welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Oras chuckled at Ozaki’s words. “Who said anything about killing them kid?” He said, watching You can’t interrogate someone if they’re dead.” He and the vampire charged at each other again, striking with their weapons in an attempt to harm the other. However the two of them both had much experience with swordplay. He was glad this vampire kept to the old traditions rather than picking up this age’s guns. Swordplay was by far more fun and entertaining than shooting someone and being done with it. They both had offensive fighting styles it seemed, though they both were also skilled in parrying, deflecting and counter attacking. As the two struck towards one another Oras remembered the environment. He stopped dead in his tracks holding up his hand to indicate they were pausing. The vampire stopped but showed huge confusion. Oras simply chuckled in reaction to his expression. “They tried to get me in trouble the last time I made a mess. Give me a sec:” After he said this, massive walls of ice were conjured in mid air, pushing the bookcases towards the walls at an angle so people could still get out… If there even was anyone else this late at night.
When a large space was cleared for them Oras nodded and turned his attention to the vampire. “Ok, now-“ Before he could finish the vampire rushed forward and thrust their blade at Oras. The atranoch parried the blade but not before it chipped a bit of his cheek off. Oras parried the blade again and blocked it the third time, chuckling as his shard came back to it’s original resting place. “Oh this is gonna be SO much fun!”

Okay. Good. Not going to kill him. Ozaki still thought that this was dicey but… Well there wasn’t much he could do about it but hope things did not get too bad. A few people in the library left, but there were still a few stranglers that stuck around out of curiosity, though they did step out of the way. The school did have a few nocturnal species after all in its ranks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Interrogate?” The vampire laughed loudly in rebuttal as they fought. He had seen Oras talking to the kid while he researched, so he could only assume this interrogation was on behalf of the fledgling. Which was hilarious. “I told him if he had any questions he could just ask me.” But no. The kid insisted he didn’t have any questions for him, and launched this whole ridiculous research binge when he could have literally asked the Blood members right around him. Antonio would have been fine with that, he’d tried offering multiple times at the beginning of it all.
“I don’t know nor care why he didn’t ask, but to me this is more fun! I haven’t seen any action the entire damn time I’ve been here so let me let loose!” As he said this he conjured massive spikes of ice that emerged from the floors, bookcases and ceiling. Only a master with sharp reflexes and high speeds could have evaded that… And it turns out he was dealing with a master. Sweet! He charged forward again, trading blows with his opponent while sending new icicles at his opponent at random times. At several moments the vampire hacked off one of the ice spikes and sent it hurtling towards Oras who simply absorbed the ice. The duel continued and Oras was starting to realize that his opponent was using his talent as well as Oras… So thaaaaat’s why he was able to match Oras blow for blow. How he was able to anticipate where and when he was going to conjure ice. He rushed in and forced a blade lock with his opponent, grinning. “Your talent lets you detail analyze your opponents in a mere second or two doesn’t it? Analyze how they’re moving, where they’re going or looking. All the little details that tell you what’s about to happen right? More to it obviously but not bad for a guess.” ‘So I just have to become more unpredictable…’
“Not bad at all.” Antonio growled in excitement. It had been while since he’d gotten such a good challenge himself. A talent like his made fights a bit of a snooze at times.
Ozaki at this point was working on shooing away the people who were wanting to stick around and watch. Frankly he wanted as few witnesses for the interrogation around as possible. He couldn’t see himself in a position to dissuade Oras from helping. He was mostly doing it for the kicks. Those were the hardest people to reason with.
Oras smiled. “Naturally.” The two continued their duel, only this time Oras was going from an entirely different perspective. His plan was to overload his opponent’s senses to the point where he couldn’t keep up with his choices, movements and changes. The easiest way to do that? Use his Elentros given gifts. Oras charged at the vampire but three feet away his body turned into fragments, moved directly to the right, finished the charge with his sword in his left hand instead, and struck at the man’s legs rather than his face. The vampire managed to dodge it at the last second, but Oras knew he wouldn’t be able to keep this up for long. He continued to manipulate his own body to his advantage as the duel continued. Due to him being more wild and reckless with his attacks, some of the vampire’s strikes from the sword got through his defenses, though Oras simply split his body apart where the impact would have been, letting the sword pass through harmlessly. His opponent wasn’t using any other talent, so he wondered if their secondary talent affected the body itself. If they were knowledgable as Oras guessed, they’d know his body worked completely different than others since his body was entirely made of ice. Meaning that if Oras kept up his random patterns to neutralize their primary talent, then he’d win before long.
