welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Was Oras really going to ask that in front of a member of the very organization Ozaki was supposedly targeting? Ozaki could almost guarantee Antonio would report everything that happened today directly to Mordred. The knowledge that his protectors undoubtedly doubled as spies for that man was enough to make his skin crawl.
“F-first of all. I’m not sure they’re so much a target for me… Let me answer your earlier question first. As to why I’m researching them in the first place… As you can see I’ve got a stalker or two from The Bloods. To protect me they say… That might be true. But for one. I never asked for that. And for another… I mean they’re obviously spying on my life. Reporting back to Mordred. Their boss, my… My Sire… Honestly I don’t think I want the lot of them dead. I’d let them be entirely considering…” Considering even if Mordred had done something awful to him, Meggi wouldn’t have wanted him killed. “Reasons… Its complicated.” And probably would sound stupid. His voice began to a waver a little, despite his attempts to try and hide how much he was freaking out. “Except they keep fucking following me everywhere and its driving me nuts.” He hated being followed, having more and more of his life exposed to the man who literally haunted Ozaki’s nightmares. Sure that man was only doing this to try and protect him apparently… But that didn’t change the fact that Ozaki was freaking the fuck out because. “So I’m researching to figure out more about them. And no. I’m not exactly wanting to ask the people who are stalking me for information on them. I don’t even want the lot of you here, why would I speak to you?!” He hissed the last part at Antonio, pupils thinning to slits as anger boiled in his gut again.
They weren’t going to hurt him. He knew that. If they were going to they’d have done it by now. But being constantly stalked by these people honestly made him so anxious at times he felt like throwing up. His workplace was the only place he was truly ever free from their constant vigilance, thanks to the inventory warehouse’s tight security. But he couldn’t stay there 24/7. How could Oras just be asking these kinds of questions in front of Antonio? He wouldn’t go away of course. But… Why?
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes… It was good that Yuuki was accepting help. Though less good that he was doing it in regards to potentially trying to take down their organization. Not that the two of them alone could. Though this man likely had allies beyond just his summoner. Still likely not enough to take all of them down.
He could take from Oras’ word that he wasn’t likely to kill Yuuki though… That’d go against the point of helping him after all. If Yuuki should be after any organization though, it should rightfully be the Church of Purity by Antonio’s reckoning… Though of course the kid had ample reason to hate the Bloods.
And this constant stalking clearly wasn’t doing them any favors either. Antonio quietly wondered what would happen if he just refused… Mordred would just get someone else to do it. He couldn’t get everyone to agree to say no. Plus there was genuine reason to be worried for the kid. It was just… This was clearly putting more pressure on him. The first couple of weeks he’d been flightier than a rabbit during hunting season.
This did not make them look good at all. “Sorry kid, but orders are orders. Father’s worried you’ll do something reckless with The Church and get yourself killed, so we’re here to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
He’d explained this to Yuuki before. And he knew it really wasn’t going to get through to him. He didn’t care. Just like Mordred didn’t care that Yuuki had told him he didn’t have plans to crash through their doors.
It was clear that Ozaki was nervous, but Oras personally didn’t really… Care. He wanted answers, and if he needed something double checked the vampire was here to help. In addition, the only thing Oras needed to keep hidden from the vampire was how they were going to take the organization down. He listened as the kid told him how he never asked for them to stalk and protect him which made Oras roll his eyes. “See this is another reason I call you a kid. Stop complaining please, especially when you’re explaining the context of an organization.” When he said Mordred and how he was their boss and his sire… “Aaaaah, so that’s how you’re related.” He looked over to Antonio. “So your boss’s name is Mordred? Good to know. Look forward to beating him senseless.” Ozaki then mentioned how he didn’t want them dead, and even leave them be. Oras saw hesitation in his eyes before he said it’s complicated. Oras flicked Ozaki on the forehead again.
