welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The Vamp Wolf | The time was nigh dawn, the wisps of the darkness of the night still lingering in the sky as the courtyard started to show more signs of life, with students slowly coming around to get ready for their early morning clasess of the day, or the few early risers who were simply there to enjoy the fresh crispy morning air for their personal pleasure. Nothing unusual, right? That's what one might initially think, but this time around it would prove to be one of those weird circumstances exceptions. Quite a few of the passerbys would do at least a brief double take when passing by the fountain in the middle of the area, pausing to incredulously glance at the tall gray-skinned male sitting cross-legged in front of the large construction, staring at the sprinkling water with a half-frown, in a position that seemingly indicated he was doing some sort of praying. At the crack of morning. Smack dab in the center of the courtryard where he'd naturally be the most noticeable. To add insult to injury, not only was it highly questionable as to why would someone who appears to be a vampire participate in an activity of that nature, he was also going out of his way to make a bit of a show of it when people stopped to ogle him for a longer time span. "Any of you want to come worship the invisible forces of greatness? No? Then shoo, you gawkers. I'm not getting paid for this yet." |

Blast his boss. Why did she always insist on keeping him late? He knew school was about to pick up in earnest again after summer vacation, but literally anyone could have done what he did. Now instead of flying home- his preferred method of travel- he'd have to walk or take a taxi. It would be better to call a taxi in this case. It really wasn't the best of ideas to be walking on his foot right now. Considering it was only half formed at this point. He had a boot on where his foot was currently growing, and was having to rely on crutches. Or in his case right now, just a crutch due to the fact that he couldn't very well hold the umbrella and the second crutch.
The sun was not yet out, but he wasn't going to be singed by even so much as the first rays of dawn. So... Of course it was out. As he was walking past the courtyard he couldn't help but spot Sharaku... Praying? He was shooing other people away when they walked up but... Ozaki's curiosity was too great to not go up and ask. He hobbled over and looked to the fountain. "If I may ask... Why are you praying to a fountain? Or rather... In front of one if not to one."

The Vamp Wolf | Yes, he was indeed brushing people away with often exaggerated commentary, but in all fairness he was doing it just to mess with things and give himself a bit more entertainment while he was stuck here doing this blasted prayer nonsense. Plus, it was naturally easier to not have most other people get in his space too much and just grate on his nerves. He had had enough of that in his last nightly class, which was also the reason for why he was glued here now instead of heading back to the dorms like the others from that particular class have. At least, he figured they already have. Most of them were beings that preferred night time after all, with a few night owl stragglers who just liked an upside down lifestyle.
Lo and behold though, the next person that came by was a familiar face. Well, voice, to put it more exactly, as he had not turned his head to look until he realized he recognized who said that. At which moment, a slightly questioning expression would pass over his face, seeing that the vampire was clearly limping for some reason. Nevertheless, he had his own mysteries to answer instead at the moment.
Putting on a serious look, he'd stare at Ozaki for a moment before tossing out a single comment. "I'm praying the stupid away." He'd hold onto the deadpan for a few moments before sighing faintly. "Actually, it's a longer story. Last class didn't go too well and it landed me here." Unfortunately, although it had in part to do with his own reputation among some of his classmates and even some teachers. He was not the most liked student, as he'd shamelessly challenge anything that was being purposefully unfair. Most did not like his propensity to not listen to sweet talk, nor arbitrary rules.
"It'd take a while to explain, assuming you really care about my current woes. Are you not headed somewhere? It'll be daytime soon, I doubt you're here to stand and enjoy the morning sun." |

Ozaki could not help but snort in laughter at hearing Sharaku say he was trying to pray the stupid away. Odds are for someone like him he'd be at it for a very long time. He had a way of analyzing things to see most actions taken by others as quite foolish in one way or another. He covered his face briefly, trying to regain his composure. "I am but... I could use a break from walking for a bit anyways." Even if he were to call a taxi now it'd take time for it to arrive. He definitely could not walk all the way home like this.
After a moment of awkward shuffling he managed to sit down within three feet of Sharaku, umbrella angled towards where the sun would rise in a few moments. "I'm all ears if you're up for sharing." He was definitely more comfortable with listening to people's problems than sharing his own... An element that Sharaku had practically called hypocritical in the past.

