welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Seeing and knowing that she was enjoying the fact that she broke him only made the entire situation even worse for Oras. He was beginning to hate this entire ordeal, wishing that she just went along with it. While it was true he could just return to his world and await another summoner, he didn't know how long that would take.. And he was quickly running out of time. So for now he was just going to have to suck it up and find a way to deal with this woman. Maybe he could slip a few comments in and convince her that it was simply habit. There was another type of individual he talked down to other than idiots and weaklings after all: People who annoyed him. And that list was definitely going to be the most extensive. They were the last time he was here and they would be this time as well. Her answer to him was quite, which he automatically assumed was a yes. Why did he have to get this summoner? It was the absolute worst combination for him. The first being that she was an attractive female. The second being that she was very formal and courteous, not to mention she had zero interest in combat let alone adventuring. And third was that she was intelligent enough to call him out on his bluff and essentially blackmail him. Or, at least a form of it.
When she told him her answer he stared at her for a second before walking back over to her. "Let me get this straight: You decided to summon a being from an alternate realm of existence. A being with combat capabilities and powers, meant to protect their summoner and obliterate their foes. Beings with a mind of their own, as well as their own goals and personalities... All because you were curious? Of what? Who we are? What we look like? You saying you deem Atranoch's as nothing more than research subjects?" Now, here he was calling her out. And he wasn't about to back out any time soon. This. This was insulting. To be summoned here and denied everything that made him who he was, all because his summoner was just a little curious?

Perhaps she could have played along with him, but the outrageous disrespect had encouraged Inglisse to do just the opposite. She called him out on his behavior, seeing that there must have been an ulterior motive to his demeanor and actions. He was hiding something, and while she did not demand he tell her, she still would not put up with his condescending words in his fairly pathetic attempts at hiding motives. If anything, however, he had enabled her to easily prove her intelligence to him and show she was not to be meddled with in that regard. And sure her simply tanking his attack could prove she was a bold individual; not that she cared too much what he thought, but a smart would at least would take note of it and either deem it daring or reckless. She could handle either label.
Finally, her simple words stirred a stark reaction which triggered the boy to begin walking back towards her, away from the frozen tree. She allowed him to finish his little rant, seeing it as more of a demand than a call out. She was not hiding anything, after all. “Yes,” the blonde answered simply, her facial expressions having never changed once from the tranquil but confident grin she had held this whole time. Inglisse paused for a few moments, allowing the atranoch to react to her simple answer before continuing. “Look at it this way, I’m not going to demand you stick by my side at all hours, nor am I going to demand and force you to fight for me. If I’m ever in a fight, I will welcome your fighting alongside me. You may also take this looser form of relationship between summoner and summon as an opportunity; you said you had a goal, did you not? Without being required to see to my every need, you will have more chances to fulfill said goal, and depending on what it is, I might be able to assist,” she answered gingerly.
“The other option is you could find a way to go home and wait for some “worthy” fighter to summon you. But in a time of relative peace, you won’t find many fighting for noble causes. Unless terrorism strikes your fancy, I’m afraid there’s not much that can be done. The academy I attend has combat courses and training fields if you want a spar, however~” she answered honestly, not really answering “why” she only wanted him for research purposes, but instead offering him another perspective. She wished to see how he would take it. The glacial atranoch seemed to have tunnel vision of expectations, so how would he react to rather fair alternatives?

