welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

“Of course not- we’re running a business here.” The werewolf said as he lit up a cigarette took a drag from it. They thus far had not even bought anything from him. If they wanted information, they'd have to pay for it. He honestly did not care why they were after this "friend" of their's. He may have seen a vamp or two pass by here, but he wasn't going to just tell them out of the goodness of his heart.
~~~~~~~~
Yah. Probably should have kept his mouth shut. Sharaku had had it handled. He really wasn’t used to dealing with this criminal side of things. Which was funny considering who his sire was. He was just going to let Sharaku take the lead for this interaction.
The Vamp Wolf | Well, given the circumstances at hand, it was clear enough that’d they wouldn’t get anything worthwhile without forking over more money. Which he would rather not have to do right away. One way or another, they didn’t have anything else to use as a leverage, given that neither of them were in for the criminal life. Not actively in any way at least. Though to be honest, why would something like that even be assumed by default just because one was a visitor here? A murdered who came by could be a complete novice with drugs, and vice versa. Same went for the other types of crimes. Sure, a few dabbled in everything, but the majority was likely only knowledgeable about the things they personally did.
He’d shrug casually, after having given it a bit of thought. “Well, that is indeed a shame. Maybe we’ll check by later though…” It wasn’t worth it at the current moment. They could look themselves first, and besides even if they did get the werewolf to tell them whether he has seen any vampire and where they headed…? Depending on where they went, they might not be able to get to them anyway, and if they were wandering the halls, they’d find them in time even without being told.
As for the drugs…they could still hope to ask directly about what they were after, but that was kind of a last resort, especially if the man knew and wasn’t keen on mentioning it because it could get them in a bit of trouble on spot. It was an option for later were they to find absolutely no other lead though. “Let’s go look around more first, shall we..?” |
“Yah.” Ozaki muttered, as he started walking on past the drug dealer’s door, once more wishing he could have been of more help in that scenario. The best thing he could have done was simply to step aside and let Sharaku handle it though. Mild mannered Yuuki didn’t have what it took to deal with these sorts of people. That was every inch what he was trying to be, given what the alternative was.
He had come on this misadventure to try and distract himself from his own problems though… Of course though… If he were truly trying to do that going back to a place he’d felt he had had no choice but to come to when he was homeless. He wasn’t a kid any more. Surely he could do better than he had back then. Ozaki had to be of some help…
And he would. There’d be other chances.
Eeeyup. Sharaku might be able to change their outer appearances, but even if he made Ozaki look the part he certainly wasn’t acting it. What would acting the part even mean in this case when they were trying to conduct an investigation? He didn’t want to provoke a fight while they were here after all. Though at the same time if he looked like too easy of a target that could start a problem too… But again what exactly was he supposed to do except just handle a problem when it came up?
“Possibly.” Ozaki muttered in a quiet voice after they passed the door of a whore that tried to call out to them. “If aaah… Well if a werewolf is selling that stuff it probably isn’t for a good reason. No offense.” Sharaku was half werewolf after all.
“If he’s alone in that room I could dart him pretty quickly and we could look for ourselves though.” A big assumption. If he wasn’t then there could be trouble. He could give Sharaku some sedative darts to handle them but… they’d have to be quick if it were to work. Plus, they did not even properly know what they might be looking for.
The Vamp Wolf | “Whether he’s normally selling it or not is probably not the point anyway…I don’t think it was any of the ones he listed. If he does own it, it’s probably not something he’s offering to whoever passes by. It’s not like you can really use it for a good reason…” He’d shrug there. Maybe the man had it, maybe he didn’t. “Even if he doesn’t have it, he might know about it at least, which would require conversation rather than putting him to sleep…” Aka, the most tricky thing of them all.
“I’d mostly be worried over him not wanting to assist vampires, and especially given this drug is against them…I could maybe try to bluff a good reason by myself, but with a full vampire in tow, I don’t think he’d take anything I say seriously.” After all, at the end of the day, one would expect him to have to choose who to side with. You can’t be both on the vampire and werewolf side given they were against each other. It was impossible to pretend if he was hanging out with vampires while trying to though. He’d make a laugh out of himself that way. There wasn’t much else he could think of though. Go back by himself and act like he was with the vampire only because he had to and snuck away to talk for real? Yeah right… |
“I can control how much of the sedative I use… Which means he could potentially be awake and not shout out for help.” A bit on the risky side though. the sedative did have a calming effect, meaning he might be too out of it to try and get help. Calling out for help wouldn’t normally work too well in a place like this, but the place did employ security gaurds of a sort that would at least momentarily investigate to see if a paying client was in trouble with another. In which case the aggressor- or potentially just both of them would be tossed out. Depended on how much effort the security guard wanted to put in.
