In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The moment he had gotten off work he had hurried to the library, checking over his shoulder occasionally to see if Nyx was around. She did have a strange propensity for finding him in the most random of places. And he’d rather not have to explain what he was doing in the library researching the underworld when the reason was a gift for her.
Once he got to the library he found the right section, found a few books on the topic, and acquired a seat for himself well away from even the remote possibility of sunlight reaching it. Just in case he lost track of time. Ozaki had brought his umbrella too for extra insurance on that. Internally he was thinking he should probably just go home to read the books. But frankly Ozaki didn’t want to go home just yet. There were distinctly less nocturnal students than there were day-based ones, but even the mild sounds of the library were more pleasant than the alternative.
He opened up The Encyclopedia on Underworld Denizens and started reading.

 The Vamp Wolf  |  It was fair to say that even the naturally people-repellent time of night did not make one any luckier, the tall young man striding into the library clearly not appearing to be interested in borrowing books right now. Not in the slightest, as a matter of fact. The only reason he had come here was because for some mysterious reason, despite the school areas being almost entirely empty right now, some young student had tried to stop him and chat him up, which quickly ended with him giving the excuse he had to go read something. Well, now he had to actually pretend going to the library to make his statement look legitimate, and he did, although there was absolutely nothing for him to do here, unless he decided to pick some books up on spot. Sighing to himself as he glanced around the place, he'd quickly make a different decision after noticing a familiar person occupying it already. While it was exactly what he just went out of his way to avoid, it was still better than being dragged into a pointless conversation with a complete stranger. Some kid nonetheless. Approaching the vampire with his book, he'd offer a questioning glance. "Is this how you spend your nights?" |

Ozaki looked up from a page about Infernal Golems. Apparently they were a good source of Infernal ore. He was currently internally debating how well it would work as a tail guard for Nyx. Maybe if it was plate armor it would be able to move. Chain mail? Could it be configured into that? Would it be comfortable? How sensitive was Nyx’s tail anyways? Maybe there could be some sort of cloth he could pair it with. He had the Steel silk spinner tail guard currently. That wouldn’t be hellfire proof though.
Maybe the ore and something else from hell as a lining for it? He was jarred out of his thoughts by Sharaku’s question. Counter to traditional expectations, he was actually alright with the disruption. If Ozaki wanted to be alone he’d have gone home. “Well there’s work as well for me.” He was a nocturnal creature after all. “But yah. Guess it can be nice to just read for a bit.”
This reading had a particular purpose of course. But it was still nice to go on a research binge like this.

“Well I do have some daylight hours on my job sometimes, particularly in the Summer and Spring seasons. I’ve got my umbrella for those days. But it is mostly night hours, yes.” There was more sunlight during those seasons, thusly sometimes it was impossible to schedule him only for nocturnal hours seeing as the sheer window of time shrank too much to do so. Granted there was of course less need for him in Summer seeing as there weren't as many classes going on, but it was still a factor he had to look out for.
Ozaki put his thumb on the page he was reading and closed the book partially to allow Sharaku to see the cover of it. It read The Encyclopedia on Underworld Denizens New Roman font on a plain red hardback book. There may have been a more interesting picture on the front of the book once upon a time in the form of the paper sleeve that usually went around these. But that had long been lost, discarded, or ripped beyond repair. “Informational ones this time.”

“I’m an inventory manager.” Most of the times Sharaku saw in around the campus it was either because he was on break or dealing with something Nyx related. Sometimes there was something outside of the warehouse that needed dealing with. Most of his job was more revolved around numbers though. The blood drive thing had mostly him doing his own thing though, with school approval of course. He also did take a personal hand in making sure certain things were stocked to the degree they needed to be, making use of his Mastery of Hunting.
Usually it was only blood, but occasionally if his superiors asked it he might have a day or two of “field work” to stock something the school might require.
If they found out he was planning a trip to hell they might actually ask him to bring a few things back. Given the hazard pay for the people who went into hell alone, usually things from the underworld fetched a hell of a price. He opted to give Sharaku a summarized version of his internal rambles.
“Its mostly a job of numbers, but I do some fieldwork for the division since I have a Hunting Mastery… I’m planning on a trip to the Underworld to get something for my daughter. Her talent enables her to produce hellfire, so if I want to get her this one thing, it has to be hellfire-proof. Best way to do that is to get something from the place itself.”
He was honestly still a little giddy that he could call Nyx that now.

“I’m twenty-nine.” Ozaki said, unable to keep a smidgen of annoyance out of his voice at that. He knew it wasn’t Sharaku’s fault that he made the mistake. But it was annoying to have to deal with people always thinking that he was. “Sorry. I’m not annoyed at you for that mistake… Just gets a bit…” Ozaki shrugged off the topic, not sure how to continue the sentence and so opting to desert it instead. “I do have one. Her name’s Nyx, a blood devil I adopted.”
Not officially, at least where the government was concerned. But if she called him her father that was good enough for him to consider it such… He would actually have to talk to Dawn
“Though that is a good point, teaching her that is… I’m not necessarily the best person to teach her. But maybe there’s someone at this school who might know more on the subject.” Nonetheless Sharaku could see Ozaki rapidly flip the page to the index, find the pages on hellfire, and then move towards the largest section on the topic. Hell fire itself might not be a denizen, but it was common enough in Hell that it of course had its own section.
The book was easily about two hundred pages long. Showing that there was either more than you would think “living” in hell, or that the ones that did live in it had a lot to be said on them.

