welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Tags Word Count Anything It was early morning. Sun just began to rise and shed its golden rays upon the campus. The day before was rather dark and gloomy with rain constantly pouring down; at the same time it was warm which turned out to be a rather unsavory combination for most of the local population. At least, the flora had an enjoyable refreshment after a long streak of sunny and hot days. Majority of the students were in their dorms, sleeping- it was yet too early for classes to begin. Several students were up early- perhaps to do some morning exercise or they decided to pull an all-nighter.
Natalie was already awake as well- she woke up at around 4:30 AM. There was no plan or intent behind that; she simply could not bring herself to sleep anymore despite the fact she was exhausted and craving for extra 5 minutes. Last couple of days were rather busy for her. She enrolled at the academy a few weeks before, but due to a long distance between home and the academy it took a while for her arrangements to be completed. She spent several days simply arranging things with the faculty, paperwork and her room in the dorms; on top of that, she brought several boxes containing things from home so she would feel more like home. With all that taken care of she crashed into bed in hope for some quality sleep, but... no such luck. Today was going to be her first day in classes so that might not leave the best first impression on anyone.
Nevertheless, there was no use whining over such things. She was awake so she decided to do something productive until 10 AM when her first class begins. She began by unpacking her boxes. Among the contents one could find books of various sorts; ranging from music and history to psychology and sociology. There were plenty of notebooks, a picture of Natalie together with her family, her alarm clock and even a violin she plays from time to time. Once all of the content was taken care of Natalie opened one of her books and started walking in circles around the room reading it. She imagined it would not hurt to read a few pages in advance before the lesson to grasp the understanding a bit better.
"Oh..." She muttered as she turned her gaze at her clock. It was already 7 AM according to the clock. She was surprised at how time flew past so quickly- she could have sworn she started unpacking only minutes ago. She was not going to see her home in a while so perhaps she was absorbed in thoughts while wrapping up her morning activity. There was nothing much to do so she thought it would be a good idea to take in some fresh air. Few minutes later she got dressed and left the dorms to have a short walk before deciding what to do next. She had a refreshing walk around the campus- scent of flora combined with the freshness after rain made her perk up a little bit. There were even severals students and faculty members walking around- guess it was about time some people woke up.Since there were still few hours left she decided to visit the coffee shop that she walked by yesterday and get something to wake her up and keep her that way. It was a bit of a long walk considering the length and all, but it helped her stretch her legs
She walked into the coffee shop and took a moment to look around. It was a rather pretty establishment with a soothing feeling to it in a way. Well, at least that was how Natalie felt about it. She walked forward and then took a right to the seats near the windows. She sat down and began waiting patiently for waiter or anyone to approach; it was a new place and new experience so she did not feel like taking out her phone already. She was going to be here for the next couple of years so she might as well see some faces she will be seeing in the future.

Kaname heard about a coffee shop in the area, so she was there. Coffee was good to her. It helped her stay awake for cram school classes and it helped her get through lengthy and tedious homework assignments. It was only 7:00 A.M., so it was the best time for coffee. Kaname put on her school uniform, put away her sword in a secure place, and made her way to the caffeinated goodness.
She waited in line and purchased a cup of expresso. It was as healthy for her as drinking toxic waste, but she had already died once. What harm could overly caffeinated coffee do to her that a sword to the chest had not?
Besides, teachers complained about students falling asleep in class. With the power of this expresso Kaname was guaranteed to stay wide awake through even the dullest of lectures. She would not have to deal with the Wendigo guy complaining about her falling asleep. He might have had reason to complain about her predilection for open carry of a sword, but he would have no right to complain about her being awake.
Kaname sat down in an empty corner and listened to the pop music filter over the overhead speakers while drinking her astonishingly expensive brew. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed a tall and attractive female student sitting near the windows. The girl had dark hair and was well-dressed. Kaname wanted to say something to her. So the hybrid got up and walked over to the person. "Hi there. I'm Kaname." Kaname introduced herself to the young woman.