Being tossed out would be amongst one of the more civil options. “Still risky though.. Maybe if we part ways you might have better luck with the next drug dealer you come across? Or if you went back to that guy without me…” Probably wouldn’t work.” I could look into other things while you do that.” Parting ways was a pretty dumb idea, Ozaki knew that. But they both could handle themselves. He just needed to stop being an anxious mess. He had highly effective weapons that could end a fight before it even got the chance to really escalate.
The Vamp Wolf | “If he doesn’t want to tell us anything, he’s not going to do it just because of a sedative. Unless you carry something like a truth serum on you, I don’t think it makes a difference as to whether he’s awake or not.” Most likely, he’d want to say even less if they tried dirty methods to coerce him. Unless he believed they’d kill him for not cooperating or something and even that was a question, but to do that here? That’d just be dangerous for anyone who doesn’t want any traces or witnesses, and the man probably knew as much.
He’d rub at the bridge of his nose with a huff. “To be fair, it’s questionable either way. The main issue is probably that those who do know about the drug or even have it would be leery of saying anything to a vampire. Which doesn’t exactly rule me out anyway.” Maybe he’d have a slightly better chance, but he wouldn’t have an easy time proving it to people like these. “If we come across someone who can’t tell what we are easily, then it technically shouldn’t matter. I suppose it’s up to you whether you want to risk splitting up or not…..” He had no issue with handling himself, but there was also the fact that if either of them got held up or into trouble, meeting back up might become troublesome. He wasn’t about to get himself killed, however separating could put a dent in their teamwork were something to go wrong. |
“Not so much.” Ozaki muttered in mention of a truth serum. Such an idea would be probably a good one of course… And that was theoretically one he could do on his own. It was mostly a matter of picking the right drug or potion to imitate that actually worked as a proper and good truth serum.
“Though if you can grab eye contact with someone for long enough and hook them with hypnotism its generally works to the same effect anyways.” Should have thought of that back when they were talking to the werewolf really. Greaat. It wasn’t like they were super resistant to it either, even given their instinctual rival natures. He wondered if Sharaku had access to that power, being a hybrid and all.
Ozaki mused on whether they should or should not split up. His gut said no. But his gut was admittedly being a tad cowardly in this scenario. Albeit there were worse things to be seen as… But this would be the place to act like that, right? Except Sharaku would know it wasn’t really an act if he went that way. EEggh. Emotion sensors were the worst sometimes. Sharaku could probably sense all of this. While he might not understand the underlying reasons for it... He could sense it still.
“Probably should just do that to the next aah.. Business person we talk to. Most people will likely recognize what I am just by looking at me what I am though.” Vampires were kind of obvious if they didn’t take efforts to disguise themselves given their elongated fangs and pale skin. “Though it would be safer to stick together."
Whether or not Sharaku was acting more the part here, Ozaki couldn't just leave a student on their own in a place like this. It'd be irresponsible. Yes. That was totally the reason, and he was sticking to it.
The Vamp Wolf | “Somehow…I doubt that a werewolf wouldn’t know about that. Unless he’s clueless despite being in a business like this, he probably wouldn’t go staring a vampire in the eye for long.” That’d be far too easy, he was sure of that. Maybe if they caught someone who didn’t have any reason to know enough about vampires to be aware of such a trick, but a werewolf? Someone like that was almost guaranteed to know of it, and doubly so given the type of business he was dealing in here. Can never be too careful doing this not so legal type of trading. “Maybe it’d be a more lucky try with someone else though…” At least theoretically.
Either way, he really wasn’t paying a lot of mind to what the vampire was feeling about this. Being capable of it did not mean he had to do it all the time. It could be tricky seeing as he had to kind of focus on people when conversing with them, but that did not mean he had absolutely no control over it. Right now, it wasn’t something he wanted to bother with on top of all the other things, and besides, he was aware that it’d be sort of rude to constantly do that.
“Well, if you’re not with me, then yes they probably would….” Outside of the few who weren’t familiar enough with vampires. That being said, while he could put up appearance illusions, it wouldn’t work were they to be away from each other, so there was that to consider. Though if they kept running into people who could tell what they were simply by scent, then luck wasn’t going to be on their side anyway. He’d shrug. “Anyway, I suppose it technically is safer, assuming we don’t just sabotage each other.” They weren’t exactly in tune when it came to this type of work, apparently. He wasn’t sure how to feel about the fact that the guy suggested to come to this place for investigation, but wasn’t quite acting like he knew what he was doing. If that was the case, maybe they would have been better off not having come around immediately with no preparations. In a way it was amusing, but he also hoped he wouldn’t have to regret telling the vampire about this. |
“Mmm. Yah.” Ozaki said with a little nod to the fact that they’d likely avoid eye contact for too long. It might pay off well to have more drugs in his arsenal… But the draw back to his talent, combined with the fact that being a vampire meant that anything that was in his system lasted ten times longer made it tricky.
“One of these fresh blood trails might lead to something… But might not be a vampire.” All of this was a shot in the dark, and in the darkest of places. There were others they could go to after this. He had thought of a few places by now that he himself had gone. Not great places to hide, at least he doubted Sharaku would think they were. But if you were in a stupid panic and not thinking clearly… They were options.
