welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

On top of one of the flat towers, Oras Auro sat in a meditation position. Eyes closed, resting on the ground. No breath entering or leaving his body... Or so it would seem. In reality his body was moving at 0.001% his original speed. While his mind was moving far far much faster. A strong breeze blew around him in a circle, it's radius covering nearly all of the tower's floor save for the edge. The wind was not strong enough to push people out of the way, but enough to ripple one's hair and cause it to flow, as well as do the same with one's clothing. The air was also chilled, with flakes of snow gliding in a circle around Oras. A ritual circle of ice lay on the ground, though the ice was too thin to slip on. A soft blue glow hung around Oras as he sat there. There were two Eldrich Academy guards standing there. They didn't seem hostile or on edge. In fact, they seemed rather calm.
Anyone with magical capabilities who emerged on the rooftop would understand why this was the case.
Anyone caught in the wind would feel everything seem to slow down. Their emotions, their thoughts, their anxieties, their fears. Everything would seem to slow and calm. It would be easier to notice the more simple things around them. An example being that one who tended to forget about the stars in the skies would notice them in all their splendor. Or the sight of the land from this height under the light of the moon. And in all of this. Oras sat silent as the grave in the center of it.
Too bad he'd be interrupted since word had reached Inglisse that there was an interesting phenomenon being caused by her summoned Atranoch on one of the towers of the academy.

Inglisse had been informed of the strange phenomena happening atop the Sage tower, the authority figures of the campus linking it to the atranoch she had summoned months ago. Not wanting to react too quickly nor seeing any real harm being done, the faculty simply alerted the summoner and asked she take care of it. If not, or if there was something wrong, the faculty would then step in.
It was not the first time Oras had caused trouble for the academy, but at least this time he was not causing fights that would land them both in detention. Quickly meandering through the green halls of her dorm, Inglisse hurried to the staircase that would take her to the roof. She saw no need to use magic or some talent to fly or transport herself up to the roof. The climb up the stairs would be enough; nothing special was needed. Of course, due to her lower physical stamina and weak physical condition, the girl took a few moments to catch her breath before opening the door that would reveal the rooftop to her.
The atmosphere was calming despite the swirling ice and wind. The frost coating the surface of the roof was hardly anything she was able to fear slipping on. In the middle of it all, Oras was sitting down. “Your snow and ice is causing quite the fuss,” she commented with partial amusement, walking towards him at a relaxed pace.

Oras had been meditating for only about an hour in real time. But in his mind it had been a grand total of one week. One could say he’d entered his mind palace to speak with his memories, quite literally in fact. While his first summoner was dead in the real world, his friend was still alive and kicking in his mind. They’d been having many discussions as of late about a variety of matters. The more recent ones being about Oras and his new summoner. The fact that the guards watching Oras said nothing helped with his meditation, but when inglisse stepped onto the roof and spoke towards Oras, it disturbed his meditation. In his mind he heard the voice echo from all around him as he sat in the massive meadow and fields along the country side with his friend. Oras looked up at the sky and chuckled.
“Guess that’s my cue… I miss being with you. Even in my meditation it’s not like it was back then.” His first summoner laughed and smacked Oras’ shoulder. “That’s because you’re still holding onto me! Though I’d be careful how you explain this to her, as telling her you talk to yourself wouldn’t be the best move on a girl.” Oras blushed fiercely, his face turning pale white. “S-Stop teasing me man!” He grinned. “I’m not! You’re teasing yourself ha ha ha!” Oras gave a frustrated sigh as he forced himself to calm down. “…Listen, before I go… What’s your answer to my question earlier?” His friend placed his arms behind him, supporting his body as he leaned back. “Hmm… Well, despite whom she’s related to, and how cold she’s been. I say give her a chance Oras. Research isn’t conducted for the sake of research, there’s always a goal. An objective. Take the time to learn what her objective is. Take time to learn who she is deep down under the shell she’s made for herself. She kind of reminds me of you. Wearing a mask, hiding behind a shield. Protecting yourself from the outside world. Give her a chance.” Oras sat there silently as he nodded with a sigh. “…Alright… I’m still not going easy on her though.” His friend laughed and nodded before standing up. “Well, that’s it for us then. Your trance is about to break now. Go get her tiger.”
“Damn it Zain stop it!” he said before he left the world. Though technically it was a world he fabricated within another world of his fabrication. The one he returned to was his ‘mind palace’. And from there he withdrew from his mind soul and spirit, back to his body where he opened his eyes. He smiled and replied to Inglisse. To her eyes: only a full second had passed. “I don’t see why it would. It’s not harming anyone, not damaging anything. And these people have seen far stranger events than a gentle breeze with some snow drifting along it’s currents. Come on, sit down. It’s quite peaceful up here. A nice place to get away from all the distractions and the chaos.”

