welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The Vamp Wolf | Huh? Was that actually a thing? Well, the school did have a bunch of professors, but he was sure the students greatly outnumbered any kind of faculty that was employed there. Was it even possible to oversee everyone who wanted to take on a mission? Unless the students all went in big groups at once, but then it would be harder to keep an eye on them anyway, and they would not be able to get a lot of individual experience due to there being too many of them for anyone to get specialized focus both from the faculty in question, and the actual task they were supposed to accomplish. A lot of the jobs he had seen posted up here and there were frankly not large scale enough to enable more than two to maybe five people at most to lift a finger and contribute. It’d be done before they could blink assuming complications did not arise. If they did try to work with everyone however, there was absolutely no way all students could go out on a mission more than once in a blue moon. There were probably at least 50 students per a teacher, ratio wise. And that was him being generous, given that this was the only school of its kind, thus having people from all corners of the world coming in to enroll. The amount of students had to be enormous. He’d give the guy a somewhat sheepish look however. “Is that so? I usually don’t enjoy teachers preaching over me and telling me how to do things, so I never tried to have one along.” Could he have gotten any to come? Who knew, but he had certainly never bothered to attempt in the first place. Oops? Well, that depended on the person looking at the situation, probably. He liked to do things his own way, so there was that. “Well…it’s certainly useful for getting a job to begin with. People are more likely to hire you when they see the paper. I just mean that a certificate isn’t always the best indicative of one’s skills in the end. And having managed to get one can give you a false sense of confidence that you can handle more than you are truly capable of. They churn out loads of graduates every year. That proves it’s likely not that hard to pass and get your license.” You could be great without one and struggle getting a job due to employers being jerks about it, while someone else they took on was mediocre but managed to graduate with a paper. Not to say that it was always like that, but it was very much a possible scenario. |

He definitely couldn’t do this Outreach thing on his own… Hell even if he had the base qualifications of being able to bite people and speak in front of a group of people it would be impossible for just one person to pull off. Sharaku was smart, analytical, that could be useful… But he would likely pick apart the idea the moment it left Ozaki’s mouth. The vampire fidgeted absentmindedly with his hair for a couple of seconds before returning back to grooming the unicorn’s mane.
The vampire glanced over when the werevamp spoke. Ah ha… Of course he’d not brought along a faculty member before. Granted, he was probably well enough off enough that Ozaki couldn’t really say anything against that.
Ozaki had done quite a few odd jobs as a hunter back in school. Frankly those jobs had been a bit easier for him due to the fact that they did not require him to necessarily interview for them. So long as you had at least one person that looked qualified the job poster would take you. “Well one could theoretically make a living off of just the job postings.” Wouldn’t be a very stable or consistent life. And probably very dangerous. And there might even theoretically be times where there were none at all.
How much money would it take to start up an outreach program anyhow? Probably a lot. And he hardly knew the first thing about them. He’d have to research them first, volunteer for a few to see how they did it. Pfft. Ozaki had to wonder what Mordred’s goons would think if they caught a gander at that. Maybe he should start fucking a little with them… He was hesitant to do anything directly to them. But going weird ass places sounded hilarious.
“I know it was a bit tricky for me to get a proper job after college but that was… Because of other reasons... I don’t do really well in interviews.” For obvious reasons. He had definitely been lucky in getting the job he had. The Kitsune had messed with him excessively during the interview, but had nonetheless given him the job.

The Vamp Wolf | “Assuming you’d be able to maintain that without getting constantly swiped. There’s a lot of people taking on those…” There were no reservations, and no securing a good job ahead of time with that method. Not the best way of life for the faint of heart, as it would be a stressful endeavor at all times.
He’d glare at a tangle in a unicorn’s tail as the vampire spoke about job interviews. “…? What do they ask for? What should matter is whether a person is qualified for the job, right?” And well, if you were applying for a position that clearly asked for something you weren’t good at, then trouble ought to be expected. Otherwise, it ought to not be that bad…unless the interviewer thought it was for some reason important to prod for things that weren’t even part of the job description. Which was in a way a little unfair, especially if those things were of the kind one couldn’t control, such as personality traits or the like. Occasionally that might matter some, but honestly, would a shy, scaredy cat person even apply for a job that needed confrontation in the first place? |

“I mean, depends on the job. And not the hunter type jobs. Just like… Regular jobs. Which I suppose of course could intersect of course.” Was he really expected to go through descriptions all the various jobs he may have applied for? Heedless of qualifications his nervous stammering had put off a good deal of them. His current boss had just found it funny as all get out. Plus, like Sharaku had said. He did have the actual qualifications for the job he had asked for.
Even if there might need to be a little bit of training to know how to do the job in the way they wanted it done. “And yah, getting consistent hunting jobs would be tricky. There are some that are repeatable… But even those have their limits.”
Odds were this one was likely one of the ones they could do multiple times if they so wished. At least until the farm found a more permenent solution in hiring new virgin farm hands.

