welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Jinn calmly looked at the man coming out of the tree before throwing the knife right back at him. He didn't look at the knife though. The way it got thrown he already knew it wasn't going to hit him. Jinn calmly took the knife out of the ground before saying. "Yea I don't like it when people spy on me." Jinn said in a tired yet bored tone.
Jinn listened to the names getting called and rolled his eyes a bit when he heard his name. He knew he could be as sweet as a cookie but he certainly wasn't one. "Just call me Jinn. Everyone does it anyways." He said with a simple shrug in the same tond as before.

"Ah! So the barking was you. Nice to have you Solla," Theo commented, mentally editing and checking off the name. A smile settled on his lips, oblivious that he had possibly been insensitive. This would only prove to set the bar low for how far he could possibly accidentally insult his students. Theo wasn't dumb, but he was far more acquainted with material possessions than other living beings.
As the next student rang out to also offer a correction, he nodded again. "Got it, Kaname. Are you from Hisakawa by chance?" he asked off hand, knowing that it was customary to do that in most towns in Hisakawa. He'd been to the country many times, even keeping a jade dragon in his pocket he found there like a good luck charm.
Next, Crishendia responded, and even waved like he asked! She could follow instructions, which was crucial to this class. He wasn't super strict, but if he was to impart to these precious students how not to die out in the wild blue yonder while searching for priceless artifacts, they'd need to pay attention. "Sevenspear, Sevenspear, Sevenspear..." he repeated, closing his eyes and tapping his temple. While it sounded like he was trying to summon some sort of ghoul from a mirror or something, he was actually committing the new info to his memory, adding it to her name in his mental roster.
Next, a young brunette lifted her hand and claimed Lavender.
"I'd hazard to guess that you're lucky I'm a different sort of teacher. I don't think anyone else on campus would simply brush off having a knife thrown at them," Theo responded, easy-going mirth in his voice though his icy blue eyes were sharp and nearly threatening. "Jinn, I might keep that to combat training class, but it's always good to have an offensive member on an exploration team. It can be dangerous, and your detection and aim could be necessary," he continued in a bright tone. He wasn't sure if he was teachering right, but this felt like the right way for him to handle it at the time.
After Jinn, it fell quiet. Theo pouted a little. Where were still names that needed waves and faces. After pausing a few more moments in case they were shy and gathering their nerve, he pressed again. Maybe they hadn't heard their names? There was at least one body here who hadn't claimed one of the names, but the other two were legit not here. Surely no one could have gotten sick or dropped his class already... Inhaling, he prepared his lungs to yell out the remaining names.
"Quinn Beamont!"
"Urmom Gae!" He still didn't get it.
"Astrid Beowulf!"

Ryse Azar hurriedly sped along the school grounds, panting as she tried to locate the spot where the professor had drawn on the map. The series of loops and turns were quite confusing to the 11th grader. However, she was determined to find the location; it would be embarrassing if she was tardy because she couldn't even complete the first task given to her! She couldn't afford to fail the class just because of that. After looking at the copy of the map she'd drawn out, and carefully following the route given, she soon found herself nearing a tree with some colorful quilts laid out on the ground. There were already a lot of people there, which told her she was probably the last one to arrive.
"I'm.... I'm here, Professor!" She said between gasps as she came to a stop beside some of the other students, catching her breath. She raised her hand so the professor could identify her amongst the crowd. "S-sorry, I got a... little lost. My name is Ryse Azar."
The idea of an archaeology and exploration class sounded very interesting to her. And perhaps the things she learned here would come in handy later on. She wondered what they would be doing first.

