welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

It had been a full two days since anyone at the academy had seen so much as a hair of him at his workplace. Unusual during the workweek. He had managed to get a call through to his boss at one point… What a shit show that’d been. Given the fact he’d once shown up with a portion of his skin literally charred off, the fact he had ditched entirely was something she’d been rightly worried for.
When Ozaki had tried to pop in for work yesterday she had sent him home without even bothering to hear a word of it. Hard worker be damned- he needed actual rest. Instead of that the vampire had opted to take on a different kind of job for a bit. Of course she’d tried to drill him for information on who had done it… Of which Ozaki had been adamantly stubborn about not giving information away on that.
He did not need his kitsune boss trying to pick a fight with the entirety of a vampire gang.
Any how, he’d read about this the job board and it seemed the best fit for him right now. There would be absolutely no danger around him and unicorns. In fact there might be the possibility he could get his limb restored out of it. Most of the bruises had healed by now, but the right arm was going to take some time. The gouge in his right side wasn’t at risk of bleeding any more at least though.
It was of course daytime when Ozaki arrived at the farm, so he had his umbrella up and open to block the deadly rays. He wore his trench coat with with a dark blue long sleeved shirt underneath, forgoing one of his nice vests this time around in favor of not ruining it with the farm work they’d likely be doing today. The right arm of his coat was lying limp from the absence of its normal inhabitant. He had debated trying to pretend like he had two arms when he walked into this job…
Indeed that’s what he had done when he’d walked into his own. But figured that in this particular case there’d be little point when the fact he had had to gerry rig something to hold his umbrella up for him using his backpack as a stand of sorts for it was rather telling. Plus if they were around when he got to work his deceit would be glaringly obvious any how.
Better to lead with honesty in this case. As he walked up to the farm a few grazing unicorns looked up curiously at the vampire in their midst.

The Vamp Wolf | This was undoubtedly not on the list of things people would expect someone like him to be doing, but Sharaku wasn’t exactly all that picky when it came to the jobs. Although to be fair, he had expected to end up dealing with something else instead, however after scanning through all the current offers that were available, he was forced to conclude the farm job to be the one least sounding like a pile of garbage for one reason or another. Eh…he was probably going to be a little bored doing that all day, but at the very least, he did like animals, so there was a plus in that entire mess to be found. Was it possible to try riding unicorns?
That said, while unlike the other vampire, he didn’t get seriously harmed by the sunlight, he still didn’t particularly like it for extended periods at a time. Therefore he could be found fully dressed in long black pants and a long-sleeved top this time, even though he typically opted for less stuffy upper body garments. There was also a pair of dark sunglasses on his head, albeit he currently had them pulled up In his head rather than on his face.
The tall man could be spotted sitting by the walls of the nearby stable, resting his chin on one of his bent legs. He had ended up coming around early, for reasons he wouldn’t bother disclosing, and after exchanging a few words with the owners of the place, decided to wait for this apparent other person that was to be helping out today as well. He could have tried to get ahead with some work, but it frankly hadn’t been necessary to start too early, and he would probably need to cooperate with the other person anyway.
Once the vampire came close enough and took a good look around, he’d likely easily spot him sitting in his spot, watching the unicorns walk about and do their thing. |

Ozaki spotted the other vampire from a distance. And upon doign so internally cursed his luck on this. He had hoped that he would be able to do the job alone. The posting had been up in the Academy. But still. He had gone on this job alone hoping to do it alone. Because… I mean it was unicorns damn it. He had a few good reasons for doing this particular job. But that didn’t make doing it any less embarrassing when you met someone you knew at the very same gig.
What was Sharaku of all people doing this job for? More than likely he’d be finding out soon if he was right in assuming they’d be made to work together.
Sharaku was going to be hell to deal with. The cut off arm was intense enough to deal with. But a fellow vampire was likely to zone right in on the fact his fangs had been filed down. If Ozaki hadn’t injected a local anesthetic for them he’d still be in excruciating pain from that. How was he supposed to explain that of all things? He could try to hide it, but someone as observant as Sharaku would notice sooner rather than later.
As Ozaki got close he gave a little wave. “Sharakuuuuu… Crazy we took the same job. I’m going to talk to the owners real quick and be right back.” His hair was messier than normal despite looking like he had recently gotten a hair cut. It’d have been a damn good one if well… He could stop messing with it.
Overall Ozaki looked like he’d been hit by train. His tone was a bit too chipper, and his smile tight lipped as he was doing his best not to show his teeth- namely his filed down fangs- too much. He was trying his best to not to reveal anything was wrong… But of course his attempts were trying to hard and likely telling in on themselves. Already he was walking off at a brisk pace to where he was told the owners would meet him at.

