welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

There was a blue sky today. The sun was shining and the rays hit the petals on the many colorful flowers in the academy's outer courtyard gardens just right, making them shine brightly, and there was only a slight breeze out, making the petals on the flowers sway a bit. Ariya Vuldotter walked into the garden with a smile on her face. She loved being with the flowers. Everything smelled so nice. It was also pretty quiet in this part of the garden, perfect for a little bit of drawing. She was also just happy to be outside.
Ariya got out her sketchbook and pencil, which she had brought with her, and sat down on the grass. As she started drawing, thoughts of her parents drifted in her mind. She missed them, and wondered how they were getting along without her. It hadn't been easy for her to say goodbye to them, on the day she left for Eldritch Academy. She sighed sadly to herself. Then she shook her head, her long brown hair swaying to and fro, as she shook the thoughts away. Then a little bird landed on her textbook, and she giggled softly. "Hi there. You're on my sketchpad." she said, light particles surrounding her as she spoke to it. "Oh, sorry." the little bird said, and fluttered away. The light particles disappeared, and Ariya looked around a little bit. She saw a few other fellow students, and maybe one or two school faculty members also out in the gardens.
Now, Ariya wasn't overtly shy, but she did feel just a little shy today. She knew she shouldn't feel like an outsider in the school. After all, many different kinds of people and species attended this school, and she really wasn't any more unusual than anyone else. That didn't keep her from feeling a bit awkward here. She wanted to say hi to everyone attending here, but she was maybe feeling a bit self-conscious. Especially that dumb condition of hers. She, for the most part, usually kept that under wraps. Sometimes, however, she forgot about it, and her hands would start flaying for just a few seconds, before bringing herself back to reality. Then she would recieve weird looks from everyone in the classroom. She would just blush, and wish that she could just disappear. That's why she felt a bit more comfortable outside in the gardens. At least the flowers didn't look at her funny when her hands decided to try 'flying away'.
Ariya looked back at the flowers, and started drawing on her sketchpad.

Leaving her dorm behind for awhile, Kaname walked into a sunny garden in the courtyard. She had never seen one up close before because she was an urban dweller who lived in the heart of Mistere and never saw much greenery. Well, any real greenery, anyway. Plastic plants and flowers were everywhere, but they were a poor substitute for the real thing. Here the real thing was in abundance.
The last time Kaname had seen real greenery was in the park she was killed in while trying to retrieve her father's sword. It was one of the first times she had seen real trees up close and could remember it. Kaname looked around the garden area and saw a half-fox, half human girl drawing in a sketchbook. The Ghost/Human Hybrid froze in place.
Maybe she should go now. Maybe the brown-haired girl wanted to be left alone. Kaname stood in silence, uncertain about what to do. The garden area was for everyone, but she really did not want to intrude where she was not wanted.

Ariya had just gotten done drawing a petal in her sketchpad, when she heard someone walking by. She turned her head to see who it was. It was a girl, who looked a little...ghostly, and yet still maintained a human appearance. Probably someone who was half-human just as she was. At first, Ariya felt a little shy, and still a bit self-conscious. Then she remembered what her father always told her, before she left for the academy. You can't expect everyone who sees you to automatically want to be your friend. You have to be the one to go to them. she remembered him telling her. So she gave the girl a smile. "Hi there. It's pretty nice out, huh?" she said. She stood up and walked over to the stranger. "I'm Ariya. What's your name?" she asked as she held out her hand.

Kaname was surprised when the fox girl began to talk to her. She appeared to recognize Kaname for what she really was. This was a school for supernatural entities, so it was expected that others could see through her facade of normality. It did not bother her. Everyone knew what she was by now.
"My name's Kaname. Nice to meet you, Ariya." Kaname said before taking the hand that was offered to her. Ariya was half-fox, half-human with beautiful brown hair. It seemed that Kaname was far from the only half-something on campus. That fact was strangely comforting to her.

Lavender had two half aliens for little twin sisters and thought nothing weird of it, she was the sort of person who didn't really realize 'weird' things about people unless they were pointed out to her. Objects or such that happened to be odd? The girl noticed easily, but people themselves she never thought anything was particularly weird, it just didn't bother her because of the sheer amount of others she had interacted with in her 13 years. Realizing a conversation going on nearby that appeared to only be introductions, the black haired girl made her way over and smiled at the two of them waving to enter herself into the exchange without much effort or being too intrusive. "Hello, I'm Lavender." she introduced herself as well, having already heard there names, smiling happily at the pair.

