welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

I should probably mention there are certain requirements for getting in… I’ll explain more if you’re able to. If not, sorry for wasting your time.
Ozaki knew Sharaku wouldn't like him being vague. But in this case he did not feel like he could risk being straight forward without first knowing Sharaku too was... Qualified... To walk through the doors of that building.
Hotel 66 was a shady place in the shadiest part of down. It was a place filled with whores, murderers, druggies, drug peddlers, and murderers alike. All the buildings in the area were all a little run down. Broken windows, bottles of broken glass littering the streets. The occasional needle laying abandoned, having just missed the trash can.
One would think that anyone could just stroll right in book a room. One would be wrong. The door was painted dull faded red, the paint itself a combination of regular paint, lamb’s blood, myrrh, and ground up human bones. The building itself was near covered in Deadman’s Crossing Ivy, a breed not native to Mysterie. All of these were the set up to a potent barrier spell. Anyone who knew such ritualistic spells would spot it in an instant. They, however, would not know what the conditions for entry would be. Those were dictated by the owners of the establishment.
When Ozaki first came here he had not recognized all the ingredients. But now he was here he could smell the lamb’s blood within the paint, see the ruby red leaves of Deadman’s Crossing Ivy. When he had entered the building the first time by invitation he had been fretful that he might be in trouble… But he was assured, Ozaki was recalling… That only one guilty of a serious crime would be able to cross the threshold.
Not something petty and small like shoplifting of course. Like murder, illegal drugs, prostitution… Those kinds of things.
Ozaki had opted to not care about his pursuers this time around. The odds of them recognizing Sharaku at this age was near impossible. And they were mobsters. Why would they care if he was going into a place like Hotel 66? They weren’t exactly approaching him to talk anyways, these ones were a bit more sneaky than the previous ones. Whatever.
He couldn’t be freaking out about them forever. He had too much on his plate as it was without trying to regularly dodge gangsters following him. They were only there to be sure that he did not get himself killed in his pursuit of Yuuto. That was it.
Ozaki needed to save his energy for what they’d have to face in Hotel 66. If the gangsters decided to follow him inside at least it would take them a few minutes to secure an invitation… Though probably not that long. The owners were more than happy to accept guests after all.
He had been a bit nervous on his way over of seeing Sharaku again, but opted to try his best to ignore that. Last time they had not split on good terms. But they had an actual serious goal to focus on this time. Not something as mind numbing as repeatedly washing unicorns and mucking out stalls. This was something he could focus on.
If Sharaku sensed any weirdness from him… Well if there was one thing he could take from their previous encounter it was the knowledge that Sharaku might sense what he was feeling, but not why. So long as he did not panic, things should be fine. He was just hoping that the owners didn’t recognize him from last time and out him… That’d be awkward. But he’d still rather not be alone here, even if it was for a good cause.
The were-vampire had gotten here before him. Ozaki having dragged his heels just a tiinnny bit on the way here he'd admit. This wasn't a nice place.

The Vamp Wolf | After a bit of deliberation on the matter, he would have just sent the guy the smiling poop emoji in response to that. It would have definitely made things simpler to know instead of walking in blind, but it wasn’t like he couldn’t find out later on even if the vampire tried to just not tell him. It wasn’t some big secret he couldn’t figure out, was it now?
The place didn’t look like a good vacation spot, that much he could say one he had gotten there. While he had quite a tolerance when it came to lower standards of living, he didn’t think he’d want to stay here under normal circumstances…or any for that matter. He’d wager it sounded better to just dig a hole and hide underground like a worm than come here. The types of people that gathered in areas like this weren’t to his fancy either, honestly. Boy did this place fucking stink though. He almost regretted having a wolf’s sense of smell right now, because it was all kinds of unpleasant to breath in air here.
He’d sigh as he rubbed the bridge of his nose, while he waited outside for the vampire to arrive. He didn’t have to wait too long, luckily enough, turning to face the guy as he crossed his arms over his chest with a frown. He wasn’t sure how much he was looking forward to this. If anything though, at least he could be happy that he probably fit in here decently well. He did look like a bit of a mess with his currently frazzled appearance, complete with messy hair and circles under his eyes as if he hadn’t slept for a good couple days.

