welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

She had helped saved several fellow students with that Sharaku and that other dude, a few days before. She had some free time before there would be a way for her to get back to Eldritch Academy, which got her to thinking about the place called Bracklethorn Island not too far off the coast of the city she was in now, the largest military base in the region that also housed an entire division made of her kind. One of these days, it would be undoubtable that she would have to stand face to face with another devil one of these days, especially if she wanted to learn about the things her father had not told her of her own abilities. However, knowing the reputation of the rest of the world's Blood Devil's the teenager was far too afraid of her own species to go into the lion's den alone. What did any good student do when they were too scared to partake in a research project alone? Call up the school and see if maybe it could become an official group project! Nyx did exactly that and got a very good result from the Academy which told her to wait for two partners on a quest to collect information on Blood Devil's, it was only logical for them to be willing, considering they had one running around their halls now. Finally the day arrived where she was supposed to meet her quest partner's at the airship station on the mainland before they'd catch the ferry together to Bracklethorn Island for a tour through the Blood Devil section of the station that the military graciously agreed to. "Mr.Ozaki!" It was clear the little girl dressed in a tank top and shorts was overjoyed the second she saw the vampire get off the airship. "They sent you for the research quest?!" It was great that one of the people send to do this with her would be someone who knew why this was important to her! "Whose number three? Were they on the ship with you?! I want to get going, the tour starts at six sharp." the little devil was clearly happy about the idea of getting to see other Blood Devil's for the first time.

A teenager stepped from the airship behind the professor, looking around with a nervous expression on her face. This was her first quest where she was going to be doing something related to her mastery, scholar work. Apparently the quest giver wanted information on a certain species called the Blood Devil. While Ryse had never heard of the name, she'd become a member of the party partaking in the quest nonetheless. With her she'd brought a notebook and pen, with which she'll be taking the notes she needed.
She may be part Phoenix, and had wings so she could fly, but she was more comfortable traveling by human transportation. Flying meant people could see her. Which meant they would know what she was. Which also meant people would judge her. And she wasn't in the mood to deal with it. Plus using her wings would burn a lot of energy that she'd need for later, if this trip turned out to be dangerous. So she traveled by airship. Being in human form meant others would treat her normally. They wouldn't point fingers or laugh or ridicule her. They treated her like one of them, and that was just the way she liked it.
When she'd accepted the quest, she hadn't known who she would be traveling with. But upon meeting one of the two people, a professor of the school whose name she learned was Mr. Ozaki, she figured out fairly quickly that this trip might be more interesting than she'd thought. The teacher's scent wasn't human, that her sensitive nose could tell for sure. As much as she disliked how highly developed her sense of smell was - a trait she'd gotten from the Church Grim half of her lineage - she could admit that it was handy at times. It hadn't been just his scent that told her this, however. The fangs that had shown in the teacher's mouth as he was speaking to her told her that he was some sort of species other than human. Which species exactly she wasn't entirely sure, and that made her nervous. Even so, it had been comforting traveling with a faculty of the school. Ryse had never been outside the Capital region of Mistere before, except when she'd traveled to Eldritch Academy from her home in Hisakawa. At that time she'd only been concerned about getting to the school, not exploring. Having someone with her made the trip less nerve-wracking.
As the hybrid heard a female's voice call out, she looked around the teacher to see a young girl standing there, an overjoyed expression on her face. An eyebrow rose in confusion. Was this the third party member joining them on their quest? Wouldn't it be dangerous for her to go with them? She nearly opened her mouth to ask that same question. Then the scent hit her, and she froze as she looked at the girl, her face paling. It was such a foreign smell, even more alien than the teacher's had been. She recognized it; not in a way that she could recognize the species. But it was the same kind of scent she could pick up when she was tracking a wildcat, or a wolf; it was the smell of a predator. This girl, even though she didn't know what she was, was dangerous. The teacher had that same kind of scent as well, but it was a much milder one, like as if he was a tabby cat and this girl was a tiger. Her canine senses were going off the charts, screaming at her to run run run!! It was only sheer willpower that forced her to remain grounded, shaking a bit even though she wanted to flee as fast as she could.

Ozaki had honestly been keeping an ear out for her, so when he had heard that she was going on a quest to collect information about her own kind, he had of course jumped on that. He had meant to talk to her handler, but hadn’t managed to find time after having been forced to go home to recuperate a couple of days.
The vampire himself wasn’t sure what kind of creature Ryse was. Though she did look a bit familiar, he just couldn’t place where.
Currently he had his ridiculously large umbrella perched on his shoulder to protect against the last dregs of sunlight. He’d just recovered fully a week or so ago from all his burns, and wasn’t looking to get more.
The vampire could see the student start to get nervous in the presence of Nyx. Anyone who knew what she was tended to get that way. He put his hand on Ryse’s shoulder in a subtle gesture of comfort. His smile was wide and genuine upon seeing the bouncy and cheerful blood devil. “Hey there Nyx, this is Ryse Azar.” They had at the very least been able to exchange names while on the airship, his roleplayer would presume.