They were just wandering aimlessly hoping to find someone.
Ozaki suddenly recalled with Sharaku’s third comment, that right. He did have his perception manipulations. He’d of course known… But it had just so happened the first two people they had run into were not liable to be tricked by such things. A Dreamweaver and a werewolf. But not everyone would have a way to see past Sharaku’s perception manipulation.
“I’ll do my best not to mess things up.” Ozaki commented at the last part. “Though, can you hypnotize people if I may ask? I only ask because I know… Well sometimes hybrids can’t do things the full type can. And we might get answers faster that way.”
He, however, would have to step up a lot more if Sharaku could not use hy. Which would mean potentially acting in ways he’d rather not be seen doing. But really… If they were going to be getting anywhere here, he’d have to get his hands a little dirty. He was just… Wary of doing so in front of anyone. But surely the safety of those other vampires was worth a little blow to his pride. He was just nervous about it was all. Particularly acting like that in front of someone from Eldritch Academy… Then again if Sharaku was hiding their appearance he doubted he wanted any of this getting back to the academy either.
Perhaps he could trust the were-vampire to have some measure of discretion. He had been in part playing on the shyer side not simply because of where they were, but who he was with. "A question though... If I may. Might be a dumb one, but I have to ask anyways... Whatever we do here, can I count on your discretion to not go spreading it around the school?" He'd hate to loose his job or image at the place he held so close to his heart.
The Vamp Wolf | His expression would fall into a mild displeased frown at the mention of hypnotizing people. “….I can, but….” He didn’t really want to. That was one of the things he did not enjoy doing, and it was not his style either. He preferred making people talk in a more natural way, rather than just resorting to basically playing puppeteer. There was no real accomplishment behind that. He’d sigh. “I normally try not to do it, but if I really have to, I suppose I could.” He’d consider it a distasteful choice of action to take with people right away, but he couldn’t say no if the other wanted to. It’d be a little unfair of him to ask the guy to risk more than he was willing to in a situation like this, albeit he would have thought someone working at the school ought to be able to handle that too.
When the subject changed to spreading rumors around the school, he’d raise an eyebrow with a vague shrug. “Why would people be interested in some rumors about you anyway…? That said, is there a reason why it’d be such a problem? It’s not like you’re doing this because you’re actually interested in murder or becoming a drug addict….” He didn’t exactly see the big deal, as long as information didn’t get twisted around, of course. In all seriousness however, he had no real intention of saying anything, unless it became important for some reason. He was never the one to gossip just because he could. When he brought matters up, it was because they were of important enough relevance to whatever was being currently discussed or dealt with. It was rare for him to speak of this type of stuff without any good reason prompting it.
That conversation aside, it would seem they weren’t the only ones hanging around the halls, as there was a roguish looking man leaning against the wall in the direction they were heading to. The guy had been staring at a lit match in his hand, but seemed to have noticed them coming that way, looking towards them with passing interest now. Great…though maybe someone who wasn’t just a business-minded seller would be a better person to talk to…? Who knew. Whoever this guy was, he was an odd one. Dressed like what you’d expect from a homeless pickpocket on the streets, with a few colorful feathers pinned to his hair like a makeshift hat, and playing around with a flame on a match? Perfectly presentable…except not so much?
“Anyway…do we plan to talk to everyone we pass..?” |
Sounded like Sharaku would be hesitant to stoop to hypnotism. Ozaki had used it on more than enough occasions that he had less reservations. If this were at the school he’d hesitate. That was reserved solely for emergencies in that case. But outside of that context? Well he couldn’t really say if he was more or less liberal with its usage than the average vampire. But it was one of the main things he relied on when harvesting blood. So… There was that. "No good reason to worry in that case I guess." Ozaki just tended to worry about such rumors a lot...
They’d already passed at least one whore that had tried to call out to them, so Ozaki would say that that wasn’t the case at all. That they’d talk to everyone. “Well we already passed up that whore back there, so not everyone…” But this guy was already looking at them. “But maybe this guy…” He muttered.
Ozaki was currently wishing he wasn’t feeling his social awkwardness particularly hard right now. But with the knowledge that Sharaku wasn’t going to be spreading around any of how he acted here he might be able to get a bit more out of his head… This still wasn’t his kind of crowd though. “Hey.” He grunted as they started approaching the man.
“Yaha.” Ozaki agreed, scratching at the back of his hair. He certainly would not have been able to go along easy with that either.
Okay. Just be cool. You can act casual in a place like this, not like Sharaku’s going to go talking around the school about it.
“Been a few years since I had the… Pleasure of being here.” Ozaki gestured to the littered, filthy hallway with a lazy spiral of his hand, making eye contact with the man then. Odds were Sharaku had already probably figured out he’d probably been here at least once before. Even if he hadn’t, they were trying to figure out information. Bending the truth or outright lying even, was to be expected.