A fair, if not slightly childish response. The fact Ozaki was omitting something very important that might end up in wasting Sharaku’s time entirely was bad on his part. Very bad.
Also bad was that he had said he might only need a small sample of their blood… That actually more varied on whether or not they were still highly under its effects or not. If they were at least partially, then 500 ml might do. But if not, well then he’d need more. And then he’d need to stash himself away somewhere where when the drug did hit, he couldn’t hurt anyone.
Normally he’d pull Olivia in on him testing out a new drug… But he really did not want to pull her and her child in on something that would make him go feral. Plus it would likely take her at least a week to clear her schedule the amount of time that would be needed.
Ozaki did have a bit of a plan… Though odds are it probably wasn’t going to be nearly fleshed out as it needed to be. As annoying as Sharaku’s nitpicking could be… He was actually hoping that the were-vampire would have some ideas as to improve it. “Well… I guess my plan was to go in there. And if they’re cognizant enough try and see if they can remember who drugged them or where they were when they were when it happened. If not… Then we’ll deal with that I guess. We’ll want to get some of their blood to see if any of the drug’s components can reveal the source of the drug.”
Aaaand that was about as much as he had planned. Ozaki himself did not appear to have slept the best either, and his hair… Well it was always messy. He took a mild note of Sharaku’s appearance, but did not comment lest he give insult to the man. But if they looked like a bit of a mess any how.

The Vamp Wolf | To be honest, he wasn’t sure whether he could even call this much of a plan given that it hinged on the bet that there would be any vampire in there right at this moment, and specifically one that had been inflicted with the drug they were looking for. The chances of that were naturally questionable. Plus, drawing blood from a vampire who was already in that kind of state? Wasn’t that bad? They needed as much blood as they could to not dip into attacking people again, and here they were about to siphon some from them. It wasn’t guaranteed to have enough good leftover drugs to be of use either. Personally, he probably wouldn’t have tried to use victim vampires for getting samples, but that was just his opinion on the matter.
He’d run a hand through his messy hair with a huff. “Is that really a good idea however? I don’t know about you, but if I was already pushed to extreme hunger due to some drugs, I wouldn’t want to be giving the blood I have left in me away. Not in that state….” And once they were feeling good enough, there wouldn’t be enough traces left inside them, most likely. Among other things. “Anyway, what was that with your cryptic last message?” Was the guy actually going to tell him anything about it? |

“I’ve got about four liters on me at this moment. I’m sure they’ll be more than gracious to trade for that. Granted… You’re right. If they’re still under strong effects of the drugs… Yes, it will be hard to draw the blood.” Just biting them and drawing it out that way would be easier. Ozaki was pretty sure he wouldn’t go wild outright in sucking down a vampire’s blood… Afterall… Vampiric blood was rather disgusting as a fellow vampire. But once the drug got into his system that would be much harder to guarantee.
“Assuming they’re in the right state of mind. “I’ll tell you what the conditions are if you can walk through the door… But we should probably come up with a good plan if you don’t think this one is going to work first…” Ozaki paused a moment. Sharaku couldn’t help him come up with a good plan if he didn’t know everything he needed to know. Could he? This was about more than his personal issues. If he wasn’t upfront with Sharaku from the start and the plan fell apart because of it, bad things could happen. This was about more than his pride, but other people.
“No. No… That won’t work. I’ll tell you the conditions now… No point in having you help make the plan if you don’t know everything going in. You have to have committed some sort of crime in order to walk through the door. If you’re a perfectly law abiding citizen or are an officer of the law it is impossible.” Revealing this did not necessarily reveal what kind of crime Ozaki himself might have committed, so theoretically it wasn’t too risky to reveal this to Sharaku.
He’d have to explain what his talent was too to Sharaku and how that might apply to this particular job. He normally tried to avoid telling people because once they got thinking about it it could turn with them being worried.
But Sharaku didn’t seem like he’d be too worried. And he’d probably maybe not spread it around a whole bunch. But either way. Sharaku was simply more street smart than Ozaki. And he had a different perspective that could be useful in formulating a plan that might actually work without backfiring horribly. He had to be upfront if Sharaku was going to be of any help though.