Nyx could see the confusion on the other girls face and her first assumption was that the other girl knew they were going to the military base to study Blood Devil's and thus rightly wondered why they were bringing one with them. One of her kind being raised by non-devils, was actually incredibly uncommon, so she couldn't blame such a confusion from arising. However, confusion quickly gave way to a fear she was used to facing, so the other girl must have assumed she was a child before something changed the frightened ones mind on that. Blue optics looking at the girl shake, brought up a feeling she had not possessed regarding other's fear before, instead of feeling bad something about it suddenly felt right as if that was the way things were supposed to be. Oh, Nyx was so happy they were going to see other Blood Devil's today, maybe she would finally get some answers as to why her feelings and urges had suddenly started to shift and well up the way they did.
For the moment she chose to ignore the other girls fear in favor of the reunion with Yuuki, giggling a little bit as she grabbed one of his hands. "As Mr.Ozaki said I'm Nyx, now let's go!" she would start moving and with her strength if she did have the males hand still, he best be following the little devil considering how powerful her body was. This may seem like an idiotic or simple mission to some, but she couldn't help the pure excitement she felt at the prospect of finally getting to see what others of her own species were like. Growing up, she never felt like she missed anything for being raised by a human, but now she couldn't help but wonder what her heritage was like, just had to find out. "I'm happy they sent you, the idea of meeting other Blood Devil's for the first time is actually rather nerve wracking, I mean they don't know about me, the pacifism and such." Nyx wanted to see what her kind was like, that meant also not letting them know she was different from them out of the gate which could alter their behavior, it was like watching a wild animal in its natural habitat. "I don't know how they'll greet me." little did she know, the method would be rather unpleasant for a pacifist, little to anyone's current knowledge, Blood Devil's greeted each other most times with combat.
The ferry ride to Bracklethorn island would be a short one, the ferry barely populated due to it being the end of the day anyone who was returning to the island from the mainland or vise versa for work or such had already done so. "That's it..." her voice trailed off as the ferry docked, the military base looming several feet away. For several moments? Nyx would stand on the ferry, gathering up the courage to disembark knowing the very next stop contained other Blood Devil's, the reality of what she'd decided to do settling in. Walking a step behind the other's, she looked around the seemingly average island as they walked the path to the base, her eyes drifting to the sky where she could see several figures flying overhead, possibly her own kind. "You think the ones in the sky are?" it was a military base obviously other species existed here, plus the civilian fishing villages, but if one watched the sky it almost looked as if they were fighting up there, which furthered her ideal they may be devils.
"Welcome To The Bracklethorn Military Base!" the voice was high pitched and small, but no one was immediately visible as if whoever spoke happened to be invisible. "You three are the one's from eldritch academy right?" on the second utterance, a fairy grew in size before them to be more visible to the larger species surrounding him, landing with dragonfly wings folding against his back. "I'm Jace, I'll be your tour guide for the evening. Now, there are a few things to go over before we go to see the Blood Devil Troop." there had to be at least a few safety rules before someone went running into a barracks full of creatures he knew were in the process of tearing each other apart as they spoke. "Firstly, you will see other species within the barracks likely with blood devil fangs in their neck at this time of day, these soldiers are in no danger but rather are the feeding partners of the Blood Devil's biting them, they won't just suddenly bite you as they've had years to gain control of that impulse and are really only interested in the partners they've found taste best to them for feeding purposes, but if you offer they will bite." The tour guide would never admit it, but learning just how picky a devil could be about the blood they actually drank for food instead of simply wishing to consume it was surprising. "Second, you will more than likely see blood while you're here, we really can't avoid it considering the troop you came to observe spends half their off duty day or more killing each other, repeatedly and when they die the old body dissolves into blood." Forewarn the facility member and students of what they were about to see, encase anyone was squeamish. "Third, Do Not Take The Blood, She's an exception as another devil they won't care what she does with it, but in terms of outsiders trying to clean up or otherwise take their blood they can become aggressive." now finally they had one final bridge to cross before he could take them on the tour. "Lastly, if they do lunge at you, they will be tranquilized, this is safe, but please just don't act in anyway as if you want to fight them, they will fight you if they think that you want to. Any questions?" if no one asked anything, the male would than lead them towards a large building in the corner of the base.

