welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The Vamp Wolf | He’d pause in his ministrations briefly, his hand clenching harder around the brush he was holding, causing the unicorn to glance over at him curiously. He’d just shush it with his free hand, hoping to not have a prodding animal on his case. There was nothing it could do about his problem anyway, since it wasn’t a physical issue of any kind. Narrowing his eyes under his shades, he’d sigh. “Yes, but you’re….” Trailing off with his statement, he wouldn’t finish that one, oddly enough.
For the love of all that was holy, this guy was really being a pain for him. It was one of those times when he had to curse his powers for existing, for they weren’t exactly making him have a fun time. He was fine with most people, but the vampire was a lot more frustrating with the whole pretense act around everything, on top of the whole thing already being intense enough. People like that annoyed him. Of course, it seemed that Nyx did a similar thing herself, but her case was at least more reasonable given her situation. This guy was just trying too hard to not be seen as less nice or too troubled.
Not being able to just watch him was only making it worse in this case, to be frank. He had picked up on being good at reading people by observing them specifically so he could rely more on that instead, making it less of a strain when dealing with people in case someone was in fact a tough to swallow individual. Like this though? This guy was just going to fry his brain with his negative emotional moodiness, and it was kind of hard to not.
He just couldn’t have a relaxing day even on a job like this, huh? Why was he even surprised about that, he had no idea. Nothing ever went the way it was expected to, he knew as much as that.
“….”
“You’re going to give me a headache.” He’d pinch the bridge of his nose in a bout of exasperation as he glanced over at the now ‘happier’ seeming scene. Well, at least they could work better now, but he doubted all the problems were solved with just that. Healing physical wounds didn’t clear out one’s mind after all. “Tell me something….do you talk to anyone about the things that happen without them questioning you first?” |

Ozaki actually had to take a moment to process Sharaku’s question to fully understand what was actually being asked. Was he asking if Ozaki ever talked to someone about his problems unprompted. Sure. When he was shit faced drunk at a bar or taking someone’s blood and planning on wiping their memory of the experience any how.
Of which he doubted that would be easily done on a normal vampire, let alone a werewolf vampire. Or maybe it’d be easier. Either way Ozaki didn’t want to take the risk with someone who knew Nyx personally. Or maybe that’s why he should spill the beans. But there were a few reasons why he didn’t want to. For one. He didn’t want to bother Sharaku with hearing his personal crap when he probably wasn’t interested. The werevamp had come here expecting some time alone with magical creatures that weren’t intimidated by his very scent.
Instead he got the displeasure of being around him. Nope. Nope. Hold onto the happy you had a moment earlier. Ozaki thought to himself. He had just had his arm healed up. He should be grateful for that at least. Right now wasn’t the time to go sinking into one of his pits. And boy was it deep today.
Ozaki was debating how to answer Sharaku’s question as he got to brushing to the unicorn’s tail, finally able to go at a decent pace. He did have some friends he was still in contact with from high school and college. And he had contacted Alise the other day after that whole mess with Fluffy. But all of them were busy with their own lives for him to feel comfortable calling them out of the blue to talk about his personal problems. Maybe he could call Alise. But now there was too much to bring up to her.
Breaking Nyx’s leg alone would be enough. But he’d actually met his sire… And boy had that been something… Had a few extreme revelations brought to him while he was at it too. Would she even give a damn about any of it? “If you’re asking if I have people to talk to about things. Of course I do. but I’m fine, really.”
Fake smile was fake. "I got my arm back, see?"