Ozaki at this point had managed to get everyone out and was currently debating what to do. At this rate it was anyone’s guess who was going to win, though Oras was getting rather tricky. Then there would be an interrogation. And things would come out that Ozaki would very much rather no one know about. He doubted that the ice elemental would listen to anything he wanted in that regard.
He was just doing this for the kicks and for sheer curiosity. How would he react in finding the truth? Probably not think it was that big of a deal at all. He didn’t seem to so much as bat an eye at the concept of murder. Which in the case of him, was great. Because Ozaki had killed a few people himself.
Though this was assuming that Antonio would tell Oras anything at all even if he won…
While the technique Oras was using worked, the vampire was learning how to counter it rather quickly. Instead of focusing on his primary way to use his talent, he used his secondary method. While many didn’t consider it to be a sense, instinct was in fact among the six senses. Instead of focusing on what he was seeing, hearing and feeling, he focused on what his instinct was telling him. Thus, in a heartbeat, the tables turned. Oras noticed this too and realized he wasn’t going to win through trickery anymore. Thus it came down to a game of skill. And unfortunately for Oras, it was clear that his opponent had lived longer than he had. As the battle continued it was still a close fight. Oras spent his entire eighty plus years fighting, adventuring, and mastering his combat abilities, so he wasn’t rusty in the slightest. Not only that, but this vampire had no way to truly defeat Oras, seeing as how both of their weaknesses was fire.
On top of that he also had his own talent he could use.
Oras changed his ice structure to another form so that his ice would be harder than steel. Thus when his opponent swung his blade, Oras didn’t dodge, split or block it. He grabbed the blade with his bare hand. Seeing the surprise on the vampire’s face was priceless. After that Oras struck his wrist with the hilt of his blade, weakening his grip so that the atranoch could snatch his opponent’s blade and held his personal sword against the vampire’s neck, while the other was against his arms. A trick he learned to use in case the individual tried using their hands to escape. “And game.”
Antonio held still once he was held at sword point, a smile painted across his face. “A fine game indeed… I suppose you’ll be wanting to you your interrogation now. Out of respect from one swordsman to another I will give you the answers to any three questions you like.”
Ozaki was unable to hide his surprise at this. “Wait a minute, don’t I get any say in this?”
“If you beat me in a duel, sure.” Oras had made his intentions clear from the start, and had won. Yuuki might not want his past spilled to this man… But this was a man who, for whatever reason, had fought for the young vampire. Oras seemed the type to be far more dangerous if kept in the dark.
Ozaki’s hand momentarily gravitated to the pocket on his belt… But knew that was not exactly what qualified as a duel. These two people were far beyond his level to beat. He sighed, and his hands went to his pockets instead. Oras would likely find out the truth one way or another. He could perhaps knock Antonio out now and stop this. But knowing Antonio he’d just seek Oras out later if he did not perceive that as an actual duel… Which he wouldn’t. He sighed wearily in defeat, leaning against the table. There was no point in fighting. Even if his mind and every fiber of his being was egging him on… There was no point. He’d just loose. Ozaki's fists clenched tightly in his pockets.
Oras pulled the blades back, sheathing his own and handing the other blade back to the vampire since it was clear that, well. He wasn’t acting on malicious purposes. He listened to the man’s offer and Oras grinned. Sounded veeeeery familiar to a deal he had made with a being from surreality not long ago. Yes, he did figure it out thanks to that light show. How could he not have? At any rate he liked the concept, though he’d lay down more or less the same rules as before. Prior to his conditions of this little offer, Ozaki spoke up. Clearly shocked, and as Oras guessed, worried his own secrets might be spilt. The vampire however shot his statement down very quickly, showing he preferred combat over simple requests. Oras agreed with the vampire’s position… Kind of. He believed people should earn something not just have it be given. But he also understood that Ozaki’s chances of beating either of them with little if any combat experience were miniscule at best. At which point charity or compromises could be made. Oras usually did the latter.