The Vamp Wolf | He’d shrug. “Maybe…if you get a less suspicious one. They might be wary of accepting blood from a stranger after that. What if that’s drugged too in some way?” Most people would be on high alert after getting taken advantage of like that. There was no guarantee some random stranger walking up to them didn’t just want their assistance for something nefarious again, even if they were a vampire themselves. Heck, not like you can believe what someone is that easily anyway.
“…eh?” He’d stare at the vampire blankly for a couple moments, processing that statement. He seemed to be thinking about something for a while before clapping his hands together with an amused snort. “Like I’d ever want to suffer being a cop. What happens if you haven’t though? Does it just act like it’s locked?” It wasn’t something he absolutely needed to know, but it did pique his curiosity enough to ask. What does the door do when the wrong kind of person tries to open it? A great mystery, really.
“Anyway, I can’t say much about this. It’s a risky venture, given it relies solely on there first being a vampire that we need, and them also being in the right kind of mental and physical condition for us to get anything beneficial out of them. You can’t make a great plan when the main ‘ingredient’ of it is a big fat question mark.” In all fairness, it was more of a shot in the dark than it was a well-constructed plan. There was no way to be sure what kind of a person they were about to face, if they even found a suitable candidate inside this place. It was more of an improvisation gig in these circumstances.
“There’s always other options if this doesn’t work though. I doubt the drug wouldn’t have spread a bit, so it could be as simple as finding a drug dealer that got their hands on it and is willing to sell some. For the analysis part at least.” Maybe that could help trace who was manufacturing it too, if the constitution of the substance revealed any important clues. As for the already infected vampires….in all honesty, finding them wasn’t going to erase what they’ve already done, and no drug lasted forever, thus they were going to recover on their own as well. Talking to them could be of some help, but it also wasn’t extremely critical of them to chase the victims first thing. |

“Assuming they weren’t darted with it from a distance.” Ozaki said to the first part of Sharaku’s words. A good deal of the vampiric population did not solely rely on blood packs. Using a dart gun and shooting them from a distance seemed like an option for spreading this drug that did not involve the vampires unwitting imbibing of it.
“But you’re right… Anyone offering free blood is highly suspect. Though technically it wouldn’t be free in the case of trading it for their tainted blood…” They wouldn’t regard it as an even trade.
Sharaku focused on an entirely different thing than Ozaki had expected him to. Given his unwillingness to obey strong authority, the vampire had to wonder what kind of job Sharaku was hoping to get after school. But this wasn’t the time to ask that. “And maybe? I’ve never seen what happens if someone that doesn’t meet the conditions opens the door. If there’s no one here that fits what we’re looking for though, there are other places to check. This just seemed like a possible place, not the only. I know there are a few drug dealers in there… If they have the drug we might be able to get it off them.”
If they had it. It didn’t feel like a street drug that you’d want to sell. Then again if you were trying to poison a vampire, forcing them into starvation mode was just as good of a way as any to get themselves killed while they were at it. It wasn’t the type of drug he’d want to sell… Not that Ozaki would want to sell drugs in the first place. He’d probably make a killing with a talent like his… Which was also why he was doing his very best to not let the gang know what it was.
Ozaki had to say. This was going much better than the past few times he'd talked to Sharaku. Then again, they weren't talking directly about his problems. That made everything much easier.

The Vamp Wolf | “Having just been through such an incident would probably put anyone on edge in general, whether it had been a shot or them unknowingly ingesting it.” It’d be easy to question who could you even trust after that. People with bad intentions could be lurking about just about anywhere after all. It tended to be unusually easy to make people paranoid, and if they were worried enough to come to this slump in hopes of hiding away, they probably weren’t going to be the most trusting individuals.
Hm. Hopefully no one in there would take note of them snooping about though. Wouldn’t want the wrong kinds of rumors happening. Actually… “So…just wondering but, given your position at the school, are you not worried some people in there will remember our faces and things get out? Especially if we end up getting into trouble with a potentially uncooperative person and draw attention.” It’d sure draw attention from the other visitors, were they to get in a confrontation. Maybe it was unlikely for them to get in real danger, assuming killing customers was not allowed in there. However, that didn’t mean other unpleasant consequences couldn’t arise from standing out while in midst of a bunch of criminals. Besides, the vampire knew this place quite well, right? That had to mean he had been here before, bringing up even more chances of recognition mishaps.
“With the kinds of people that visit areas like this, you can never be sure what to expect…” As much as he didn’t care about keeping a perfect clean record or something, he’d rather avoid the bigger kind of trouble. Nobody wants to be grouped together with the nasty ones… |