Sleep was only for the weak or the mentally sane, Inglisse told herself. She typically refused to sleep unless it was needed, if her body could not go on much longer. A nice restful sleep was hard to come by. Voices and terrors rang in her head, making the rem scattered and more trouble than it was really worth. To avoid sleep and dozing off into a scary abyss, the girl dove headfirst into her work and research, which was why she had enrolled in the academy in the first place. To keep herself awake, she lingered in the coffee shop in the early hours of the morning when it had opened. On the table near the windows, she kept a hot beverage, a thick tome with long and convoluted words and texts, a notebook with scribbles on every open space, a pen, and a tiny bone needle and mulberry leaf to fidget with.
The beverage was hot espresso coffee with a few large drops of cream and vanilla. It was plain for the most part, but a good caffeine boost in the eyes of the girl. She wore a soft navy blue jacket with fur lining the collar and openings of the sleeves, blue jeans, fashionable boots, and a black t-shirt. Her golden eyes scanned the pages of the massive tome before darting over to compare with her notes. Once every few moments, her eyes would turn to the mulberry leaf, focusing on it closely before she opted to write something down about it. The careful rhythm and routine she had created was soon interrupted by someone sitting at the other table near the windows and another approaching to introduce herself.
Gazing over at a clock on the wall of the coffee shop, Inglisse blinked as she realized it was no longer the dark hours of the morning, but instead nearing 8am. She had been here for a good while; perhaps it was time to actually order some breakfast and perhaps bother to talk to people. Though there were times she preferred to keep to herself, the platinum blonde found interaction with others quite interesting. There was always something new to learn about one’s species, psychology, or behaviors, all of which always fascinated the girl. Placing a smile on her face, Inglisse shot it at the two upon placing her mulberry leaf back on the table. “Have either of you tried their mulberry tea? It is quite delicious, but unfortunately has no caffeine,” she stated warmly, attempting to break the ice.

'CAUSE WE'RE ONLY GETTING BETTER
--- ALIVE AGAIN, ANOTHER DAY, I'M NOT AFRAID TO GET OVER --- |
[attr="class","boneshatter3"] The ease of being to go in and out of a place so early in the morning wasn't so hard. In fact, Clementine happened to be particular twin whom enjoyed being up early and rather serious about punctuality and the like. Since she knew she could get away with doing such a thing between her studies, helping to care for her sister, and her schoolwork, that a part time job wouldn't be such a bad idea. Something early in the morning that wouldn't cause too much trouble, the only place that seemed open both at that time and willing to employ a 12 year old girl was a coffee shop. Willing to take full responsibility and enjoyment for it, she had taken it and seemed to find some fun in working so far. It was a nice job, just taking some orders and filling them, but the place was never too busy that she nor others could handle. So when it came time for the place to open, Clementine had gotten to work on cleaning some cups and plates along with various other things around behind the counter. As the door opened, the bell chimed and brought the young girls attention to a slightly older woman, deduced to be maybe between 17 and 20 if she had to guess. "Good morning, I'll be right with you, madam!" She yelled out, her neutral tone sounding not bitter but neither to be sweet. Few others entered, moving about and being cared for, but they left this girl to the child. Within moments, she had looked away and back up to see two others were around her. They both seemed to have known her maybe? Or just a friendly group, but perhaps a chance to get them altogether was the best option right now. Grabbing a pen and a notepad, the young girl walked out from behind the counter around a couple other waitresses and approached the table, donned in her uniform. "Good morning, everyone. May I take your order or do you all need another moment or two?" She asked, holding her pen at the ready if they all had chosen already or if they needed just a second or two. Tags Word Count Anything It has been barely two minutes since Natalie sat comfy in the chair before two ladies turned her attention to her. She did not expect it to be so sudden; especially because her knowledge in anything or anyone in and around the campus has been lacking. She was not used to that kind of attention- especially not in the early morning like that; she was still trying to sober up from the unsuccessful attempts of sleep so she had to stop herself there for three seconds before she could even react.
"Hello there." Natalie replied to the girl that greeted her. She did not know exactly how to react in that moment- she attempted to wave at her, but she just ended up raising her hand awkwardly. She turned towards the other girl who jumped into the conversation. "Oh, hi there!" Natalie responded to her. She did not know what to do or say in that moment so when waitress swung by to take their orders Natalie just rolled with it.
"She looks so young." Natalie thought to herself as she gazed at the waitress. She was surprised that someone of such age was working in a coffee shop- that is not an ordinary thing to see. "Uh, miss over here recommended mulberry tea. May I have one of those, please?" She inquired politely and then turned towards the first girl and then the second one. "Would you two like something?"

Lavender didn't worry as much as Kaiden did sometimes but the teenager worried quiet a good deal about her little twin sisters, sure she only had about 9 months or so on them, but that still meant she was older. Considering the close familial relation, she wasn't entirely ignorant that Clem had a part time job, it was just that until today she was too busy with prep for school to stop by and check the place out. Once in a while? She had to be able to trust the twins knew what they were doing by now. However, today she had gotten about two hours ahead on reading, finishing one of her books early and another even earlier, giving her the time to walk over to the coffee shop and finally get to get it out. "Kaname, want to sit with me?" she recognized the half ghost, easily speaking up to her and walking over to stand nearby, eyes darting cautiously to try and spot her sister. "Mind if the two of us sit with the two of you?" since herself and Kana had not sat down, she wanted to try to get them sitting before the white haired girl she just spotted made it over, she didn't want to make it too obvious she was checking in. "If this place has it, I'll just have the coffee the same way I do after an all night study session, Clem." she had been prone to those at home, and no doubt would be frequenting the shop due to them whenever tests rolled around, striving so hard to be the top score in whatever way she could. In spite of being a 13 year old, she took her coffee almost straight expect for a little bit of milk to soften it, but she still liked it heavy.

