welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Just like that, in a bright flash of light, darkness quickly had followed. How long had it been? A couple days or a dozen centuries? It was impossible to tell time when shrouded in darkness. Sleep was rare; the poisonous magic kept her from fully sleeping or fully being awake. She was in a state of limbo and it truly was painful. All the while, she was forced to relive the memories of her recent years and of the moments leading up to the darkness.
...
The guild that she called home had been forcibly disbanded by the cruel council, which had caught onto their shady doings and learned that they had given the weapon of mass destruction piece to the peaceful kingdom that had originally owned it. The family that called themselves Black Rose, however, stayed together. Family stuck by each others sides, even when the going got tough. But that was not enough for the vengeful council, who had learned of their whereabouts and had given the bakedanuki an ultimatum: turn herself in or they would kill the family she had left.
She had no reason to ask questions or deny them; the safety of the only people she had left to care about came first. Upon handing herself over to the council, all of whom were quick to see her magical abilities disabled with use of other magic and seals, she was locked away and transported elsewhere. To a high security prison, to her execution, she was left in the dark as to where she would end up. Unfortunately, prison and execution were fates far too merciful for the yokai. The council had hired an onmyoji to seal away the bakedanuki, deeming her evil and a danger to society. The onmyoji was one she had met before, a rather friendly fellow who she never dreamed would ever do anything against her. That was wishful thinking. He was an onmyoji, a mage that fought against and could exterminate yokai quite easily. Why had she bothered to think otherwise?
In the bright and painful flash of light, the bakedanuki was briskly sealed away outside of that world. They would not seal her away in a home planet, which was deemed too risky. Years passed in that dark space, unbeknownst to the yokai who fought so desperately against the seal. Every ounce of her magical energy was spent trying to pick apart the horrid seal. The process was slow and exhausting. Months without rest were spent slowly tearing at the seems.
...
Three years passed and a glimmer of light appeared in the haze of darkness. There was little of her magical energy left, it all having been used up to break the onmyoji’s seal. Rose-colored eyes re-opened for the first time in years. The silver-furred tanuki gazed around through blurry vision and took in the unfamiliar smells. Something was off-- this was no place she recognized, nor was it any familiar land. Another world entirely, she had come to realize most painfully. And the others-- her family, her friends? What of their fates?
…
The starved, muddled tanuki had been wandering the large city for what was likely a few weeks. She had no magical energy to speak of and could not even bring herself to tap into her innate abilities, such as transformation. Today, the silver-furred raccoon dog had stumbled upon a rather large and beautiful campus. It was peaceful for the most part. She could only guess it was an academy, judging by the majority of children flooding the courtyard. Hopping up on the sun-warmed stone of a fountain side, the bakedanuki curled up quietly, too exhausted and physically sore to bother hunting some small vermin to call lunch.

Speaking of lunch, a young man had just sat down at the fountain's edge to enjoy his Meat! Meat! & More Meat! sandwich. It was a huge monstrosity of a sub, backed with all the meats, some melty cheese, and some assorted veggies like peppers and onions. He didn't much care what was on it as long as it wasn't spicy, and the sandwich lady had assured him it was void of all spicy peppers and sauces. The only sauce he truly appreciated was ranch, so there might have been a little bit of that in there too...but enough about the sandwich!
Just as he'd chomped into it and scrambled to keep the cheese from oozing down his chin onto his navy blue track suit, a furball caught his eye. A dirty one. It smelled a little funny. As he chewed, he stared at its sleeping form, wondering if it was just someone's lost pet, a feral animal, or maybe a student? It was hard to tell these days. Its condition seemed less than stellar, so that earned the niffler's worry. His selfishness only took into account his wealth and things that glimmered, not so much giving care to those who needed it. Theo did have some class, after all.
Both he and his sandwich approached the pitiful creature silently, so that he could get a better look and position himself for both giving aid and flinching away should it be rabid or something. He crouched before it on the ground, bringing his icy eyes level with it in consternation. Here goes nothing! "Hello..." he vocalized softly, trying to rouse it but not alarm it. He held his lunch minus a bite between them, as if it were an offering to some angry god. Food might disarm any bad reactions. It definitely looked like it could stand to eat. "Need some help?" he asked next, falling silent to await his fate.