The vampire nodded. Blood off the streets could be a gamble. He knew from personal experience from his encounters with the Cryptids. Though from what he knew they had taken that “recipe” off the black market ages ago. Perhaps this could be the same thing though? Withdrawal could be a bitch on it.
But he’d need a sample to know for sure.
Ozaki rubbed at his face, rather wishing he hadn’t gone and worn the trench coat he normally did while on school grounds. His hoodie would have been a better option. At least he could partially hide his face and trade mark messed up hair that made him easy to spot for anyone that knew him.
But too late for that now. “We… Can say we’re on a job and we tricked the conditions some how or something… I'd be more suprised if there weren't already a job asking to investigate the increased amount of feral vampire incidents. Is a bit risky though… Though its either go in there, wander around town and hope we get lucky or… I don’t suppose you know where most of these incidents might be happening around? That’s another option… All of this is based on luck though really.”
The other option he was loath to suggest was asking his tail if The Bloods gang had anyone who was currently under the effects of this drug in their ranks. Ozaki glanced around, looking around for the tail he knew he had. They were hiding for now, knowing if he spotted them he may take it as a reason to try and throw them off his tracks. But he doubted either of them wanted to go there.
But that gang had hundreds of vampires in it, most of them of Mordred’s lineage… He knew that mostly based on the research he’d poured into them rather than first hand knowledge. Ozaki had been trying to avoid them for the most part. But with as many vampires as were in that gang, the chances that one of them might be infected with this drug were… Also unknown.

The Vamp Wolf | So…hadn’t thought about that before, huh? Hnnn, this was going to be such a bitch but… “Well, lying would be the most obvious way I suppose….” As tricky as it could be to pull off a lie that wouldn’t get found out sooner or later. He’d give the vampire a somewhat gruff look. “If…we really wanted to, and assuming that we’re not planning on staying in there for far too long…I guess I could make it so no one can recognize us.” It’d take a good amount of effort given there were two of them, and probably a bunch of people inside, but he could technically do it. Boy did he prefer working alone. That made at least some part of these types of tasks easier, such as the sneaking about unnoticed. It wasn’t like he was eager to add more stress on his sanity than his lack of sleep and...things, but what choices did he really have?
“There’s likely not a set place for these though. They’d want varying locations if they want to catch people’s attention thoroughly. I’d assume no overly populated areas however. Unless they’d actually be perfectly fine with a big incident. Then again, that would depend on who’s behind it and how much they care….” For all they knew, the conspirators didn’t care about the body counts at all. They also might. Who knew? |

Ozaki really should have thought of that… Normally he was so worried about his appearances at the school. He guess he had just forgotten in this scenario though. They weren’t at school after all… But that did not mean it could not get back to Eldritch Academy. Plus, he’d been more worried about the vampires than anything else at the time. “You have some sort of illusion magic then?” Sounded like there was a catch to it though…. Of course wasn’t there always a catch?
When Sharaku noted that there wasn’t a set location he sighed a bit. There went that option. He might bring up The Bloods option if this one and wandering around town was a bust. Again. Neither of them wanted to go there unless there was no other option.
He lowered his voice and took a step towards Sharaku, speaking quietly so as to not be overheard by any potential people listening in.
“I should probably let you know before we go in too. I can analyze this material with my talent and figure out what components its made out of, but it comes with the cost of I have to ingest to myself and feel its effects…” Meaning that he would have to go feral for a while… It was a risky talent. One that they might be better off trying to find a more scientific way to analyze the drug. But… Well depending on Sharaku’s talent he may be able to handle that. Or depending on where they went before Ozaki took it. He felt weird bringing it up at this point... But there was no graceful way Ozaki could see of bringing it up.
There were ways to keep vampires contained. And ones that had gone temporarily feral could be harder or easier to contain, depending on how much of their mind they had left. Desperation could make for a tough adversary.

The Vamp Wolf | He’d huff. “You could call it that. Though it’s not really magic. Just manipulating people’s perceptions and senses. Reading people isn’t all I can do. Still, it does put some mental strain on me too, and something as tricky as twisting what a bunch of people sees while in constant motion does take a lot more effort than simple mind perception or telepathy.” It was useful however. It did make him good at going undercover or tricking people in the moment to get an advantage. Alas, he could end up disorienting himself as well if he did it for too long at a time without any breaks. It would probably be fine, but he figured he might as well put that fact out there because he’d at the very least prefer to not stall too much if they were going to go that route. To be honest, it was up to the vampire in the end. When it came down to it, he wasn’t extremely apprehensive about letting his face get seen. People could think whatever they wanted of him, and as long as they didn’t do some serious crime in public view while investigating here, there wouldn’t be any real proof against him of anything, whether somebody remembered his face or not. It was of course safer to hide, especially in case they had to go search further than here afterwards, but he was willing to go either way in the end.
“Hmmm?” He’d give the guy a sideways questioning glance at the sudden ‘little secret’ speak. O…kay? Well, he wasn’t see what the huge deal about that was, since all that implied was the ability to skip doing chemical analysis on substances to get results faster. That drawback didn’t sound very worth it however. Most materials that one would want to take apart in such a way were probably going to be in the dangerous category. Otherwise there wouldn’t even be a benefit in rushing it. Nobody needs an immediate list of components of simple things like random alcohol or whatever. Well, knowing the guy though, he wasn’t being told all there was to the power…eh…
“Is that something you’d really be willing to do? Not that I know how you react to being in that state, but it sounds like a dangerous choice unless you’re good at control.” Well, not every vampire acted out equally, right? Some would be more danger to those around them, and some would be able to hold back to some extent. Still, was that something the guy wanted to dabble into? Actually though… “Well, that’s assuming someone doesn’t catch onto us and tries to use it on us to get us out of the way. Now that would be fun I bet.” He’d snort there with an amused shake of his head. |