"Ryse Azar," the teacher said, then paused as if to repeat it mentally a few times. She wasn't on his roster, but he wouldn't turn anyone away that wanted to learn! "Welcome. Glad you could make it," he greeted, motioning for her to join the others on the quilts.
He waited only a few more moments, tapping his foot nervously. Hm. It indeed looked like he was missing some students. Was that normal? This was his first class, so he wasn't really sure what he should expect in the way of...well, anything, really. He had no idea what to expect in the least. Maybe that's why he was about to forego the whole 'meet and greet' part of the class and get right into the curriculum, which he came up with by himself.
"Today's lesson will be covering the most important two things you'll need to remember in my classes. They are simple, and I expect them to be followed without question and always, okay?" he asked, feeling incredibly awkward. What did teachers even sound like? He hoped he was doing this right. "Number one! Never go exploring alone. For the duration of my classes, you will be expected to adhere to the buddy system as if your life depends on it, because it may very well actually depend on it! Survival can be a struggle on exhibitions, and should something happen to you, your buddy will be responsible for aiding you or running for help. Clear? For this class it may be wise to stick with the same buddy the entire time to form necessary...er...trust," he paused, almost finding the word hard to speak. Nifflers weren't known for their trust, but a lesson was a lesson. He was a big enough person to know his trust issues had gotten him into some pretty gnarly situations.
"Secondly!" Theo exclaimed suddenly, a mischievous grin starting to tug on his lips. "It's important to follow the instructions you are given as closely as possible. Even if they don't make sense, reliable intel leading to the greatest reward will often intentionally not make sense. Beings of days far in the past to even more recently often hide their most important and valuable items to keep them safe. They're supposed to be tricky to find," he instructed, raising his hand and falling silent.
Then Theo snapped his fingers. Those students that had followed his drawn map correctly, nonsensical loops and all, would find a icy blue rune glowing on the tip of their foot. He grinned, seeing more than he thought had actually followed instructions, while some predictably had not. "The runes on your feet ensure you get a snack later. Also, it gives you a ten minute head start to find a partner and discuss an action plan," explained the onyx haired male, hands sneaking to a rope hidden behind a low branch. With a tug, a wooden box lowered full of voice recorders attached to maps. "These detail the item you're looking for and clues to finding it, as well as a general location. Once you have your partner, come get a pack and begin."
[OOC: Feel free to design your own riddles/maps/items/clues as you find a buddy and start the mini adventure. Get creative! Theo is a goofy, unpredictable dude. Competition with other groups is encouraged. :D Also, if there happens to be an uneven number (I didn't check), whoever is the odd one out can pair with Theo. Should your partner disappear/stop posting, you can claim that you got either separated or couldn't work together, and either repair with other solos or join up with Theo. Also, if you want to take your pair's adventure and branch off into another thread for convenience, that is allowed. Simply note that your characters are exiting the thread and provide a link to the one they moved to, but keep in mind that any outside interference from Theo or a rival group won't happen unless requested and agreed upon by all parties. Also, feel free to return here for wrap up!]

"I'm from Mistere, but my grandparents are from Hisakawa." Kaname answered the teacher's question. Kaname herself was from cookie-cutter suburbia in Mistere. Her grandparents were from traditional Hisakawa. Among those traditions was using their last name first. She did not know why she used her last name first in the recording... she chalked it up to being nervous.

Ryse looked curiously at the blue rune that had suddenly appeared at the tip of her shoe. She hadn't known such magic existed. But after the curiosity faded away, she looked around at the other students a bit nervously. There were a lot of people here, and she didn't know any of them. Who was she going to have as her partner? She hoped none of the items would be hidden someplace like a cave or underground...... she didn't like being someplace that could cave in and trap her inside where nobody could hear her scream....
Shaking off the terrified thoughts, Ryse focused her attention on finding a partner for the class.

Crishendia held up a hand as she waved a bit towards the teacher, "sir, since we had to follow a map with instructions to get here, maybe some got lost. Since you mentioned some names that appear to not be here," she stated, hoping she sounded logical. As if the air around her back shifted, her wings suddenly were there. "Shall I fly up and see if there are some trying to find this here? Before we continue?" She hoped she wasn't intruding into anything. It might've been possible that the teacher had meant to punish those that could not find it. Maybe even tell them this wasn't their type of class if they weren't able to make it here, making this initial map a sort of test.
Honestly, the angel wasn't all too certain what had been planned for those, but she did kind of want to see if she could find someone from above that were seemingly following a map or sorts. Perhaps some people would look lost somewhere nearby? It seemed like a possible thing. Perhaps the clues were easy for some while difficult for others. To be completely honest, she felt those that weren't capable of seeing the precise location on the map quickly, especially when compared to a map of the school grounds, would likely not fit too well here. But perhaps they would get some special class in map reading?