The Vamp Wolf | "Got yourself messed up again?" While he couldn't see what it was exactly, the guy was without a doubt injured again, and that did not happen all by itself. He almost had to wonder whether the vampire was just super clumsy, or if there was something else getting him into these messes. Sure a hunter gets hurt at times, but they also ought to be careful to not most of the time. Not that badly at least, because it had to be bad for a vampire to need extended time to heal.
Shifting himself to get more comfortable on the ground, he'd look back towards the fountain, frowning once again as he thought about the situation. "You know, ironically, you might be the best person to tell this to. It is kind of a vampire-centric story after all. Though you're probably not going to like it much." It was from a slightly different perspective in his current case, but he knew well enough that Ozaki tended to get a bit riled up when this type of topic got brought up. Albeit, this time he wasn't the one to get mad about, even if the guy did end up in such a mood over it.
"I don't suppose I can make you promise to not get involved in this if I tell you about it, can I?" He sounded somewhat amused, despite the subject of the question at hand. Honestly, he probably couldn't do anything about that, but he had genuinely not expected to be talking to another vampire about this, and especially not the one that would likely have a problem with it. |

"Yaaah..." It'd been a good deal of months since he'd gotten himself into a situation this bad, but it was understandable that Sharaku brought up the previous time. He'd been... Quite out of it. But he was going to avoid any and all pain killers this time. It made everything more painful of course but... Well at least he wouldn't be acting super high.
Ozaki's brow furrowed at the next part being said. Vampire-centric and religion. Well. This wasn't going to be a pleasant story. At the next part the vampire tried to consider his next words carefully. Whatever he answered he had a feeling maybe Sharaku would be okay with it, given that even an affirmative answer would be better than one that was outright lying. "Well... I can't really say until I hear the story. But I can guarantee you I won't be pulling a Mordred over it at the very least." Pulling a Mordred- causing a blood tsunami over a shit storm amount of news.

The Vamp Wolf | He'd snort. "Hopefully, for that'd likely get you in some trouble. You don't seem like the type that goes out of his way to clash with his colleagues normally." As much as he'd technically enjoy watching two employees at the school having an argument. It'd be a good real life soap opera. It probably did happen sometimes though, as being a teacher or any other type of authority here did not exclude a person from being insufferable or just plain wrong in their judgments.
"Well anyways...to start backwards for some understanding, I'm here because I technically got myself in trouble for picking an argument in class. It's not like the teacher could really try to punish me with something dangerous, so apparently her brilliant idea was that since both vampires and werewolves are unholy beings in a way, I'd despise anything worship related. Also some drivel about sitting in place being good for calming down but I did not quite listen to it. Either way, she made me stay and do this. A complex way to do a detention apparently." He'd roll his eyes slightly. "Frankly, I'm just taking the piss out of it because I'm not about to give her the satisfaction of seeing me be actually upset about it. And maybe it would be nice to truly pray some of the stupid away..." He would certainly not mind that.
"The main issue of the story is how this happened though. See, we were having a more practical nightly hunter class, thus is where a vampire being present comes in. Most people in those are night creatures. This one guy was a newer addition and from what I hear was only turned fairly recently. He had troubles with the excercises we did, and admitted to being scared. A bunch of the bully thugs of the class decided to pick on him for it when the teacher walked away briefly to get some papers. I don't like assholes, so I tried to defend him and got in a bit of a fight..." He'd shrug. "Alas, those dumbasses are damn snakes and kiss the teacher's ass when she's around, so they can easily play victim the moment they're being seen. With my blunt reputation, since I despise acting like that, I have no chance to defend that. So I got in trouble for it." Eh...it was annoying, but at the same time, he would never back off and change his mind anyway.
"Regardless, I just know you're kind of touchy when it comes to vampires and struggles so I was hoping you weren't going to rush into setting things right. It can be an uphill battle with some people, honestly." It wasn't like school settings were guaranteed to be fair, especially since it was super easy to acquire some bias. "But if you want, you could join me in praising our Lord and Savior for the mockery." He'd add with a faint chuckle. |

