welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The female was thankful for the fact she had been trained the hardest short of her teams general who was not currently present, otherwise she may have taken the boys stumbling the wrong way. Laughing briefly she shook her head as if she didn't know what to do with them. "You're really lucky none of the generals are present right now." Having another Blood Devil as a general wasn't the best idea due to how they tended to lose their heads or not understand other cultures, but the species that often ended up their General's had it's own set of issues. "Here, just know sometimes I may have to call you back later as my team is one of the most often used one's. Actually, I'm surprised we haven't been called out yet today." she mused the comment out, wrapping her daughter in the blanket that covered the small infant so she could cradle the girl against her for the moment.
"ASSEMBLE NOW!" the shout was made by another female with short cut hair and quite the nasty expression as if she was automatically angry at every single thing around her. Instantly at the call several of the devil's stilled completely including the three that had been interacting with the group most, the red head handing her daughter over to the fairy who seemed a bit uncomfortable with holding the tiny girl but did so anyway. "Orca Village is under attack by Ice Wolves again, we're moving out now. I'll meet the seven of you there." the woman who had screamed seemed to be some sort of general, but one look at the gathering and one could easily tell there was a bit more to it than that. Every devil held such an admiring expression looking at the woman, almost as if she had something of great value to every single one of them. Easily one could call the way the devil's stared at their general creepy.
It was around that moment that Nyx woke up with a splitting head ache tiny hands gripping at her forehead for several moments clawing slightly at her own flesh until she could think clearly past it. Why had she seen all that? Paws, chest fur, hands without claws, hands with claws, nearly flat chested, busty, different bodies just completely drenched in blood from her perspective. That couldn't be her past or future vision, right? That power only showed her a first person perspective when it was her own memory. "Since she's awake, I'll allow you guys to watch them work. However, as their General is a Rage Beast we'll have to stay a safe distance, it may be messy but grouping them as such also allows all seven devils to be triggered at one time no matter how well we've conditioned them, no need for a verbal command." which meant that once the team was bonded together it was actually the best way to operate as they would rarely become aggressive with other species that did not directly challenge them or rile them unless their general flipped the switch. It made keeping the dangerous species as soldiers manageable.
Nyx appeared uncertain when there was talk of watching them work, nervousness entering her gaze as she wondered what that meant. Why couldn't they get too close to the Rage Beast general? She had never heard of that species before! Little did she know that would become incredibly important to her over time, well at least one rage beast would. It wasn't as if Chaoris wasn't already important, she saw him in her dreams almost every night even not knowing who the man was, but one day she'd come to understand why he was so special. "Is it really safe?" the tension showed in her voice, skittish gaze glancing around. "It should be, long as you don't get close to the rage beast. Devil's just go off when exposed to the aura beasts can generate." after stating this the fairy motion for them to follow him leading the group to a small jeep out front of the building, securing the tiny sleeping devil into a baby seat that seemed a bit obsessively safe even for such a young child, even draping an airy mesh cover over the seat when he was done. After everyone who decided to come along was seated, the male would kick the jeep into drive taking them all the way into the village to it's outskirts.
The village looked somewhat trashed, fishing nets tore open, deep scratch and bite marks all over the place. One could just make out the devils and their general engaged in combat with four legged enemies which they had already drove back to the tree line. Nyx looked what could be described as horrified seeing the corpses of several dozen ice wolves splattered in different degrees of dismemberment on the ground, a few more struggling for their last breathes left by the devils to blood out after ensuring the wounds were fatal.

He let out a small sigh of relief when neither of them reacted poorly to his slip of the tongue, and took her number when offered, stiffing it into one of the pockets that wasn’t blood soaked. He got up from the couch. By now at his wounds had at least scabbed over and were in the process of healing, but his cloths were still ruined and the couch would possibly never be rid of the stain. But there wasn’t much he could do about it now.