“Then uncomplicate it. Listen, if we’re going out of our way to take down the leader of an underground criminal organization, we’re going the full mile. For all you know they may just replace Mordred with someone worse. We’re taking the whole group down. If you want I can try finding anyone who’s redeemable in any way… Antonio here seem’s like a good candidate for that. Hey Anty, how do you feel about not doing criminal stuff anymore?” When Ozaki mentioned how he refused to ask them any questions, Oras had grown tired of this. He stood up, grabbed Ozaki, and dragged him into a chair in the corner. He then put a dunce cap of ice on his head. “Should I start calling you a baby now too? No, you’re still smart….ish. More like toddler. You have access to more information that the books can give you everywhere you go, and you refuse to do so because of your childish stubbornness? You are a class A+ moron.” Oras looked over at Antonio. “Permission to slap him?” he asked sarcastically. When he was given it, he slapped Ozaki on the face with his hands of ice before he could react.
“If you’re doing this, you don’t have the luxury of ‘they’re stalking me, I’m not gonna ask him’. Freaking children.” Only after this did he back off from Ozaki. “Man.. No wonder you guys on this world are addicted to alcohol and smoking. You guys are enough to drive a deity insane.” He turned to look at Antonio. “Hey, if the kid gives you anymore stress, let me know. You can’t do anything, but I don’t see why I can’t smack the stupidity out of that brain. Maybe make him use those brain cells.” He turned to Ozaki before he could reply to this comment pointing a finger. “And don’t you even think about talking back. I can see that forming in your head, you just think for a few minutes. Let the adults talk… Oh Elentros above I sound like a parent. What are you two doing to me?”
Mordred was their boss. Yes. That was all over the books. This Mordred wasn’t exactly the most subtle of people, thought Ozaki. And yes, the primary reason to not outright kill him was that if you did, someone worse would take his place. Much worse. The gang did tend to get worse during his long periods of slumber without him around to keep them in check.
As Oras began his verbal tirade Ozaki felt himself increasingly ruffled by it. Enough so that his wings summoned unbidden, flaring out slightly. It was an action that somewhat resembled the action of a cat fluffing up its fur to seem bigger. Ozaki of course recognized what his wings were doing, what his body was doing. And realized it was stupid. What would being bigger even do against people who had decades of fighting experience on him anyways?
This guy was trying to help him. But damn was he annoying about it. His anger, already beginning to boil, was rising. He wanted to do something about this damn it. But there wasn’t a point. He couldn’t possibly win. He slapped the dunce cap off the top of his head, but other than that did not say anything. Ozaki was getting so fucking tired of this. He was tried of running and hiding. He did want to do something, but he couldn’t do it alone. And his best chance for help right now was this idiot asshole who was bragging about trying to take down a gang organization in front one of its members.
He swore to Artemis he wanted to blow the both of these jerks sky high right now… Probably could… Neither of them would see it coming from him. But he didn’t want to wreck the library, and killing one of Mordred’s children would land him in massive amounts of trouble. He had to remain calm. Lashing out wouldn’t do him any good.
Besides, it wasn’t like Oras was wrong. He was kind of being an idiot. But Oras also didn’t see the whole picture. Which of course he hadn’t. Ozaki hadn’t explained it to him. Nor was he feeling particularly charitable right now either… But he had to get over that.
Calm down. If he reacted right now it would only be regarded as a temper tantrum.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yah. No. As much as Antonio might not want to appear wishy washy on this matter. There was no way he was just going to sit back and silent while Oras talked about derailing his family’s organization. He may have gotten a good impression from their fight and the fact that he was more than willing to oblige to answer some of his questions. “I will not be participating in any such schemes to derail my family’s organization. The fact you think I would do so is an offense in on itself. I shall answer what questions you may have when you have to ask them, as you have earned said questions.”
But fact of the matter was Antonio was just as much a part of it as the rest of them. He was just stuck on… Well… Baby sitting duty now honestly. Babysitting a very angry fledgling that wanted nothing to do with them and was liable to vanish if he so much as sneezed. Speaking of which. He was looking a little flighty right now. Literally, the boy had summoned his wings and everything.
