welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

{ } Smacking her bull whip down on the kitchen counter, the young woman would yell at her sous chefs, who quivered in fear underneath the small woman's wrath. Dahlia was known to be a beautiful flower in the wild, but Ms. Rosengard was something of nightmares and horrors were scared of. "I told you to prepare a bechamel sauce and you prepare this rubbish. It looks like a bunch of guys from the fucking Sage household were getting hyped at night and decided to do it into the same bowl." Grabbing a large cup of the bechamel sauce with her abilities, the woman would splash it in all four male sous chefs faces. "Get out of my kitchen and don't even think about being in the culinary world ever again."Sighing, the witch would rub her head in frustration. She needed some sauce ready so she could deduce who could even assemble a lasagna properly. However, this could provide an easier challenge where she won't have to manage that much. Dumping out the sticky nut juice, oh sorry, 'bechamel sauce', in the drain, the witch would make the cauldron float with absolutely no effort as she set up each of the student's cooking station. If they knew their way around the kitchen, they'd be fine. Even though, she said that you didn't need to have experience, she didn't say that she'd make it easy on you. It's just that if you don't have experience, you better be ready to work your ass off. Walking to the chalkboard, the woman would telekinetically write with the chalk as to each of the standards of a very high quality but basic bechamel sauce in order to support most types of pasta. Once she was content with herself, the pink headed woman would grab her class masterlist as she glanced upon the names. No one of note really stuck out to her, so the young woman sat in her spinning chair until the students trinkled in and panicked as they saw how much was written on the blackboard. It's always fun to see how much the students want to break down before they realize they don't need to copy it and just apply it. MADE BY VEL OF GS

Adrisse seemed to be the first to wander in, a pep in her step not yet dashed by what might be her hardest class. She first noticed the work areas, noting that they looked so professional. Next, her hazel eyes paused at her witchy teacher, to whom she provided a vigorous wave. "Heya, Teach," she grinned, picking a station to lean against. "Adrisse Flygare, reporting for cook class-- wheeew! That's a lot of writing on the board! Betch-hamel sauce, hm? Never heard of it," added the bubbly puppy. The church grim had never heard of the sauce, and thus butchered the pronunciation with much gusto. This would probably be a trend that continued for most of the class with the fancier words. "A roocks (roux)...what the eff is that? Wait, is that that when you burn the oily flour in the pan first? I think I saw that on TV..."

The reason Rika was even going to a cooking class in the first place was because he loved food and as a result of his love for food he wanted to improve his cooking skills. Yes, he could cook passable food that he could eat on his own, but he was looking to make finer things in life. So he approached the class full of hope. He would enter the classroom shortly after another and look around seeing the stations already set up for them. It looked like a fun class, but that writing on the board. The kitsune would pause next to a station near the front of the classroom and stare at the board for a moment with narrowed eyes as he read the different things that were there. They were suppose to be making a sauce he hadn't heard of before and from the looks of it, it looked like a complicated process for some sauce. He just hoped he didn't mess it up. Hmm maybe he should write it down for future study, but before that....
His attention would turn to the talktive girl and the woman she spoke to. "A roux is typically the start of a sauce usually a mixture of flour and oil browned in the pan from what I can recall," and something tricky to master. He couldn't count how many times he messed that one up. That aside though... "In any case, my name is Rika Sakia. It is a pleasure to meet you both."

The Vamp Wolf | Well, Sharaku didn't consider himself to be especially interested in cooking expertise, but he did find it to be a fairly nice activity to do when one needed to pass time. Plus, he had to pick some classes, so might as well make do with ones that seemed at least somewhat interesting. He'd never bother to be a master chef, but cooking was way better than some other boring menial tasks. Walking in after two others, he'd be silent at first, focused on scanning over the board which was grabbing attention due to being jam packed with notes. With his memory, he didn't think he'd need to write any of it down, although he had to wonder where this was going. And how well he was going to sit with this class. No offense to anyone, but he was more of a minimalist and a simplistic person when it came to stuff such as cooking, and generally saw no need to go overly complicated or fancy. At times, a simple meal did much better than an expensive, overdone one. It was a waste of money and time, unless you were serving high class people who demanded everything to be fancy and the best it could be. As long as you knew how to cook in general, you would be able to make even a simple food mix tasty enough to satisfy most normal people. No need for pointless glamour, really.
Nevertheless, he was here now, so there was that. "Right. Why do we need special terms for an action anyway? Those who come here without any prior knowledge may not even know what they're being asked to do." Well, maybe the teacher was planning to explain, but it could easily get confusing if terms like that were thrown about a lot left and right. He'd shake his head slightly, golden eyes glancing towards the other occupants of the room for now. "Anyway, the name's Sharaku Rikei. This better be interesting." Because the complex looking notes didn't particularly look like a fun time to him as it was right now. Couldn't it be done in less steps than that? Who has the time to spend so much on just a sauce... |