The Vamp Wolf | The golden eyed man had frankly been kind of spacing out, lost in thoughts as he stared in the general direction of the unicorns as they enjoyed the sun’s rays. Likely, he would have stayed that way for a good while, had he not gotten interrupted by a voice, causing him to blink a few times as he turned his head in the direction of the sound, his initial expression a slightly incredulous one. He had assumed whoever the other person was going to be would be someone from the school as well, but the chances of it being someone he knew were honestly very minimal. He could count the amount of people he was properly acquainted with on one hand, but apparently luck did not care about how unlikely an occurrence was meant to be.
He’d blank for a few seconds, opting to just shake his head in the end. “And here I thought I was just going to have some chill time with some magical animals….Well, fuck me I guess.”, he’d pause for a moment, “…or maybe not. That’d be the worst idea right now.” Joke not originally intended, but whatever. “Sure though.” He’d stay sitting unmoving for a brief moment longer, his gaze following the vampire, certainly wondering what was with the odd acting job the guy seemed to be putting on. Eh, he was about to have the whole day to figure that out, he guessed. Mentally shrugging to himself, he’d pull his shades down on his face, standing up as he brushed off some stray grass from his pants. He had no idea how to feel about this development just yet, but there was no point in crying about spilled milk, was there now? Hopefully this trip wouldn’t turn into a frustration however, because that was definitely not why he had decided to come here. The irony of even a very simple sounding job suddenly turning into a way bigger load than expected, and all it took was one extra person he might not end up jiving with all that well. Though to be fair, he didn’t have a serious issue with the guy in general. It was just…that he sort of figured there was a good chance the atmosphere between them was going to turn out weird somehow. |

He gave a snort at the joke Sharaku made. Yah. That would be… Weird. The unicorns definitely would not dig that. When he met the owners they were hesitant initially upon seeing him. He waved off their concerns in saying that even with only an arm he’d be able to do the job fine. As desperate as they were they opted to accept him, even in his current condition. They gave him a list of things they were meant to do along with some instructions, then pointed him in the direction of Sharaku.
Great… Dude was like a dog with a bone when he saw something he wanted figuring out. Aaah… Maybe not the best metaphor. At least it’d only been in his head.
Maybe things would be fine if he could just manage to find a way to ignore everything that had happened the past few days. Forget about Mordred, forget about Nyx’s broken leg. And hope to Artemis that he had actually managed to throw his sire’s goons off of his trail before coming here. Ozaki was pretty sure he had. But if they did show up. Or even worse- Mordred himself… There were many parts of Ozaki’s life he did his best to keep separated.
His sire would definitely be one of them.
Maybe he could just give a sparse explanation and Sharaku would drop it if he asked him. Ozaki would honestly not think about it at all. He returned after about ten minutes. “So… Funny seeing you here huh? Didn’t reckon you’d be the type to take this kind of job.”

The Vamp Wolf | Looking towards the guy pointedly, he’d cross his arms over his chest. “I could be asking you the same question. Why would someone like you who’s usually working at the school or gathering supplies when out, go on a mission to herd magical horses for a day?” Clearly not quite a job within the vampire’s typical jurisdiction, unless he was here to grab some unicorn materials, though he had a feeling the guy wasn’t exactly the type to choose stealing like this if he could have searched for wild unicorns instead. He’d shrug though. “This was the least shitty looking job that was on the offer list when I looked through it. Also, I do like animals. It’s too bad normal horses tend to spook fairly easily around me since I do smell of a wolf.” His motivations weren’t really anything special in this case. Despite it being technically a job, he’d frankly consider it to be more of a casual trip. Assuming nothing dumb happened, it ought to not be that hard to do this.
“Makes me wonder what type of a person do you think I am.” He’d shake his head with that statement before waving a hand towards the papers the vampire was holding. “What did they give you?” He had listened to some basic stuff earlier, but since he had to wait for his company anyway, he had chosen to focus more on that. There was no need for two sets of papers to be in the way. Regardless, there were other things he could have asked the guy, given the situation, but it would probably be better for them to get started on something first. He’d rather not do overtime due to having gotten carried away talking without doing anything. |