In hearing that they were going out to watch a blood devil battalion fight, he looked worriedly to Ryse for a moment. He felt embarrassed to admit to himself that she had fallen to the wayside of his considerations for the majority of this trip. But she had handled the fight between him and the male blood devil surprisingly well, and hadn’t freaked out when going through the training room. She had freaked out in seeing Nyx’s horns, but she’d steeled herself considerably since then.
Still, Ozaki would try to do a better job in keeping an eye on her. And not dropping behind them to verbally spar with a battalion of blood devils. By Dracula’s fangs, he could be an idiot sometimes. “A rage beast?” Ozaki muttered, looking at the presumed general. Was that what they called their general? There was a small rumbling from the shadows of his mind as he watched the rage beast. He closed his eyes and shook his head a few times to clear himself of the sensation.
Ozaki probably ought keep his distance too. This aura beast seemed to have an effect outside of blood devils.
The vampire followed them to the jeep, internally noting the fact that apparently blood devils didn’t have baby sitters. If they were taking a baby near a battle field either it really was safe, or they weren’t a trusting species when it came to letting others care for them. Granted they did live on base but… “A couple of questions… And I hope it doesn’t seem too bad to ask but… Umm… Do blood devils not have daycares or something? Why’d you bring her to work?” Why were they bringing her to the outskirts of a battlefield? There was such a thing as take your kid to work day, but this was a bit much. she was too young to appreciate any of this, and would only serve as a distraction. A cute, adorable distraction, but still a distraction.
He, for one, was very distracted by it for half of the ride over. He'd always wanted one of his own. But it didn't seem very likely. Were it not for the highly protective set up with the baby Ozaki might have actually been tempted to pick up a rattle that had been abandoned on the floor to play with the kid. But he wasn't sure her parents would like that...
As they approached the battlefield and saw the carnage he put a hand on Nyx's head to comfort her, and a tentative one on Ryse's shoulder. He wasn't sure if she'd be comfortable with the gesture. But he wanted them to know he was there for the both of them. He too was a bit troubled by the scene, but he was doing his best not to let it show. Not that he was likely doing a good job, considering he'd dissolved into a stammering mess like he usually did when he got really nervous. Ozaki had already caused one fight with his temper, he didn't want another one.
“And what exactly are these rage beasts anyways? Is that what you really call them? I mean its fine if you do… But it seems like… An odd name.”
He was trying to be careful with his words, but he had a feeling, like usual, he was just making it worse.

A what now? A Rage Beast? What in Vissarion's name was that?
Ryse squirmed uncomfortably as she sat next to Ozaki on the couch, unsure what this new creature would do. If it posed a threat to them or not. It was clear from the blood devils' words that it affected their species by setting off their violent natures. How it could affect other species, however, was something she didn't know. Did it only affect creatures similar to blood devils? Or did it affect all manner of creatures? She was both intrigued and nervous. Hopefully it was as safe as the fairy said it was.
As they piled into the vehicle, she chose one of the seats in the jeep next to Ozaki. She was more awake than before, as the nervousness of seeing an actual battlefield for the first time sent her into an anxious state, but she was still tired. She'd heard the stories from her mother, stories about blood and seeing foes decimated across the field. But she'd never seen one before. And she'd never participated in one. She'd sparred before. However, even she knew that sparring was leagues different from an actual battle, where your opponents could do more than just leave a bruise or two. People killed you in a battle; there weren't any second chances.
While she didn't say it, she agreed with Ozaki's question. Wouldn't it be dangerous to bring a child near a battlefield? She had no doubt that the young devil's parents would kill any creature that posed a threat before it even came close to the child, but even so. Things could happen. However, it was not her place to say. So as the jeep drove towards the battlefield, Ryse gave a small smile at the child, making funny faces to make it giggle and laugh. It was undoubtedly adorable.
As they drew near the village, however, her attention was drawn away from the child as the strong scent of death hit her nose. Death and decay. Raising her head and looking out at the battlefield, her face paled at what she saw. The death. The destruction. The mutilated and dismembered bodies strewn everywhere. Blood coating the ground, soaking into the grass. Enemies gasping for breath, some falling limp within moments while others struggled on. This was undoubtedly different than her mother's stories. Much different indeed.