From the look of things the other students currently in the class seemed to be a good few years older than her at the least, but that was to be expected in numerous classes considering the course load she had taken on. Hopefully like most of the other classes she had chosen to take her peers wouldn't cause any trouble for her. Even if she was extremely studious? Taking so many classes when she had only recently become a teenager was still a hefty load to carry and took expectational concertation. The more intimidating part was only one other student was even slightly familiar so far. Lavender was just lucky she did have some cooking experience since it was impossible for Kaiden to always cook for her and the twins, so as she had grown up she had taken to doing it something to make things easier on him. Sadly, she lacked her brothers years of experience and only had what she found on the internet to make basic edible dishes, hopefully with this class the twins would prefer her cooking over big brothers.
Sitting at her cooking station, next to Shara's she was already taking notes, mostly translations for cooking terms she did not yet know due to her being sustainably more inexperienced than the other students due to age. roux, the start of a sauce flower and oil browned in a pan. She tried not to take too extensive of notes, but she would likely take the most notes in this class compared to any other student in it, just needed to accept that. Having noted what she heard from her peers, Lavender looked between her station and the board, trying to relate everything so she could be prepared for when the class officially started occasionally jotting something down.

| the look of me when i opened my eyes,
it was so bright that i didnt dare approach |
A simple, innocent reason caused Chan Hee to choose a Culinary Arts class for one of his savory, few electives. Curiosity. He only knows how to cook traditional Alatum food. Most of which's ingredients are nowhere to be found in Mistere. Since moving into Mystopolis and into the academy, he's been mostly surviving off of boiled vegetables and raw fruits. Not that he has a simple palette, though, because the blandness of starch and water is another reason he signed up for the class.
He doesn't know what he's in for. The professional culinary world is oft ruthless to herbivores like himself. At least he eats dairy. Or else this class would be a nightmare.
The minute bell rings, and he walks in almost late. Tastefully abstaining from socializing his future classmates before the class starts, he chooses the mini-kitchen closest to the teacher's desk. He sets down his backpack onto the ground with a light plop and unzips it. He pulls out his uPad and snaps a picture of the information on the board. He has no business writing all of that mess down. At all. With a few taps he adds it to a newly created album.
He doesn't read what's on the board. Firstly, he needs to figure out how a modern kitchen even works. Fire cooking doesn't really exists in his village, and he's been gracefully side stepping from using a stove until he was forced to. Ugh. If only he knew how to turn the thing on. He fiddles with the metal platforms above the burners, trying to reach under them. There has to be some mechanism beneath here to turn it on. Right? He doesn't even touch the knobs. The bell rings before he can sleuth it out. He's going to need a LOT of help. LAIKA OF THQ