Because his boss sent him home and refused to let him work for the rest of the week. And as much as Ozaki just wanted things to go back to normal, there was no reason he was going to go back home and relax. A bunch of gangsters knew where he lived now. At least until he managed to find a place to move to. For the past few nights he’d just gone to the bat cave rather than go back home. He’d gone back once to try and straighten things up a bit and try and explain things to his landlord…
That had been something. Getting all that black and red blood out was going to cost a lot. Yet another reason he was here.
Any how, with any luck if he returned tomorrow with two arms she might change her mind on that. “Seemed the safest job on the board… Plus there’s a good chance one of these unicorns might heal up my arm right quick so…” Worth the embarrassment of being seen taking care of unicorns. Not that Sharaku could technically tease him since they were in the same boat.
At this point Ozaki just gave up on trying to conceal his filed down fangs. He couldn’t concentrate on doing that the whole damn time. He was going to be to too busy for that later.
When Sharaku asked the question of what he thought of him Ozaki momentarily wondered if he really had to answer that. “I guess super serious?” He offered, handing Sharaku the papers as he asked. “They’re instructions for what we’re going to need to do throughout the day. Grooming, mucking out the stalls, feeding them at the end of the night.”
There were instructions for earlier on in the day than they had arrived as well. Which mostly involved the morning feeding. Why they had included them Ozaki wasn’t sure. Perhaps they were being passive aggressive about when the two had arrived. Or maybe they were hoping that if one of them did it again, they’d arrive at that time next time. If they’d wanted people to arrive sooner they really should have been more detailed in their posting… Whatever. Gee Ozaki was really not in a great mood today.
Being an arm short tended to do that. But he was determined not to take that out on those around him.

The Vamp Wolf | “Did you try to kill yourself with whatever you did previously?” Not that he knew anything about what the guy did in his free time, but he certainly looked like he had done something dangerous prior to choosing this supposedly safe job. Which it hopefully would be, assuming they did not agitate the unicorns in any way. He’d rather not end up on the receiving end of a kick from hard hooves. Regardless, he appeared to be frowning slightly, although reading him would happen to be even harder now that he was wearing black shades, since his eyes were probably the most telling thing in most cases and that was with his expressions tending to be somewhat stony to begin with.
The answer to his ‘wondering’ did almost make him laugh however, and he settled with giving the other a slight tsk sound in response. “You better hope that I’m not, because I’d wager it’d be bad news for you.” He was mostly a realist and a fairly pragmatic person in the majority of cases, but in spite of how serious that could make him come off, he was typically way less than that. Perhaps it was his tendency to speak in a more direct and commanding way that reinforced the idea more than necessary, but he was in fact a lot more flexible than he seemed to be. Alas, due to what was perceived initially, most people never actually tried to get somewhere with him, as they figured they did not have much of a chance of success.
Too bad…well, for everyone involved, technically. Woes aside, he’d stare down at the papers now in his hands, skimming over the briefly. While he had noticed the extra time there, he wasn’t quite seeing it as a problem for the time being. They probably hired people like this from time to time, yes? Therefore they would sometimes have people around for the early mornings as well. Easier to have one set of papers simply detailing everything rather than make several specialized ones depending on which time period the current volunteers were helping for. That, and frankly if they did want to complain about something, they’d have to tell it to his face. He had no need to acknowledge subtle hints that didn’t have to be real after all. “You have something you’d prefer to start with?” |

Ozaki would like to say no. But he had been acting really stupidly when he’d gotten his arm cut off. Whether or not his intent had been to kill his sire, what the hell had he been doing taking him back to his actual house? Sure that had been his intent, but given that he had not done it while the vampire was asleep, there was no guarantee of anything until he was actually dead.
And what if he had changed his mind for some reason? Okay well… The person he’d been while under the influence of that blood wouldn’t have changed their mind. No matter what kind of world shattering information they received. Don’t think about it Ozaki, he told himself. He could not afford a break down here. “No… I unwittingly drank some bad blood and picked a fight with the wrong person.”
He wanted to leave it there, but there was so much on that topic. Bad blood did not cover it in the least. Ozaki had broken one of Nyx’s legs for crying out loud. And the whole time he’d been attacking her she’d been worried to death over how weirdly he was acting and how his fangs had been actively bleeding at the time. She didn’t even try to defend herself. That being said… Running away was a form of that. But still.
At Sharaku’s laugh Ozaki was a bit taken aback. Well he guessed the man had made quite a few jokes while they were together. Some of them positively on the dirty side. “The grooming I’m thinking. The mucking out the stalls definitely looks like a two handed job.” Plus he was kind of hoping that’s where he’d score his brownie points with the unicorns… Just as well unicorns weren’t empaths or mind readers. He wasn’t particularly sure they’d regard his intentions as pure by any means.
Ozaki started walking over to one of the nearest unicorns, offering his hand for the horned creature to sniff a few times, it sniffed as his chest investigatively as well. To anyone else it might seem like a completely random move. But Ozaki could think of a couple reasons the unicorn might do it, the primary one being there was a bat sleeping in the pocket the unicorn had just sniffed. Many of them had insisted that he at least take one of them. Dealing with the fight that had been caused when they tried to decide which one of them had not been something he’d been particularly up to. So he’d just ordered them to stop at the time and picked one himself.
He reached out his gloved hand in order to pet the unicorn’s muzzle a few times, and started leading it towards the nearby barn. Being so close to it while having this umbrella on was a bit tricky, so he was going to lead it inside of the barn where at least part of the area would be shielded from sunlight and he could do without this for awhile…
Ozaki really should have gone back for his sunglasses when he’d realized he’d forgotten them. "By bad blood I should note that it turns out I drank from the same batch as... As Nyx did when she turned into Fluffy. Probably safe to say that's what caused it." Ozaki was glad he had an excuse not to make eye contact with Sharaku right now given that he was leading the unicorn and had to keep an eye on it and not accidentally bapping it with his umbrella.