Ryse was pulled out of her terror-filled thoughts by the hand the teacher put on her shoulder. She blinked, realizing that she'd been staring at the girl for far too long, and tried to calm herself down by taking deep breaths. Breathing in, letting it out slowly. The girl may smell dangerous, but she'd only met just met her. She seemed friendly enough, and the fact that the professor greeted the girl with a smile meant he didn't believe she was a danger to himself. Which meant that Nyx wasn't a danger to herself either. Maybe.
She gave a shaky smile as Nyx introduced herself. "H-hi. I'm R-Ryse, like the... um... professor s-said." She wanted to facepalm herself in embarrassment. She was never this rude to anyone. And she never stuttered like this ever. Why was this time the exception? Because the girl smelled weird? Almost everyone in the school smelled strange to her. This girl just.... smelled stranger than most. Yeah. Yeah that was it.
The teenager walked along the two as they trio continued on their way. It was obvious that the two were friends, judging by the way they interacted with each other. She smiled a little as she looked at them, beginning to calm down. Her senses were still screaming at her, but she was trying to convince herself that the situation was safe. It had to be. The teacher wouldn't act this relaxed around someone that was dangerous. Right? Right?
"Sorry for... um... staring... like I did. You just- you smell different from uh.... other people. And I've never met someone who has b-bat wings before." A very small understatement on her part, but it was the best explanation she could give.
Then she paused. What was it Nyx had just said? She was going to meet other Blood Devils? Other ones? As in, Nyx was one too?
"You're a Blood Devil as well?" The question was asked in a tight voice. The world seemed to tilt sideways as the realization hit her like a ten ton weight. Nyx was a Blood Devil. They were currently heading to an island full of the species. And if being around one of them sent her senses flying off the rails, what was going to an island full of them going to do? Full of beings that smelled like predators that wanted to eat her alive...
And NOPE. Not thinking about that.
She hurriedly shook her head to clear the thoughts away, gritting her teeth. Fear coursed through her, but she focused on taking deep breaths. The alternatives to that was having a panic attack, and considering that she'd nearly had one already, having one now wouldn't help her case. She said she would complete this quest, and that was what she was going to do. Besides, what was it that Oras had told her? She needed to stand up and face her fears, instead of running away. No matter how much she wanted to do exactly that at this moment, she knew that she would only be taking a step backwards if she did. She only hoped that the others were as friendly as Nyx was.... Nyx said she was a pacifist. No fighting. Which meant hopefully no violence. Which also meant no danger. Hopefully.
This thought was running through her head as they took the ferry ride to Bracklethorn Island. Upon arriving at the base, however, that hope was shattered. Looking up at the figures flying overhead that Nyx had pointed out, her keen eyesight could tell that they seemed to be indeed fighting. Then the fairy landed and explained the rules. That there were creatures which the Blood Devils would be feeding off of, something that turned Ryse's stomach inside out just thinking about. That they would be actively fighting each other or killing each other, so they would see lots of blood. And finally that with the exception of Nyx they weren't allowed to take the blood. Something told Ryse that this quest was much different than the one she'd initially thought she was signing up for...
When they reached the final bridge, the fairy gave them one final rule. To not act like they wanted to fight the creatures. That if they lunged they would be tranquilized. The teenager, who was now thoroughly disturbed, hurriedly shook her head. She was too scared to even think about trying to fight a Blood Devil, let alone an entire group of them. Ryse took yet another calming breath, letting it out slowly. She was here to do a job. To gather information about this species. She didn't know if they could smell fear like she could, but she didn't want to test that method. She needed to be calm. Showing fear would likely provoke them.

He couldn’t help but smile a bit when she said she’d never met someone with bat wings. Funny, considering he had a pair of them himself. They were just not currently summoned. The smile quickly faded in the reminder that she was this nervous.
Ozaki himself could not smell fear as much as Ryse could, but he didn’t need to with how she was acting. Her fear was clear as the expression on her face and the keen in her voice. He had to admit that part of him was getting a bit nervous as well. But the thing he would do his best to keep in mind was that this was a military base. They were soldiers, not animals. “Everything’s going to be okay. If you’re not sure you don’t have to go in. We can go back and drop you off at the ship.” He spoke quietly so only she could hear, not wanting to embarrass her if she chose to stay.
Odds were it would throw a bit of a wrench in the tour plans. But he couldn’t just leave either of them alone. Ozaki had a duty to maintain as the faculty member on this mission. He had to be there to make sure they were safe.