Ariya snored loudly as she slept, that is until her alarm clock sounded in her sensitive-to-sounds fox ears, and she almost fell out of bed. She very groggily turned off her alarm, and slowly sat up in bed. She spaced out a little bit, her brain still half-asleep. After a few minutes, she finally got out of bed, and changed into her clothes. She checked the time on her alarm clock. It was 7:00 am, about a couple of hours before her first class. She still felt a bit drowsy, and decided it was still early enough, that she was going to the local coffee shop and grab some espresso and a breakfast sandwich. She gathered her all her school stuff and put it in her bag, and then headed out the door. She exited the Cobalt dormitory, and then readjusted her bag so it would sit well on her back. Then she shifted into her animal form, and ran over to the coffee shop.
When Ariya arrived at the coffee shop, she shifted back into her human form, and readjusted her bag again. Then she walked inside the building and walked over to an empty table. She set her bag down, and sat down, looking around. She saw many people who also attended the academy, though she didn't know their names. The only ones she recognized were Kaname, who was currently talking to someone, and Lavender, who looked just as tired as she herself felt. Ariya decided not to bother them right now, and simply waited for someone to take her order.

Kaname had just greeted the tall girl when a girl with platinum blonde hair started praising the virtues of mulberry tea. Mulberry tea. Why was tea being mentioned in a house of coffee? Kaname decided to let it go and speak to the platinum blonde in dark but clean and decent clothing.
"Hi there. I'm Kaname Hayamoto. And I haven't tried mulberry tea yet. I'm a coffee fan. A big coffee fan." Kaname introduced herself to the girl. Moments later a waitress walked up to them and asked for their order. That was easy. More expresso was required. "I'd like another expresso, please. Just a plain expresso." Kaname informed the younger girl. A familiar face popped up. It was Lavender from the study group! The youthful student recognized the importance of caffeine to academic performance. Lavender would go far in Eldritch Academy.
"You'll have to ask this young woman. I don't mind you joining us, but it's up to her. You see, we kinda gathered around her." Kaname said, pointing out the tall, dark-haired girl who had surprisingly not taken offense to the unplanned gathering. Yet.

She was slightly confused by how quickly things escalated and began to feel a bit panicky around so many unfamiliar faces at the same time. In that brief rush of panic she spoke once more to the waitress. "Uh... mulberry tea and a coffee- j-just... regular coffee." She stuttered here and there. Normally, she would not be stuttering and behaving like this, but the lack of proper sleep was certainly kicking in that she could barely keep up with what was going on.
"S-sure... please, take a seat." Natalie accepted offering the others to join and sit by her side. There were quite a few of them to sit by her side and they all appeared well-versed in the area; most of them were probably students at the academy, much like herself and judging by how easy-going they behaved Natalie assumed they were here for some time already. She thought it would be a wise idea to speak to them if she had any things that needed to be cleared up. "It's very nice to meet you. My name is Natalie. Natalie White. So, it's Kaname, right? Annnd... may I ask who else I am sharing my morning with?" Natalie looked at the platinum blond girl who recommended the tea and then at the girl who already knew Kaname.

"Yes, it's Kaname." Kaname said to the tall girl. Part of her felt bad for unwittingly spearheading the intrusion on the girl's space. What was meant to be a one-on-one conversation quickly snowballed into a group of girls descending on the older girl. That was not what the silver-haired girl wanted to happen. It had happened and it could be chalked up to the law of unintended consequences. Kaname was pretty sure the thief who stabbed her with her father's prized sword never intended for her to come back as a Ghost/Human Hybrid, but it happened anyway. Kaname felt a little guilty about accidentally swamping the tall girl with so many new faces and names, but by this point it was a fait accompli. There was no un-ringing the bell now.