Sounded like they were going to want to avoid spending too much time in there then, Ozaki noted to himself in hearing of Sharaku’s talent.
As it was… Ozaki’s talent actually somewhat reduced the level of resistance he might have to certain drugs. And it was not so much an instantaneous read out. “I’d be willing too, though if we could choose where and when it happens that’d be preferable of course…” Putting yourself in the right place and with the right restraints not to harm someone was key. Assuming someone didn’t pull a fast one.
That being said, if he wasn’t trying to replicate the drug later he could potentially go for a lower dose and not go full feral… How much he might need Ozaki wasn’t fully certain of yet with this kind of drug, given he didn’t know what kind it was yet. He’d know when it was done though.
It was still risky given the particular nature of his feral state. Honestly he kind of agreed, it was a pain. “Though we can go through more scientific means to figure out the compounds. That would be a much safer way.” There was bound to be someone at the academy, a teacher in this field that they might be able to borrow the time of.
Or someone outside of the school of course. Either way they could find someone. “Reckon we should just head in now?” There wasn’t much more they could plan past that point Ozaki was thinking. And they were just standing outside Hotel 66 of all places. They could plan all day, but all of this was a shot in the dark anyhow. Anything could happen in there.

The Vamp Wolf | “Well, it’s not like you could kill me anyway….” It’d be a bit annoying to get attacked and all, but as long as that’s all it was, he could handle himself. It’d take someone with a calm enough mind to construct a plan to actually injure him in a fatal way after all, and that wouldn’t be happening in such a case. He also had his ways of messing about with someone trying to get at him if need be. “Depends on how fast you want the results, I suppose. Although if you want to ask someone to assist, they might ask why and how we have drugs like that on hand, so better pick a trustworthy person.” It would mean involving someone new, and you couldn’t always be sure what they’d think when brought a drug to analyze and what they’d do about it.
Right, going in. “Ugh, I suppose so. I hope it doesn’t stink worse than these streets though…” Who was he kidding…it likely did. He couldn’t understand why would people want to stay at this type of place. How bad at living did you have to be to resort to this…? Then again, some people didn’t care about what they were surrounded with. |

Ozaki grimaced at Sharaku’s comment of the smell. While vampire’s senses weren’t as elevated as werewolves, they were still more keen than that of a regular humans… The answer was yes, parts of it did smell worse. The owners did have staff to clean up the place but… It was not a very clean kind of place. Only paying customers were safe. Everyone had to pay to be sure they were safe. If you happened to bring a “guest” the hotel wouldn’t bat an eye at it or what might happen to said person in the hotel. This was… Definitely not a great place.
"Probably not." Ozaki muttered at Sharaku saying he couldn't kill him. He'd get rid of his weapons before willfully injecting himself with any such thing. "Lets talk more of this later... Best not be standing in front of a place like this for too much longer. We'll figure out what to do with the drug when we get our hands on it."
Depending on the scenario it might not even matter what they planned for it. If one of them got darted with it anyways... Ozaki put his hands in his pockets, waiting for Sharaku to work his not-magic before walking towards the door and pulling a hand out of his pocket and walking through it.
Within the hotel was… Of course worse than it looked on the outside.
There was a Dreamweaver sitting at the front desk who had opted to take the form of a framed picture of themselves flipping through a random magazine.
The floors were tiled brown linoleum, and reeked heavily of bleach and cleaning chemicals. They at least tried to keep a clean front area. Though the mop bucket filled with dirty water and blood kind of ruined the aesthetic of being a completely chill hotel lobby. As well as the fact that there were a few bullet holes in the walls here and there, and a large crack going through the floor that the Dreamweaver hadn't bothered putting the effort of getting the blood out of yet. There were couches in the lobby, but they weren't entirely in great condition. Not something Ozaki would choose to sit on given the unknown stains on them. The Dreamweaver did not look up from their magazine.
