welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

"I guess I'll just call you 'Mr' for now, until I can think of a better name for you." Ryse replied, giving another jaw cracking yawn. When the man left she looked back to the house again. She could still hear the hammering as Oras repaired the hole in the wall. Her thoughts lingered on the man, and his possible identity for a moment longer before she pushed it to the back of her mind. The man had seemed nice. He'd explained many things she hadn't known before.
Like that the Atronach actually thought of her as a friend. Like how she thought of him. She smiled a little as she thought of this. She still needed to think about all that she'd been told. And how best to handle Oras now that she knew why he was acting the way he was.

Later that day.
Oras stood up from his finished work. It wasn’t a masterpiece… Hell it was just a patchup job. He sucked at most things other than combat. He didn’t practice in everything else after all. He really needed to research that alternate eldrich power he and his first summoner thought of. The atranoch walked over to the freezer and took out another piece of ice, popping it into his mouth before closing the door. He took a deep breath and breathed it out slowly. He walked over to the window, peering through it discretely to see if Ryse was still out there… Or if she was heading over. If she was he would walk over to the opposite end of the house.

A while after the mystery man had left, Ryse decided to head in the house. She had to heat the fire again and check to see how the egg was doing. It had to be kept warm. The egg was already bundled up in a blanket, and the air was warm enough already, and the humidity was high enough to make the air seem even warmer than it actually was. But fire was still required. Phoenixes were born of fire. They needed heat to hatch.
"Oras, we need to talk." She said as she opened the door with her paw, walking in the house. She didn't hear any more banging, so she assumed he was done. Looking around the house revealed that the wall was fixed, and the smell of Atronach was still strong. He was here somewhere...

Oras sat in a chair, leaning it back with his feet on a table. He was currently thinking about a possible new talent he could create. Trying to keep his mind off of the events from earlier. The ideas he was having at the moment would require some further study and research though. He couldn’t allow for mistakes, and if done right he’d have endless possible abilities. It had drawbacks of course, but why wouldn’t it? If he was invincible it wouldn’t be fun. At any rate he was still thinking of the very fine details that would bore most human beings to death when he heard footsteps approaching. He sighed before she stepped in. “Oh! Someone’s finally growing a spine! I’d say you grew it back but you’d have to have one in the first place wouldn’t you?”

The fur on the back of Ryse's spine stood up, but she ignored the Atronach's jeer. "I know that you want to push me away, but I'm not budging. I'm still your friend, you idiot." She stated. Changing back into her human form, and wincing a little as she did so, holding her ribs tenderly, she walked to the kitchen and opened the cabinet, getting down a pack of matches.
Walking back to the living room, she struck a match and tossed it onto the fireplace. The tiny flames stirred up, and she stoked the remnants of the log with a fire poker. Once she was sure the fire was flared up, she grabbed a blanket and laid on the couch, curling up. Even though the air was hot she was chilled, constantly shivering. The exhaustion would be clear on her face as clear as the sun shining in the sky.

Oras scoffed at her comment of trying to push her away without her budging. She was right of course, but he wasn’t about to admit to it anytime soon. Hearing her state that she was still his friend did get him a little bit though. Before she left she changed back into her human form, and when she did he noticed her wince in pain before leaving. Oras sat there a bit longer, staring towards where she was. He didn’t move for a long while. Eventually however he sighed and stood up. Walking out of the room he followed her path until he reached the living room. He saw her curled up on the couch, shivering badly. He turned to look at the egg which was staying warm and conjured some ice underneath it. It was the fire based ice, so it would keep the egg warm but not too hot. He then turned back to Ryse and conjured some healing snow in his hands and walked over. He placed the snow on her side over the blanket, and the snow would seep through until it came in contact with her skin. After this he conjured more of his hot ice and placed it on her forehead, as her version of the cold was far different than most mortals. After he did this he turned to walk for the front door.

Ryse had been dozing up until this point, trying to rest and soak up the warmth of the fire. Sunlight would be better, but she wanted to be near her mother in case she hatched. She wasn’t sure how long it would take for her to finish her Trial, but she didn’t want to take any chances. Upon hearing the sound of footsteps nearing her, however, she opened her eyes again.
Raising an eyebrow as the Atronach place the ice under the egg, she didn’t say anything. Other than the fire and covering the egg with blankets, she wasn’t sure how else to keep it warm. They didn't have heaters as there was barely any need for one. She wasn’t even sure if hot ice would work, however it was worth a shot.
Her curiosity rose further when Oras approached her. Snow appeared in his hands, and she watched as he placed it on the blanket over her side, then her forehead. This elicited a small smile from her, despite how bad she felt. The hot ice was merely warm, not burning her skin. It felt nice to her. The snow that quickly melted into her side caused her to sigh in relief. As it made contact with her skin, the pain in her ribs faded away until it was gone. “Thank you.” She replied softly. Normally she would just heal herself, but she wasn’t able to at this time. Not until her fire came back.
“Wait. Why are you afraid of people leaving you?” She then asked before the Atronach could leave, turning her head to look at him. Part of her wondered if he would actually answer the question, though most of her seriously doubted it.
The egg would move a little bit more.