Rika was an odd ball when it came to sleep. While he could go to sleep at a descent hour and sleep the night away, as of late he had been having a bit of a problem staying sleep for more than four hours at a time. He wasn’t quite sure if he was nervous about something or over thinking some matter deep within. Whatever the case was, it had kept him up for the last 16 hours and while he had tried very hard to go to sleep, he eventually gave up staring at the ceiling and rolled out a bed. Changing his looks to be more presentable for outside, he left the dorm with the plans to go for a walk in the hours just before the sun would rise.
Stepping out into the crisp morning air, he’d take a deep breath of it trying to settle down the uneasiness within before he began to walk along the paths of the school’s campus. He goal was simply to air his head out and not find anything to study as he passed by the early risers, night owls, or night beings scuttling to go in before day. He wasn’t looking for anything to fill his mind more than whatever was currently bothering him. Although it would seem fate would have other plans for the Nightmare. For you see as he entered the courtyard, he saw quite an interesting sight near the fountain.
Two figures he knew the faces of were by said fountain. One in a prayer position and the other sitting on the ground with a crutch nearby. He wasn’t sure exactly what was going on, but the fact that two beings that he was certain was vampire in one way or another doing what seemed like something religious together was just a curiosity he could not ignore, so he went over.
As he neared, he would catch hold of the conversation. Sharaku was telling Yuuki about the situation that had landed him there in the first places. From the pieces he heard the situation sounded pretty crappy, but made him consider the other in a new light. So he did defended people in general. Well that was more knowledge to add to his continuous growing one about his roommate. That aside, he’d easily hop up and balance on the edge of the fountain as he carefully made his way around it from the left just in time to hear the idea posed at the end of it all. It was this suggestion that got him out of listening mode and into talking mode.
“Well now. Perhaps she should’ve considered teaching you about higher beings' wrath instead," he would say appearing like a ghost from around the curve as he paused a respectful distance away balanced on the fountain edge as he eyed the two seriously before giving a small smile. “Good morning by the way.”

Ozaki had had a few hints prior as to the variant type that Sharaku might be before. The fact he was allergic to plant matter was one such hint. The cursed variant had no such weakness. Curious. Was Sharaku's father somehow both variants at once? That was possible, if not odd. That was the only way Ozaki could see Sharaku actually being a descendant of the Bloods given the fact he fell in the wrong variant for his hybridization. But... It wasn't something he was going to bring up, as it didn't matter all that much.
The fact that Sharaku was so blase about such a punishment was another such hint. For Ozaki's variant, however, such a punishment would not just be unpleasant if actually carried out, but painful. That being said. The teacher could make Sharaku sit in front of a water fountain and put his hands together all they like. But they did not mean they could actually make him pray to anyone in particular. Ozaki looked around. "Is your teacher here actually making sure you do this?" If so Ozaki would indeed like to have a word with her... But that might be saved for later. His hackles were indeed raised by such a potentially cruel punishment. Though... If she knew of the variant Sharaku was then perhaps its intent was not directly cruel.
But he'd be one to note fully that werewolves were not inherently unholy at all. "This punishment would be dangerous if actually carried out and pushed to do with the wrong variant of vampire." He did want to push that fact as a point of why there was a reason for him to care and potentially confront the teacher. Perhaps he should at least try to be a little less transparent about his methods. But again. He was somewhat certain Sharaku would rather direct honesty than polite lies.
He did not think much of a teacher who would request of such a punishment and also consider werewolves unholy. Did she not know anything about them? They were not associated with demons, hell, or anything of the like. "I'll refrain on the prayer myself, even fake prayer is... Unsavory." It wouldn't cause pain or anything. He just... Didn't like worship of any kind nowadays. If Ozaki wanted something to happen, he was more liable to try and find a way to make it happen. Though... Often times he let his anxiety get the better of him so he would freeze rather than act. "I won't rush in... but I do feel like something ought be done. I'm not sure of that teacher's qualifications to even be teaching that class in the first place. Though... I'd reckon the newly made vampire probably could use a talking to more than the teacher... Not in a bad way of course."
When Rika walked in Ozaki was a bit surprised, though had a response readily on hand in regards to what he said.
"Vampires don't need a lesson in tasting a higher divinity's wraith. All a vampire of my variant need do is speak the name of one to feel it." His tone was sharper than normal, clearly a bit riled by the topic at hand. But he wouldn't fly off the handle for it.

