faculty. They tried to make everything pacifist, without considering that combat may be the best way to handle the situation. Idiots.
When she mentioned how she didn't want to lose control again Oras nodded. "I'm going to translate that to a 'yes' then. Alright, how about this. Give me a time of day or night and I'll wait for you in the training grounds. I'll take you somewhere more private where we can start the training. Sound good?" When she told him what her name was he shook her hand. "Nice to meet you Nyx. And if you don't care for your last name, I could try coming up with a different, not so chaotic sounding name. I'm pretty good at that," he said with a chuckle as they continued onward.
Soon enough they reached a cave and Oras stopped in front of it. "Alright Nyx. This is our stop. Most likely the desire demon will be waiting inside. Remember: This is a fight of the mind, not the body. I don't know if it will attack both of us or just me, but be ready either way. And don't worry about letting loose if you need to. I reckon I can easily handle you and your power," he said with a chuckle and wink. He started walking into the cave and noticed the skulls and bones covering the ground. The sickening crunch echoed through the cave system and Oras sighed. "Bones and skulls. How cliché can you possibly get?"
As Oras continued to walk forward, he began hearing the whispers of spirits. Ghosts who were killed by the desire demon. They tried to drag him back but he kept pushing forward. Eventually the spirits started slowing him down. At first there was one clutching him. Then two. Then four. Then eight. Oras growled as they managed to stop his movements, their voices getting loud enough for Nyx to hear. Words of pain and suffering. Of longing and loneliness. Rage and hatred. Oras reached for his sword and drew it, thrusting the blade end downward. "Would you all just let go and go to sleep so I can free you all?!" he yelled as a powerful blast of energy erupted from his sword, knocking all of the spirits into... Well Nyx wouldn't know where. They just vanished when they were pushed back. The gust of wind would hit Nyx but didn't do anything else.
Oras drew his sword again and sheathed it. "So annoying..."

Beating the lights out of her in a duel? Would actually probably be beneficial to the memories she was not aware of loosing, bringing more things like her sword mastery to the surface of her existence. Askel had done his best to keep the young Blood Devil away from any sort of violence or conflict... However, his motives were not pure as his adopted daughter believed them to be, instead entirely corrupted by self preservation, fear of her wrath should she recall what the truth was, he cared nothing for what actually happened to her, so long as she didn't remember enough to come after him. From the moment she began growing up here, Nyx was no better than a caged animal, without even being the slightest bit aware of it expect for occasional rising emotions and reflexes. "I'm only a person to me and you." and that was the dilemma of the situation she always faced. Even her old friends from her last school? Nyx knew would easily step to the side and let her be darted, even if she was somehow completely aware in control if the guard deemed she was acting out of line, she wasn't in the least bit of control, and sometimes that got infuriating. "I can be what I want, all I want, that doesn't change how the world is going to treat me." she shrugged the comment out, looking down at her feet for a moment.
"He must have omitted it by accident, he had to go over a lot of things with me." for the moment, she was going to continue picking to see her adoptive father in the best light. Oh, how that would change in the future! When someone left you all alone for an extended period of time? It became much easier to see their true nature in a light they had prior kept from being shone. "I wish I had another Blood Devil to ask about it, sadly I've never run into any others. Due to not pursuing the same life plan as them." normally at her age, most devils were already in academies for the violent career of their choice, cadets getting ready to take on the military, police force, or such. "At least we're not hard to find. I guess I'll go to the military base in E'olham sometime after this, certain to be tons of my kind to ask questions to at that place." Of course, the trip would be costly so she would have to pick up more quests, which meant more exposure to violence if the academy had anything to say about it. Nyx briefly wondered if she could hold onto herself and do that at the same time, but she'd done well this far, no reason to believe she would not continue doing so.
That was incredibly lucky, he seemed able to translate the truth of her comment without pushing her to speak words that just could not come from her rulebound throat at the moment. Staring at him with blue eyes, while a pit dug its way into her stomach, she tried to think of the best time for them to both get away with it. "Midnight? Everyone should be asleep on campus expect Mr.Ozaki who should be off grounds hunting." she was not aware of any other truly nocturnal vampires on campus, and even Mr.Ozaki only counted as partly nocturnal thanks to his job securing blood for the member's of student and facility who had to consume it. "Eh, its moreso the whole name being dark, but it's mine in the end." and she was kind of wondering why someone would name their child that, perhaps by keeping it, one day she'd come across the blood devil's who birthed and put her up for adoption, ending her in Askels care. Why hadn't they wanted her? "And it's all I have in connection to whatever two devils conceived me." she couldn't shake the feeling there was something she needed to know about her birth. If Oras ever prodded to research in response to her comment? He'd quickly find that several things were actually amiss about the young girl, namely the fact there was no birth record for someone named Nyx Chaotica and no other Blood Devils had the last name Chaotica like she did, so it was more than likely she had not been adopted legally but by someone who had the means to make an illegal adoption perfectly legal.