As the snow melded through the blanket and healed her ribs, he heard her whisper the words ‘thank you’ to him. He didn’t say anything, pretending he didn’t hear her. He couldn’t reply to her, not now. He needed to get some space… Whatever she was doing out there, it seemed to have calmed her down immensely. To the point where she didn’t seem to harbor any anger or frustrations with him… Why? What could she have possibly done that would change her mind so quickly? Why would she even change her mind? He exhaled breath as a sigh without making any sound while doing so. As he turned to leave and walk away however he heard her ask him to wait. He stopped dead in his tracks, wondering ‘what now?’. Then she asked him: Why he was afraid of people leaving him.
…..How on earth did she figure that one out? He stood there in silence for a great deal trying to answer that question he just asked himself, until he decided to make it a rhetorical question. It didn’t matter how right now. He couldn’t just deny it, she’d know he would be lying. Regardless of how she knew the truth, she knew it now. Granted she didn’t say ‘why do you push people away’, but the question she had asked him implies that she knew. He really didn’t have any choice he had to answer her honestly. “…I don’t want to be alone.” He said simply. And with that he walked out the front door, closing it softly so she could get some rest. He leaned against the door and closed his eyes. Well…. This had just become a hell of a lot more complicated…

This seemed like quite to Catch-22 that Oras seemed to have put himself in. He was afraid of others leaving him and he didn't want to be alone, and yet because of his fear of hurting others he pushed others away. Didn't he realize that pushing others away will cause him to be alone?
Ryse shook her head. This was a conversation for when the Atronach was back in the room. And when she was more awake. At least he was honest when he answered her question. That was one thing she counted as good about him.
Sighing a little, the teenager snuggled deeper into her blanket. The warmth of the fire as well as the ice on her forehead felt nice to the cold hybrid. Her eyes drooped, and finally closed, and within a few minutes she'd fallen fast asleep.
- - - - - Time Skip - - - - -
Scritch
Ryse heard the small noise through her sleep, and though it puzzled her she ignored it, sinking back into the bliss of darkness.
Scritch scritch scritch
Furrowing her brows this time, she stirred slightly on the couch. The noise seemed to be louder than before. Maybe Oras had come into the house? Was he carving things out of ice again? "Oras, 'm tryn' to sleep." She murmured. "go 'way."
Scritch scritch scritch scritch CRACK
She froze, fully pulled out of sleep this time. Quickly opening her eyes and looking towards the fireplace, her eyes widened as she saw the fiery orange egg she'd been taking care of for the last day or so wildly rocking back and forth, a large crack on its side that was growing larger every moment.
Hurriedly blinking her eyes and shaking her head to get the last of sleep from her, she scrambled from the couch and ran towards the front door, heart hammering in her chest. "Oras! ORAS!! The egg is hatching! Get your icy butt in here!" Hours had passed, and the fire was still going strong. Perhaps the Atronach had used his fire ice to keep it alight. The sun was sinking towards the horizon, casting long shadows into the house. It seemed she'd slept most of the day away.

Oras was leaning against the house wall outside when he heard Ryse start screaming, her voice growing even louder (if that was even possible) telling him she was closing in on the door. The egg was hatching? He fragmented and slipped through the cracks of the door, not even opening it and strode to the living room. “Ok cool, still don’t know how to nurse an egg beyond heating it. We just let her hatch right? And make sure she doesn’t kill herself?” He reached the room and saw the egg cracking slowly… Then a thought had occurred to him. “Heeeey, question. Will she remember everything when she hatches? Or will it take some time for her to remember everything?”

"I think so? I don't know. I've never done this before!" She replied as she rushed back to the egg. Ryse didn't know the first thing about this. Was she supposed to do something? Or was she just supposed to let her mother hatch on her own? Oras had lived for much longer than she herself had. Didn't he know what to do?
At his last question she shook her head. "Well she has to grow up a bit before her memories come back. She won't remember right away. At least I don't believe so." This was all things she'd heard her mother say to her after some of their earlier conversations. "She'll be just like a baby chick at first. It could take anywhere from a few hours to a few days before she finishes growing."
More cracks appeared on the egg, and the scrabbling noise continued. After a few moments there was the tip of a beak showing through the eggshell. Then a tiny 'cheep' was heard.

“Alright, well just leave her be then. I doubt this is her first time going through something like this so she’ll figure it out. Instinct and all that.” He fell silent as he watched Ryse’s mother try and make her way out of the egg. When she mentioned how she had to grow up before her memories came back he nodded with a sigh. “Alright, let’s just… Figure out how to tell her the truth without her murdering me in hot blood. Give me the ok and I’ll go find a meat shield.” He wondered what he should do.. Maybe leave the house until Ryse told the mom and calmed her down? He wasn’t sure… At any rate- His thoughts were interrupted when the cheep was heard, the beak breaking through the shell. Oras leaned over to whisper in her ear. “Ten shards says she’ll trip onto her face soon as she gets out.”

"I think it would be safest if I tell her about it rather than you." Ryse replied quietly, sweat dripping down her forehead as she chuckled nervously, situating herself so she was sitting cross-legged on the floor close to the fire. "Otherwise.... yeah... you'll be a puddle before you can blink." She would rather not have her friend be sent back to his homeland before he was ready.
When Oras bet on her mother falling on her face she lightly smacked his shoulder, smirking a little. "Shut it, ice boy. I bet you 5 shards that she doesn't."
More cheeping was heard, and the cracks grew wider until they covered the entire half of the egg. Small pieces of shell fell to the ground, then larger pieces. Finally a white fuzzy shape broke out, stumbling a little on its tiny legs before finally losing its balance and falling on its stomach. Little golden eyes open and looking around, the bird still cheeping. Ryse smiled and gently scooped up the baby bird, holding it up so it could look her in the eyes. "Hi mom." She said softly. It was really strange calling a baby bird her mother, but, well. That was what she was.