The Vamp Wolf | The initial response the vampire would get would just be a sigh as the taller man shifted his attention to checking the unicorn's hooves, silent for a brief while. This was not an easy situation to deal with. On one hand, he did not have any need to hear more and try to do anything about the guy's issues, whatever they actually were. On the other, this was just going to drive him mental sooner or later, he was sure of that. He didn't know how to talk to people very nicely though. He could play it well in more business oriented settings, but personal contact of this level was not his strong point in the slightest. Was it even possible for him to be both genuine and not too harsh? Whoever thought it was great for him to be the one to not be easily deceived by pretending was clearly out of their mind.
"I....look." He'd turn towards the guy with a huff, pulling his shades back up into his hair. "Let's not play this game....I know you're lying." This was perhaps the only way to go about it at this moment. "I don't like telling people this, but my talent lets me be aware of people's general state of mind in the moment. I don't know why or any specifics, but you've clearly not been honest about your feelings about things from the start. At all. I'm not sure what you hope to gain by lying to people through your teeth like that. I think you're going to have a hard time dealing with the consequences though. Whether because of a lack of outlet or people judging you when they eventually find out you didn't bother trusting them with anything." There's being a bit secretive and not wanting some things to be said, but one could tell people they did not wish to discuss a matter and be honest about that much at the very least. Straight up lying however could end up quite nasty. "You might want to be careful about who you pick to tell flat out lies to." He'd shrug slightly.
"Seriously though, your negativity mindset is going to give me a headache eventually." Still, his tone seemed more jesting there than anything else. |

Fuck. That was his first response in hearing that Sharaku could read his state of mind. Better than reading his thoughts but… Hell was there even a point in mincing his words around Sharaku? Probably not. But also yes. He cared about Nyx… At least that was the general feeling Ozaki got from him. Maybe. He just had a weird way of showing it.
If Sharaku found out what he had done to Nyx he’d probably judge him quite harshly for it. And yah. There’d be consequences. Perhaps Sharaku would get that it had been the black blood that had done it… But it had still been him, even if he was under the influence of that substance.
He was vaguely reminded of Dawn’s reaction when he had refused to let her know anything about how he had gotten hurt the other day. That reaction had been quite severe.
But did Sharaku even care what he was feeling? Or was he just annoyed by it? Ozaki felt himself stumped for words. What did Sharaku even want? Did he want him to be honest? Did he want him to talk about them? He doubted that.
Sharaku could probably tell how guilty he was feeling right now. And sad. And angry. And frustrated and confused. Truth and consequence. That sounded like the title to a book. The sequel to Pride and Prejudice. “Well that mindset isn’t going to go away even if I do talk about it, sorry to say.” He said as he worked onto the last of the snarls in the tail and lifted one of the hooves to start cleaning the dirt out of it.
His tone was a little less chipper now. But he was still regulating it somewhat in order to not spook the unicorns. “Are you trying to get me to talk about my feelings or whatever? Because I can guarantee that’ll be more headache inducing than just sensing the emotions. I can just go over and muck out the stalls while you do the grooming if its that much of a bother.”
Sharaku had said that as a joke… But Ozaki either didn’t catch that or was taking it too seriously.

The Vamp Wolf | On second thought, trying to figure this whole thing out would probably give him a bigger headache than just the emotional tension alone. It was almost funny how people took note of him being direct and seemingly serious as well as take offense to it most of the time, and yet they were constantly trying to find the subtle hints and meanings in what he had said anyway. Clearly, had his intention been to tell the guy to fuck off and get distance for him, he could have just told him so instead of sticking himself into the mess like this. Nobody would actually consider he’d do that despite labeling him as too blunt otherwise however. It kind of made him wonder how they thought it worked.
It didn’t help him at all, because newsflash, but he was just plain bad at attempting to come off empathetic in any way. Whether he actually meant to be or not. Seriously though, did everyone just see a bad guy when someone was more assertive than what was normally expected? Taking a deeper breath, he’d push up some of the stray hair hanging over his eyes. “That’s…not what I was thinking would happen. Also, the headache thing is a joke. That’d be one of the least problematic matters in my life anyway.” He’d give the unicorn a pat, letting it go off now that he was done. He’d have to go grab another one, but first things first, to finish this talk. “Is there something wrong with talking to people? You sound like you believe it’s going to hurt you to be even a little honest with someone. I don’t have any reason to be trying to end you or something, you know?” Besides, chances were it’d get out sooner or later, and hearing about things from rumors or a second-hand story could paint a worse picture of a person than being more upfront about what was happening before it became a fishy secret. “I doubt it’s good for you in the long term. Just consider where Nyx had gotten herself with her pretense of not needing fighting and such. And besides, liars get a bad rep in general.” He’d shrug a little. |