Kaname walked into the courtyard without her sword. She had had it with the constant fearful glances and whispers. She hoped that the complainers were happy. As for Kaname herself, she was feeling irritable. Walking around without it felt like walking around without part of herself.
Some people were afraid of her. Others treated her like she was walking around with a teddy bear in her arms and whispered jokes. She had reached a conclusion. People could be jealous and spiteful. Trying to please others would only lead Kaname to feel miserable and stressed out. Some people were just not happy unless they were shoving someone's face in the dirt. Screw those clowns. She would show them all. She would get the last laugh one day.
Kaname's irritability abated when she saw a silver-furred animal and a blue-haired guy with a sandwich in his hand. She opted to keep her distance from the pair in case the animal lashed out. Animals were known to lash out whenever they felt cornered. Kaname knew that feeling all too well. Dumas and Olivia had given her a lot of grief lately simply because they felt entitled to look down on those they considered beneath them.
Mr. Dumas and Olivia would do well to remember that if they kept kicking her, they just might end up losing a leg.

"Don't get too close to it." Felis' voice warned his fellow teacher and student from behind, his tone unusually serious. The white tom kept his distance from the canine-like creature, though close enough so he was prepared to defend Theo if this girl decided to lash out. Felis' blue eyes stayed on Theo for a second before looking towards the raccoon dog, his skinny white tail lashing a bit with uncertainty. You know if Felis of all people seemed to be on edge, this was a pretty serious situation. Though, he didn't blame Theo for wanting to feed a starving animal. It was natural, wanting to help out a creature that seemed so weak and frail. Yet, knowing exactly what this creature was, he couldn't help but want to give extra special caution for this case. It was a youkai. A specific type of youkai, a bakedanuki, to be extremely specific. Youkai weren't exactly rare around here... But everything about this particular one screamed other-wordly. He could sense it, even from here. She wasn't quite right. There was something very, vert wrong with this picture. And he didn't exactly want one of his fellow staffers getting chomped... Or worse, as this could get. Angelica had told his rather a lot about youkai, enough for him to know the dangers of being around one. Felis's tail fluffed up, the hair on his spine standing on end The tom looked back to Theo, blue eyes full of concern. "She may look weak, but give a youkai enough power and it could do so many things to you, you wont live long enough to regret it." Hopefully he would heed his warning. If not, the cat was scared to see what would happen next.
If only Angelica was still here... She would know how to handle this.

Peace would not last too long. The courtyard was becoming populated again and the warm stone of the fountain was becoming occupied further by various students and staff members coming to sit and relax or eat their lunch. One particular person, a young adult who held a unique scent of a creature she had not encountered before, sat in close proximity to her with a very meaty sandwich in his hands. One silver ear perked at his words while the meat on the sandwich caused the canine to slowly begin to salivate. She becoming a source of attention to not just the raven-haired man, but a silver-haired girl and a cat as well.
Rose-colored eyes gave the feline a sideways glance as he briskly warned the nearby people to be wary around her. So, he could recognize her as a youkai? Was he some sort of bakeneko or shapeshifter or did he just have knowledge of other youkai. If he knew of the existence of ayakashi, it at least confirmed the idea that there were other youkai living in this strange world. She was not alone.
Before the dark-haired man could react to the cat’s warning, however, the bakedanuki’s muzzle shot forward and attempted to latch onto his sandwich. If she was successful, she would pull it from his hands and pin it between two paws while she dug in. She was far too ravenous to let the easy meal slip by. Sure, it was stealing, but her instincts cried out for food so niceties were not on the priority list. If anyone attempted to reclaim the meal, should she have received it, she would attempt to grasp it in her jaws and dodge their claims and grabby hands. The sandwich was hers now, whether they liked it or not. She could perhaps have addressed the concerns of the white feline or thought about them more clearly, but it was rather hard to think with a hungry fog looming over one’s head.

"It looks kinda hungry. You might just want to give it the sandwich before it takes your hand." Kaname suggested to the blue-haired guy. It was easy for her to say because her sandwich was not on the line. Any rational person would give up the sandwich to keep their hand. Kaname was not sure if the blue-haired guy was playing with a full deck. She did not want to see him get hurt any more than she wanted the creature to get hurt in the inevitable retaliation by academy staff.
"If you want, I'll give you the money for another sandwich." Kaname said to him. As strange as the guy was, no one deserved to lose their hand to an animal. That was something that Kaname wished on no one.