The terror was clear to see on her face, her heart racing. Hearing the dying screams of the enemies in her ears, the scent of blood and death in her nose, the sight was almost too much for her. Knowing that it was the Ice Wolves and the Blood Devils that had caused all this carnage wasn't what scared her. It was the sight of the destruction in the first place. While she initially knew that it wouldn't be pretty, she hadn't thought it would be this bad. Looking at a creature that was still gasping, its breath rattling in her throat, she was partly horrified at the brutality, a tear trailing down her cheek. Why would they let their opponent suffer like that? Why not just end its life quickly, so it didn't have to suffer? When she and her mother went hunting, they made sure not to let their prey suffer, to kill it quickly. Killing their food slowly was seen as a disgrace, and seeing this carnage made her sick to her stomach. Sure, the Ice Wolves were their enemies, but nothing deserved to die like that. Nothing.
She nearly jumped in fright as she felt a hand on her shoulder, tearing her gaze away from the terrible sight to look at whoever had touched her. Upon seeing it was Mr. Ozaki, however, she relaxed. Giving him a shaky smile. "I'm, uh. I'm okay, Mr. Ozaki." She replied in a choked voice, fighting to pull herself together.. The sight was horrible, and she never wanted to see something like this again. But she would stay. If nothing else, she would try to take as much as she could away from this. Focusing on how the blood devils fought as a group, their strategies and how they coordinated attacks, would help keep her mind off of the death around her. Maybe.

Jace was careful when he carried the infant and sat the child down the ground in front of the small group. "Zena is just as capable of murder as the other devils thanks to being able to manipulate blood as weapon from birth. Only she doesn't know yet what she's allowed to kill and what she's not, meaning she can only be around those capable of protecting themselves from her or other devil's." meaning if she was placed into daycare, it was likely the other children would end up dead as seemingly the species was born with their thirst for the sight of blood. Frowning slightly he turned to the other three, scratching his neck briefly. "Actually, bringing her on the field is part of her conditioning until we can properly condition her when she's old enough to understand. In the meantime we rely on her learning by watching the other devils in much the same way certain wild animals learn what's safe to eat by watching their parents. We keep her back, she gets to see and interact with enemies in a protected capacity, thus learning what she's allowed to kill if it happens to be close enough for her limited range to lash out at it and becomes less likely to lash out at things she shouldn't." as he spoke those words the man drew his hand gun shooting a wolf that had been crawling its way with snarling teeth towards Zena who was busy playing with the blood of another that was beyond moving.
"Rage Beast is indeed the proper title for them. It's a species nearly old as time from what is known they are one of the species initially born from emotion, rage or similar notions in their case. They can create conflict out of next to nothing, its even said they can preform miracles if their emotions or emotions directed at them are strong enough, one of those miracles is said to be what brought the first Blood Devil's into the world. Of course, it could be a folk tale." but the legend did explain why Blood Devil's latched to their beasts so quickly without any question, so he chose to believe it on a personal level. What else could explain such things being borne unto the world besides pure and unaltered rage towards the world. Leaning against a building he watched as more wolves fell, realizing the fight would not last much longer as the devil's were truly going at it today.
Nyx shoved her head into Yuuki's side when he placed his hand on top of her head, not wanting to look at the carnage. If asked? She'd say it made her feel horrible, but the truth was she only felt bad because her heart was beating in such a way that she felt longing for what was before her. The girl could not understand why she did not detest the scene before her, why it seemed almost familiar and comforting. One word came to her head again, Chaoris.

“Its okay if you’re not okay.” Ozaki muttered to her, keeping his hand on her shoulder. Truth be told all the blood about was enough to make his own stomach churn as well, however he was going to keep that on the down low. The girls needed a strong figure right now.
When the woman spoke his attention as brought back to the conversation.