Ozaki did not truly think that Sharaku was the worst. Frankly he was just trying to grasp at any reason to not speak on them. And assuming that Sharaku didn’t really want to hear them in the first place had been one of his gambits. One that had failed obviously. The vampire let go of the unicorn’s hoof and then was about to move onto the next one when he paused, looking towards Sharaku.
Sharaku was the level headed sort… Odds are he would not be like Dawn and fly off the handle. Dawn herself had stated the other day that if anyone hurt Nyx badly- even him- she would experiment on them. Sharaku wasn’t that kind of person. But still, he was afraid of saying the words out loud to someone else who would remember them.
The were vampire was bringing up good points as always, a fact that was both annoying and… Something else. He liked how calm and collected Sharaku always seemed to be. His occasional weird humor was enjoyable too.
He could see this all coming out in the worst way if left simply to its own devices. Without context he’d look like a monster. Hell even with it he looked terrible. Ozaki drew his fingers through his hair and shut his eyes tightly for a moment, trying to gather himself. It felt like he was about to jump off of a high dive board. He could try and answer Sharaku’s questions directly… But the truth of what he was fritzing out about would be just as potent an answer as any.
The truth could hurt to say out loud. And could just as easily be used as a weapon against the person who had made themselves vulnerable. The truth could easily turn people against you and make them have something against you.
“I broke Nyx’s leg while under the influence of the tainted blood.” Ozaki finally managed to say in a strained voice, trying to keep his voice from cracking or tears from spilling. He opened his eyes, keeping them trained on Sharaku’s feet. He was unable to meet the man’s eyes.
But wanted to keep an eye on him… Just in case. He was trying his best not to cry right now. The last thing he wanted to do was have a melt down here. Not in front of Sharaku of all people.

The Vamp Wolf | Truth to be told, he did have the ability to be more reactive, but that would take people pressing the right buttons. He didn’t threaten people physically unless they were extremely pissing him off, and that did take a form of dedication. While he could get mad at someone for hurting another, his reaction depended entirely on their stance towards it, and whether they’ve one it on purpose or not, as well as knowing how much they care about what happened. There was absolutely no point in him giving out further punishment to a person who was clearly already doing it to themselves in the first place. There was no way he could take any pleasure in doing that. “So…uhh, she’s okay though, right? A broken leg can heal just fine…” Frankly he had no idea, as he hadn’t quite gotten the chance to see her since the Fluffy incident. He didn’t know where exactly it was she lived, nor did he follow her daily schedule. The times they met were usually either by chance, or when they were doing the same job. At any rate, he wasn’t sure what to say here. It was safe to say that was not the kind of confession he was expecting to get, and while it wasn’t the worst thing to be hearing, he had no great response ready for it. It wasn’t a good thing on one hand, but…she wasn’t gravely injured, and technically as a Blood Devil she wouldn’t have died easily anyway. Given how…accepting she seemed to be of what was practically abuse towards her, he’d even wager she would not act too mad about this either. Well, that was just a speculation on his part but still. Either way, the vampire beating himself over it like this wasn’t going to help anyone involved in the matter, was it now? “Have…you spoken to her since that happened? I don’t think she’d really hate you for it or anything if you talked to her about it. You didn’t mean to do that, right? If you’re genuine about that, then it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. There’s a difference between people who commit horrible acts without caring, and those who are forced to through circumstances.” Also, he had no idea where he was trying to go with this at all, though he figured the worst option would be to say or do something that’d make it look like he was going to bash the guy’s head in for it. Which wasn’t his intention but he knew well enough that he probably came off that way just by existing. Might as well be his secret talent, as unfunny as that was. |