Antonio walked over to Yuuki and put a hand on his shoulder. Not so much as a companionable thing, but to keep him from physically running away. Plus, he looked rather close to loosing his shit.
He had said yes to the slap because frankly Oras had been right- Yuuki refusing so much as a word in from someone who was literally in the gang was stupid on his part. Even if Antonio might understand why. “But you are quickly draining my patience Oras.” He snapped. Undoubtedly Oras would come across the information he was looking for one way or another. However Antonio was not going to be as forthcoming as he might have otherwise been before this outright declaration of war.
Well. War was an overstatement given how many people were involved. But it was definitely a challenge.

Oras looked over at Ozaki to see that he wasn’t yelling back at Oras or standing up… Even though his eyes were screaming the opposite. When Antonio spoke to Oras, the glacier atranoch shook his head. “You’re misunderstanding me. I’m saying once we defeat Mordred and are in the process of taking down your organization you can either redeem yourself or go to jail with the rest of them. Though I’m fairly sure you’ll just sink with the lot of them after hearing that answer. At least you’re loyal.” When he told Antonio this, he didn’t speak with a mocking tone… At least he didn’t with the last sentence. He respected individuals who showed loyalty amidst a corrupted world… Even if they were criminals. Oras was going to tear them all to the ground, no doubt about that. But he felt bad that Antonio would be so loyal to a pack of criminals, and not people with a good heart… Buuut moving on.
When Antonio spoke about losing his patience Oras just grabbed a chair and sat down. “Oh chill out idiot. We’re not fighting yet. I’m suggesting we have a truce until the fighting starts. Right now we’re getting to know one another, so lighten up!” He turned to look at Ozaki. “As for you, how about we fix this little stubbornness of yours right now. From what I’ve heard you have a great deal of questions that his organization can answer you. Well he’s right here: So ask away. I swear I will not interrupt… Unless a stupid question or answer is given.”

“You can ask your questions later Yuuki.” Antonio said in a steely tone, seeing right through the likely ploy Oras was playing. He only got three questions but Yuuki got as many as he wanted. Clever to try and take advantage of that. Perhaps there was some genuine part of him that was trying to keep Yuuki from shutting down on one of his stubborn streaks that went a mile wide.
But there was of course also the part that was trying to get as much information about the Bloods as possible in order to bring down their organization. Antonio would personally rather not dictate Yuuki’s social life on top of following him when he didn’t want to be followed. But associating with a man who had stated such a challenge could only bring trouble. Particularly if Mordred actually took the threat seriously. If he did, may Artemis have mercy on the man before him.
He seemed like a decent person with incredible skills, if his stories were true. If they could get him to focus his attentions on The Church of Purity rather than his own organization, he’d be useful. Perhaps if Antonio willfully came forward with the Yuuki’s story he might be able to at least divide Oras’ attention or forestall him going after them.
No matter what they were still a criminal organization, heedless of their purpose for being this was a man who would seek to tear them down. Mordred did not take kindly to having his family threatened. To Oras this was a game, to Mordred such a declaration would be cause to unleash himself fully on him.
Nothing short of killing him would stop such a man, he could see it in his eyes. But why kill him when he could be useful? The truth alone could disarm a man if wielded correctly.
~~~~~~ For a moment he wondered why Antonio was keeping him quiet on asking questions. But that was pretty obvious if he thought about it. He wasn’t going to give Oras as free access to information as he might to Ozaki. Oras had no idea how dangerous a game he was playing right now. Ozaki had been doing research for hours on such a man. And honestly this point it was more surprising Mordred had left him alive than the fact he had turned him.
Really he shouldn’t be getting mad at them though, Ozaki thought to himself. Oras was trying to help him, as had multiple people. And he’d been too stubborn to accept it until the ice atronoch had come around. Not to mention he’d been thinking way too small until now. Just killing Yuuto? That was only one person, the whole damn Church was still out there killing people supposedly in the name of the law. The majority of the public perception was warped to favor them, for on the surface they did have the noble goal of protecting humanity. But their methods of doing so were a perversion of justice and cruel.