Ozaki wasn’t sure how to take that response in regard to Sharaku’s comment. Was he saying he didn’t act his age or something? Or… Oh. Ah. Well… To say his luck with women was abysmal would be an accurate statement. He was far more likely to be punched by one than anything else. “Well I guess you’re not entirely wrong to have that impression there.” He muttered, a little flustered Sharaku had actually mentioned making kids. Yah… T-that kind of activity wasn’t probable for him any time soon. Not that he'd say that outright to Sharaku.
“As for her age though… Her age is… Complicated… Considering she has at least a ten year span of her memories completely gone.” If not more.
So what he did instead was was pull out his journal from the right side of his trench coat. He unzipped the blood waterproof case protecting it and opened to the pages Ryse had written on.
“From what Ryse wrote in my journal it seems like part of her does know how to control them, and even that part of her says that hell fire is indiscriminate in what it burns.” If he was seeming casual about it now it was primarily because he’d already gone through a big bulk of the freaking out in private. Also Alise had helped him a lot through processing that day. Then there was the fact that Sharaku didn’t seem to take well to big emotional displays, so he was trying to play it a little bit more cool around him. Particularly since he’d made such an idiot of himself the last time the two had interacted.
He wasn’t even sure what to think of the Fluffy part of her that had showed up. Was she of past memories? Or an alternate universe? Whatever the case, it was possible she could show up again. “Hellfire proofing the gift will do well in the meantime, however, if there is a way to train her to control it better.”

The Vamp Wolf | He’d shrug slightly. “Good to know I suppose.” In the end, he didn’t particularly care what people did in terms of their relationships, assuming it did not concern him directly for some strange reason. It was worth noting that the guy did not seem the type to be already settled down, but there wasn’t much more for him to say on that topic unless the other side wanted to continue it.
“….so she’s probably at least as old as you, if not more. Assuming she eventually remembers, unless you’d try to stop that from happening, it’d be rather awkward to try playing her dad.” She acted somewhat childish right now, but that was likely only due to the upbringing she had faced after whatever it was that wiped her memories happened. She was not an actual kid, and he’d frankly consider it a rather weird move to be adopting her despite knowing that. Sooner or later, it’d become a dilemma, and if her original self would end up anything like Fluffy was in that short window of time, she probably wouldn’t appreciate the sentiment that much….
Leaning against the table slightly, he’d watch the vampire look at the journal. “She might be subconsciously aware of a lot, but that means next to nothing as long as she refuses to acknowledge that using any of it is fine. Fire like that has limited use outside of combat situations, and she clearly refuses to participate in those actively. She has to either change her mind, or properly remember whatever it is she forgot.” The latter was probably the only failproof way in the end, and considering that she had already flipped personalities there, it was definitely going to happen in time. “Frankly, I’d say the best way to ‘train’ her would be to find a way for her to simply get her memory back. Then there would be no need for anything else. Talents are rather varied. The chances of finding someone who has the same thing and could thus properly teach her are fairly abysmal I’d guess.”

Thank Carmilla he had dropped the woman thing. Ozaki’s infinite bad luck with women was not something he wanted to talk about. He liked to think that if he had at least been given a chance to grow up he might stand a better chance… But if that had been the case who knew how many other things would be different. Too many for a proper comparison.
Ozaki looked up from his journal, his surprise in hearing that Nyx might be older than him evident on his face. “I… I had not asked.” He always felt a bit weird asking people their ages considering how tricky aging was in general with supernatural creatures. He was a prime example of that. “It doesn’t seem right to stop her memories from coming back just for my own wants… Its probably best they do… I’m just worried…”
Sharaku probably wasn’t going to care much about this. Maybe he should just shut up now.

Ozaki was unable to hide his surprise at hearing her age… He really hadn’t asked. And hadn’t felt comfortable in doing so. Ozaki supposed there was probably a few advantages to just not giving a fuck like Sharaku seemed to. He’d just bulldoze past social conventions and ask.
When Sharaku started going off about his being worried Ozaki brought up a hand and drew it through his unkempt hair. It seemed Sharaku had known this stuff for a lot longer than Ozaki had. And overall had known a lot more about Nyx period about today. The powers that the werevamp had listed off had been entirely unknown to Ozaki. He’d known she was a blood devil and the associated things that came with it… But other than one of the first days of knowing each other where she used that fire of hers, he’d never really seen her in the context of using her talents.
Which obviously Sharaku seemed to have done. Was this coincidence? Sharaku just being at the right place, right time? Or was Nyx hiding things from him? Maybe she was even hiding things from Dawn as well. “A little late for that.” He muttered as he closed his journal and put it back. What was he supposed to say? “I know they’re who she is. And I won’t stop them from returning.”
But he would miss her when this version of her was gone. Sharaku wasn’t wrong about that. Ozaki avoided saying that outloud, however, as he could only imagine it resulting in being more told off than he was already being. He started closed the Encyclopedia he had been reading and put it in the stack of other books she’d been reading. “I should really get going now though.”