He was relieved Sharaku wasn’t going to attack. Knowing his personality it seemed improbable. But Ozaki was on edge about everything right now. Sharaku was right about what he said about people being who did horrible things by choice were different than those who had been forced into it… But he’d never really been able to fully believe that. Heedless of the circumstances, his hands had still done the deed.
“I couldn’t find her.” Ozaki muttered. Even while he was attacking her the only thing Nyx kept asking was if he was okay. What was wrong with him. What had happened to his fangs. He needed to go to the hospital. Black blood is bad. She was probably more concerned for him than herself. “I still can’t forgive myself for how I acted though… It was crazy. I was so… I mean I was spewing hateful bible verses for Dracula’s sake. And after Nyx teleported away I figured…”
As a tear slipped past his guard the unicorn stooped down and licked it off. He really should be getting back to work. He didn’t have to tell Sharaku anything more than he had. Was Ozaki trying to get the man to hate him? That wouldn’t work anyways. “I figured I’d go v-vampire hunting… After all I said and did… I honestly can’t say I didn’t deserve to get my arm cut off by the man.” His voice was wavering and nearly inaudible as he wiped at the unicorn saliva on his cheek, hoping that would veil any further tears that may have fallen. By Dracula's Fang why couldn't he just hold it together?
If he hadn’t been as brutally maimed as he had he probably would have found even half the excuse to do so himself. Rather than the peaceful quest with unicorns, he’d probably have gone straight to hell. He couldn’t forgive himself.

The Vamp Wolf | “?” Huh? This was rather strange. Why would a vampire want to go hunting their own kind? Well, sure he could think of a couple reason if he really wanted to, but it was still a questionable behavior in its own right. He still didn’t quite believe whatever that blood was all about would make people do something they’d never ever consider in the first place, so there had to be a connection to make the guy choose such a course of action. As much as he wanted to ask though, it really wasn’t the best time to conduct interrogations right now…
Filing that knowledge away for likely a later time, he’d settle on a faint frown for the moment, resting one hand on his hip as he tried to process this. “I think….I’d have to disagree with that. It’s true that you’re going to have to find a way to accept what happened in some way at least, but I heavily doubt getting punished in return is the way to go….” That didn’t make anything better or help find a solution. It only doubled the pain being passed around. “Did your injury make any of what happened improve? It didn’t really, did it now? And with yourself being wounded as well, you only delayed yourself from being able to change things for the better after the mess. Getting yourself mutilated or anything of the like doesn’t make Nyx heal faster, or turn anything that happened less severe. You may have messed up and maybe there is a deeper reason as to why it happened, but…doesn’t being too hard on yourself only add an extra person being hurt by this, without detracting none?” There was nothing wrong with feeling bad about having done something, however past a certain line, such thinking was sort of more of a detriment than it was help.
“Everyone has some flaws they’re not fond of. Perhaps knowing this now can help you figure something out. There has to be a reason as to why you did specifically what you did.” Just like Nyx temporarily turning into Fluffy wasn’t a complete coincidence. It was still her after all, even if it was the her that she was currently unaware of. Whatever that substance was, it clearly drew out parts of people they kept hidden deep down somehow, for reasons only they would know. |

As a matter of fact… No it had not reduced suffering. Ozaki had no problem with his own suffering. But due to his injuries he had attacked that maid. He felt bad for trying to eat her… But on the other hand. What had that vampire been thinking taking a vampire into his estate who had basically been drained dry at that point? An estate with human staff. If he were going to do that basic safety precautions would have been called for. Like restraining Ozaki in the likely possibilty that he woke up. Their variant was liable to slip into comas after massive damage was inflicted…
But there was also a known thing such as a blood frenzy. Something extremely likely to happen after wounds that had resulted in the loss of blood… Overall it was a better option for a body that needed to actually recover.
It had taken him a whole day to wake up after that, at which point he did indeed have a hard time finding Nyx. It had delayed bettering the situation and made things worse. He could fully accept his part with harming the maid… But if he thought about it, the other vampire had been woefully careless.
“No… Guess it didn’t do any good.” Nonetheless, he did deserve it was Ozaki’s stance there. He could go onto talk about the maid, but Ozaki already felt exposed enough without going into more detail.
He wasn’t used to indulging personal information about his life. Even Nyx hardly knew a thing about him… Heh… And he wondered why she herself didn’t share anything either. They were eerily similar in some ways. But perhaps he was reading too much into it.
Ozaki picked up one of the unicorn’s dirty hooves after managing to get ahold of himself and started cleaning away the accumulated dirt. They did still have a job to do.
… Now he thought about it bringing Nyx here would have been a great idea to make her heal faster. But as old as she was that would have to merit the question of whether or not she was…. Whether she would meet a unicorn’s standards. He doubted even Nyx would know that. Goddamn his thoughts had just gotten weird. Why did unicorns have to be so fixated on weird things?!
Any how. If Sharaku was theorizing that the tainted blood had revealed something new about Ozaki, he would honestly beg to differ. If he thought about it he knew where that part of him had come from… As much as he might try and deny it, he had been raised up within the Church of Purity. And as many years as had passed, some of those thoughts were still there. He hated them with a passion whenever they arose. And hated that he had acted fully within everything he had been raised as a human to think, and everything he fought so desperately as a vampire to deny.