“I swear you’re like a dog with a bone.” He muttered to himself, immediately realizing the slip up of the tongue. “Apologies, I didn’t mean anything by that…” He bit his lip slightly, cursing himself for referencing Sharaku’s werewolf side in anyway whatsoever. That’d been insensitive of him. Maybe Sharaku hadn’t heard though. Okay he had heard the second bit though. Damn it. He focused hard on trying to get a particularly stubborn knot out, avoiding eye contact with the were-vampire.
Just move on Ozaki. Just move on. You’re the one who wants a conversation. If you want that you have to… I don’t know. Contribute something other than insensitive comments like that. That’s how socializing works. “I’m not really great in interviews is all. The military is an option of sorts. You can start at a higher rank depending on what kind of education you have." A college degree could get you to an officer rank immediately.

The Vamp Wolf | Well, he also had a dog's senses so naturally that wouldn't be too hard to hear. They weren't that far from each other. That said, he'd simply snort in response. "Depends on what kind of 'bone' we're talking about...." Or maybe not. "I don't think you would have said it if you didn't mean it in some way....seriously though, you could use a chill pill. I don't know what goes through your head, but you're going to get gray hair early if you get so tense over everything." Personally, he wasn't seeing the problem. Sure, he did poke into things, but more often than not it genuinely wasn't with any malicious intent. Finding the best or most truthful answer often took precedence over sensitivities, in a way. Frankly, in terms of jabs like that....he generally couldn't even try to be mad, given that he was often ready to talk shit about himself first. Nothing wrong about some self-deprecating jokes so...
"Eh...wouldn't being a higher up in military mean more of an office job? Filling out papers and reports behind a desk isn't too appetizing..." Soldiers were the one doing more combat oriented jobs and you didn't need a shiny high rank to do that. Well, perhaps if you wanted to be more in charge, but did that matter for the fighting itself? |

“I don’t think its possible for a vampire to get grey hair. We don’t really age… I mean maybe if going white’s a genetic thing…” His sire had white hair. But he looked too young for that. Maybe he had white hair back when he was human? Or a parental trait had passed on where a vampire’s hair could turn white over time. He grabbed a lock of his hair and studied it for any white threads that might be showing.
Meanwhile Sharaku’s potentially lewd joke flew over his head. “I mean it could be possible I guess…” He hadn’t gotten around to asking what other traits he might have inherited from the man. Granted, by this point it was pretty obvious, if not completely bizarre that this was something that could be passed on. “And maybe. I haven’t done much research on military positions myself since I wasn’t really interested in working for the military.”
He sure hoped he wouldn’t go white haired over time. He would really rather not look like his sire in anyway whatsoever. At least becoming a vampire of this lineage hadn’t drastically altered his appearance. Those of the Nosferatu “family line” did not get the pretty end of the deal.

“Perhaps. Still don’t want to go white though.” Now Ozaki was taking something else Sharaku had said literally. Should he take a chill pill? He could make one right now. At least a close approximation from the sedatives he had in his arsenal. Just a little bit to calm down… Not to knock him our or anything. Just to take the edge off. No… No that was a slippery slope for him. It would be better off not going down it in the first place.
Whether or not it looked good he still didn’t want white hair though. Just as well there wasn’t any there though. He was fine for now. Though that did perhaps bring up the question if there were any other traits he had inherited that might show up later. A question he hoped he wouldn’t have the unfortunate opportunity to ask his sire. If he never saw the vampire again it’d be too soon. Granted he didn’t think he’d be that lucky. Or that smart as to avoid him completely. Curiosity was already getting the better of him.
“Can’t say I’m surprised to hear that…” Sharaku liked questioning things too much to simply accept orders without questioning them.