The Vamp Wolf | "Mmm, I can't be necessarily sure. She might be keeping an eye from her office somewhere. Also, I do believe she has sensory powers of some sort, so maybe she doesn't even need to." He'd shrug slightly. He could test his luck and all to find out, but he honestly wasn't all that bothered by this anyway. Listening to the water of the fountain was kind of nice, and he was in no rush to go anywhere either. All in all, it was a fairly minor inconvenience in his mind.
He'd hum as he glanced up towards the sky briefly. "Potentially...but also no. It is not as if I can be made to genuinely pray. Could just sit here pretending to. Same would go for anyone else in this situation. I don't doubt she knows as much, and would expect a vampire that gets hurt by holy powers to not do it with serious intent. Part of it is probably just the idea of it. Even a teacher would get in trouble for hurting a student badly for real." Now if she did somehow force it, then yes, he'd agree on it being a pretty bad thing, but he himself was clearly not taking this prayer thing all that seriously and could anyone really know unless he told them? It'd take some special insight to be able to tell whether someone was truly trying to pray or not.
When Ozaki went on to question the teacher's qualifications, he'd laugh with a shake of his head. "She's not bad at teaching about her subject though. I think her main problem is being a little blind to some things happening right under her nose sometimes, if anything. Were she intending to give a guaranteed overly harsh punishment here, I'd be dipping in holy water or something." Now that'd be one a person could not just pretend their way out of, and it would be quite damaging to the wrong kind of species too. "Didn't know you wanted to switch with me when it comes to getting at people." He'd add an amused comment before getting more serious.
"Anyway, I suppose you could try to speak to the guy if you wanted to. I'd say he's taking it all quite well for the most part, honestly. Alas, it is highly unfortunate that some students here find their entertainment in attempting to bully others." Can't say he was surprised about it, but life would be a lot easier without those types around, especially on school grounds. Not all students were in the position or had the courage to go up against the seasoned thugs.
"Hm?" Golden eyes would blink a few times at the new arrival. Really? "...and what for? Did I do anything to deserve it? I'd call the higher beings oddly petty if they wanted to strike me just for some joking about. I'd also be able to make it through, personally." Oh no, he did not like holy beings or things. They were still kind of icky. He just wasn't straight up deathly weak to them, in case he did have to come in contact with any of them. "Isn't it a little early for you to be about though? I do hope you didn't explode the room or something...." |

