welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Viper had been to school before, in fact she had graduated normal high school already. She might not have been at the very top of her class, but she still had decent grades. However, when it comes to school, those who ran the community she was part of didn't allow her to join in learning how to use her abilities. This was because of the unique aspect of her abilities. No one had ever seen what she could do, and so she had been cast out with the Fives. Accepted and raised by the Fives, she joined them in learning how to use her abilities. Unlike the rest, however, she found that learning her own was much easier. After all, where the others had a default energy that could change, her energy was always shaped a certain way, and made it easier for her to learn.
Even with this she still needed help learning more advanced techniques when it came to magic. That was why she came to the Academy. After learning that her old trading partner had been welcomed here, she realized she could come to learn more than what she had available in their homeland. At most, she could use her abilities to whittle away at a target's energy, or even add certain effects to a brew. After that though she knew nothing. She hadn't figured out how to cause physical effects with her magic, or even if she could use it to help instead of harm when it wasn't in a brew. That was what she hoped to learn in this school.
"You sseem to be a little early. I told you we should have ate before coming here. Won't be easy learning on an empty sstomach."
The hiss came from next to her head, Siris curled up her arm and behind her neck to rest his head on her shoulder. She looked at him and gave a small frown, shaking her head to show she didn't agree. She had learned and worked plenty of times on an empty stomach. At this point it was just an occasional factor she worked under. This wouldn't be too much different than those occasions. The only real difference was that there would be people around her.
"Sspeaking of people, wonder how many will be here? You know how I am with crowdss. I won't bite, but if we get crowded I will hisss."
She closes her eyes and shakes her head before turning back to the front of the classroom. After learning that the snake spoke for her the faculty had let her keep him on her at all times, only after testing his hostility. After proving his intelligence to them by asking them to not insult him, Siris had been given special permission to not be caged while on school grounds. Even in empty classroom though he always complained about the number of people in the Academy. A single thought crossed Viper's mind as she continued waiting for more to enter the room.
*He's going to hate the dorms. He'll have to curl up under the bed or something like that.*

The Vamp Wolf | Ghhn. These classes would be the end of him one day. Not to say that Sharaku did not appreciate new information, but whenever he had a choice, he would rather turn to self-study. Staring into the distance and trying to listen to some professor’s babbling was not his favorite pastime and were it possible to ditch classes without any repercussions, he’d have done that without a second thought. He had already graduated one program, wasn’t that proof enough he was capable of learning just fine?
Too bad, schools ran on rules. It would have made him sad, but he rarely spent time being sad, so that wasn’t much of an option. Golden eyes would sweep across the classroom as he made his way in, taking note of how big of a crowd was going to present for this one. So far, it appeared to be moderate numbers, so a couple people probably were ditching, but that was not his personal problem. Less people wasting air in the room? Perhaps.
With a sigh, he would plop himself on a seat by a desk that was next to where the girl with her snake was currently seated. He had recognized her from that time in the courtyard, as a snake was very hard to miss and forget, but he was in a slightly tired mood at the moment, so no starting conversations quickly on his part. They were likely going to get shushed down whenever the teacher of the class arrived anyway, unless they were in a lenient mood today. One could wish…at least maybe if he could do something besides stare at the teacher, he would distract himself from wanting to just take a nap. |

Viper was currently looking through some of her book, seeing what the basis of whatever they taught was when Sharaku had walked in, and thus hadn't seen him. That changed however when Siris looked around and spotted the man, slowly sliding down Viper's arm and slithering over to the man. Once closer the snake raised his head from a distance so as not to accidentally startle him. Viper was watching this to make sure her friend behaved. The snake spoke in a soft tone, knowing that a talking snake might surprise quite a few if it was introduced so suddenly.
"You look like you missed a nap or two. Can't ssay I expected to ssee any of you in the ssame classs ass uss. Thought you might be in a higher grade with different classess. Anything you can tell uss about thiss classs?"
Siris would turn around as though he had heard something at this point, looking at Viper and slithering back to her. Despite not being able to even say anything, it appeared as though she had told him to come back. Being one who liked keeping friends instead of bugging them too much and making them distance themselves from her, Viper had figured it would be best to leave the tired Sharaku alone right now, and had brought Siris back to her.
As he returned, she gently tapped his nose as though to tell him not to be so bothersome. The cobra reared his head back a little in discomfort and shook his head, letting out an annoyed hiss. He may be intelligent, but he still had certain personality traits that any snake would have.
"Oh come on, I wass just asking him a question. Not like I pestered him over and over again. Can't a ssnake ask a question?"