He was nothing more than a lab rat to her. Nothing more than something to study and research for the sake of research. She had no intention to lead him to any action of any sort. And from what he could tell she would be no help at all in any sense, in getting him to where he needed to be. The air would suddenly drop to ten degrees fahrenheit. "Despite the fact that I'll have to wait a long time before being summoned again, you have ten seconds to persuade me not to kill you where you stand." He could probably spread word among the other atranoch to try and help him find humans who would summon him, if they themselves were summoned. He knew many who would help him if he told them why he needed to be on this world. It was a long shot, but it was far better than being stuck with this woman for the rest of his life. If she was indeed powerful then he may perish by her hand, but he didn't really care. He kills her, she kills him, he returns to his realm either way. And right now she has been denied her one escape goat: His dependence. Right now he was too furious to let that bother him.
He let her speak her mind and she did in fact seem to be trying to persuade him to stay. He noticed that she still hadn't explained why she only wanted him for research, but he'd keep that as a mental note. Most likely she wouldn't give him a straight answer, not unless he stacked evidence against her. So. He'd keep a list. A list of events, times, actions and words that indicate she was hiding something so he could use it to force information out of her at a later date. That is, of course, assuming she convinced him to stay in the end. And so far, she was not doing so well. Telling him he could go do whatever he wanted, and that she didn't care was already a red flag. It seemed he was going to have to educate her more on what it was to be an atranoch. Even if it meant she was just getting more 'research' data out of him he didn't care. If they were doing this, they were doing it right.
"Strike one. Even if you don't know anything about atranoch's I'm holding this one against you. First things first: I was summoned by you. Therefore I'm not going to be ditching you anytime soon. I'm bound to this world through you, and therefore we are in fact bound together. Therefore, if I stay, I'll be learning everything I can about you and from you. I'll be ensuring your safety, and if you have goals I can get behind assist you in that area as well. I will not be ditching you anytime soon. As for my goal, how you can assist is traveling to this place with me. We won't be making the trip however, until we can find some sort of balance." Unlike you humans, he thought to himself, I'm not actually selfish, though it may seem like it at times.

Good, she had gotten him to explain the details she wanted to him, just like that. He was solidifying their bond by saying it aloud, making it known to her and basically reaffirming it for himself. He mentioned them finding some sort of ‘balance’, which amused the girl who had yet to really make a single demand. She personally had no goals she wanted his help in, other than her continued observation of him, which was passive. The snowy-haired boy, however, was quite full of demands and particulars. It amused her that he would threaten to kill her, but even if he did, well, she had a remedy for that. Hopefully such a thing would not befall them too quickly, however. She really did have no intention of fighting him.
She had not yet explained her reasons and the “why” behind her answers simply because she had not yet been asked. Why waste breathe and give extra information that had not been asked or paid for? “What’s strike two~?” Inglisse asked with a smirk, leaning in towards him. He had been the one summoned, yet he was quite an idealist on just about everything so far. She had nothing else to add yet, and was satisfied just to hear him talk and ramble on. Were other atranochs similar? She would have to take note of this one and compare it to another one day should she ever find the chance.

His eyes narrowed, no humor in them anymore. Instead, only a shortening thread of patience with an icy flame waiting to burst out. "Strike two." he told her simply. "Listen. I am not some research subject. I am not a tool for you to use. I am not a guinea pig for you to experiment on. And I do not appreciate you toying with me, and exploiting a weakness in the one you summoned." He hoped that by now she would understand that he had already caught onto what she was doing. He wasn't an idiot. And he was not enjoying her actions and words. However he was, begrudgingly, willing to accept that she was in fact intelligent. Equal to his level at least. The only reason she had high ground however, was because of his one true weakness. His dependency on their bond, on his summoner. If it were not for that, this conversation would be going in a totally different direction. A great example is that he wouldn't be pissed as hell with her for exploiting his dependency on her. He was starting to learn just what kind of person she truly was...
"Now then..." he said, dropping the temperature further down, slowly creeping into the range where humans could be permanently harmed if exposed to such cold for too long. "No more bullshit. No more dodging my questions. You give me full explanations. Do you have any actual long term goals? Do you have any desires you wish to see come true? And do you, or do you not want a companion, a partner, to help you see those goals and desires come true?"