In spite of everything, the girl had not been afraid herself very often in her life and seeing the fear so thick from the other girl was beginning to make her question why that was. Even back when she was surrounded by a group of older peers set on beating her within an inch of her life for being what she was? Fear had not been what she felt those years again, instead back than what she had felt disturbed her, because she only felt a thirst for blood. Brought back to the current moment by the embarrassment she offered the best reassuring smile that she could provide, it was no fun to be entirely awkward or afraid in this sort of fun event. "Yeah sadly I have found no way to retract them and I'm not even sure if I can do that." she guessed that would be one of the first questions she would ask once she had the attention of completely mature Blood Devils who had the benefit of being raised by their own kind. "Considering that I guess the horns are a bit uncomfortable too?" she spoke gently, taking a finger tip to each and carefully manipulating them until the horns had bent underneath her hair resembling a circlet made of bone instead of horns. "That's as much as I can do for you, sorry." she was used to adjusting herself occasionally to not disturb others so much, she spent her entire life changing her own personality. Where had that thought came from? She was exactly who she wanted to be, there was no way she wanted to be like the typical blood devil was rumored to be.
"Yeah, though I was raised by a human so I don't know what my own are like." Askel had not liked talking about the nature of other Blood Devil's with her unless someone else mentioned the feature first, the only thing he ever wanted to talk about was how to further her pacifism. Now that she really thought about it? For the first time she had the inkling that it was weird for some random human to adopt something like herself only to try to turn them into a complete pacifist, Askel had to know more about the time before he adopted her than he let on. Maybe he had been friends with her parents and watched as someone found a way to actually kill a Blood Devil for good? Nah, she was sure he would have told her by now if he knew anything about her past.
Listening to the safety rules and such was making her even more nervous wanting the fairy to get on with it already, and quickly unnoting of the fact Mr.Ozaki may want to pull out one of the students the fairy did indeed move on with the tour. Jace opened the door into the building, taking a step back when there was actually already a Blood Devil on the other end, several others behind that one. He barely had time to get out of the way. "And with that our tour start is delayed until the devils are done greeting each other, you two may want to get back." he sounded like he was sassing the small group walking out, motioning towards a nearby bench slightly away from where the devils who had been flying now had begun taking perches in the tree's, giggles coming from them, blood from their fights dripping to the ground.
Nyx was confused to say the least when suddenly the outdoors which had been empty expect for the sky was suddenly filled with devil's in the tree's and several leaning against the front of the building, they seemed to crawl out from everywhere all of a sudden. "What do you mean gree-" her question got cut off as one of the smaller blood devil's, roughly a foot taller than Nyx was, suddenly lunged forward punching the young girl in the stomach sending her flying across the field to slam her back into one of the tree's, blood spraying a fine mist from her mouth at the impact. "Hi, I'm Pai!" now that he was not a blur of motion punching the girl? It was clear to see the other devil was male, dark hair and purple eyes. Blood flowed towards Pai through the air collecting his hand to make a large bow and arrow before he took a well aimed shot at the chest of the other devil. Nyx was barely able to dodge the arrow past the pain ripping through her abdomen from where Pai had punched her, stumbling as she ran to the left to avoid the spikes of blood that exploded off the blood arrow. "I.. I.. I'm Nyx." it had not exactly sunk in for the young girl yet what precisely was going on here. "Nice dodging ability! Let's try this!" quickly all the blood around formed into tiny needles aiming directly for Nyx and while she dodged most of them, several cut into her skin. "Why do you only dodge?!" he was quickly becoming irate as every single attack he flung at her from ground or sky ended up getting dodged and she never ran in close to try to attack him. "Fight back damn it, why are you teasing me!" he was now fully enraged mummering gibberish after he spoke, a large spike of blood coming up through the bottom of her foot only not impaling it because of Nyx taking flight the second she felt it, frightened not understanding what was going on.
As the fight dragged on, Jace seemed to be staring is disbelief and while the other devil's whom at first very much enjoyed the show now seemed to be slipping into confusion and realization. "I thought it was just a joke. One of us can't be pacifist, right? It's not in our nature." you could hear them start to whisper such things. "Hey, should we do something? If she's not playing... than this isn't even a fight..." but interfering wasn't in their nature, so all of them remained frozen.

Ryse's fear went away some as Nyx spoke to her, saying that she wasn't able to retract her wings. That was fine with her, she didn't want the other to change herself just because she was uncomfortable. It would be like cutting off her own wings to hide the fact that she was part Phoenix. Upon seeing the Blood Devil change the shape of her horns, however, the hybrid looked at her in curiosity. Well, that was certainly interesting. She wondered if just Nyx could change the shape of bone, or if others could do the same. "Have you always been able to do that? Change the shape of your horns?"
The teenager listened as Nyx told her she was raised by a human, and that she had no idea what her own kind were like. So she was an orphan, then. The thought made Ryse a little sad. She could understand wanting to know about her own species. She herself didn't know about Church Grim even though she was half of one; her mother has never told her about them. But that was why she was doing her own research at the school. She wanted to know more about them, and to know how she was created if both her parents were phoenixes in the first place. "My mother raised me. My father left when I was very little." Even though she was nervous, she placed a hand on Nyx's shoulder, giving a small smile. "I um... I hope this goes well for you. Meeting the others." She could understand why Nyx was so excited now. Being able to have the answers the child probably had wanted to know for a long time was something she herself was craving for. If it was her in Nyx's place, she would no doubt be just as happy.
When Mr. Ozaki suggested they go back to the airship, Ryse shook her head. "Thank you professor, but I'll stay." She whispered back. Was she nervous? Yes. Was she scared? Without a doubt. But taking calming breaths was helping a lot, and now that she knew exactly why Nyx was so happy to be traveling here, she couldn't ruin this for the other student. She would push through and hope for the best.
Upon reaching the building, her senses were assaulted by an almost overwhelmingly strong scent of Blood Devils. At the fairies' suggestion, she headed over to the bench and sat down. She made a mental note to herself: Bring a clothespin for her nose. Maybe that would help the next time she had to do take notes on a species such as this one. She now knew what a Blood Devil smelled like, at least. It was quite unmistakable.
At seeing Nyx be punched she stiffened, her eyes widening in concern. Jace had told them that Blood Devils fought and killed each other, but Nyx hadn't been like them from what she'd seen. She was nice. Ryse fidgeted with her pen and notebook nervously. She wanted to help! Or say something at least! Seeing the girl be attacked and brought into a fight so swiftly made her want to jump in and stop the fight. But she knew if she did that the other devils might think she wanted to fight. Which was something she did not want to do. Besides, this was normal for them, according to what the fairy had said. She could do nothing except watch the battle.
And since she couldn't help in the fight, she decided to try and learn as much as she could from what she was seeing. They could manipulate blood into different shapes, it seemed like. That was something she hadn't known before. And they were fast. Faster than she was. They were trained to fight, and were experts in it; which made sense considering they were in a military base. It meant they were soldiers; highly trained ones at that. If Ryse had decided to jump in, she knew she wouldn't have stood a chance against them. Her own fighting skills were poor compared to the Blood Devils she was studying. And since her fire was weaker now that the sun was going down, she really couldn't help.