The Vamp Wolf | Hah, like he could be genuinely surprised by anything anymore. It was true that talking animals weren’t commonplace, but they weren’t entirely unheard of either. It was a strange phenomenon, really. Nevertheless, in his somewhat lethargic mood, it was unlikely he’d be jumpy at all, unless there was a serious threat abound, and he did have to move his ass quickly for real. Turning his head when spoken to, he’d blink at the cobra a couple times, followed by a slight tilt of his head when the snake went right back before he could even begin to formulate an answer to the statement and question asked.
Hmm, he couldn’t read this nonverbal communication all that well, apparently, but perhaps he could just roll with it. Maybe focusing on this would keep him from wanting to just doze through the class instead. “Ah well…I technically am way above you in a sense. I’ve already graduated once, to be fair. Though since some classes are based less on which mastery or specific year they are geared towards, it’s possible for students of varying grades to be taking it, depending on whether they have before or not, or if they need it for a different path too. I don’t absolutely need this class, but I figured it might have some use to me now…” Kind of. Most of the ones taking this class would probably be Scholars, which was the one thing he was not going for, but a lot of studies could be useful in multiple fields. Just like both a Hunter and a Scholar could benefit a lot from having knowledge about various beasts and species. One to know how to hunt and take them down, and the other to know their whereabouts and habits to be able to successfully study them further in case it was needed for research.
“I think it’s supposed to be a more theoretical thing. Data analysis stuff and the like. I was only half-paying attention to what the focus of this lesson was going to be…this is what I get when I take day classes. I really wish it was easier to not at times.” Especially after a long night, and not having slept a lot the day prior either. He could also blame his insomniac bouts for this, but timing was important too. Being half-vampire didn’t lend itself well to daily activities, and werewolves were more nocturnal too. While he could do it, it was still a pain in the ass at times. There was no way to schedule everything for nighttime, however. Nobody was going to run an extra class just because one person wanted it at a different time after all. The school would go crazy if they had to accommodate absolutely every individual perfectly.
In any case, he would huff lightly. “I don’t really mind talking. At least it gives me something to focus on. I bet the class is about to be completely boring. Albeit, I consider many things boring.” He was hard to entertain, alright. |

Viper nodded to his words, giving a small smile to show she understood. What he had said caught her attention and made her rather happy. The fact she could learn more than what her chosen path required meant she could learn more that could help her in her own personal studies. Plus it just went to show how much the Academy had to teach as well as who they were willing to teach. Someone who had already graduated was accepted back as a student for a different class. That meant she could always rely on the Academy if she needed something after graduation.
"Ah, a graduated man come back for more to learn? I can't ssay I ever thought I would ssee that. And then there is Viper. What you say hass her a bit excited, even if she doesn't sseem it. That ssmall ssmile meanss more than most would ever know. She hass taken a bit of interest in data analysiss. She iss only just learning to write down her findingss from her testss and experimentss. She never did before because she hass a very good memory when it comess to ssuch. Know she realizess it is easier to study resultss when they are written down."
Viper nodded and tapped her head to show that what the snake said was true. She had a nearly perfect memory when it came to anything related to her venoms and poisons, including the antidotes she created from them. Know that she had the available resources, she had begun to write down and create organized files for the poisons, venoms and antidotes she had experience with up until now. The fact that this class would possibly help teach her how to more efficiently study and come to results with them would make her work easier.
The words of Sharaku not minding conversation caused Siris to turn his head back to Viper once more, almost like he was giving her a 'told-you-so' look.
"Ssee? He doesn't mind a nice talk. We might even be able to help him sstay awake sso he can learn whatever thiss lesson iss. If he wantss to anywayss. And even if he might find the conversation boring as he apparently findss most thingss. Not the best way to ssee thingss when in a classs like thiss. Oh well."

The Vamp Wolf | Yeah, he was perhaps a slight exception to a rule. Most students tended to be happy to be finally done with school, not happily throwing themselves into a second major. Sharaku never saw studying as a particularly strenuous task however, as long as it wasn’t stuff he was entirely uninterested in. Technically the reason for why he did not choose to be a Scholar. That path would have likely tried his patience for a lot of things. He’d hmph faintly, searching through his pockets for a moment to bring out his Hunter license card to show off to the pair. “I could always just stick with being a certified Hunter, but I figure that having more qualifications is always useful, and it isn’t like I ever had much issue with studying. My powers cause me to have more or less eidetic memory, so I remember easily. So I now study extra beside working.” He had to admit that it was a helpful little ability to have. He really didn’t need to read textbooks over and over just to memorize everything. As long as he paid enough attention when learning, he was typically good very quickly.
That said, he’d nod slightly. “Being able to organize your notes and findings is a useful skill to have, yes. Especially if you’re the type that works better with data that is well formatted and easy to go through. Some can make heads and tails even from complete chaos, but that’s a talent of its own.” Personally, he hated having to circle around just to find one thing, so learning how to sift through what you have and be concise with data was never a bad habit to develop. Which he didn’t think he was bad at, but this class was still more interesting than some other options he had when it came to amassing all the extra credits he would need.
…yeah, nice talk. It was a miracle it was nice, honestly. His interactions with people often took very sharp turns towards the negative, so this was in a way an interesting change of pace. For the time being, of course, as anything could change again at a moment’s notice. Nevertheless, the tall hybrid would sound amused when he spoke again. “I’m not so much of a deadbeat that I would let myself fall asleep in class for real. I was just awake all night, and day classes are a bit of a pain for me at times. Though, I don’t mind talk, no.” Oddly enough, considering how much he tended to claim getting annoyed with people in general. “You could say I’m simply hard to fully entertain. I don’t mean boredom in the same sense as disliking a thing though.” |