The Nightmare would hear the chat being had about the incident that had happened, but for the most part did not interrupt it as he made his move. He took note of the dynamic between Sharaku and Yuuki and found himself quite curious about the side of Yuuki that seemed to react and want to do something about the situation that had occurred versus avoiding it. Even so he would keep his curiosity locked away this time and instead find himself amused at the behavior of the two when he did make his presence known.
To the reactions he got, the Nightmare would address each starting with Ozaki.
He would raise his hands up a bit before making a gesture for settle down with them as he spoke. “Easy now. I didn’t mean to offend or ruffle feathers with that one, Yuuki. I was just saying they should be given some respect even if you hate them or don’t get along with them.” His tone was gentle and soft as usual as he watched the other with golden eyes that held tiredness in them, but no malice. His gaze would linger on the other before drifting over to his roommate that had questioned him.
“I am sure you have not done anything wrong and while some of gods may indeed laugh with you, I’d hate to see one come after you because they couldn’t take a joke. I can understand why either of you may not like them or maybe not even believe in them, but I wouldn’t poke fun at them so lightly…or challenge lightly them. I am not saying you couldn’t bring one down if it came at you or survive its wrath, but still…they are different beings and they may be your downfall if not careful. They aren't called gods for nothing after all. That was all I was saying.” He didn’t care how tough one was. Gods should not be challenged so lightly. They weren’t push overs or some strong warrior. They had gained their status as god or goddess by being above the rest in some way. Enough to rule over many…that sort of power was not to be taken lightly. At least in his opinion it wasn’t. It didn't mean wallow in fear either, but still a little respect for them.
Now did he expect this go smoothly with a vampire and half vamp in front of him? No, but he had a right to his opinion and so he spoke it despite whom he spoke it to. That aside, he would huff as he placed a hand on his hip as his weight shifted to the left a bit. He’d look off to the side a bit moody at that one. “If only it was as simple as that…” he would mutter mostly to himself though anyone would good hearing could hear what he said and maybe even catch the slight bit of bitterness at that situation there. However, the moment lasted only a second as he shook his head and spoke a bit louder so both could hear. “I couldn’t sleep so I started wandering…” he would say as he looked back at them and then remembering something he would dig into his robes.
“Oh yes, Yuuki. I believe these are yours,” he would say holding out the strange crystals that once held negative energy. They were empty now as he held them in his hands and then out towards the other. They would begin to float and then drift over to the other so he wouldn’t have to get up, but just grab them out of the air if he wanted to. Apparently even if he hadn’t said anything the Nightmare was aware of the crutch and in turn a potential injury in play. Tired or not he at least was aware of that.

Ozaki had to resist the adolescent temptation to stick his tongue out in the air at whatever teacher might be watching them. He grimaced instead as Sharaku spoke about his teacher. Damn right that teacher would get in trouble. Ozaki tilted his head in confusion for a moment as Sharaku mentioned switching with him. Though it caught on within a moment what he meant.
Well. For Ozaki he found taking care of other people’s problems was far easier than his own. He’d avoid his own problems until the cows came home, but if someone else needed help he’d be more than happy to assist. “Oh… Well…” He shrugged in response. He had likely come across as rather evasive in dealing with problems… But that was when it came to his own.
“Think I’ll at least give it a shot.” Ozaki would say in response to the possibility of talking to the guy. “I’ve been there.” And it could be nice to have someone there to figure out things. Maybe his sire had stuck around, maybe he hadn’t. But either way Ozaki was going to offer his hand in aide. Then Rika went on a ramble about gods that twinged Ozaki slightly, the mere mention of the word making him wince, but he did manage to keep himself mostly level. Not that he wasn’t going to call that out though. Best set the record straight. “Most deities don’t care enough unless you deliberately invoke their name. Granted there’s a few walking around campus but…” Ozaki waved his fingers vaguely in the air. “Again you’d have to invoke their name to be directly offending them.”
Ozaki didn’t hear the muttered words, but he did see the expression. Couldn’t sleep. There was more to that story, but he more file that for later than ask on it immediately. “Well. I hope you feel a bit better for wandering at least.” He took the crystals back.
“Thanks.”