No wonder Mordred had thought he was going to charge into the Church of Purity. In the end what would killing one man truly do? It’d make Ozaki feel a hell of a world of better. So he’d still do it. He wouldn’t need help with killing Yuuto heedless of what Mordred or anyone else thought. Granted it’d be a damned sight easier but… He still didn’t want it.
Frankly he did hate Mordred with all his guts. But at least for now he did not want to tear down the organization Meggi had called home. Though his hesitation in that regard was beginning to wane. Perhaps he shouldn’t be mad though? They were trying to protect him. They weren’t really stopping him from doing anything in his life. Yet anyway. It was still annoying though.
Ozaki brought a hand up and drew his fingers through his hair. This little thing had been more like a break between his obsessive preparations for that… Really there was only so much he could do by this point. He had everything mapped out, he just needed the chains made and then it’d be good to go. It was just taking time for the black smith he’d hired to make them to finish them up.
For now Ozaki was going to need to do his best to get over himself. And all this senseless anger was getting him no where. But damn it all if it didn’t get frustrating sometimes.
“I want to clarify…” He was ready to dodge this time if Oras came at him with anything. He wasn’t just going to be a sitting target for this. He wanted to make something very clear. Because if Antonio reported that he might actually be on Oras’ side for this he was going to be in massive amounts of trouble. Like, their second time meeting would look like a handshake in comparison amounts of trouble. He didn’t think Mordred would kill him… But there were worse things than dying. “If I had a target I don’t think it would be them. They may have been responsible for ripping my human life away from me… But so far as being persistent threat, I’d say The Church of Purity is the greater evil in this case.”
Oras looked at Antonio in slight confusion before he realized what the man must be thinking. And to that thought he just laughed. “Wow you’re stupid. You realize I can easily talk to him later about your discussion right? If we’re working together it would make sense. If you didn’t want me to learn certain things, you should have me killed or place a mile thick wall between us.” His laughter dropped to chuckling. “You guys really are stupid aren’t you? No, no don’t take too much offense to that, nearly everyone is that stupid. I just needed a laugh this week.” He listened to Ozaki speak next, not interrupting this time. When he finished Oras nodded. “Well first of all, hats off to you for stating a valid point: The Church is a more consistent threat. Glad to hear that. However let me offer a question: Who is the greater power?”
He paused to let the question process in his head before continuing. “Even if they are not directly associated with one another, criminal organizations and families do have one hold or another over others. So the question is, who has a hold on who?” He conjured ice figurines to look like evil priests, and ice figurines to look like cliché vampires on the floor. The ‘priests’ were in greater number. “Suppose for instance that this is the church, and this is.. What was the name of your organization Antonio? The Dum’b’asses? Even if the church is bigger in numbers, if the Dum’b’asses’ leader is more powerful, intelligent, or even more charismatic, he can easily influence the Church in everything they do. In addition to this, it could work vice versa. Furthermore, one group could have a resource that the other one is in desperate need of, and thus that can give them more power over the other. So: Which organization has a stronger hold over the other?”
And just like that any sort of amusement or camaraderie Antonio might have felt towards the fellow swordsman was gone in an instant. “I would say it is you who is the fool here… Assuming I’d Yuuki here anywhere near you after this.” His hand clenched tighter on Yuuki's shoulder. He did do his best not to control Yuuki’s life too much. He was here as a shadow, not a tyrant. But being associated with someone who had stated an outright challenge to The Bloods organization… No. Antonio could not permit this to pass further. Even if Oras might be convinced to switch targets at some point in this conversation.
Killing him wasn’t off the table as an option. The only reason Antonio wasn’t trying it now was because it simply wasn’t a great location. Anyone could come into this library at any time. Potential witnesses. The cameras here would not catch him, but even if there weren’t people here right now there were those who could place him at the scene of the crime fighting with the man before it happened. Simply enough, if they were going to kill him it would have to be later, and with a few more people to be sure they could get the job done without fatalities on their end.
A mile thick wall, at least in the proverbial sense, was possible.