The Vamp Wolf | “I think that brings up more questions than it explains.” Bad blood being? That could mean anything from poisonous to just plain rotten. Besides, it looked like whoever the guy had fought probably tried to kill him, but he was clearly still alive. Which meant there had to be more to it than just a fight with someone strong. In any case, he’d shrug. “It’ll have to get done eventually, two arms or only one.” Even if unicorns could heal, he didn’t know enough about that to guess how quick it was. Did the vampire assume it was going to be fast enough for him to be fully functional by the time they moved into stall cleaning? He would have thought something as serious as that would take more than a couple minutes in the middle of work, but then again, this wasn’t something he had enough knowledge on to say for certain.
Glancing towards the group of unicorns, some of which were watching them at this point, he was almost about to pick one himself but it would appear he didn’t have to in the end, as one had decided to come closer out of curiosity and proceeded to attempt licking his face. “…” Why did he sign up for this again? Sigh. “…do I have something on my face…?” He didn’t think so, and he was pretty sure the horned creature wouldn’t understand him anyway, but he still felt compelled to at least ask, even if just to say it out loud for himself. With a faint guffaw, he’d try to pat it on the head while avoiding getting any more wet tongue near his face, attempting to glance towards the direction of his companion.
“So…how could that happen? Aren’t you the one stocking those?” From what he understood, it had to be the blood provided by the school, which would mean the vampire himself had let that pass somehow. Which could be a potentially dangerous slip up to make, even if this time everyone ended up being safe enough in the end. |

For once Ozaki was almost glad that Sharaku was asking more questions. He wasn’t going to say that he would answer all of them completely honestly, but he couldn’t keep all of this to himself. He frowned as Sharaku commented on the fact that he stocked them. Yes. Yes he was. “The true nature of the blood was veiled. Even my talent didn’t catch onto it until it was too late and I was already under its effects. And it basically specializes in the analyzation of foreign substances.”
From what he had heard this blood had been given the day of the blood drive. Now he was trying not to make assumptions. But one did not pull one over on his talent simply by accident. Surely not. Had this actually been planned? Had someone really tried to taint the blood supply of the school’s hemophages? Ozaki could only imagine what kind of person had this kind of stuff running through their veins. Or what they had taken in order to make it like this.
Once they got into the barn and into an area removed from sunlight Ozaki removed the umbrella with a bit of difficulty. After a bit of trying to shut it with only one hand hand at his disposal, he abandoned the effort and just left it in an out of the way area that was clean enough. He then grabbed one of the brushes and started scrubbing down the unicorn’s side in circular motions like the instructions had told him to. Ozaki himself knew that a unicorn’s magical healing powers were pretty damn good. He was just hoping that the powers weren’t so mystical that they’d somehow bring back the tattoo on his arm as well as the rest of it.
It would be problematic to have to claw up the newly remade tattoo right in here. Of all things to question, the sizzling sound of flesh and the subsequent clawing into his own flesh he’d have to do to remove such a thing would definitely elicit questions.