“Now now, we shouldn’t just ignore his request. We’ll have a compromise: Ozaki, you can have a say in whether I learn it from your stalker, or you. Either way I’ll be finding out what’s going on, it’s only a matter of time. Something all three of us have plenty of.” He turned to the vampire he just beat and offered a handshake. “Name’s Oras. Not sure if you overheard me introduce myself to him or not. What’s your name?” He would ask. Afterwards he would get to business. “I’m gonna be blunt: I’m not stupid. I don’t have enough information to make a question worth asking, and so I’m laying ground rules: There is no expiration date on those three questions. I don’t have to ask them at any specific time. When I do ask them you cannot cop out and give me a red herring or ‘half truth’ answer. Full details and context. And finally, I can talk with you and ask anything I wish, but I’ll only be using one of my three ‘no shit, just answers’ questions when I make it clear that I am. Got it?”
“Antonio.” The vampire said, returning Oras’ handshake with a firm grip.
“Those seem like fair terms.” Antonio had no reason to truly despise or hide anything from Oras. With such conditions he would likely get to learn far more than those three questions had to offer. But it wasn’t as if Antonio was just going to refuse to speak to the man. Honesty was the best policy. He chafed slightly at the label of stalker, but could not rightly refute such a statement. Even with good purpose, that was what they were doing right now. “Though I cannot truly deny the claim of stalker, I would wish to elucidate the matter here and now as to why. Our Father only wishes to be sure that Yuuki remains safe, we’re here to protect him in case he either intentionally runs towards danger or lands himself in it.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~ So it was either he told him or Antonio would. And no half truths. As much as Ozaki would not like to admit it out loud- as far as revealing any part of his past he basically only ever spoke in half truths. He’d known Antonio back when he was human, and out of all the so called “protectors” in this gang, he was somewhat the most tolerable. He knew the man well enough that if he tried to answer with such things, he would likely not let it simply stand for that. Even on principle.
Ozaki had no doubt that Oras would find out the truth eventually. It was only a matter of time and determination, of which the atranoch clearly wasn’t lacking either. But still there was a strong feeling of resistance in him at having his past probed into like this. He just wanted it to stay in the past damn it.
But it could not and refused to stay there. Particularly now he had found his sire after all these years. For years the man had forgotten about his existence… Now he remembered and wouldn’t go the fuck away with these people.
He was tempted to lock this whole thing down as best as he could, making Oras scramble for answers in the dark. Already Antonio was giving away free information. “I never asked for your people’s protection. I’ve managed fifteen years just fine without you.” Ozaki found himself snarling the words. He usually did his best to try and appear civil and calm at all times. Fine was perhaps an exaggeration. But he had survived had he not? Was he not standing here right now as proof that?

Listening to the vampire agree to the terms he nodded with a smirk. Good, he was going along with it, showing some intelligence. Oras would be able to start investigating now, and whenever he reached a point where his own intelligence, wisdom and detective skills would never be enough he could easily make Antonio hand him the answers freely. When Antonio spoke again it was clear he didn’t like the term being used with him. Oras raised an eyebrow at his words however, as it was rather interesting to hear that their father would want… Yuuki his name was? To remain safe and protected in case he runs towards danger or lands in it somehow. At any rate… He smirked at the vampire. “Even so, watching someone constantly from the shadows is called stalking. If you step into the light you become a babysitter. Neither is rather fun to think of now is it? Besides they are terms used to describe an action. Don’t be such a pansy about it… Stalker~” he finished with a chuckle.