Then why not a daycare just for the blood devil babies? With blood devil nannies? Then again, they’d still be killing each other. But would that be so bad for them? They seemed to have quite the ability for regeneration. Probably. Ozaki recalled. They had said their infants were quite fragile. Perhaps harm this early in their development could end up with things like a non-working wing like the male blood devil from before had.
When Nyx buried her head in Ozaki’s side he started stroking her hair slowly, trying to soothe her. “Probably should have asked earlier… But what are her parent's names any how?” He asked, speaking in regards to the child's parents of course.
Miracles huh? What a vague concept. That could mean anything.

The hybrid kept her focus on the information the fairy was saying instead of the carnage around them, staying at Ozaki's side. His hand on her shoulder was somewhat comforting, even if her senses were going off the rails. She would definitely need a clothespin for her nose if she ever went on a quest like this again. Hearing what Jace was saying.... it was a little disturbing. Blood devils could kill even when they were infants? It made sense, considering the species, but still. Thinking about the fact that a one year old would kill other infants around it because it couldn't control its urges for blood was nerve wracking. She was suddenly glad the child wasn't in a normal daycare. The results would no doubt be catastrophic.
Rage beasts were created from emotions? Ryse raised an eyebrow at this. How was such a thing possible? Perhaps the emotions in one area became so tangible that it became a living entity itself? She'd never heard of a species like this before. "Do you know if the rage beast has any weaknesses?" If it was living, such a creature was bound to have a weakness or two. Nothing was invulnerable.

The fairy looked over his wings fluttering slightly when the name of the infants parents were asked for, an easy enough question to answer. "Alisa is the female she's one of the oldest devil's I know and was one of the first to make steps towards pushing for the species to be part of society at large, so she's respected among many devil's." and much easier to get along with than most of her species due to the beyond conscious effort to ensure she was a positive member of society, an excellent care put towards the endeavor. "Bani on the other hand, the dude barely made legal status, a hot head if I've ever seen one. Shockingly he's not at all related to the devil's that couldn't make legal, he's just an aggressive guy." seriously, Jace didn't like being around the brown haired devil he was just too unpredictable but he did his job and had yet to actually commit any crimes under the laws made for the species. "Everyone is hoping Zena takes after her mother." the laugh was slightly awkward as he looked over at Ryse to pay attention to her question.
"I mean they have flaws the same as our species, buut…." he trailed off, looking at the general who had just decided to rip the head off one of the beasts she was fighting, cringing slightly at her rage. "Their biggest ones are that they need rage present within a certain distance to revive and their wounds become unbearably painful once they settle. However, their partnership with blood devil's ensures their is almost always rage or a similar emotion close enough and." he broke from speaking to run his finger's down the arm of the little devil clinging to Yuuki pulling his hand away to reveal something slightly sticky was coming from her skin. "This stuff gets rid of pain when applied directly and devil's can produce nearly an unlimited amount of it." he shook the liquid from his fingers lightly before wiping his hand onto his clothing. "Of course, most of their weaknesses relate to the fact they can make living voodoo dolls of themselves provided they can get a piece of you, even a strand of hair is enough for them to kill someone by stabbing themselves in the chest and it just does nothing to them. I've seen her go right through her own heart and be perfectly fine." it was disturbing to watch the rage beast turn herself into a living pin cushion, incredibly so, but luckily she didn't do it incredibly often. "Sure, someone can break the enchantment but it's difficult unless you happen to enjoy getting stabbed." which was another thing that made Devil's perfect for working with Rage Beasts considering the beast couldn't just use themselves as a pin cushion to kill the devil, the first stab would break the enchantment meaning it was useless after that most times. "It's actually really convenient to pair them like this, they make all seven of their devil's stronger, but if they happen to also have a close emotional connection to one of their devil's like the commander and general have, the rage beast doesn't go berserk. Plus the devil's can take care of the beast if it happens to get sick, it's ironic rage beasts don't recover illness unless it killed them but devil's just completely regenerate." it was ironic to him as supposedly beasts made devil's, yet it seemed that the blood devil's possessed a better regeneration in his eyes since they could literally get out of the common cold by stabbing themselves to death. "If one forgets for a second both species are basically murderous monsters, they're actually fairly fascinating especially the fact they formed a symbiotic relationship when everything about the two species personality wise says they should just want to kill." he clearly had his solid opinions in spite of or perhaps because of the fact the worked with both every day.