He was keen enough to catch on, but was it not obvious by this point? She had chosen the honest route, and here someone was, angry at the naked truth. Nobody ever liked the sharp and ugly sting of lies. The soft sweet feeling of lies certainly did feel better. Inglisse, however, had enough respect for the atranoch to not resort to dishonesty. Besides, the reaction to the truth could be far more interesting. She noticed the temperature getting colder, but was doing her best to resist it both by sheer willpower and some help of an unknown. Claiming he was no research subject really was none of her concern; if something existed, it could be studied. It was not like she was about to take him to a lab and try out a whole line of new serums on him, no. That was not her intention. And never had she claimed she wished to use him as a tool; she had even made it explicitly clear she did not need his help and had no intention of ordering him around. Quite a jumpy fellow, to assume such things without having known her for more than a couple minutes. Well, she would let him continue to assume his fantasies when the situation was not what he had wished for. She had no reason to prove anything to him or go on the defensive.
Oras asked his question and would be met with the blonde repositioning herself, no longer leaning towards him. “Wouldn’t you like to know~?” she mused with a small intentional tease, holding onto her little research book with fresh notes from both that afternoon along with her research on the mulberry plant over the last few weeks. “Of course I have goals and ambitions. I’m not aimless. And I certainly would not mind some help sometimes,” Inglisse added generally, giving a small shrug. She saw no reason to divulge in her own goals, hopes, and dreams, when he could not give her that or even his last name. What more did he want from her?

He continued to glare at her. This woman was begging to be pummeled and stabbed. He wanted to be the one to do it right now... And yet... He closed his eyes and sheathed his sword as he took a deep breath. He didn't return the temperature to normal, but he stopped dropping it. He took two steps back before he opened his eyes again. Enmity still hanging in them for the way she was treating him. He should have seen it coming of course, due to his choice of words towards others, but still. "Whether you tell me what your goals are or not.. I'm going to help you achieve them. You have to understand this Inglesse, I am not like your kind. While I enjoy the freedom to do as I wish, and while I have my own goals that need to be fulfilled before I part from this world a second time, one of the main reasons I am here is so that I can work with you. I help you achieve your goals, and you help me achieve mine. Equivalent exchange. A rule of your world which I only follow under certain circumstances. One of them being when I form a partnership." He sighed as he placed a hand to his forehead, rubbing it as if he had a headache.
"I agreed not to treat you like shit. If I talk like that in public simply be snarky back to me. My request. Request mind you, not demand. Is that we start working together and treat each other like partners. I treat and talk to you fairly, and you do the same with me. I apologize for how I acted when I arrived, if you really want an apology. I will not be telling you why I did so however so don't bother asking that." He placed a hand on his side as he looked at her. "You ok with that? Or are we going to keep this little game going for a while longer? With anyone else I'd have no problem with that, but not with my summoner. Not with a partner."

So, he finally came around. Inglisse half expected him to lash out and was fully prepared to defend herself. Fortunately, it appeared she did not have to. He sheathed the blade and stopped dropping the temperature; which was good, as she had begun to shiver slightly from her bare skin exposed to the cold. Sure, she could curb it to a degree, but she was in no hurry to use an obvious talent. He mentioned equivalent exchange, which brought another knowing smile to the girl’s face. It was a rough but slightly flawed concept she understood and could accept. It was the realm of most social sciences to a degree. “Fair enough,” she stated as he mentioned helping her with her goals. There was only so close she would allow him to get, but she would not mind some general help from time to time.
He then apologized and asked they work like partners. Only now had he truly come full circle. He had led them off on the rabbit trail, one that likely had left him somewhat mentally and emotionally exhausted. They could have wrapped up these agreements earlier, but only now were they finally coming to light. His conclusion was what she would consider something of a mildly aggressive hook, but it only made the atranoch that much more interesting. “Well, I accept your apology and I have no objections,” Inglisse answered, deciding against mentioning how they could have come to this agreement much sooner had he not been acting like a foolish prick. Nitpicking and criticizing would get her nowhere in this situation. “Now, why don’t we turn the temperature back up and perhaps head back to my dorm? I can make us some tea, and if you absolutely want crumpets, I can buy some on the way~” she said with a warm smile followed by a teasing giggle on the idea of crumpets, as he had mentioned in his malicious response to her introduction.