When Oza.. Yuuki, spoke up again. Not at all hiding his anger and frustration towards Oras. Instead of seeming offended, happy or something of that manner, he rolled his eyes in annoyance. He drew his sword and thrust it forward thrice, landing three cuts on the boy. One on his side. One on his neck, and one on his forehead. The third strike was a thrust directly to his head but stopped before it got any deeper than a rather shallow cut. “You handled it because you’ve been up against people who were either incompetent or didn’t really want to kill you. Or perhaps you had someone protecting you all along. Truth is you don’t have what it takes to solo anything kid. Not to mention that you have fifteen years of experience while I have a hundred. And I spent those hundred taking down corrupted governments, slaying ancient demons, purging lich cults, etc.” He gave the kid a glare that made it clear not to pull any of that ‘I don’t need you’ crap again. “So how about when someone offers you some assistance, you shut the hell up and accept the offer?”
After this he sheathed his sword and placed healing snow on Yuuki's wounds. In a second or two the tiny cuts were not to be seen.

As as most people from the gang went, usually Antonio did not bother hiding in the shadows when following Ozaki. He’d played both roles from time to time. “Orders are orders.” He simply grunted in response. While Oras was completely right, that did not mean Antonio liked it in the least.
When Oras drew his blade and sliced into Yuuki immediately Antonio did recognize that the wounds that were made were shallow. But the fact Oras thought that was in any way acceptable was audaciousness to the extreme. “Point your blade at him again and you’ll get to see my other talent when we lock blades next. And you can forget about any discourse outside of your allotted questions.” He growled thickly. He was not going to overreact like Mordred might… But he was going to warn him that such behavior was not to be accepted. There were lines to be drawn here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ The first two hit true, but Ozaki managed to dodge the last one. You know, Ozaki would love to say that the first wasn’t true. He’d dealt with people who had tried to kill him since the start. They had wanted to. His father really had.
But to be frank… The primary person who had been trying to kill him for fifteen years was indeed incompetent. If you faced him in open combat you would be sure to die. However if you avoided that or were able to outrun him and throw him off your trail… You were good.
Now that Ozaki was a fully fledged hunter Yuuto was hardly a danger. At least not so long as he didn’t have any surprises up his sleeve… Like last time. If Nyx and Shirone hadn’t been there he would have been screwed.
He’d also like to say that he hadn’t had anyone protecting him or watching his back. But then again. What were his bats there for? He regularly used them to keep track of targets of potential danger or find certain quarry. Ozaki had his ways of handling his problems. They were either run away, hide, or snipe them from a distance. He knew how to fight in close combat of course, but in comparison to older entities he did not stand a chance.
There was nothing wrong about what Oras was saying. So many people had tried to help him over this past month, and he’d shot every one of them down. He hadn’t wanted to endanger them. That wasn’t a risk with Oras… Though in a way it was. He was cocky and arrogant and that could get someone killed.
He didn’t want to accept Oras’ help. But this was beyond him. His current methods of handling his problems weren’t enough. He wanted to just say that Oras was being annoying and nosy like all the others. But like all the others he actually wanted to help. This had to be faced, and if he thought he could face it alone then he was the one being a stubborn annoying idiot.
“Alright then Fahrenheit 451.” Ozaki finally said, referring to Oras’ claims of toppling corrupt governments, and also applying the new nickname to the ice elemental fully well aware of the irony. The vampire palmed his phone in his pocket, momentarily wondering if he should call and see if Sharaku and Rika were available. Namely, the other people who had tried to offer their help at some point. People who he had been too stubborn to let them know what was going on when he was clearly in dire need of someone to help him. “I’ll accept.”
Those words… In the context they were spoken in felt foreign on his tongue. He wasn’t used to accepting help like this… Frankly for years he hadn’t even thought he was deserving of anyone’s help even if it was offered. But that… That wasn’t true was it?
Oras nodded when the vampire conceded, not arguing his point any further than he already had. Especially since his point was completely invalid, start to finish. It didn’t matter what the meaning behind it was, there was still a word for what he was doing. Oras noted Antonio’s dislike in the hard fact and just chuckled before shaking his head. When Antonio spoke up Oras rolled his eyes. “Oh shut up mamma bear. I healed his wounds didn’t I? I’m not stupid enough to kill him, I’m simply shattering that idiotic concept in his head that he can do stuff alone. Teaching him a lesson. Hey kid? I could have killed you with my first strike, just so we’re clear.” He hated overprotective people. They were so annoying to deal with. Why did they have to be so narrow minded about how everything had to be?