"It's nice to meet you too, Kaname." Ariya replied, and shook her hand. She then saw another girl walk over to the two of them and introduce herself as Lavender. "Oh, it's nice to meet you too Lavender." she replied, smiling. "I like being in these gardens. It's so relaxing, and the flowers smell so good." she said. She looked over at her sketchpad, and then back at the two girls. "Sometimes I'll do a little bit of drawing out here in the gardens. I like to sketch some of the flowers growing here. Would you like to see some?" she asked. Normally Ariya was a little too nervous about letting other people besides herself look at her sketches, but today she felt like showing off some of her pictures; although she still felt a little self-conscious about her art skills.

"I grew up in the heart of downtown Mistere, so I didn't see very many flowers. Well, very many real flowers anyway. There were plastic ones all over the place. But plastic's just not the same." Kaname said to Ariya. Lavender soon walked onto the scene and introduced herself to Ariya. Kaname waved at the smaller girl.
"Hi Lavender. How's it going?" Kaname asked the smaller girl. She then turned her attention back to Ariya, who offered the former a glimpse into her sketchbook. So Ariya was an artist... or an aspiring one. That was OK. She had a leg up on Kaname, who could not draw anything but a sword.
"Sure, Ariya. I'd like to take a look at your drawings... if you don't mind." Kaname said to Ariya.

It wasn't hard to tell that Felis loved nature. As someone who had talents based around the concept, if he hated it that would be a little weird. It was on sunny days like this that the feline actually really liked to take strolls around the campus, taking in the sights and smells of the lively flowers, despite it being a little cold given the season. Angelic would have loved this school if she was still around to see it. Well, of course, if she was still alive he wouldn't be here in the first place... Though, the cat had spent many nights thinking about that kind of stuff, and would rather not spend more time thinking of 'what is' scenarios. He just had to keep her memory for himself and enjoy the life she gave him. It hadn't taken the white feline long before he found himself in the school's gardens, surrounded by flowerbeds as far as the eye could see. The gardeners were rather good at their job, they kept the flowers fed and the bushes clipped, but not a lot of them got one on one attention when needed, so he usually did some of the caretaking himself. Currently, just a little away from the girls Felis sat on the outside of the flowerbed of tulips, placing his paw delicately upon one of the vibrant purple petals of one that seemed a little droopy. Poor thing, must have been missed the last time they watered. A green light covering his paw his power transferred into the wilting flower, causing it to vibrate a radiant light before its petals opened up once again and straightened itself, looking as lively as ever. A smile overcame the teacher's maw, pleased with his work.

"Okay! Just one sec." Ariya replied, both happy, and a little surprised. She quickly walked over to her sketchpad and picked it up. She then walked back over to Kaname and Lavender. She opened up the sketchpad, and showed them a few of her finished sketches; it usually took her a couple of days to fully complete her drawings, since she liked putting detail into her art.
"Here's a sketch I drew of a pretty chrysanthemum I saw out here in the gardens." Ariya said, showing the picture to the two girls. She then flipped the page to a sketch of a rose. "The rose is one of my favorite flowers. This is my most recent sketch of one." she said, smiling. Then she flipped to another page that had a fully drawn flower picture. "This is a sketch I drew of a beautiful red carnation that I saw a few days ago. If my mother was here, I'd have picked one and given one to her." she said. A slight bit of homesickness entered her heart, she forced herself to push it back.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed one of the academy's teachers, Mr. Felis, tending to one of the flowers. Out of all the teachers who worked here, he was probably the one whom she felt most connected with. They both had Talents that were related to nature, and they both loved flowers.

Kaname looked inside Ariya's sketchbook and saw the various sketches. She saw a sketch of a chrysanthemum, a sketch of a rose, and a full drawing of some other kind of plant. Ariya was good at what she did. Kaname could not draw anything remotely close to what the fox girl could. The hybrid was not an artist and she was not much of a scholar. Everyone had their talents... Kaname just did not have very many of them in anything that mattered.
She was not a social butterfly. She was not a spellbinding orator. She was not even a good athlete. Kaname was just kind of... here. Right now she was just kind of here and marking time while trying to find something, anything she could excel at.
"Hey, who's the cat?" Kaname asked Ariya and Lavender. There was something special about the white cat. What that something was Kaname did not know.