“Exactly my thoughts,” Inglisse agreed for the most part, taking a few more steps towards him. Not everyone had seen stranger events, however. The ice and wind were not harming anyone, but she could at least understand why they would be alarming to any normal student or faculty member. Those who were not used to rarer or uncommon species, or various forms of eldritch energy, tended to get jumpy over little things. She decided not to go into that, assuming it was for the better to allow him to believe people had seen stranger things. The academy life could get rather dull at times, though. Mystopolis maintained a decent status quo.
He then invited her to sit with him. The blonde hesitated briefly, before deciding to join him. She had been hard at work for the last few days, dedicating her research efforts to the study of vampires. She needed to find a cure for vampirism, and fast, before her own lasted for much longer. Inglisse had done a decent job at hiding it, but it would only be a matter of time before it was more evident that she had been infected. Gracefully, the girl took a seat next to Oras, amber eyes scanning the city horizon. She nodded at his words stating that it was peaceful up on the rooftop, but had nothing to add.

The glacier atranoch remained quiet as he waited for a response from her. After a moment’s hesitation she seemed to accept his offer and approached him, the silver haired boy smiling as she did so. As she sat down, he conjured a seat of ice that would be surprisingly comfortable for her. It wasn’t a full on chair, but it would be a nice replacement for the stone floor. Oras didn’t mind of course, he didn’t have nerves like they did. He remained quiet for the longest time as he closed his eyes and simply rested there. The soft sound of the wind brushing past them. The soft light of the moon and stars shining down upon them. The sight of the forest and mountains nearby, as well as the city in the distance. It was a wonderful sight to behold for certain. After a very long pause he finally spoke, opening his eyes. “I assume you’ve been awaiting me to ask my question correct? I hope I didn’t upset you back then when I decided against asking you then and there.”

“Patiently awaiting, and mentally preparing for whatever threat is to follow,” Inglisse answered bluntly, not looking back at him as she responded. Her amber eyes stayed fixed on the horizon, taking in the city lights and the soft light from the moon and stars. He had not upset her by refusing to answer. Instead, it only annoyed her. It always felt like there were double standards when it came to him, thus another reason she did not push to ask questions or get to know him unless she needed to. Inglisse simply anticipated him losing his temper once more and seeing much more hostile ice, unlike the fairly comfortable ice seat he had created for her.

Oras gave a slight chuckle. Half humorous, and half ashamed. “Yeah, I haven’t given that good of an impression thus far have I?” He fell silent for another period of time before continuing. “I know my apology doesn’t mean much anymore after the first few times, but. I am sorry for freaking out like that. I have scars of the past, and without my old friend, I’m.. Reactive. I feel vulnerable without him by my side, not that this is an excuse. But, I’ve taken some time to think about it. I’ve gone about everything the wrong way so far… I plan to change that, if you will give me the chance.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “Though you don’t have to tell me for me to know that it’s going to take more than one or two times to prove to you that I’m telling the truth. Even still, for what it’s worth I promise not to threaten or attack you unless you do something unspeakable… Which I don’t believe you will.”

Inglisse listened in silence, her amber gaze on the city lights in the horizon. His words fell on unbelieving ears. At least he acknowledged that his words were no excuse and would not sway her to believe him. He fortunately still had the chance, as she had not sent him away. Besides, she was not scared of him. It was more of an annoyance if anything. If it ever went beyond a threat, she knew he would fail to kill her and she would have means of defending herself. That was one reason she kept her talents a secret, just in case she ever needed them to defend against his powerful ice.
He made another promise, this one not to threaten or attack her again. It would indeed take more than just a few instances for her to believe the promise, as Oras seemed to have a track record of doing the opposite of what he said. He of course added a catch-- unless she did something unspeakable. That would vary, seeing as the two had very different ideas of what was right and wrong. However, more surprisingly, he stated he did not believe she would do something “unspeakable”. She was certain she could prove him wrong on that, but at least his trust was a good thing. It hopefully would mean he would not go prying into her book or research too much out of suspicion.
Amber eyes traced up from the city horizon to the stars and moon above. “I’ll hold you to that promise,” she stated simply, with an edge of doubt in her voice. She partially believed he would prove his words untrue within the next few minutes. That was what happened last time, after all. He had told her to promise she would reach out to him and tried to convince her that she could trust him, only to threaten her with ice and frost moments later. Would he still ask the question he had wanted to ask her back then, which would likely lead to another hostile encounter? She mused quietly, keeping herself closed off and not adding anything more to the conversation.