As for Ozaki, Oras wasn’t sure how skilled the men he was facing were, but comparing his skill level with the vampire he just fought. If they were really wanting to kill Ozaki they would have done it by now. Maybe the competent ones were wishing to stay in the shadows, or maybe they were simply toying with him. Either way, Ozaki was not in any danger because of this lack of skill. Eventually the kid spoke up again, calling him Fahrenheit 451, which caused Oras’ eyebrow to raise. “Gonna have to clarify what that is kid. Is that some new type of element or temperature? Cause I can go way be-…. Never mind.” He can’t just say that, it would give up one of the strongest traits of his talent. Especially when it could be used against these vampires.
“…Huh. I’m assuming that I’m not the only one who tried to get through that thick skull of yours. Otherwise you wouldn’t have let me in that easily right?” Oras looked over to Antonio. “Looks like we’re going to keep this dance of ours going a little longer anty. Maybe we can spar every now and then.”
Ozaki grimaced at the note that he could have killed him with the first strike. The vampire very well knew that. People like Oras were far beyond his skill level. “We’re clear.” He grumbled.
“Its a book about a government that’s banned books and employs “firemen” to burn them. Then about people rebelling against that government. Its a whole reference to your whole toppling governments… Thing. You keep saying.” Normally Ozaki would try to be polite about all this, not try to even imply that he was questioning Oras’ claims somewhat. But honestly? He was not in the mood to tip toe around people right now. He was so sick of always trying to play nice all the time, particularly when he was the one being constantly stalked. What person in their right mind would be in a damn good mood when nearly their every moment was being watched?
If Oras’ claims were true, that would be impressive. It was possible he could have done all that. He seemed to have the skill, but fighting skill did not equate to the skill to dismantle and reassemble a corrupt government . Ozaki took a mental note of when Oras back tracked. Did the ice elemental have fire power up his sleeve? That would be strange. But not the strangest thing he’d seen at this academy.
“Well… Yes… But it’d be fair to say you were a bit more… Persuasive.” They just wanted to listen, without the power or strength to do anything about it. There had been no point in them knowing. There was nothing they could do with the knowledge. Oras on the other hand, might be able to do something. Osaki didn’t want to accept his help. But as things were, he really wasn’t strong enough to make a difference where it counted. Not alone at least.
And Oras might not get himself killed within the first five minutes of the endeavor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I know. Still can't let it go without saying something at least." Yes. Antonio knew it was a bit over the top. But he was just covering his bases. Mordred could get a little homocidal when it came to family getting hurt. Anyone who killed one of his children ended up with both they and their family getting butchered. The fact Yuuki had been spared at all but instead turned was an anomaly. “Perhaps.” Antonio answered simply at the offer of future sparring. Could be fun.

Seeing the grimace on the kid’s face didn’t really make Oras flinch. He knew that he hated the fact, but it needed to be reminded to him. He needed to understand that he couldn’t do these things by himself. He needed to remember that he needed allies. Oras needed allies often too. It’s why he had a summoner. It’s why he tried to make connections whenever he returned to the world. When Ozaki started to explain what Fahrenheit 451 was Oras raised an eyebrow. “A government that banned books? Sounds like they were begging for a rebellion. That’s an easy target in my opinion.” Oras then turned to Antonio who said that he couldn’t let it go without at least saying something. Oras shrugged. “Whatever suits you, just know that it doesn’t really affect me or change my thinking… Or what I’ll do. If it will help him then I’ll do it. Look at the situation now: He’s accepted help from others after learning he can’t do this on his own. And those cuts I landed don’t even exist. Not even a scar. Figure the rest out for yourself genius.”
When Ozaki mentioned how Oras was a bit more persuasive but Oras didn’t really blink to that. “Any new information outside of that?” He took another sip of his chilling beverage before sitting down again, tilting the chair back and leaning his legs on the table. “So, if I’m going to be helping you out I need context and information. Namely: Why target them? Anyone in particular? Who are they? What are their skills, talents and history? And who else knows about this?”