As they made their way through the cave her optics kept flickering around to every skull in the room, bones crunching beneath their feet and putting this stupid grin on her face, filling her with a feeling she couldn't understand. The girl was silent for how she had been before, hands clasped together in front of her, a weird expression painting her features as if she was squirming within her own body. For some reason her chest was swelling warmly with fond emotion at the sight of such massacre, and it was disturbing as to why it would do that. Heck, she could just about see each one falling and their blood pouring out onto the ground.
That moment, was when it became, the demon easily able to latch onto what she did not understand.
Nyx froze in place, blood leaking from the skeletons and slowly coming to form a carpet of viscera across the cavern floor. As if possessed she walked forward, hearing the blood and other assorted nastiness squish beneath her feet as some unknown force drew her forward down the hall lined with bone and bronze. When she finally reached the end? Atop a pile of skulls in a bronze throne sat large a man seemingly double her size with bone white hair and blue eyes. "Nyx." she heard her own name spoken by that man as he descended the pile of bones connected to his throne, without delay he was standing right before her a single large palm coming down to rest on her cheek fondly. In a trance like state, the young girl leaned her face into his touch, content rising within her body as if she was complete in this moment. "My devote little Nyx, I tire of this." making a small sound she looked up at him with her blue eyes shining with happiness she hadn't felt in this lifetime. "Let's runaway from all this-" he kept speaking, arms moving to embrace her, but without her memories to aid it the demon trying to defeat her willpower had screwed up. Nyx felt the pit in her stomach drop, a loud hiss emitting from her mouth as her arms which had been rising to embrace him suddenly pushed outwards. "YOU'RE NOT CHAORIS!" who was that? Nyx couldn't remember, but she knew this was not him the feeling churning in her stomach the moment he said 'runaway' screamed it at her. Within seconds the illusion was on fire and once it burned away it shattered.
It was now she realized that the demon was staring her down, debating what to do with her, before she could even react the creature chose to throw her into the illusion Oras was having.

When Oras heard her mention how the world would never treat her like a normal person his eyes rolled to the heavens. This again??? "And? Just because they treat you like that doesn't mean you should care. You show them who you are, you prove them wrong, and you correct them when they say or act otherwise. Just because it's how the world sees you doesn't mean it's something you bow down and accept. You're only an animal, demon, villain, weakling, slave, prisoner, etc. if you let yourself be. While not everything is a bad thing, you do need to learn how to stand for yourself. Not like some overlord I'll beat them into submission type thinking, but simply proving them wrong."
When she suggested they do midnight Oras nodded in agreement. "Right. If we do midnight, I'll probably need some ice to recharge but that's about it. Midnight works perfectly." While the Atranoch didn't sleep, he could meditate. When in these meditation states, he was still aware of the world around him, but was able to recall memories and watch them on a mental screen, able to remember most anything by using this method. He used it when he was pondering something he learned to see if he could learn anything in addition, as well as whether there was something hidden from his sight. The only reason he was thinking about getting ice beforehand was due to the fact that he used up energy during the day, thus would need a recharge if he'd be active during the night hours as well. When she mentioned how the entire name was technically dark in general, she didn't mind as it was her name and no one else's. Oras patted her shoulder with a chuckle. "Well said kid. Well said indeed."
Soon they were deep within the cave and when he turned to check and see if Nyx was doing alright he noted that she was gone. Confused at first, his eyes narrowed and scanned the area around him. Except he wasn't in a cave system anymore. He was in what appeared to be an underground structure. A large room with a corridor near the end that curved to the right. A large chandelier hanging from the ceiling as well as rows of bookshelves along the east and west walls, and a long table in the center. It was clear this place was abandoned, and yet someone was here recently. Then he heard a voice: "Come on Oras, the map says it's this way!" Oras smiled as he closed his eyes. So that's what the demon would be going with eh? Well. It was a very effective method. Oras decided to play along simply for the sake of soothing peace of being with his old summoner. Even if he wasn't real. Oras smirked at his comrade. "Yeah but what fun would it be if it was easy? That way leads around the ambush. You flank them from behind and I'll trigger the ambush. Sound good?"