He was glad when the student choose to stay and as she became more relaxed around Nyx. Above all it was important that she herself made the choice to continue, rather than feel she had to.
When shit hit the fan Ozaki was truly taken aback. He had spoken to Nyx’s handler and had heard that this might be a possibility, but did not truly think it would happen so soon. His initial shock stilled him for a few moments, then there was a few more of reaching for a mini satchel on his belt, waiting for the right moment. All the blood devils were distracted by the fight. This could easily be construed as looking for a fight, and could put him in the danger zone for a shit ton of blood devils. But there was no way he was just going to sit back while the student in his charge got killed.
The other blood devil was too enraged to be talked down. Ozaki had to act. Rapidly he whipped the dart out and threw it as the Blood devil. The mark struck true in his arm, and he went down in moments.
After which Ozaki quickly launched into action, summoning his wings so he could fly up to Nyx. Both to be her side in case anything happened, and to command the blood devil’s, and hopefully their hander’s attention. He spoke loudly to ensure anyone in the courtyard could hear hm. “Excuse me everyone. I want to reiterate, since it seems you did not get the memo before we got here, that you are NOT to attack Nyx here.”
He only had three more of those darts left in his arsenal. The process for making these was too blood intensive for any more to be made in the short time he’d been given. With any luck this would be enough to prevent future incidents.
Though now he thought about it, it was possible he might not have to use another one if the tour guide was accurate about how the handler’s would react to the blood devils attacking anyone who wasn’t a blood devil. A bit of taunting might be enough to get them to go for him, and then the handlers would act. Oh hell. He’d call the handlers out there too. ”And that’s to you too handlers, I expect you to protect my charge like you would anyone else, got it?!?”

As Pai kept coming at the younger devil, the other's gathered around came to very quickly realize that what they had been told before the small group arrived was in fact not the huge joke everyone had believed it to be, but instead some insane truth. Clearly, most of the Blood Devil Troop was too shell shocked to even think straight, much less interfere and truth be told the handlers were much the same. In spite of clearly having communicated with the students handler before? None of them had ever actually believed the things Drago had said about his charge, they just sounded too impossible for the species itself. No one was too surprised when a dart interrupted what would have been Pai's death blow against Nyx, though several seemed a bit upset it had been the faculty member to interfere instead of the man just waiting for the handlers with permission to intervene in the scene. Mummers were clearly spreading like wildfire, a few devils even fleeing back inside the barracks, disturbed faces clear around the crowd that did remain. "Alright, that's enough form everyone, apparently Drago really wasn't joking when he informed the base his devil is a pacifist who doesn't even know how to fight." the fairy finally decided to intervene, standing in the middle of the field so all the gathered blood thirsty soldiers could hear him, even if disbelief was clear in the male's voice.
Tugging on Yuuki's hand, Nyx would point to the ground and move to land herself doing so shakily the little devil's gaze shooting around the clearing wondering if the other devil's would attack her like the male had. "I..Its alright." her hand touched to some of the numerous scratches she had littered across her body, fingers tracing them in a self soothing motion. "They just didn't know. Suppose me being a pacifist really is as unusual as other's reactions make it out to be." hopefully she wouldn't have to go through that again while they were here, it had been incredibly distressing, honestly she didn't know if her body could withstand another assault like what Pai had done to her, the girl was sure she would need to be bandaged up soon. "So is that how all Blood Devil's greet each other?" she turned to an older female standing nearby, blood red hair and pink eyes, as most of the other blood devils had taken a few steps back away from her, as if she was diseased or something.
"Yeah, it typically lasts until one of us temporarily dies, than it's up to the loosing devil on if it continues." the expression on the red haired devil's face made it painfully clear she was still deciding what to do with Nyx, how to handle the other Blood Devil even though they were from the species everyone was now staring at the other devil as if she was some foreign species. "Sooo." the tall female teleported in front of them using the mass of blood scattered around the grounds from the fight, staring down at Nyx disturbed expression on her face. "So you only use nonlethal force?" yes, they were going to have to go over this, considering their life style the word pacifist barely if at all in their vocabulary. "No. I don't fight." the other devil blinked absently, still trying to wrap her head around the concept of one of them not fighting, ever. "So you only fight monster's?" this was going to be a rather lengthy conversation because clearly it was next to impossible for the other devil to understand the concept of pacifism. "I don't fight monsters." and as the conversation dragged on, Nyx was beginning to realize that she was a freak among her kind. "So you fight verbally?" the little devil shook her head in response to the question, causing the other devil to move onto the next. "You fight through games?" frowning slightly the response that Nyx would give may even surprise Yuuki to an extent. "I don't play games that have a winner." she even excused herself from gym when only one team could win the game, Askel told her to never give winning a chance, lest it give her a greater hunger than she currently struggled with. After several rounds the red head exasperated asked one last question. "So you just abstain from fighting to fight against the worlds impression of Blood Devil's?" it seemed that they had to find some way that Nyx fought, even though didn't exist, expect against herself. "No, I just don't fight. Period." at this point even the red head stepped back away from Nyx as if she was somehow contagious.
Silence hung for a while in the air, disbelief clear in the mummers passing between the devils gathered around. "Alright, the next part of the tour is inside the building." Jace would lead them inside, trying to brisk over the fact several of the devils were whispering that Nyx was some sort of freak, wondering if she was actually a Blood Devil and how she lived. "This is actually nice, it's quiet and peaceful for once, I think you broke them." in fact what he pointed out was true, instead of feeding or fighting the blood devils appeared to be trying to do the best they could to stay several feet away from Nyx more, they looked entirely freaked out.

