Name of Talent: summon music
Concept: Summon a spectral musical instrument and, through it, control sound.
Extra(s): The musician will glow faintly. The color of the light changes with the music and may even appear to dance, flickering, waving, and radiating rays or casting motes of light.
Positive Mechanics:
+ Acoustical alteration: the acoustics within an area can be altered to allow for effects such as background music, distortions, echoes and reverbs, muting interference, voice modulation, volume changes, and more.
+ Band together: the musician summons multiple instruments to be wielded by others. All musicians must be in sync and willing to share energy. They receive the same benefits and detriments as the summoner.
+ Composition of telling: conversations may be held and whole stories told through a purely instrumental composition. For novice musicians, the effect is only a vague sense of what's being construed, while experts may be able to conjure visions in the back of listeners' minds. This is not straight telepathy, however, as the images and "words" themselves are heavily influenced by the listener's emotions and memories.
+ Instrumental instinct: it is not the instrument that matters, but rather the memory of the music. The instrument can look like anything and may even change at will; regardless of what it is, the musician will know how to play it effortlessly.
+ Music of emotion: music elicits emotions in the listeners, overriding any natural aura of the musician (such as a presence of fear) or emotional deficiencies in the listeners (such as an inability to feel fear).
+ Noise of pain: by focusing sound, it is possible to use the instrument as a sonic or ultrasonic weapon.
Negative Mechanics:
- Deafness: music has absolutely no bearing on one who is deaf; someone who cannot hear the music will simply be unaffected by it. However, some sonic attacks may still be able to affect them.
- Loss of hearing: utilizing the instrument as a sonic weapon can cause temporary loss of hearing in the user.
- Loss of language: overuse can negatively impact the musician's ability to hear speech or read the written word, causing words spoken and written to be replaced with musical notes or sheet music.
- Loss of music: musicians must be able to maintain concentration in order to play, otherwise the music will sound off because they will either be distracted, forget how the composition should go, or will simply no longer be able to play.
- Mute button: this talent's area of effect can be disabled through magical means.