[attr="class","boneshatter1"] [attr="class","boneshatter2"] | AND WE'LL NEVER STOP
'CAUSE WE'RE ONLY GETTING BETTER
--- ALIVE AGAIN, ANOTHER DAY, I'M NOT AFRAID TO GET OVER --- |
[attr="class","boneshatter3"]The young waitress patiently awaited her table of gaggling girls to get themselves together. It wasn't the first time a gathering of people brought a larger table, so she wasn't worried about standing patiently for a moment. She had no other tables at the moment so it wasn't too bad or worrisome to stand by since it seemed so far those whom were just previously standing around were all mainly strangers to one another. Seemed like a little literary cliché of a meeting like something out of a novel or a love story, but the middle school student remained quiet while they gathered their choices between themselves to give. The first girl, the original customer she was going to tend to had started off with her order, giving her the floor of her order. For a moment, Clementine's eyes peered over as her current ordering customer had named the referral suggestion of the tea. "It's a good choice. Mulberry tea is one of the more popular here. I've had some myself and I recommend it personally." She commented, righting down her order before turning her attention towards next girl.
The anticipation of her own sisters order had quickly been jotted down during the girls statement of her order. "I had assumed as much, Lavender. Bit of a one trick pony, but it does make things easier as well." She gave a quick smile as it came down to her next order. With two out of the way, she had looked to the only other two currently about without any input. Her order was... another espresso? Oh boy.. "It sounds more like you need to relax on them, but I am not here to parent what a customer wants." She said plain as day, no bother to hold herself back as normal. Still, the young girl wrote down her order and would turn to the only person left whom had not made any comment of her order. "And you, ma'am?" Asking the only leftover person whom had not mentioned anything. ""
Turning her attention after getting the last order was the only other table she'd been given since the former waitress had given it to her. A single person over a table of 3 in the corner? She chose the greedier route, but this was a simple pick up for Clementine. "Ma'am, if you'd like, you are allowed to pull the tables together and I can still bill you separately." She informed her, seeming like she had wanted to engage with the others despite her bit of studying with the large tome or book she'd been reading. Giving them all some time to get themselves together, she left to put their order in, swinging around the counter while she prepped the drinks. Setting up a tray, she had gotten whole pot of the tea freshly brewed, the espresso made during the boiling time of the tea, and the coffee for her sister together. Once prepared, the young waitress returned, taking the tray and placing it on the table behind her, putting one by one by each person and then finally a plate with a dozen biscuits. "For the tea and my own sisters order, animal shaped biscuits come with the tea and the rest are on me." She informed, placing the plate in the center of their table and collected her tray in her arms up against her body. "Is there anything else I can get for you ladies?" She knew her break was coming up soon, but her intention was to sit in the back room to read like normal. But Lavender knew her schedule so she'd probably give it away. Kaname, relax? Relax on coffee? That was nonsense. The young waitress had a lot to learn about the ways of the world. One day she would learn that coffee was what kept the world running.
Hospitals. Police stations. Schools. All of them ran on untold quantities of coffee. Coffee was arguably as vital to the economy as fuel, electricity, and transportation for goods.
"Maybe I should stop, but I like the taste of them." Kaname calmly said to the small waitress. The hybrid did not take offense to her statement. Kaname took it in stride. The waitress would learn of coffee's importance one day.

Ariya looked at the waitress who had asked her what she wanted to order. "Oh, yes, um, I'll have a cinnamon mocha espresso with the tea biscuits, and a breakfast sandwich, please." she politely said. The Kitsune girl noticed this girl looked a little young to be a waitress. She wasn't one to judge though, and thought nothing more of it.
All that was on Ariya's mind, was hanging out at the academy's gardens after all her classes were over for the day. She relished the peaceful atmosphere that surrounded that place, and it was an almost perfect spot to destress and unwind in after a long day at school. Of course, that was after school, not before, so she really shouldn't get too ahead of herself quite yet.
After the waitress left to prepare Ariya's order, she got out her textbook for one of her classes, and started reading. Might as well do a little bit of studying before class. Maybe this will give me a headstart on today's assignment. she thought to herself as she read.

It does not hurt to make a friend or two when you come to a completely new place and it seemed like a perfect opportunity to do so. She just had to make sure not to make it awkward which was not her best skill with the lack of sleep involved. She turned to the young waitress first and smiled.
"Thank you very much!" She thanked.
"If you would like to come over, please, make yourselves comfortable." Natalie said to bunch of new faces as she moved slightly so they could sit around if they wanted to. "I'm a student at Eldritch Academy. 9th grade, to be exact. I'm one of the new guys." Kaname answered the tall girl's question. The hybrid was waiting on her second expresso, but she was in no hurry. She had already consumed the first expresso and was feeling good. Today would be a good day.
"I like it so far. It's a good place to be. There's plenty of interesting classes, the classrooms, the library, and the dorms are all modern, and there's a lot to do in town." Kaname offered an unsolicited opinion. Kaname had already taken a liking to this coffee shop. She would be back many times over the years. It supplied the sweet, sweet expressos that kept her going in the face of lengthy homework assignments and long hours of class. She liked caffeine almost as much as she liked her sword, and that was saying a lot.