"Well, if I won't live long enough to regret it, then it won't matter to me," Theo jovial answered his fellow faculty member, foolhardy but truthful. A grin stretched his lips. "It'll give you two more time to run. Don't worry so mu--" before he could finish the rest of his thought, his sandwich was gone and the creature was devouring it. Blinking at his empty hands, the hunger in his belly was sad, but he had offered it to her. Most of him was pleased it had taken it. If only there was more lunch to offer it and himself so they could have a picnic and both be fed.
Yes, it was probably dumb to be so close to a suspicious youkai, but Theo wasn't known for his exceptional cautiousness. No treasure would ever be found if a nose wasn't stuck where it shouldn't be every now and then. He learned by being up close and personal, and so far he'd living to tell the tale. And while he was pretty clumsy, a trait detrimental to an explorer of hazardous places, luck would see him surviving many close calls. That was not to say he didn't possess any scars, because there had been more than once he'd ended up in an infirmary with injuries, but even the worst of them were always 'just shy' of ending his life. He'd take it, as long as he got to keep doing what he loved for a long as possible. He was already over three hundred years old, with so many new areas to explore left. Maybe by the time he reached one thousand he'd have checked all the areas off and could slip into the next life...or something.
Standing upright once more to give the hungry silver furred canine some room, his eyes shifted to Mr. Felis, to the girl lingering moodily nearby, then back to the feline professor. "Welp, now that mine is gone...maybe we should get it some more food? I don't know if my sandwich will be enough. Poor thing. Do either of you have any food on you?"

For a split second the cat's heart dropped. When the canine reached out and grabbed the man's food he had honestly thought his coworker was done for. 'Oh well time to look for a new exploration teacher.' Surely after such an accident they would find it hard to hire another teacher if they discovered the fate of the previous one. Well, of course Felis was also worried just because he seemed like a good soul and death was a nasty thing... But also the school would suffer a bit and then they would have to make some cut backs and those cut backs could be cutting into his food sources and honestly that was a fate worse than death. So really, he was hoping the teacher would stay alive just for that. Well, okay not JUST for that, but it was one of the reasons.
But after the initial shock of watching the youkai lunge forward and grab Theo's food... It was obvious he wasn't going to have to actually worry about any of that. The white feline let out a sigh, knowing what hate would have been bestowed upon the man had he not been so lucky. Seriously, why didn't people listen to him? Was it because he was a cat? Probably. No one ever listens to the cat, and then boom, they're dead. Welp, it was their own fault. Feeling a little bit better now that the tanuki had not bitten the teacher's hand off Felis rolled his blue eyes, the seriousness washing away from his features. "No need to get anymore food. We can just sacrifice Theo since he seems so adamant about dying as the hero." Felis teased the man, despite still being a little on edge. While his fur was still a little fluffed he was pretty calm now. Not that the youkai still wasn't dangerous. It was, but for some reason it wasn't going after them... For now. His blue eyes returned to the youkai, his head tilted slightly. "So, are you going to explain yourself, bakedanuki?" He asked in a more serious tone. "This isn't exactly a public space, and i know you're not a faculty member or student."

"No. I don't have food on me." Kaname said to the strange guy. She did not have food. But what she did have was money. Since she did not know what he liked to eat, he could go buy what he wanted. It was only right... she had urged him to give up his sandwich.
"What is it you like to eat?" Kaname asked him. While waiting for a response from the blue-haired guy she listened to Felis talk to the animal. Could it understand human speech? Kaname did not know the answer to that question. Felis was better qualified to answer it than she was. Felis seemed to know exactly what he was dealing with, so the hybrid would leave it to the feline professor.

Ravenously, the bakedanuki tore off chunks of the sandwich and quickly downed them, with little to no actual chewing. Choking was of no concern to the raccoon dog who wanted nothing more than to get the meat sandwich into her stomach as quickly as possible. How long had it been since she had a decent meal? At least three years. Why she had not died for that was no surprise, as the youkai personally found it rather difficult to die, at least permanently; but that did not make hunger any less painful.
Steadying the large sandwich between her paws, the tanuki only half-listened in on the conversation among the three regarding replacing the dark-haired man’s lunch. Food was more important. After a few quick moments, however, Izayuki had completed consumed the sandwich. In disappointment at it being gone, her silver-furred ears drooped again. It was then that the white feline addressed her specifically. She had not eaten or harmed anyone, so why was he so adamant on bothering her? She just wanted to eat more, because that was likely impossible, she wanted to sleep.
Already annoyed at the cat for revealing that she was a youkai, the bakedanuki decided to act out in spite and play the part of the dumb animal. She gave a large annoyed huff as she settled back down into a rested position, but said nothing in response to the feline. She did not owe him a response or explanation for anything, did she? Choosing to try and prove his claims wrong to the others, the canine shot the white feline a quizzical glance before curling her nose back into her tail, intentionally ignoring him. She owed no words to anyone, least of all a cat.