He would have to impress upon Yuuki the urgency of not affiliating with such a man. Antonio had no doubt of the boy’s ability to at some point slip away from his watchful eye. He had done it multiple times already as it was. So it was vital to not simply hope that such a thing come to pass, but fully explain the potential consequences.
Mordred did not take kindly to threats to his family. And while he would not kill Yuuki for plotting against them that did not mean there would not be considerable punishments coming his way. As of now Antonio could see that Yuuki had not really asked this man to get involved, he had simply involved himself on his own accord. For his own amusement. For him this was nothing more than a game.
For now Antonio was willing to gamble that with a man interested in playing the hero and taking down “the big bad” could be at least momentarily distracted. “As much as I loathe to admit it, the Church has us beat in the power department. The best way we have of surviving is by sticking to the shadows.” Antonio used his talent to mask the presence of the vampire on the table from sight, obscuring it from view with a shadowy void. The shadow itself could be seen, but where it was within the murk could not.
When Oras was done with his tirade he spoke again. “The Church wants nothing more from us than our species eradication. And we nothing from them.”
He was about done with Oras now… All there was to see was how the bait had landed. If Oras really had the skill sets he claimed to have it would be better to point him in the direction of their enemy than have him on their tails. He would have been fine if Yuuki had worked side by side with such a man in taking down the Church... At the very least he wouldn't be trying to do it on his own. But he'd proved himself a liability to the family, Antonio couldn't risk Yuuki and Oras getting too close again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ozaki could feel Antonio’s grip tighten slightly at the mention of Oras just getting the information from him later. Ozaki didn’t even need a whole conversation to tell him that that was a bad idea.
Was Oras seriously going to continue provoking the man? Was he suicidal? Then again, ice elementals were surreal creatures. Being killed just meant they lost their physical form and had to be summoned again. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal for him. But if he had wanted to collect information on The Bloods he was doing the absolutely wrong thing.
He had beaten the man in a duel, but it sounded like Antonio hadn’t even been using both of his talents in that match. Oras was courting death here, given the hours of research he had done Ozaki knew that more than well enough. He was hesitant to speak right now… But so long as he kept from mentioning anything about The Bloods, it… Should be fine?
“More charisma than a cult leader… I highly doubt it.” He’d mutter. A particularly virulent cult could talk a starving family out of their last penny and genuinely make them believe that it was for their own good.
Frankly… Ozaki did not particularly wish the criminal organization to be disbanded. For one it wasn’t what Meggi would have wanted. And for another it wasn’t like he could cast stones on the crime department…. Though it was nothing on the level of gang crimes he’d note…
Ozaki himself would personally say the Church was much more powerful than The Bloods hands down. The only way The Bloods survived their reign was, like Antonio said, living in the shadows. The Church had power and charisma if not intelligence… That part was hard to say. Ozaki had never really gotten that far in it, so he wouldn’t really know their inner workings.

Oras rolled his eyes when Antonio made his warning, as well as gripped Yuuki’s shoulder more tightly after that. Oras crossed his legs, clearly not amused, concerned or fearful. In fact he looked confident, a cold flame in his eyes. “Hey, he’s an idiot but he is growing up. You can’t control him forever, especially now that he’s moved out and gotten a job. You realize I could easily tell anyone in faculty that someone is stalking him right? Even if they didn’t believe me they would at least be suspicious enough to be more wary of their surroundings. In addition you can’t really stop me from talking to him. Only he can do that. And since he’s agreed that he needs my help, I doubt that is going to happen. Take a hint Antonio, some things are just out of your hand. So you have two choices: Fight me on this matter and lose. Or admit it’s no use and save us all the hassle. Though who knows, it might be amusing to see you put up a fight. Goodness knows most of the idiots this age can’t put one up.”
He really didn’t like people who actively or attempted to control what others did, and other aspects of their lives. In other words, he hated manipulative individuals. He didn’t think Antonio was an outright manipulator, but he was under that category. Instead of actively fighting Oras who was challenging them, he was trying to cripple him by manipulating Yuuki, who was his gate to the group. Luckily for Oras, Yuuki wanted to take them down, or at least the leader, and wanted to work with Oras to do it. That not only gave Oras every reason to fight Antonio on this, but it also meant that his way in would be fighting this little decision of his too.