The man he was speaking to was wearing a simple cloth vest and pants, as well as small boots. He had short red hair that was brushed towards the back of his head, orange eyes, and while he was strong he didn't look like it. A golden ring with two emerald gemstones and a diamond in the center rested on his left hand's finger. The man laughed. "Classic you Oras! Alright then let's do it. I'll get more of them if I attack them from behind, you know this right?" "As if! Loser buys a king's feast for the other!" "You're on!" And with that the two separated, a smile of glee on his face. And eyes full of completion and peace.
The enemies they had faced that day were a group of pillagers. They had been stealing from many people across the lands and the two of them were hired to put an end to them. They managed to drive them back to here, their final outpost. With this being the corner they were backed into, they were out of options save for fighting the two head on. They were of mixed races, and if memory served him correctly there were seventeen fighters, three magic users, and six assassins. The fight had been a big one. Not their biggest, but it provided the two with some excellent entertainment. Fighting alongside his first summoner once more was a blessing more than a challenge. The two of them worked seamlessly. They could predict one another's thoughts and movements, and thus could improvise without jeopardizing the plan. They could fight together without risk of harming the other. They were the perfect alliance.
The two of them, they had done great feats together. And even as Oras fought off the opposing forces with his sword, he brought each of those memories up. One at a time. One after another. The ancient war they participated in. The Grand Tournament in the coliseum. Even the literal wild goose chase when it stole something they very much needed, and turned out to have phasing abilities. Each warming memory soothed his heart, and rekindled the longing to see them.. To see those he promised his summoner he'd see. He made a promise... He would not break it. Not now. Not ever. He still had some time left. If he could just get Inglisse to work with him... He didn't want to go visit them without his summoner. He felt that, if he was going to be on this world with her, then she deserved to see.
After the fight was over he stood there with his friend. His first summoner panting heavily chuckled as he punched Oras on the shoulder. "What's with you not using your powers eh? You never pass the chance to show off how strong you are!" Oras gave a sad smile and sighed. "Yeah well... I miss us dueling together. With blades. I miss fighting beside you like this." To this his summoner looked very confused, which was accurate. He figured the desire demon would do everything it could to keep him trapped. "You that desperate? We had a sparring match last night." Oras shook his head in dismissal. "You won't understand, don't worry about it. And besides," he said before he turned and dashed forward, drawing his sword and aiming it forward. He wouldn't see Nyx, but he would have dashed right beside her, aiming towards the demon. The creature attempted to dodge Oras, but the atranoch anticipated this and shattered into fragments, moving to the right, reforming, and then proceeding with his stab.
While Nyx wouldn't have seen his fracture move, due to it happening behind her, she would be able to see the desire demon with a sword thrust into its side. The creature slowly freezing solid. "I know what happens after that day. And I'd rather not see them just yet. As you probably heard me think to myself, I'd rather make the trip with my new summoner." The demon growled and pushed itself back, though it's movement was greatly hindered with the ice coating it's body. The ice was one of Oras' unique forms which was very strong rather than fragile. Oras swiped his sword, flinging the blood off of the blade. "It was a pleasant experience to see my first summoner again. I thank you for that comfort. However I've fought desire demons before. Just because you know my past doesn't mean you can fool me. Especially when I know in advance what you were likely to use against me.
"Now then. You've seen my memories, my past, and what I'm capable of. You have two choices: Let us execute you, and I'll make it quick and painless. Or we have a duel and I have a blast fighting you until we finish you off. The choice is yours desire demon... Before you die though, do you have any sort of name?"

It was incredibly disorientating to be thrown into someone else's illusion, into a dream she knew nothing about and did not belong within. Only, something about walking through this landscape felt familiar, as if she was used to walking through things she knew were not real. How could that be? She'd never done anything like this before, but of course she had never seen a man named Chaoris before to her knowledge. As seconds ticked by and she observed events, the female realized that she was invisible within this illusion, likely because the demon did not want her warning Oras of whatever it was about to do. All Nyx could do for the moment was run to keep up with the moving events so she wouldn't get lost somewhere in his psyche. Was that even a thing? Part of her told her that could happen to people.