Ozaki felt his temper begin to flare slightly as Sharaku spoke. Of course he had checked the blood. He knew how to do his job and did not like the implication to the contrary. His talent could work with scent on some level. Not nearly as well as with ingesting the material, but was better if he tasted a bit of the blood. And there were other safety measures as well. And this blood had slipped through all of those. If he had known he could have converted the blood to an untainted version. Safe to consume for all. But he had missed it, and because of that Nyx had become Fluffy. And he had done so much worse than she while under its effects.
He started on rubbing down the unicorn’s back, but was having a bit of a hard time given his short stature. The unicorn kneeled down upon noticing that Ozaki was having a hard time getting it its back, whinnying in appreciation as he rubbed down a few dirty and itchy spots on there.
“There are safety measures Sharaku… And even for all of those it still slipped through the cracks.” And it was his fault. Despite how angry and frustrated Sharaku might make him sometimes, he couldn’t actually hate him. He was right about everything. The unicorn snorted in agitation at his turn in tone. While the creature could not understand what was being said, it could pick up on the tones in which people around it spoke.
Ozaki stroked the unicorn a few times, settling both himself and it back down before speaking again in the best calm tone he could. “But you’re right… I did mess up. And as for what was in it? My talent would need more time to take a crack at it before it could really nail it down. It was something like pure darkness or chaos. Something abstract. I doubt it would have the same effect twice even on the same person.”
Abstract substances were harder for his talent to analyze than most.

The Vamp Wolf | He had half the mind to question just what kind of testing did they do, considering whatever it was seemed to take effect very easily upon ingestion, which came off like it ought to be noticeable through at least some methods. In the end, it perhaps didn’t matter to him though. He wasn’t an expert on these matters, and doing research about it would be going unnecessarily far. Still, the guy’s response did give him different points of interest. He didn’t even have to look over in his direction to read the mood, and he’d simply shake his head as he shifted to brushing out his unicorn’s tail. “You know…despite how serious you say I come off, you’re the one getting the most hung up over the things that get brought up. You might get yourself in trouble one day.” Especially seeing as the vampire was clearly trying hard to cover it up all the time, which would either end up with him blowing at some point, or someone would simply catch on and exploit that in some way.
In any case, he’d frown slightly. “What do you mean by that? If it is just pure darkness, I’d assume it strengthens a person’s negative traits, and those don’t necessarily change around left and right. Why would it have different effects each time?” The way the guy spoke about it making him do bad decisions, and the fact that it turned Nyx into Fluffy who was indeed a darker version of herself…it did check out on the idea of it bringing out the worse in a person in some way. Wouldn’t that be similar each time it happened? Unless it also added made up bad traits of its own on top somehow, but that would be an odd function to possess. Being more abstract didn’t have to mean that it would have a constantly changing verdict. It did appear to have a pretty clear motive from what he had heard, at the very least. “Unless you mean they’d start becoming immune to it after it initially runs its course.” That would be a potential explanation. People slowly noticing something was off, and being able to fight it instead of getting controlled by the enhanced negativity. |

Ozaki was genuinely hoping that wasn’t the case- that it enhanced one’s negative traits. In the case of Fluffy that would be great. In the case for him that would make him a bigoted racist asshole. He had been raised by one- and did his best not to give off any indicators of his upbringing. His talent was somewhat agreeing with what Sharaku was saying though, though the other possibility it was also muttering about was that it brought out what he feared his darkness was rather than the true darkness.
Manifesting his greatest fear into reality. “Well they’re serious things to think about.” Ozaki muttered. The Fluffy situation and this one where he had dropped the ball with the blood. The hell did he mean that he was going to get himself in trouble anyways? He was probably commenting on the trouble Ozaki had already managed to land himself in.
“I also said that it was pure chaos.” Ozaki said as he finally got around to grooming the unicorn’s mane. Sharaku was going much faster than him. But that was only to be expected given the man was actually able to use both hands. He wasn’t sure he could explain what the substance had been like. Even his own talent was in a tizzy about it. And he was feeling more incompetent by the minute for missing it before it got out in the school’s system.
He was glad he didn’t have to face Sharaku right now, because his expressions right now were considerably transparent. He was to blame on multiple levels for how badly things had gone.
The unicorn, however, was getting a full view of his face and nuzzled him slightly in an attempt to comfort him. The young virgin was doing his best with one arm. It was appreciative of his efforts, but wishing he were a bit more energetic like the other stable hand that had come in. It could sense that he was severely wounded. The severed arm was not the only wound he had suffered. And there was a strange collection of something strange in his lungs… That would not be easily removed. Even by its potent healing magic. The virgin didn’t seem to be having a problem with breathing though. Just the wounds.
It could fix that. And then things would be better. The unicorn’s horn lit up brightly, calling upon its healing magic. Bone, muscle, skin. All of that was forcibly generated within ten seconds of calling upon the spell. It would have been quite the painful process if the unicorn had wished it. But it had no reason to want to harm the virgin that was working its hardest for it.
It healed the wound that had been carved into his side as well while it was at it.
The vampire’s expression lit up in pure exhilaration. The Unicorn was tired now, but the enthusiastic thank you and pets it was receiving was more than worth it.