He folded his hands together as he thought about what was being said in regards to the Church and his Organization. How the Church has beaten them in the power department, and how they must stick to the shadows to survive. How the Church wants nothing more than to eradicate them. To this Oras smirked but didn’t say anything. He forgot if he knew this Church back in his prior time here, but he knew never to trust anyone based on appearance. And after fighting this guy, a skilled vampire. He doubted the Church would have as much skill and power against them. In addition, power meant nothing if you could outsmart them. And these guys clearly were the latter at the very least. What's more, the guy was trying to convince Oras that his group was weak by comparison. He didn't seem the type to admit that under normal conditions. Oras grinned and gave a chuckle. “You’ll need a lot more than that to convince me. In fact, I’m rather confident that your own organization is really the better half. This should be interesting indeed… Well then. How about we take a break for now then? Yuuki, where would you prefer we meet up? It can be a neutral area, or your room if you think this guy will try chaining you down. We are partners but I’ll let you pick the area.”

There was one place those in The Bloods still could not follow him. High security meant even Antonio’s shadow stalking technique- which he might end up using more now- fell flat. But it wasn’t like he could just tell Oras to meet him there. Just getting into inventory took a key that was magically linked to only work for one person. Then going through a door frame that wouldn’t even lead to the right place unless you used the particular key you needed. Allowing another person entry took a special incantation, otherwise they’d just be bounced back. There were a few other security measures.
Then again… They were vampires. Just meeting in a building they weren’t invited to would… Still only grant them temporary privacy. There were ways to get an invitation to places. The fact Antonio was here was proof of that.
He of course hadn’t invited any of the Bloods vampires into his apartment. So it would be a free area. But the problem wasn’t privacy- it was even being seen with him. Ozaki genuinely disliked that he was going to probably look chicken shit right now. But Antonio’s non-verbal sign was as clear as day. Stay away from him.
Mordred did not take well to threats to his family, and even if Ozaki happened to be one… He wasn’t going to risk the wrath of that man. “Probably not the best idea to meet up.” Ozaki muttered, not meeting Oras’ eyes.
~~~~~ There was a third reason Oras was completely forgetting. Antonio wasn’t alone in this. He did not have to fight Oras alone if he was going to loose. He could also add in his second talent during the second round. In honorable combat he normally preferred to avoid outright blinding his opponent. But surely even Mordred would understand if he played dirty in regards to a man who had directly threatened his family…
Still better to play it safer than sorry.
If Oras reported that they were following Yuuki that’d be problematic… But there were other methods they could use to keep an eye on him if they absolutely had to. He could also simply shadow stalk someone. But given this was a school for hunters, he wouldn’t put it past someone to see past such a trick.
Antonio watched Oras’ expression as he took in the bit about The Church. So he hadn’t so easily taken the bait. What a shame. He figured it wouldn’t be so easy. If Oras’ claims were legitimate in his capabilities he was better off taken out before that could happen. But later.
He as glad that Yuuki had picked up the hint to avoid this man. The kid was part of the family. Which meant that he wasn’t going to get killed if he did something. That didn’t mean that there wouldn’t be big trouble though. Antonio had done all he could to avoid controlling Yuuki or influence his life any more than simply being around did. But this was one thing he could not look past. Then again.. Nor could he look past the fact that their stalking protection of him was only increasing the boy’s animosity towards them. He’d have to have a talk with Mordred about that as well as Oras.
“I don’t try to control his life. But I cannot look past an outright challenge such as what you just issued.” He’d call it a declaration of war, but that would be a bit over the top for one man. “The one thing I do agree with is our parting though. Lets go Yuuki.” He started leading Yuuki out of the library by the shoulder. The boy was going along with him, but the sight and feeling of Yuuki’s muscles tensing under his hand was unmistakable.