Once the fight was over Ryse made her way over to the two, carefully stepping around the other Blood Devils to do so. A worried expression ok her face. “Nyx, are you okay?” She asked in concern, looking over the girl’s injuries. She winced as she saw the multitude of scratches and injuries Nyx had sustained. They looked pretty bad. “I... I can heal your injuries when we get to the building if you want.” While she may not have been able to help in the fight, this was definitely something she could do. She held up a hand, palm up, small licks of blue flame rising from it. “It won’t hurt I promise. Or, at least I don’t think it will. I’m not sure if your species is harmed by phoenix fire...” She didn’t want to accidentally harm the girl any more than she already was.
As they made their way to the building Ryse heard the whispers the others were saying, the murmurs, the name calling. Her eyes narrowed in anger. It was the same kind of things she herself would hear from the other phoenixes. When the other Blood Devils were out of earshot, she said softly to Nyx. “Don’t listen to them. The fact that you don’t fight makes you unique.” She paused then, and rubbed the back of her head, giving a sheepish smile. “If it helps any, my kind thinks I’m a freak too.” Why was she sharing this with Nyx? She’d only known her for a short amount of time. It wasn’t like they were friends. Just acquaintances. Maybe it was because she felt sorry for her. Nyx had been so happy to meet other Blood Devils, only to be shunned because of how she was raised. That’s got to be hard.
At least for Ryse, she’d known since she hatched from her egg that the other phoenixes viewed her as an oddity, a freak.

The vampire was indeed surprised to hear that Nyx hadn’t so much as played a competitive game before. With so far as it had gone, he doubted she had so much as ever played a game of chess before. He’d have to fix that later.
Normally Ozaki would be disgruntled that these blood devils were acting so standoffish around Nyx, but right now he was kind of glad that they were considerably more subdued.
Until walking in here he hadn’t realized exactly how much blood there would be. He hadn’t really been expecting for them to be such messy eaters, to waste so much. Ozaki was doing his best to remain calm in the presence of so much of it. When they had been told not to take or clean up the blood, he hadn’t been expecting it to be an actual challenge. For one, if he needed more of that sedative, all this blood would be useful. Granted, if he needed it the blood devils would already be aggressive.
But it might mean more might come after them. His mind was starting to spin and race in a panic as he started to think of the ways it could go wrong, and the ways to counter that.
His wings were still out, partially unfurled as he walked a little bit behind the two students. It was a gesture that’d be much like holding his hands out behind them, were they not occupied at his belt, where he could quickly grab one of his darts. It was also one that was meant to make himself look a bit bigger than his teenage body would enable him to. To use Ryse’s metaphor from earlier, he was puffing out like a tabby cat.
So distracted was he by his thoughts that he only half heard what Ryse was talking about. The fire immediately caught his attention however, and he beat his wings rapidly, jumping back three feet within seconds, arms held up protectively.
Oh… She was just offering to heal Nyx. Ozaki lowered his arms a bit. “Sorry. Should have mentioned I’m a vampire when we met. Phoenix fire and I don’t really mix… But you can help her if I stay over here.” He felt embarrassed that he’d just reacted on instinct like that. And felt the need to make up the perceived slight he’d just committed. “Its not that I’m afraid of you or anything its just… Yah. You know I’m kinda a freak too for my kind. So I guess we’re all a bunch of fre- Nope. I didn’t mean it like that.”
If he were human he’d be sweating bullets right now, but his nervousness was very clear. All these eyes on them was getting to him. He knew they weren’t really looking at him, but at Nyx, but it felt like it. He had to calm down. He was setting an example here. He was supposed to be the strong one. “I-Its kinda funny actually.” Make a joke. Jokes always help. He said it in a hushed voice though, edging a few feet forward in the hope that not everyone in the room would hear it. “Some people are actually more afraid of needles than vampires, and that’s my preferred way to feed… Don’t tell Dawn that Nyx. I’d never hear the end of it from her.”
He cracked a nervous smile at what he hoped would be something humorous to them.