Siris would slide off Viper's shoulders once more, though this time he would simply curl his six-foot-long body into a coil on the desk. once settled he raised his head out of the center and turned his gaze back to the man before them. He knew well enough that what this man said was something that was more beneficial than anything. Information was power in many ways, as it opened new doors one could use to their own advantage.
"Well, I'll ssay learning all you can iss indeed a ssmart move. Learning more allowss you to learn new wayss to deal with an opponent, openss new weaknessess you might not have known about before. It can only make you ssmarter and sstronger. Well... unlesss what you are learning hass no use. Then its just hobby I guesss."
His head turned to Viper, who had looked to the snake and tilted her head a little before returning her gaze to Sharaku. It appeared as though she had spoken to him once again, though no words were transferred between the two. Siris nodded his head to her before also turning back to their friend.
"Viper would like to know, how do you fight? Are you an arcane fighter? Or do you mainly use weaponss. She has a reason for asking, but she doesn't want me to ask yet."
Siris ducked out of instinct, Viper's hand missing his nose by an inch as he did so. He seemed to know when what he said would cause that reaction from her. The spitting cobra seemed to laugh from this, as a very short yet repeating hiss could be heard coming from him. His head also seemed to bob a little while the hiss sounded. Ge turned to her and flicked his tongue a few times as he spoke.
"Hey, look at that. I dodged it that time. Guesss I'm learning when you are going to do that, huh? No more nose tappingss for me. Well... ssometimess."

The Vamp Wolf | “I don’t like listening to pointless things. If it’s unnecessary, then I don’t care. In my opinion, the best things to learn are ones that you can actually use somehow.” Becoming an encyclopedia on useless facts was not something he would be interested in doing. Why waste time on knowledge that was largely irrelevant? There would always be people who chose that path anyway, so it wasn’t like it would face extinction simply because a few people used more common sense and aimed for quantifiable studies. He’d blink at the snake in thought. “I wonder, what would a snake like you consider to be important though? You can’t exactly do a lot of things humanoid beings have easy access to.” Being able to speak and hold intelligent conversations was definitely an improvement over a wild reptile, but still, the lack of limbs and a general ability to fit in, or use special powers would be a big hindrance in many ways.
Also, fighting? He’d shrug one shoulder lightly. “Weapons I suppose. That, or I use myself. I prefer close combat either way.” In case he didn’t have a weapon, he still had his claws or fangs, and even more so if he turned into his werewolf form. Usually, he carried a pair of daggers hidden on his person though. “My powers are more on the mental side, and I can use those to assist me in combat, but I can’t use it to do direct damage to people, so I have to utilize physical combat.” He could confuse people with illusions and the like to give himself an advantage in battle, but in the end, the only way to injure anyone required him to get up close and do it himself. He could also try ranged methods, but outside of maybe throwing knives and darts, he wasn’t extremely proficient with them. They did not fit his fighting style, and while he was capable of handling them were he to have nothing else available, it’d make for very improvised attempts on his side. “Why?” What reason did she have for asking that?
“I’m guessing this is some sort of a running gag? Unless I’m missing something.” Well, personally he wouldn’t enjoy getting bopped like that if he were in that position, so he could understand wanting to avoid such attempts. Though, these two seemed to understand each other without speaking out loud, so he wasn’t sure why actions like that were necessary…? |