He could hear the doubt in her voice, but if they were being fair he’d earned it. Oras chuckled and nodded. “I’ll earn your trust and respect one day. But this time, not through force or impatience. Just be patient with me.” He turned to look at the two guards. “…What are you two brain dead morons still doing here? Get out of here, you clearly don’t have anything to worry about… Idiots.” The guards rolled their eyes but walked away. More so they could do something of importance rather than because he said so. Rolling his eyes he waited until they were out of physical and magical hearing range. When he was certain they were he would speak again. “The question I wanted to ask the last time around was.. Well I was hoping to hear what happened to you in more detail. The better I understand your past, the better I can understand you. And maybe it will help me learn ways to assist you in whatever your goal is, which you still haven’t really told me.
“Of course the deal still stands where you can ask me any question about my past and I shall not lie.” The glacier atranoch wasn’t lying of course. He wanted to learn more about her and that was his primary reason for asking her this. He, didn’t fully trust her yet, but in his defense he didn’t trust most people. This was his attempt to practice trusting her. It wasn’t an interrogation. It wasn’t an assault on her privacy. She could deny him if she wanted to and he’d have to learn over time. Though he was hoping they wouldn’t have to go that route.

Inglisse waited in silence for the guards to leave the top after ensuring that she had diffused the situation, or rather, the uncanny phenomenon that they could not easily explain. Finally the question she had been waiting for had been delivered. The simplicity of it made the blonde wonder why he not asked it the last time they were together. Of course, the answer was not an easy on, but Inglisse did not plan on giving details.
“I thought I told you. My family died in an accident, I grew up alone,” she stated without even glancing at him. It answered his nonspecific question. It was easy enough. She had no questions yet to ask the atranoch, however. She had decided to study vampires first and put her atranoch research on the backburner. After all, she had her own vampirism to cure, and fast.

Oras shook his head firmly. “Alright fine I’ll be extremely specific with my questions. I want to know more details, not just a vague idea of what happened. Especially knowing who your related to… You don’t have to answer these questions if you don’t want to, but I’d rather you tell me that than beat around the bush. It’s just as annoying as when I refused to ask my question.” It really was. She knew he could see past these games of hers and it was really annoying when she tried playing it anyway. As if she believed him stupid enough to play along with it. “What caused their deaths? How did it happen? Do you know why it happened? Did it hurt anyone besides your family? Were there any side effects? And… What caused you to dive so strongly into your research. Why do you research the way you do?”

At least he felt some semblance of the annoyance she felt with him that time, or perhaps he felt even more irritation. Inglisse understood that it ruffled his feathers, but at least she dropped the hint more politely than simply stubbornly refusing. Of course, Oras was not one to act politely nor receive politeness.
Of course, his detailed questions were not something she really wanted to answer. She refused to let anyone know about Sacramentum or the little she knew it could do. It was such a vast concept, but something she did not need other people understanding. “The accident was caused by the current research they were conducting. My entire family was massacred, and like I told you before, a foolish person went in and made it worse,” she said. It was still vague, but this was nothing some public records would not say if one dug deep enough. Hopefully the hint would be dropped that she was not about to disclose the greater details. He had no reason to have that information. She had already answer his last question once before and did not plan on repeating it. She was so invested in her research in order to reverse the damage of “the fool”, or unbeknownst to anyone else, the damage she had caused.

Oras listened to her explain to him what had happened, but it was more or less the same as what she told him before. There was an accident caused by their research. Her entire family was killed. And a foolish person had went in and made it all worse. From that information alone, Oras could probably figure out the rest of it by himself… But he wasn’t going to. Not until curiosity drove him mad that is. Instead he’d just smile softly and nod in understanding. “If you don’t want to tell me, you can tell me so directly you know. I’ll respect your wishes. You are my summoner after all.” He looked her in the eyes as he thought about his first summoner’s suggestion… Or rather what his own subconscious believed his summoner would have said in answer to his question. “Listen, you don’t have to tell me for a while what happened. And you don’t have to tell me what it is you really seek. But I would like to learn more about you and come to understand you better in the future. It doesn’t have to be soon, and I’m going to stop pushing for it. Just let me know when you’re ready and we can talk about it.”

His words were curious. Previously, he would force her to speak and answer his questions, often by use of threat or force. Now he was satisfied with straight up rejection? He certainly was an interesting individual. She nodded in silence before he continued to speak. Amber eyes met his ice blue ones, only to break contact in acceptance as he concluded. “Thanks, sounds good,” she noted, with nothing more to add. She doubted it would ever happen. She could never see herself trusting anyone again. Just when she had somewhat trusted him, or thought she could start, he turned on her with ice and threats. With his track record, she did not see the pattern changing anytime soon. In her mind, he could not be completely trusted.

Hearing her reply he would nod to the agreement. “Alright then. Oh, one more thing… Maybe, you could show me what your talent is like sometime? Maybe we can spar once or twice too. Whether it’s to train, or just to have some fun. I don’t know what you enjoy doing besides reading and studying, but. You know, I’m here if your interested.” After she would reply he would look back up towards the starry sky. “If you want to stay here and chat some more you can. I’ll probably be here for the remainder of the night… But I’m going back to guarding your dormitory after this, and I’m not leaving some elementals to guard in my stead. I’m serious when I say your protection and safety is important to me.” He finished with a slight smile. Trying to open up more, and keep himself from being paranoid.