Hearing her agree, accept, and with no objections, would make this a bit easier for him. He had a feeling she was holding back on him, but he would deal with that at a later date... This was never supposed to happen. It wasn't supposed to be this way. The last time he was summoned he acted cocky, and the man he ran into just acted snarky back, playing along. He even made a few sick burns of his own back at Oras. Not only that, but when he was summoned it was in the middle of a fight. The two hadn't even met each other up until that moment, and yet, despite that they were able to work very well together. Giving out commands to one another during combat. Warnings of certain attacks, whether to strike, dodge, retreat, switch. Afterwards they took some time to get to know one another. They were partners. And now... Oras looked at the woman standing in front of him and knew. He would never get that again. Humans... They were a frustrating species. Even worse, he had to deal with the gender he was most uncomfortable with. She was nothing like him. She even chose to exploit his one dependency. His one ultimate weakness. He doubted she actually cared about anyone if she would stoop so low as to make such a move.
And yet. He needed to put up with it. Despite that he hated her and her methods. Despite that he was disgusted with her. Despite the fact that he was shy and uncomfortable around girls. Despite that she was clearly not interested in getting to know him, becoming partners, let alone friends. He had no choice but to endure it. In order to see his goal fulfilled. After he did, he could ditch her and head back home. Hopefully he will have convinced another human to summon him other than this one.. Maybe then he could truly enjoy this world again.
He heard what she said and rolled his eyes. When she mentioned the crumpets he'd smirk back and say "Oh nice one! I always loved banal remarks. How long did it take for you to come up with that one I wonder?" he asked as they walked away. Even as they did so, and he dropped the temperature down to a tolerable level.. He wasn't enjoying himself. In fact. He was already counting the minutes.

His sarcastic remark made it evident that he did not perceive the good will in her words, even if she was teasing just a little. He certainly did leap to conclusions quickly, she noted, and appeared to be a bit jumpy overall. Perhaps he had a reason for it, as if his snarky behavior was some sort of defense mechanism. Well, she would find out in due time. If it were as simple as that, it would not take too long to confirm.
“Well I was being serious. But if you don’t want ‘crumpets’, we can settle on some pastries I have at my dorm,” Inglisse said with a smile as they walked, dismissing his remark. She could be snarky back, but did not necessarily feel this was the time nor place. Besides, it seemed to throw him off that she could remain cordial despite his behavior, and that alone was satisfying enough for the blonde. “I’ve already made preparations in the dormitory for you to have your own room. It isn’t very big, but it’s nice and homely, with a few essentials and a desk. If you want, you can attend my classes with me or register for your own nearby if you prefer.”
Indeed, the rooms of the Sage dorms often had a small fridge and microwave, along with a lamp and some electrical outlets. Inglisse personally used an electric burner to boil water in her teapot in her own shared dorm with her roommate. If it was not already obvious to him, she was certainly a college student. Hopefully he knew a thing or two about the famous academy she attended. “By the way, Oras, you can just call me Lissy. That’s what others call me around here,” she said as she walked, deciding to lose the formality and hopefully break the ice a little more, no pun intended.