Siris seemed a tad annoyed from the comment made in his ability, or in this case inability, to do everything humans can. He was a rather proud cobra, and was very proud of what he could do that other snakes couldn't. He had even gone so far as to teach himself how to write by gripping the utensil with his tail, granted his calligraphy was less than pleasant on the eyes. Even then though he felt as though his intelligence was just insulted in a way. He might be a snake still, but he did know that some things were important that he didn't even think of before.
"Hey now. I find many thingss important, even ssome thingss that I cannot personally do. Like thiss one'ss education. If I feel she may be late waking up I wake her myself. Or, to answer your question, her ability to fight. She isn't the best at combat. Sure she wieldss those daggerss, but she can barely hold them up in time to deflect an attack. That is why she wished to know how you fight. She is trying to find ssomeone who can teach her a little more about combat."
Siris wasn't quite quick enough to dodge this time, getting a finger on his nose. He shook his head a little and looked back at Viper, flicking his tongue at her a few times as he dodged his head around a few times. Viper would let out a noiseless sigh, shaking her own head as though to say 'why do you do that?'. Siris would laugh once more, turning back to Sharaku.
"Oh, that? It'ss nothing, really. Just what she doess when I ssay ssomething without her actually wanting me to ssay it. I usually do it just to messs with her. She makess it too easy. Pluss it'ss fun sseing her reaction to when I do it. Even if it iss rather uncomfortable, it'ss worth it getting to mess with her when I can."

The Vamp Wolf | …Huh? That wasn’t quite what he had meant though. He was interested in what the snake would consider to be important information for himself, given there was a lot he couldn’t effectively use. She was her own person, and she could pick what she wanted to prioritize for her life, no? It shouldn’t be something her ‘friend’ animal should be putting itself in charge of. Plus, maybe it was just him, but making your life goals about supporting someone else only was rather boring. What about doing things for your own self…? You only live once. Why dedicate all of that to a different person?
He’d furrow his brows slightly. “I was asking more about what you find important for yourself personally though. Not just for her. She can decide her goals and priorities herself. It means little if it’s just you pushing her to wake up earlier or whatever. It’s her own job to be dedicated for her own sake. Unless what you’re trying to say is that your whole life’s meaning revolves around being her support.” Which would certainly be something he’d struggle to understand. That said, he’d hmph faintly. “Regardless, I could teach her how to wield the daggers and fight with them, but a little warning ahead of time…I don’t go easy on people. If you want to learn, then you better show your determination. I don’t have patience with those who whine and complain every few minutes once they have to put in real work, so in case you’d rather a more benevolent and nice teacher, I’d suggest finding someone else. I cut people no slack.” You either put your heart into it if you’re really serious about learning, or go home and laze around instead. He did not like taking on tutoring people who’d try to do as little as possible and expect great results, or just generally not take it seriously. They’d likely hate him, because his temper with fools was short and he’d only end up upsetting them to no end. It would not work.
In any case, he’d raise an eyebrow at the whole ‘messing around’ matter. “Well, she’s rather lenient then, I’d say. If I had a companion who kept doing that for fun despite knowing I don’t like it, I’d skin them alive eventually. You refuse to listen, you get what you asked for….” He’d shrug his shoulders nonchalantly. It wasn’t that he hated jokes…he was all for a little sarcasm and dark humor in the right moments, but deliberately embarrassing someone like that and potentially saying sensitive information…? He wouldn’t tolerate this type of thing. Not unless he had an agreement with the person that they were free to, but then he would also not have an issue with it, which she did seem to kind of have? Eh. |

"Ah, what I myself find important? Well, being able to protect oneself iss important. That and knowing how to do whatever path you have chosen for yourself. On a more personal level, I would love to know exactly how it iss that a wild warlock wass able to make me talk and be intelligent beyond what my sspeciess should be able to have. If one day I am able to find out whatever that iss, then I will consider my life fulfilled up to that point. Besides that, I don't want much. What can I say, I lead a simple life. Though, you aren't very accurate when you question if my life revolves around her. There are times I will head off on my own. Whenever you see her alone without me it is usually because I took off for more personal reasons."
Viper seemed happy when Sharaku said he would help train her. She had been needing to learn how to at least protect herself a little better for a while. She felt as though she might have been in a bit of trouble had she traveled here the way her friend Talon did. He had been raised and loved to fight and hunt, where she had lived to tame and brew poisons, concoctions and antidotes. If she could learn to fight then she could go about on her own to get material and ingredients needed for those things. Once she could do that she could improve on her brewing abilities and arcane abilities much easier.
"She ssayss she will put her all into training. Thiss is greatly important to her, as it will help her in the future and she doesn't want to rely on otherss to protect her all the time. Trust me when I ssay she iss being ssincere. Thiss iss ssomething she hass been wanting to do for a good while now. Back home she had otherss to hunt for her, but sstill needed to know how to fight sso she could handle animalss she wass wanting to tame. And it wass difficult for her to get ssuppliess as well. If she getss trained, she won't have that problem as much."
Siris looked back at Viper and tilted his head as though he was thinking.
"Lenient? Well, if you think about it, she hass to be. I am her best way to communicate, unlesss she wantss to write down every little thing she wantss to tell someone. That would be a little bit time consuming and rather tiring after a while. Besidess, she knowss I am just messing with her. I think."