"Ah, man! Dying a hero...do you think that could happen to someone like me?" the tracksuited man asked in dramatic wistfulness, his frosty eyes misting up a bit at the thought. Nifflers were not known for their...altruistic tendencies. None that he could remember had ever died with the tile of 'hero', not that he knew many to begin with. It was far more common for their deaths to go unnoticed by anyone, left to rot in a secluded canyon that no living soul finds again until the carcass is decayed and returned to dust. Or, as it had been many years ago, they became casualties of war but were undocumented due to the...nature of their work. Theo might not be able to fight his DNA or past, but the idea that he could rise above it all and accomplish something no other of his species ever had? Now that would feel nice...and probably pay really well.
Shaking his head clear of the reverie, he focused back on the creature he'd been trying to rehabilitate. You know, because he was a good guy. "I don't think it likes you, Felis," Theo teased the cat in return as the raccoon dog snubbed him. It had some sass.
Turning to Kaname, he pulled out his wallet and handed the girl some money. "Do you think you could go get two more, no, three more meat subs of some sort from the sandwich vendor over there?" he asked, ducking his head in slight embarrassment. "It's not that I can't go get them myself, but with that yokai not liking our feline instructor, I can't very well let them get into a fight while I'm still messing with food. But...I'm starving and I think the creature could use another couple helpings, you know? Plus we're kinda liable for you kids and I don't want you to have to try and help Felis if something happened..." he trailed, scratching the back of his head. See? Theo could be reasonable...when it came to others.

"I can do that." Kaname said to the guy while accepting his money. After making him give up his sandwich, she owed him that much. Kaname took the money and walked straight to the sandwich vendor the blue-haired guy had pointed out.
"I'd like three of your meat subs, please." Kaname said to the brown-mustached man running the cart. He nodded and began to make the sandwiches. Whole she waited she watched the situation from afar. She hoped that the "bakedanuki" would not turn on them and add Felis, Tracksuit Guy, and Kaname to the menu. Situations like this were exactly why the hybrid carried a weapon until very recently.
Would carrying a weapon have worsened the situation? Maybe. Carrying one would have certainly been a deterrent to anything with a sense of self-preservation. Unless it was suicidal, the animal would not go after prey that could fight back. It showed intelligence by pointedly ignoring Felis' questions, so Kaname had reason to believe that it had self-preservation instincts as well.
"Here you go." The man said to her, holding out three sandwiches wrapped in paper. Kaname handed over the money and she received the meat subs. She walked back over to Tracksuit Guy and held out his purchase.
"Here you go." Kaname called to the guy.

"If I were a tiny white cat that was also a professor of a magical academy and I didn't want to be working in my classroom... Where would I be?" Kaiden mumbled to himself as he strode about Campus during the early lunch. It had been a while now since Mr. Felis had given Kaiden and the rest of his class an assignment to work on, and now the deadline was fast approaching. Funny thing is, Kaiden hadn't even started working on it while everyone else was almost done. He was what many people considered to be a master procrastinator... Or at least that's what he saw himself as. He didn't really like the word "lazy" so this title was more fitting for him anyways. But none of that mattered now anyways, he needed to ask some vital questions that he should've on the day the task was given out. He just needed to find that damn cat. Which could be almost impossible to do in a campus as large as this, especially when said cat wasn't currently in his class room.
Sighing to himself, the blue haired boy walked into the main courtyard where a large fountain acted as the centerpiece. His eyes lazily scanned the area until he finally spotted him! The small white cat standing next to another professor near the fountain. Also a familiar faced white haired girl... And what appeared to be some grey furred animal..? Shrugging, Kaiden simply broke into a jog towards the feline professor until he finally caught up to them. "P- Professor!" He said through a wheeze. "I uhh.. I had some questions about that assignment.... What the hell?" Kaiden slowed down before turning to the fountain when he noticed the animal more closely. It didn't look anything like he had seen before. However it appeared to be very weak in its current state. Judging by the fact that Theo was giving her his lunch. "Uhh.. Sh- Should I come back at a later..? Or call a vet?"

In a hellbound dimension, a single, wilting rose drops its last petal onto the ground. A dirty, sut colored thing, made of pure ashes in the mind’s eye. Frost crests its rotting edges, as if winter tried to catch upon it, but the flower too soon died. A family. In the silky darkness, wrapped in beer-scented air, coated in cherry flower scented lotion, a family used to live. Forcibly removed from their home. It began to wilt. The shadowy flower turned ugly without no one left to tend it. Well, quite the commotion was going on now. As far as he sensed, something had appeared at the campus which caught their attention. He was but perhaps a few dozen meters away at this point, simply observing the scene. Maybe… nah. If he was more familiar with the people down there, he would’ve joined the group of curiosity himself by now. He’d give it a few seconds.
Besides, he happened to be listening to something on his small headphones. At some point, curiosity took over, and he decided to approach the group and see the source of the commotion - suddenly, he was pushed aside by a random, smooth-haired man who… uh, he, uh, appeared out of nowhere? Also, the sudden maneuver almost made Wani fall on his butt, so he quickly had to regain his balance before returning to his calmed expression.
“Hmh…”