Hearing her speak up again, he was pretty surprised that she was being serious. However, he didn't know if she was honestly trying to be nice, or if she was just saying that to gain his favor. Women were confusing enough, but this one.. Her smile caused him to look away again, and he tried to sell it as if he were losing interest. "Oh gosh you were serious? So then you do have tea and crumpets? Ha ha! Oh my gosh, I am going to have so much fun running that joke." He debated whether or not he should give her an actual answer or not. In the end he decided to, specifically to keep her from threatening him with sending him back again. "As long as the cooking isn't revolting, I should be able to have and enjoy most foods. As an Atranoch I don't need to eat anything technically. I simply have to absorb some of my own element and I'm fully charged." When she told him that she had made arrangements in the dormitory for him to have a room of his own, he knew that wasn't good enough. And it wasn't that he was selfish. It was another matter altogether...
"While it's nice that you planned ahead, and I wonder how on earth you were able to anticipate which gender I'd be.. Unless you prepped two rooms just in case, if the 'living room' of your dorms is closer to your room than mine is, I'll be staying there. Atranoch's don't need sleep, we never have. So I'll be spending the night hours ensuring the area is safe." He turned to look into her eyes, his own giving off a serious, and rather knowing look. "If I've learned anything from the last time I came to your world, it's how untrustworthy and cruel your kind are. You can't change my mind on this." With that he turned and continued to walk with her in silence. When she told him to call her Lissy he chuckled. "Aw, but then how will I make fun of your name for sounding like a language?" He stopped for a few seconds before finishing. "...Lissy. Please don't make me regret coming back to this world... If you listen to anything I have to say, let it be that."

Inglisse had no intention to gain his favor persuade him to highly respect her. That would imply she actually cared a lot about what he thought. While she liked the idea of being treated as an equal, he was an amusing one no matter how he thought or treated her. It would be up to him if he wished to stick by her side or not. “I don’t usually have crumpets, but if you so wish for them I’m willing to buy some,” she gently corrected as he turned his head. At least he seemed pleased that there was a joke to be made of it. The bit of information he had to give her concerning atranochs and their diets certainly was interesting and something worth noting to write down later.
He made note of her planning. Really, Sage had plenty of open dorms. She only had to reserve the possibility of one being open. Not that the staff minded, really. He mentioned he did not need sleep either, which was fairly curious. Well, he could entertain himself while she slept, certainly. He would not be allowed in the girls’ side of the dorm, but she would allow him to figure that out himself, rather than restrict what he could or could not do thus far. “Humans? Untrustworthy and cruel? It’s more likely than you think~” she joked, affirming what he said as they walked, a small giggle in her voice. He once more mentioned her name sounding like some sort of language. It must have been some language she had not heard of, really. But of course, he had lived longer and likely experienced traveling to more places. He could have easily learned of a language she had not yet heard of. There were many tongues out there-- tribal, isolated, dead, dying, and overall just rarely spoken.
However, he turned to a more serious note before she could respond to his tease. “I can do my best,” she responded as she continued to walk, not turning to him or making eye contact. She merely retained the same grin from before. “What it is that would make you regret that, beyond what you’ve already told me, I wouldn’t know. But I suppose the least I could do is try. Does that satisfy you?” Inglisse asked as she walked, no snarky or demeaning tone in her voice; but rather, sincerity.

Oras heard her mentioning how it was more likely than he thought when it came to humans and deceit. He scoffed as he thought of all the treachery he and his old summoner had to cut through just to survive. "I've experienced a full human lifetime of their cruelty and untrustworthy nature. If anyone doesn't know the extent of it it's you." He knew. He himself experienced much pain, but there were many times where the torture, both physical and mental, would occur to someone else. People he wanted to protect. People who put their trust in him. He didn't trust humans for one shred of a second. And that wouldn't change for a very, very long time.
She didn't seem to be opposed to him insisting he be as close as physically allowed to her and her room in order to keep the area secure. That was good, as it meant he'd only have rumors to handle. Those he could handle with ease, but he wasn't sure how Inglisse would take them. She'd probably ignore them if he was honest but still. When she answered him, she didn't turn to look at him. She didn't stop grinning. And she didn't stop walking. She did however, speak with sincerity in her voice. Whether or not she was truly sincere was another matter altogether. For now however, he'd listen to her words and say: "For the meantime.. Yes."