{ } Looking at the students as they filed in, Dahlia would find herself already feeling exhausted just looking at the bunch of them. Feeling herself growing a little more angry, the witch would slip on a pair of red glasses while tying her hair in a rather messy bun, missing a fair bit of strands as they messily fell from the cluster of hair. Looking at the first person who walked into her class, the witch would simply scan her, her gaze turning pink as she analyzed her. Adrisse Flygare. That was a mouthful that took a lot longer than needed to say. "I'll just call you Adri. It'll save me time when I have to yell at you for burning the roux." Pointing to a kitchen station near the front, she'd direct Adri to this specific one to her right in case she really needed to put out the fire that the young Church Grim might set. "Please head over to that station over there, some people such as yourself will get a special task."The next person who would walk in seemed rather knowledgable. However, he commented where it wasn't needed. Dahlia would be able to suffice in this room by herself. "Thank you for your input, Sakia. Although, I don't recall asking for participation when you aren't even at your station yet." Pointing in the direction of the kitchen station to the left of Adri, the witch would continue to add somewhat snappily, "Please take a seat and wait for class to formally start." She hadn't even started and she was already feeling somewhat tired. She also had the feeling she wouldn't be teaching many who were trained with cooking. The next person to walk in was already questioning her teaching tactics. Turning to face the young man, the young witch would cross her arms and switch her weight to one hip as she looked at him dead in the face, "We have them named so that you can pass knowledge and give directions to those who don't understand what they are doing. It's not solely about presenting dishes on a show and explaining what it is. I'm completely aware that those who don't have experience might be lost but I have something in mind to keep them occupied for the time being." Snapping her fingers as another kitchen station behind Rika glowed with an omnious blue light, "Now make your comments after I give the lecture. I don't expect any of you to do good with this because each of you are new for different reasons. Whether it be technology or just being inept."One girl had seemed to already take her seat and was taking notes. Clearing her throat to catch the girl's attention, the witch would speak, "Miss, may I have your name to confirm that you are in the correct class?" She'd also bring her attention to a student who looked completely lost with what he was doing. "I'm going to assume that you are... Mr. Chan Hee." An impeccable pronounciation of the name would leave the witch's lips as she watched him struggled to turn on the stove. With her hand glowing blue, the woman would flick the knob to on with her magic, turning the burners on at max power. The fire would be extremely large due to the witch inflating it with her power and using it to form a dragon purely made of flames. Guiding to her hand, the dragon would shrink to the size of her palm as she slammed her fist shut, creating small fireworks. Flicking the stove off with her powers, the witch would chuckle as the bell rang. Standing in front of the class, the woman would look at her group of misfits that she called a class as she sighed. Okay, she seriously overestimated them. Snapping her fingers, the chalk on the board would completely turn into dust as it gathered up in her palm. Pondering in her mind for a second, the woman would end up with an idea. Flicking the chalk dust onto the board once again, it would fly and essentially splat against the board, writing 'Prepare your best dish for me, so I can actually deduce what I'm working with.' Turning to the class again, the pink haired woman would adjust her glasses as she spoke somewhat sternly, "Let me know if you require assistance or an environment change so that cooking is easier for you." Sitting on her desk, the woman would create an hourglass out of this air as she continued, "There is endless ingredients in the fridge towards the back of the class as well as the pantry that surrounds it. You all have forty minutes to finish a dish and present to me. Do the best thing you can possibly muster and if it isn't up to my standards, you get an D. You are free to try more than one dish as well. Good luck. Your time starts now. The witch would smile as she crossed her legs and slammed the hourglass down on the table, while the grains of sand slowly began to pour. MADE BY VEL OF GS

The aforementioned Adri would take herself to her indicated station, impatiently waiting for the class to officially start. At least she'd learned it wasn't pronounced "roocks" and that it was the "roo" to kanga instead. Not that it mattered, because it seemed the teacher's fear that she'd set what Rika had explained ablaze as would the rest of the class, now they all had a different task. Prepare their best meal. If she'd had her dog ears visible, they'd have been quite perked up. Her mind jumped to her very favorite thing. Steak. Juicy, nearly raw steak. With simply that in mind, she wasted no time running to the fridge to find the thickest cut of red flesh. That was the easy part. However, just as she'd been about to turn tail and race back to her station, it occurred to her that she might have meant a complete meal, in the traditional meaning of the word. That gave the church grim pause. Adrisse rarely got past the meat portion of any meal, so it was a difficult think to remember what it was served with. Potatoes of some kind? Maybe something green? A type of bean...?
After a few moments she returned with the meat, a few potatoes, and some fresh green beans. There weren't any canned items to be found, which was concerning. She had no idea how to make the side dishes other than opening a can and heating it up, and even then she burned them the one time she tried. That would prove an omen. She threw the potatoes into a pot of water whole and unskinned, and while the water started to heat up and boil she dumped the green beans into a skillet. With no oil or water, the beens started to pop around in the skillet, which she took as a good sign of cooking. Some started to smoke, so that seemed a good time to start the meat. In another skillet, she placed the only seasoned food at the station into it, earning a sizzle and a pleasing aroma amongst the burning raw bean smoke. Adrisse had only used salt and pepper, but sometimes simplicity with meat was best....as was only lightly cooking it, in her opinion.
Plating her monstrosity, the rare steak soaked in its own blood in juices, which also touched and moistened the blackened crunchy green beans and the wrinkly potatoes that she'd smashed with her fist, earning her a slight scald to the hand. Despite this, she seemed pleased, sneakily munching small bites of the steak.
((OOC: As a good cook myself, that was painful to write. x.x ))