She could do that? Get rid of pain just like that! No one had told her she could do that. "Oh wow, that's what this stuff is? I just thought my sweat was really sticky." touching her own arm she watched the fluid from her hand and arm cling to each other, creating small lines like a beaded spiders web between them. Without any mind of what the substance was she had just kinda been producing it whenever she started sweating over something due to her misconception that it was the same thing. Luckily this new discovery kept her from really caring about the fact their tour guide had by association called her a murderous monster, she was too interested in realizing she had something that did a task besides murder. Something in the back of her mind ticked when she thought about this power bringing the white haired man back to her mind for reasons she couldn't understand.

Aggressive was putting it mildly, Ozaki thought in relation to Bani. Honestly the whole lot here had severely disappointed him. And Bani was on the top of his list. But he’d remember the name anyhow. If he had to call Alisa at some point there might be a chance he might pick up the phone… That’d be awkward.
When the fairy mentioned getting stabbed in the heart Ozaki looked a bit uncomfortable for a second. Did he really have to use that example? He made a mental note to never piss off a rage beast. How hard would that be? What was their temperament like?
He would imagine it would be very hard to kill one. Particularly considering these creatures could trigger bouts of rage as well. He himself had felt a small pull from the rage beast’s presence awhile back. But he was fine now. Even if the rage beast did get closer in this state, it likely knew how to control its area of effect. Worst come to worst, he had ways of dealing with it.
His thoughts were momentarily distracted when he noticed that Rena was starting to cling to his leg. He smiled down at her, hiding his nerves at the idea of her potentially biting him. Even at this age they were potentially deadly. But unless she went for his heart or had a talent manifest this early that was related to what vampires were weak to, he’d be fine. His wounds had stopped bleeding entirely by this point.
Ozaki was a little nervous about what to do with the kid- if he were allowed to do anything. Then decided to screw it. She was adorable and already clinging to him anyways. He kneeled down and ruffled the hair between her horns. “Hey there kiddo.” He said in a soft voice.
Ozaki took in hearing about the murderous monsters part rather smoothly. That might be what the blood devils on this island were like, but that wasn’t his Nyx. She might become something like that at one point. But she’d never be like this. Nyx would be better, a wolfhound, not a rabid wolf. The majority of blood devils on this island seemed to be masochists. So it was no wonder they made good partners for Rage Beasts. Not that he was judging them or anything… A species did what they had to do or whatever. It was just that Nyx hadn’t been raised in this culture and was thusly different.
It then struck him as odd that a supposedly human father had actually been able to survive raising a blood devil. Particularly a starved one. If she were a vampire she’d have gone into a blood frenzy years ago. The one question Ozaki had was whether or not the father had meant to starve her. Even for blood devils the taste for sin was rare. But like Alisa had said, if Nyx had hunted by herself at all she’d have realized this easily.
But was it a bad thing for a father to try and provide all the food they good for their child and not want them to… Not even competitive games though. This was starting to look highly suspect. No matter what the case, even if it was neglect through ignorance. It was wrong. If you did not know how to take care of your child and did not bother trying to educate yourself then that was almost just as bad as intentionally harming them.
The vampire gripped his pen tightly. Ignorance was no excuse. Even he had come here upon realizing how little he knew about Nyx, and how very little she knew about herself.
Ozaki looked up as Nyx started playing with her secretions. For a moment he pondered asking to collect some so he could mimic the effects later. But on second thought he already had enough pain killers in his arsenal. Though it might be good to have one that didn’t have to be injected. He had at least one numbing cream, but nothing that powerful that it could apparently help treat a creature that made a habit of making itself into a pin cushion. Though knowing the chemical make up of the secretion could be useful for knowing what kind of substances her body was capable of producing.