The Vamp Wolf | Giving the vampire a sideways look, he’d leave the chat be for a moment as he moved away briefly to find himself another unicorn to clean up. He wasn’t particularly fond of the short responses he was getting most of the time though. It’s hard to talk when you’re not being given a lot to speak about, and as much as he could deduct from what he knew, it made it all a good chunk harder by default.
Coming back two minutes or so later with one of the smaller unicorns of the herd, he’d fiddle with the brush he picked back up slightly in contemplation. “You sound like the type of guy who’d think getting payback for what they did is good judgment….I wonder though…” He’d frown at the item in his hand. “You clearly don’t like people you care about getting hurt. You ever think that those who care about you probably think the same way? I doubt they’d be happy about seeing you get sliced up, regardless of whether it was because of a bad decision or anything else. You’ll just make them worry about you too.” If hurting someone else was not right, then why would letting it happen to yourself be? It was the same principle in the end. Nobody deserved it more than others in the majority of cases.
Besides, he wouldn’t see that as substantial punishment anyway. If someone really deserved getting hurt in return….sure, but that wouldn’t work great on a vampire, would it now? It wasn’t the same given that they could just heal back up with a bit of time at their hands. They’d be back to being healthy much faster than someone of a species that lacked enhanced healing powers. Though a broken leg wasn’t equal with a severed arm either, to be fair. If the guy really wanted a fair payback for himself, that was probably not a good idea to be working with. Not to say that he agreed with it being necessary to begin with. He didn’t get how it’d make anyone feel better about what happened. Unless the victim were to express that they would be happy to see the attacker suffer similarly. The current Nyx at the very least would undoubtedly never ask for something like that. No matter how guilty one felt…that didn’t make them atone for anything in his opinion…. |

By the time Sharaku had gotten back Ozaki was nearly done with the unicorn’s hooves, and had managed to get himself at least remotely composed again. He wasn’t openly crying at least any more. Damn it all he had to get a better hold on himself. And now apparently his inner emotions too. Normally he could put those in neat little boxes. But this was all too much to just simply box right now.
He could’t push it aside and ignore it when it was actively chasing him down. “Its not like I was trying to get hurt.” This time… Ozaki was generally reckless though. Sharaku had him better pegged than the vampire was comfortable with. At this point it almost didn’t matter what he said, because the longer he was close to Sharaku the more insight he was getting into his mind.
“I should go get a new unicorn.” He muttered, leading the unicorn he’d been tending out.
That was exactly how he felt. He lagged a bit in returning with a new unicorn, trying to condense his feelings meanwhile into at the very least a corner in his mind. They were taking care of unicorns after all. This should be fun. Or something. When he got back he hadn’t yet quite formulated what he wanted to say to Sharaku. He wished the were-vamp would just stop digging. Oh look. Another werewolf joke. Shut the fuck up Ozaki.
“Can’t we just focus on the unicorns or something? I took this job to try and get away from all that stuff for awhile.” He doubted that Sharaku would drop it. But it was worth asking.