In spite of everything she could do well, simply relaxing and enjoying the roses, so to speak, was something that the young teenager never was very good at. Why stop to do something that took so long in stillness when the world was so mobile? "Sure" luckily that didn't mean she had anything against art, just that she had no interest in doing such things herself because she had so much else to do. Viewing the other girls drawings was simply another way to get to know her peer, which was something she'd rarely turn down even if she couldn't understand how the girl could devote such time sitting.
"Fairly good, though I could use with some more studying or practice to do." since the year was still getting into swing she was slowly running out of things to do, studying on her own as she did was one thing, but she was here to learn from the teachers and their lessons. Regarding teachers? Lavender looked over at Kana slightly shocked when she mentioned not knowing Mr.Felis, asking who the cat was, it was stunning. "He's the potions and alchemy teacher, Mr.Felis." the ebony haired girl herself had already seen the feline around many places, and fully intended to be attending his classes. Smiling at the other girls she turned around and walked the short distance to the Tulip bed, crouching down beside the teacher to closer inspect the flower he'd revived. "It's really pretty, Mr.Felis. How did you first find out you could do that?" in spite of being a teenager and attending school, the young girl had yet to awaken her first talent.

Ariya raised an eyebrow at Lavender, but didn't mind the girl's comment. Apparently she had other things she wanted to do, and that was fine. She watched her go over to Mr. Felis and chat with him, and then looked back over at Kaname.
"So, how long have you been attending the school here?" Ariya asked, wanting to make small-talk. Something she was always super awkward with, though she wanted to get better at it. She didn't want to be some kind of anti-social person, and have no friends. That would just be a very lonely existence for her. Besides, she felt the gardens were a good place to socialize with other people, faculty, or fellow student alike.

"I've been here for a few days. I'm a freshman." Kaname replied to Ariya. Lavender popped up and then left to go speak with Mr. Felis, the feline teacher on campus. He was a hit with the students because he was a good guy who knew how to talk to people. He was also a cat, a fact that did not hurt his popularity at all. Being a cat was certainly an advantage because almost everyone liked cats.
Well, except for Wendigo Guy. He hated everything and everyone. Kaname did not expect rainbows and sunshine all the time, but it seemed like Mr. Dumas went out of his way to be angry and intimidating. At least he was not prejudiced... he hated everyone equally. The hybrid turned her attention from the teacher to Ariya.
"How long have you been here?" Kaname asked the fox-girl.

Ariya had to think about that one. She had been attending, and staying in, Eldritch Academy since she was twelve. Which meant that she had been here in this school for quite a number of years now. "I believe I've been here for about six years now. I started at this academy as an Acolyte, and now I'm a 'super senior', which means I could've graduated from the academy last year, but I want to stay a little longer, so I can get as much out of my high school-level stuff as possible." she explained. Whew! That was more than I thought I was gonna say. I hope I didn't just bombard her with all that info. she thought to herself.
"Anyways, once I get my all my high school-level stuff done, I plan on staying here a bit longer so I can do some college-level studying." Ariya added, chuckling a little bit. That is, if I can afford to pay for it. she thought, somewhat nervously, to herself. Her parents had been able to pay for her time here, at least for a set number of years. However, she had no idea how many years had been paid for, and how much she would have to pay to stay and do all that college studying. Ariya silently wondered if she would have to return to her parents for a time and get that worked out, or if any college level tuition was already paid for and she wouldn't have to worry about it.

Felis' gaze lingered upon his work, pretty content with the way the tulip's vibrant purple colors were finally showing before movements next to him caught his attention. The feline turned from his work to look upon the young human girl who now crouched beside him, praising him for his work. Felis shot her his signature charming smile, happy some of the students seemed to enjoy nature as much as he did. Noticing the two other girls that were basking in the glory of the academy's gardens he flicked his tail to them, a sort of acknowledgement before turning back to Lavender. "Thanks" he purred for the complement. "I've always been able to do it, ever since i received this power from my past companion." He didn't want to say owner, since Angelica never once treated him like a pet. They were both equal in the witch's eyes, which is probably why the cat had grown so fond of her over their years. Unlike to the rest of the world he wasn't some dumb cat, but a friend. When him and Angelica made their contract a bit of the girl's power went into him. So really, it was less his power and more her power. Though, despite being dead, the bit she did give him still lingered. He hoped he'd never see the day it all ran out. He turned back from the tulip to the human. "Lavender, right?" He asked, remembering the name from the couple of times they interacted. "What about you? Have you found your talent yet?" She was a little young, so there was no telling if she had actually discovered it yet. But there was always a possibility.