Was she sweating that all the time?
The nerd in him was demanding he collect a sample immediately. How much did she produce? What happened to the amount that wasn’t used? Did it evaporate like sweat itself? Probably, otherwise she’d always be sticky. Ozaki had a brief imagining of someone not realizing how slick a blood devil could be, and accidentally dropping their baby because of that. That… Would end badly. “Umm…” He was hesitant to say anything about what Nyx was doing.
“You might not want to be doing that.” He said after a moment. It might not be sweat, but it was kind of… Weird to be seeing that. He didn’t want to say gross. But it was a tiny bit. But to be fair she was discovering new things about her body. So it was natural. Oh shit he shouldn't have said anything at all shouldn't he?

All of the information Ryse was currently learning helped keep her attention away from the carnage currently happening around them. She would glance around to make sure none of the wolves were close enough to attack them, but for the most part she was concentrating on what she was writing down in her notebook. The fact that rage beasts and blood devils had a sort of symbiotic relationship in which both species benefited was definitely interesting. As well as the fact that rage beasts apparently created blood devils in the first place. And that blood devils had an ability that could heal wounds.
"Most blood devils may be natural killers. But Nyx is different; she's not like the others." She replied, looking at Jace before smiling at Nyx. "I trust her."
Most people would call her naive. Some would call her an idiot, or stupid. But she tended to trust others quickly if they proved to her she could trust them. So far, even though Nyx had nearly attacked Ozaki earlier, the incident hadn't been the young devil's fault. She hadn't made the conscious decision to do such a thing. And so, she trusted Nyx not to be like the other blood devils she'd seen at the military base. She trusted that Nyx would be more than a bloodthirsty monster. She'd been told before that her sense of loyalty to others could get her killed. Right now, however, she was going to trust Nyx. And Mr. Ozaki. Time would tell whether she'd made the right decision or the wrong one.

The carnage was so unsightly even the fairy was clearly trying to not look much as he could manage. However, one creature among the group of them had a much different internal reaction. Once she finished playing with the sticky secretion she now knew the purpose of? Nyx was unable to remove her gaze from the murderous scene in front of them. Even as they spoke of how she was different, the girl spoken of was beginning to doubt what they were so certain of. Inside of her body the little girl could feel her blood heating up swiftly just on the verge of turning to liquid fire in her veins. No matter how much what she'd been taught up till now told her she should be terrified of what was going on, deep down she knew the emotion churning inside her stomach was not fear. Blue optics stayed trained switching between each of the creatures on the battlefield easily tracking each strike made on either side. How could she even keep up with that! Nyx wasn't sure but as her wings wrapped around her own body in a comfort sort of gesture, she couldn't tear her gaze away.
"Eh, you call the squirt different, I call her a timebomb." Jace didn't seem to believe that someone could actually change the 'spots' of a devil so to speak. Of course, his stance was somewhat understandable considering he had to deal with a whole barracks of beastly devils on a daily basis. "The last time I saw one abstain was Alisa's pregnancy because Zena wouldn't have survived if she got killed during a fight." revealing that unborn devil's were far from the immortal obnoxiousness of their adult versions, it was something that changed in them sometime after birth. "Alisa couldn't even last to hold Zena once she knew the infant was alright, she couldn't fight it anymore, left to sate herself, it was days before we saw her again. That clean up mission was my most difficult, luckily she didn't kill anything inappropriate but I'm pretty sure anyone who found the bodies before we did was traumatized and she admitted herself she couldn't remember what all she had killed when she returned to the barracks." he scoffed slightly after speaking about it, clearly even though he worked with them Jace was not the biggest fan of the newly legalized species. "Though it was good logistics wise as it proved the developed conditioning works better than we thought it would." In his opinion you could direct a predator, lure it and make it hesitate, but one could never change the truest nature of them.
Luckily, the fight was finally over and expect for a few devils feeding on corpses things seemed to be calming down.