The Vamp Wolf | Well, it wasn’t like he was enjoying this conversation either, especially with how gritty it was being. After all, he only had so much patience to give, and the amount of casual evasiveness was really killing it. Then again, he didn’t have to do this either, although he had a feeling that the whole thing just wasn’t going to end well at some point if the guy kept up that attitude towards all his problems and any people who tried to work with him somehow. Is that what the vampire wanted? For everyone to just leave him be and basically not give a fuck about whether he was doing well at all? How did he even want a strong relationship with Nyx then….? This was like a trigger bomb waiting to blow, honestly. What if one day he did something equally as hurtful again without the need of some bad magic to push him? It’d certainly be his own fault at that point, but that’d probably just destroy the guy completely unless he found a way to change this hiding habit…
“That’s not what you said the first time. I thought it was the safest job and you just wanted to get yourself healed up.” Plus, the guy didn’t seem like the type to pick this type of job for get away reasons. He’d sooner picture him sitting somewhere alone with a book or such, rather than have to actively engage some animals and do cleaning around a farm. Well, the unicorns weren’t being all that rowdy though, so it was pretty easy to space out and think about whatever anyway. Not the greatest distraction.
Nevertheless, he wouldn’t say anything more for the moment at the very least, as he turned his attention to inspecting the unicorn’s horn. |

Keep cool. Keep calm. He couldn’t snap at Sharaku for just asking questions. He was just being concerned. Or was he? Why was he asking these questions? Ozaki couldn’t even begin to parse what motives he might have. Did he genuinely care enough to ask? Or maybe he was worried about Nyx and was asking all these things because he was thinking that as he was Ozaki wasn’t capable of handling her?
He wouldn’t be wrong.
Ozaki shut up. He can read your emotional state? You know what he’s probably reading right now? Paranoia and suspicion. He might as well be an open book to Sharaku. He really should get something to shield his mind from the kinds of people who could read its state. Those that could either read or smell emotions were hard to try and be discrete around.
Ozaki busied himself with rubbing down the unicorn’s fur with the brush to clean the dirt off. “You know… I really don’t get you. You don’t seem to care, so why do you keep asking questions at all?” He might care, Ozaki thought. Sharaku just didn’t have the best way of expressing it. But Ozaki couldn’t see it right now. And as obvious as he was to Sharaku right now… Why not bother asking such a question?

The Vamp Wolf | Pausing in his observations, the tall young man would at first turn his head, narrowing his eyes at the vampire. Right. Another good reason as to why these types of conversations tested his patience levels. People were far too good at making him want to just punch someone in the face. Clearly, he was wasting his breath on asking questions just so he could have images of tormented people to dream about later. Despite knowing that he normally came off less than pleasant, people assuming by default that it meant him having ulterior motives of some kind was still a good way of spiking his blood pressure. He didn’t necessarily get them either. Could one only care if they were sweet while doing it? Who came up with that rule again? … “I don’t get myself either. Maybe it’s just not meant to be.” Great joke. 10/10. Sigh. Honestly, the most irritating thing about it all was how ironic this whole matter was. There was no denying the fact that he had a major distaste towards talking about himself when it concerned anything related to feelings which were not on the obviously negative side. He had no problem being angry or annoyed all day, but anything else? Arguably though, that meant he was more similar to his companion than he appeared to be at glance. It was less evident due to his forceful nature, and he tended to turn things into jokes instead of playing the pretend game, but the principle was still more or less the same. Maybe that’s why he didn’t like this. The longer it went on, the more chance that he’d have to answer to something too, and he didn’t particularly want to. It’s not like it was his problem, was it now? Except that the problem right now was that he’d make himself into a big hypocrite were he to completely refuse answering. Guess today was a mental suffering day or something. Frowning as he tried to think of what to say on this matter, he’d drop the brush down for the moment. He couldn’t concentrate on that if he actually wanted to say something that made proper sense. “If you really must know….I’m not exactly sure. I don’t think everyone has the same opinion on what it means to care…though, I just don’t like seeing people destroy themselves. The world is pretty rotten as it is, and it’s easy for others to come around and ruin one’s life as they please. I find it…kind of sad that a lot of people do things that cause them to hurt themselves on top of that as well. Doesn’t that only give more power to those who’d want to see you burn?” |