The building was eerily silent which kind of made all the blood scattered around creepier than it would have been otherwise, considering everyone was staring at them alongside the gore scattered around where they had fought inside the complex. Nyx really wished things would be more vocal since this tour was meant for her to learn more about her own kind, but they seemed determined to simply stare at the 'freak show' or whatever they deemed the trio visiting them to be. "I'm fine with Phoenix Fire it doesn't have any adverse affects on me, considering I can manipulate underworld fire as my talent." Fire that spewed forth from the land of the forsaken dead was some of the most ravenous and destructive fire that existed in the known universe, so it was not difficult for someone able to wield it to have better tolerance for other sources of fire. "But wait until we're a few feet ahead of Mr.Ozaki and my wings are extended to keep it from reaching him." she remembered what the Phoenix Fire arrows had done to Yuuki the last time he'd been exposed to them, Nyx didn't want to see him sustain injuries like that again, at least not when she had someway outside of combat to prevent him from being exposed.
Shortly after Yuuki had his reaction to the ideal of Phoenix Fire being used right in front of him, it seemed the Blood Devils shook our of their stunned state enough to finally partake in events again. "Why does she even need to heal you?" it was one of the devils to the side who had just come in from some sort of combat, large gashes covering his entire body oozing blood, eyes glaring at the younger devil as if she was some kind of idiot. "Are you that averse to even your own blood!" it was laced with absolute disbelief, even tinged with hints of disgust at the idea any existing blood devil would be averse to any form of blood, much less their own. "Just kill yourself already." when the man spoke this, it could so easily be misunderstood considering the way the other devils had been staring at and muttering about the younger blood devil since she walked in.
"You should take your own advice." it was the red haired female devil again, driving a sword directly into the males chest from behind, splattering blood forward, the substance only being stopped from splashing the others by Nyx extending her wings to shield them. When the shade of wings dropped? The male devil was impaled on the blade, clearly dead, his body dissolving into nothing but a puddle of blood on the ground. "Hey I was savoring the bleeding!" yet, his voice came again from a feet away where he stood now bare and in perfect health. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Just put your clothing back on and I'll give you some more wounds." with that comment the female devil tossed his uniform back at him, the other devils laughing happily. Within seconds of him being dressed, the two devils were fighting each other again, behaving as if they were going for the kill with every single strike they made.
Jace clearly rolled his eyes, fluttering his dragonfly wings to make noise for attention. "With that lovely display, lets just go to the mess, it's close to dinner and I know the ferry doesn't serve food." he would again begin leading the way for the small tour group.
When they arrived at the mess the first thing that could be noticed by anyone was that in spite of being reported as the area where all the Blood Devil's of the division consumed their meals, it was stunningly devoid of any blood, it wasn't messy at all. Even though the rest of the complex looked like a war zone? This one area was clear very well cleaned and taken care of, as if it wasn't even for the bloody species. While the temperature across the rest of the complex seemed to be at somewhat of a flux, this room was that perfect warm spring day, not even any scent of blood present in the room. Truly, it was an odd place, the warm scent of freshly cooked food wafting out from the kitchen area making the cozy seating area even more appealing. Instead of things like dining tables or such taking up most of the room? It was actually composed of several little partly walled off area's and a larger spacious almost living room like location. The room certainly didn't look as if it was for ravenously gulping down the blood of slain enemies or something! Instead it was exceedingly comfortable with several other species sitting around the room eating their own meals. "Any questions so far?" the fairy would ask the question as he walked up to the counter and picked up a salad for himself, turning around to see if they needed any help ordering or had any other questions about the tour so far.