The Nightmare would glance around the area as the other two did what they would with the conversation before. He wasn’t ignoring it though, just listening rather than add on considering he had nothing to add to such a thing anyway and in turn didn’t really find it his business or rather interesting enough to make it his business at the moment. However the gods topic did draw his attention back to the others, even more so when one seemed to be reacting to it rather negatively.
He would consider the words that were said by both before closing his eyes and humming. “So you don’t think they’d show wrath unless their names were specifically mentioned? I find that rather strange. Even more so if they walk on campus as you say. If someone was speaking negatively about you or your kind, would you not get offended and try to do something about it versus ignoring it just because your name wasn’t said aloud?” he would question Yuuki first before his attention would turn to Sharaku as he tilted his head. “That is an interesting point you make. You are correct. Mot all are good and I do would not say bow to them all….in fact I wouldn’t say bowing was even part of the matter. It is more about the respect part that I am getting at. However, I can see where you are coming from if you see everything as equal... even a ---” he’d pause as he searched for a different word than god out of respect and not wanting to hurt Yuuki. “Being of higher power. Though, why do you see them as equal if they’ve shown they are not? Also the hierarchy? Why should it burn? Do you find to archaic to be of use in anymore? Or are you suggesting a different approach to the matter?” Well the questions certainly would make one wonder about the Nightmare’s view on divine beings wouldn’t it? While he seemed to have his own idea of how one should behave before them at the same time it seemed he was quite open to different opinions too. Odd? Maybe. Or maybe he was odd in the fact he was one of the rare people that had a firm spiritual belief yes, but not to point where he had to shove it down other’s throats or get upset when things weren’t approach from this one way or another.
That aside, the conversation would eventually come down to the matter of him sleeping. To this one, the nightmare would give another sigh as he raised a hand and ran it through his long bangs.
“Well the wandering helps me handle the day slightly better,” he would begin. Though it did nothing to make him feel better. If anything, all the wandering did was calm him enough that he could somewhat manage to get through classes and study…though absorbing it all was hard when one was running on empty in the sleep department. And if he did close his eyes? Well he didn’t want his mind to go there right now. Nor did he want to deal with what Sharaku was implying right now either. “You are probably right, but honestly I don’t want to get into that conversation here,” he would say as he let his hand drop as he refocused sleepily on the other two as he continued to somehow balance on the fountain edge. Yuuki’s hunch of there being more to the story was right, but it was a part of the story he had yet to share with the vampire and to be frank he wasn’t sure how comfortable he was doing that. He wasn’t sure how well the other could handle or would react to that other side of him from what had already been displayed from the other on the times they did meet. He knew that the guy had the desire to help others, but could he really do that if he knew the details or saw what Sharaku had seen of him? The Nightmare couldn’t tell and most certainly didn’t want that mess laid out in front of another if it could be avoided. Probably just saying what he said was enough to make the one who didn’t know the whole story question things, but he prayed that that box wouldn’t be open. Not now. Not now…
Anyway….
The Nightmare would nod at the question as he began to lower himself in his spot to sit on the edge of the fountain versus stand to reserve energy. “Yes we have met a few times and know each other.” He would say he knew a good deal about Yuuki by now though if Sharaku knew him too, who knew how much more there was to discover about either of them? “And you know him too apparently. Small world.”

Ozaki just nodded at Sharaku's wish of luck, figuring that was good left there considering the conversation was taking off in the direction of deities. His absolute favorite thing to talk about. You know... He had to respect Sharaku honestly given his avente garde attitude towards authority, no matter how imposing it may seem. It was both an admirable and a dumb thing about him, as sometimes it was better to tip toe around people.
"Neither deities nor I are omnipotent. If someone were talking smack about vampires... If I were there I might say something. But really it depends. But if you’re trying to get Sharaku to cower at the idea of divine retribution...” He laughed a little. “That’s not happening. Seen him face down scarier things than deities and not blink an eye.”
Gods were pompous assholes watching from above most of the time over their overly devoted subjects. Mordred was... A pompous asshole watching from above with overly devoted subjects. “And gotta say myself... Not really feeling up to the cowering on principle thing right now. Gets real old.” Now that he wasn’t being constantly stalked by gangsters it was a little easier to be relaxed. But also embarrassing that he’d actually said that out loud.
When Sharaku spoke about Rika’s sleeping problems Ozaki tilted his head slightly. Related to what he thought it was? Mmmm. “This about your vampiric side?” From what Ozaki was willing to guess about Rika, he hadn’t always been a Dreamweaver. Becoming a dreamweaver was as easy as staying in Dreamland for too long, he may have been a vampire before then. When Rika said he didn’t want to discuss it Ozaki nodded a bit. He’d drop it. Only to bring it up later but... He’d at least drop it for now if Rika didn’t want to discuss it in such a public place.
“Yah, we met awhile back in the library. What about you two? You share a class together or something?” As good of a topic change as any if Rika wanted to move the topic away from himself.