Normally she was supposed to be avoiding violence, but she was seeing an excess of it lately. Momentarily? She considered closing her eyes and covering her ears as to avoid more exposure which woke those uncomfortable feelings inside of her. Yet, she quickly realized this just wasn't possible if she wanted to keep up, she had to watch. Quickly as the seamless fighting progress, it didn't feel horrible as she had expected witness such carnage to feel. In fact, the girl found herself running alongside them even though she could interact with nothing, her body reacting on its own to perceiving that she was in the middle of a fight. Why did watching them take down a small army feel like something she had seen thousands of times before, as if it was just the appetizer for something better. Nyx wanted to see more of this, desperately, but she guessed if she stuck around with Oras eventually this would become an incredibly common sight to witness.
Feelings churned in the illusion, but being as she was taught to remain calm as she could at all times the Blood Devil had an exceptionally limited ability to quickly process what was passing through her in this dreamscape. Everything broke down again easily enough when Oras jolted forward and stabbed the beast snapping them both out of it this time. Suddenly being back in the real world was jarring for a few seconds and it took her several to be able to move her body again this time, whereas her partner had only been subject to one the little devil had been subject to two in a row. Once she could move? Her brain went to stopping Oras from instantly killing the beast, as she needed to know the truth and unable to fight she could not make the creature tell her why it had shown her that man.
"Oras!" she rushed up alongside them, staying just out of the demons grasp to tug on the blade wielders shirt lightly, body still shaking slightly from everything. "I need to know why he put me under the illusion he placed me under." she seemed a bit desperate to be completely honest, blue eyes slightly watery as if she was in pain, which part of her was, she just couldn't remember. "I don't know the man he showed me, I don't know why he showed me that place, none of its mine." she needed to know if it was just some trick, otherwise she may be trying to figure it out forever. Little did she know, that she did know everything that desire demon had showed her, it was simply that the memories that should have been attached to the desires were completely absent as if they hadn't existed in the first place, feelings stronger than time and muscle memory left in their place. "Can you do that? Can you make him tell the truth?" she sighed slightly, backing off, if Oras couldn't do it than the demon just needed to die.

When Nyx begged Oras not to finish off the demon he looked at her with confusion mixed with curiosity. He didn't say anything however, and instead let her finish her thoughts. Her first sentence he paused to process. That is to say he meditated on this, able to process it a bit faster than normal beings. The illusion should have been something that had an irresistible tie to the individual's heart. It should have shown her something she knew and loved more than anything in the entire multiverse. Either something or someone. So why would she have seen an illusion and been confused as to why he showed her it? When he left his meditation and heard her next sentence he blinked. Maybe he should mediate on it after she finished giving the answers to his mental questions.
When she asked him if he could make the demon tell her the truth the demon cackled. "Oh shut up you stupid bi-" Oras kicked him in the face, knocking him to the ground. His cackling turned to laughter. "Oh shut up and give me a second to strategize!" Oras said while he froze the demon's mouth. He thought about this a second, pacing back and forth. His mind was like a computer right now, pulling out memories and stored knowledge of desire demons, tactics, methods, personality and tendencies. Eventually he sighed and squatted down in front of the demon.
"Alright here's the deal. We have two choices here. The first is that you tell her what she wants. I kill you. Quick and clean. The second is I call an angel of justice and punishment to take you to the heavens themselves for divine punishment or whatever. Either way you die, you just get to pick how painful or painless." With that Oras shattered the mouth seal. The demon returned to laughing but calmed it to cackling when Oras growled. "Cute. But it isn't enough to break me. What you mortals call torture, I call Monday exercise. However: I will leave you with something." He turned to look at Nyx with a sadistic grin. "Have you ever wondered why you love your father?" With that Oras knocked the idiot out. "That's it, eternal punishment for you. Idiot."

Confusion was had in spades between the two of them, primarily Nyx who had no idea why she would have such strong desire for someone she had never met once in her entire life and looked completely unfamiliar to her in every sense of the word, emotions following through her suggesting she didn't even think they were mortal. The young blood devil kept her eyes trained to Oras awaiting what he would do in response to the request she had made and the demons subsequent refusal to be kind. If Oras simply killed the Desire Demon she would never have anything to go off, no way to know which direction to search in!
Luckily the boy chose to be kind to her in spite of the demons behavior and inability to be relied upon, the boy got the best answer he could for her. If that was the best she could get than it was simply going to have to be her starting point in discovering what the truth of her illusion was. "Thanks Oras. I know it isn't much and he said it mostly to taunt us, but at least it gives me something to go off." eventually she would see Askel again anyway, and maybe he would know why she had seen that man if she explained it to him and asked him why she loved him! One could always hope for the easy solution. Little did Nyx know if she ever attempted that easy solution, the man she knew as her father would not hesitate in attempting to murder her, instantly try to end her life permanently.