Ryse started, the fire extinguishing as she saw the teacher jump back, stiffening as she feared she’d done something wrong. She hadn’t expected such a sudden reaction. But upon hearing his explanation, she relaxed and felt a little embarrassed. “Sorry I scared you, Professor.” She apologized. “I didn’t know that you were a vampire. I promise I won’t touch you with it.” Not that she’d ever think about hurting a teacher, even on accident; it was unthinkable for her.
The teacher’s joke didn’t really make her laugh, but she smiled in amusement at his attempt anyways. She could tell he was nervous; maybe it was one of his habits to joke around when he was nervous. “Why do you use needles?” That was quite interesting. She wondered who Dawn was. The professor’s girlfriend, maybe? It would make sense why he wouldn’t want her knowing that. This was the first time she’s heard of a vampire using needles to feed. She thought they usually used their fangs instead. Which was still a creepy thought, imagining someone biting her to get to her blood.
Thankfully Nyx didn’t seem to be worried with her using fire to heal her, so she waited until the teacher was a few feet away from them before summoning her fire again. She summoned a small flame in one palm, the usual orange fire gaining flecks of light blue in it, the color spreading until the entire flame was that solid color. Then she took the flame between both her hands and shaped it, manipulating it until it covered both her palms. “Please don’t distract me as I’m doing this, okay?” She asked the two politely. Then taking slow, calm breaths, clearing her mind, the hybrid turned to the injuries on Nyx. Closing her eyes, she began working.
Gently passed the flames over the injuries, which would only feel warm but not burning to the Blood Devil, she would pour her own energy into the flames to fix the damage done by Nyx’s opponent, slowly stopping the bleeding and sealing the wounds. Doing this required her to be completely calm; if she wasn’t the fire would go out of control. That being said, she was never in total control over it as she healed. The fire was a living thing. Having a rigid grip on it would cause it to backlash, harming herself; it was the dangerous part about using her energy to manipulate the fire. Too loose of a grip, however, and the fire would go on a rampage and destroy what she was trying to fix, which would no doubt be very painful for Nyx. For her, it was more like a dance in which she and the fire were both partners. She was only taking the lead, guiding the flames where they needed to go, working with them instead of against them. It was easy to destroy with fire. It was an entirely different thing to heal with it, and thus it was much more difficult.
It also required her total concentration to do this, so her entire focus would be on this task. She wouldn’t notice the statements being made, nor the demise of the Blood Devil that spoke, or Nyx raising her wings to shield them from the splatter of blood that resulted from it. She didn’t even notice when the Blood Devil that had died reappeared in a different spot as though nothing had happened, continuing to fight. She was only focusing on the injuries she was healing. When she finally pulled her hands away, flames flickering and dying out once again, there would be no blood or pain, only a visible line where the injury was.
“I think that should do it.” She said, blinking open her eyes. It would be noted that she would seem more tired than before. Healing always made her tired, since she was literally pouring her energy into the flames she used to fix injuries. She was more adept at healing smaller and less life threatening injuries, but she could use it on serious ones if she needed to.
As she followed the tour guide to the mess hall, she was pleasantly surprised. It was far different than from what she’d expected. She felt more at ease here than she did in the open courtyard. The smell of food wafted over to her, and she almost began drooling as a result. Food sounded good right now, as her rumbling stomach would agree. At Jayce’s question, she turned her attention to the fairy. “Are all of the Blood Devils here part of the military? Or do some have other jobs, like hunting monsters and Shades?" It may not be the most in-depth question, but she it was something she'd been wondering.

“Oh I’m not a professor, I’m an inventory manager.” He said when she had called him a professor. It was a common mistake for students to assume he was a teacher though. He’d be flattered if he weren’t wishful if the idea of being a teacher for real himself. But talking in front of a crowd had never been his forte. Ozaki was a far cry from the charismatic, sexy vampires books and movies liked to rave about.
“Just not a fan of shedding blood.” He replied to her question of why he used needles.
In hearing the blood devil telling her to kill herself Ozako could feel the beginnings of a growl climb into his throat, but kept it down and kept back from them so as not to be burned by the light of the Phoenix fire. Ryse was utterly engrossed in her healing now. She didn’t even react when the other blood devil killed the other and cast all that blood around. Ozaki, meanwhile, had his hands in one of the many attached pockets on his belt, holding a dart just in case.
Anger started fermenting in his gut as they walked through. Just as they made it to the door to get out of the main room he allowed himself to lag even further back. They’d be safe with Jace. And even safer given how intimidated the blood devils were of Nyx. When he got to the door, rather than going through it he shut the door quietly, and waited five seconds. Ozaki didn’t want Nyx to see him like this. When he turned around he looked upon the blood devil’s with his father’s eyes. Eyes full of righteous fury, the grassy green morphed into steel, leveled right at the battalion of blood devils.
He padded further into the tool to be sure they could all hear him, raising his voice and spreading his wings to their full length. For once his voice was lacking in any stutter whatsoever as he took no effort to restrain the temper he had gotten from his father. “You know, Nyx came here because she’s never been amongst her own kind before. If I had known the kind of reception she would received here would be worse than the one she got daily on the streets, I never would have been okay with this. She came here to learn what it means to be a blood devil. And you... you people should be ashamed of yourselves right now. If we come around here again, I expect you to be on your best blood devily behavior. Whatever that means. And that includes not trying to kill her or ridicule her for not immediately understanding a life she has never known. I’ve seen humans on the streets who treat her nicer than you did just now.”