He supposed he could throw the were-vamp a bone without much risk. “Aaah… Sorry. Its just my s… My sire has white hair and it’d be a bit… Awkward to look like him. But you’re totally right. I could dye my hair so it doesn’t really matter.” He’d of course prefer not to have to. But in this respect Ozaki could get over himself. In regards to meeting his sire for the first time in fifteen years maybe not.
“I should go get a new unicorn.” He said, deciding maybe he would get something to calm him down at least a little bit. Ozaki was even more on edge than usual, and Sharaku didn’t share any of the blame in that. Might as well not bother him with how neurotic he was being right now. Was neurotic the right word? Well he was freaking out about white hair soo…. Ozaki started leading the unicorn out of the stall, of course grabbing his umbrella on the way.

The Vamp Wolf | “….or just like anyone with white hair period.” While not a natural human hair color, there surely were plenty people of other species who had white hair. Having a certain hair color didn’t make you look like someone, unless you wanted to claim that you thusly resembled all other people who had the same color. On its own, it only meant something if you convinced yourself it did. What if he already had white hair for some reason before becoming a vampire? Immediate catastrophe because they shared an arbitrary physical trait from the start? Honestly some people….in his mind, that type of thing just wasn’t a fucking issue at all, because it had no reason to be unless one had a complex of sorts. And as much as he tried, he kind of didn’t see it…it was so easy to find reasons for it to not be a problem if only one put their mind to it instead of focusing on fretting…
Not wanting to get into a discussion about such a thing however, he’d kind of resort to just shrugging after his initial comment. “…while you’re there, you could take a moment to count how many we have left still. It’d be nice to know.” It was much easier to do that when you were close up with them than from a distance. Speaking of close up, the unicorn beside him was clearly interested in being so, as it kept trying to tug at his shirt for some reason… |

Good, he thought as he walked out with the unicorn. Extra time to be sure whatever he picked took effect before he got back. He had a few of sedation type things in his arsenal. Ranging from reasons of he’d wanted different things for different scenarios, and he himself had had to be put down with one of them at a time. That was a loooong time ago though. His talent didn’t have an expiration date thankfully.
Right…. There was one that would work good to calm him down at a lower dose. How much though?… 60 milliliters ought to work. That was a bit heavier on the side of light. But he was freaking out about white hair right now… And this was him when he was “calm.”
When he got outside he let the unicorn go and palmed out of the darts in his right pouch, glancing at it and watching the colors shift as his talent working away at it. 60 milliliters of the sedative, then the rest of it a harmless saline solution. He could have kept the rest of it as his blood, however some of the blood in these darts wasn’t the freshest, so this was a better option. He injected the sedative directly into his neck. If he were human this would be stupidity at its finest for many things in his arsenal- if he had literally any other choice in the matter. But as a vampire some measures of safety could be bypassed.
He made sure his hand veiled the dart in case Sharaku came out with his own unicorn, then slipped the now empty one into the left pouch. As he started counting the unicorns that they still had yet left to clean he felt one of them nuzzle up to him. One of the ones that still needed to be cleaned.
“Aaaah. I see we have a volunteer.” He snorted, finding that funny for some reason. He had to be sure that the unicorn’s nuzzling did not move his umbrella’s position from blocking the sunlight. Ozaki also had to start over from the distraction the unicorn had posed. Lets see… One two… Dude this was like counting sheep. Do not sleep in a sunny field Ozaki. We all know this.
Okay. Again. This time he managed to count all the dirty unicorns up to 24, and he was relatively certain he was right. Sharaku was probably gonna notice something was weird about him… Eh. He could just tell the truth. He’d took a chill pill. Well. Injected one. But ta-may-to ta-mah-to.
He returned with his new unicorn, shutting his umbrella and setting against the wall. “We got two dozen unicorns left.”

The Vamp Wolf | Whether he took notice or not was not even the most relevant matter to question right there. For if the vampire thought that he’d automatically jump on it the moment he saw it, then it’d be safe to say the guy had a slightly wrong impression of him. Yes, when he wanted to, he could be relentless about finding out the truth of a matter…however, the majority of the time he walked a thin line between being interested in knowing, and not quite giving enough of a fuck. It was very easy to make the decision to not care, and he was just as capable of ignoring as he was of refusing to let go.
In this particular case, it was more that he didn’t particularly trust the guy to want to be truthful about things anyway, and trying to pull teeth about everything lost its charm very quickly. He didn’t need to know regardless, did he now? Silence wasn’t a problem for him, in fact in many cases it was way better than dealing with the constant buzz.
He’d scoff faintly. “This honestly seems like a job for more than two people….” Hell, it wasn’t like cleaning the unicorns up was the end of it all. With that many, there would be so much stall area to tidy up as well. They were going to spend a lot of time on this, assuming everything needed to be done thoroughly… |
