welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Page six hundred and seventeen. The tome certainly had grown rather large over the course of many years, with notes filling up every bit of free space on the once blank pages. The girl had relied on the book and would continue to do so, it being the very foundation of her talent and the only thing keeping her curiosity at a level that could be considered sane for the most part. Without it, she would wander aimlessly, not fully remembering every detail what she had already tried so long ago. Even with an eidetic memory, she had to root herself and her findings somehow to prove her thoughts were correct.
Finger tracing the words on the page with the header titled as “atranoch”, Inglisse took in any last minute information and double checked herself. Everything had to be perfect, or else there was no telling what might happen. A tragic accident? A broken summon? The wrong summon? The possibilities went on. Hazel eyes scanned the circle she had created with various symbols from an archaic language. Tracing the circle was powdery moonlight, at least nine different kinds of ice, a sweet-smelling red pulpy liquid, and a ruby and sapphire in the middle. How she had come across the various ingredients was a long and complicated story, but here she was with them all in the twilight hours.
Activating her Unknown power, more formally called a “talent” by the school that resided in the same city, Inglisse began her attempt to summon a unique being of Elentros. A few soft words from the archaic language left her lips as the circle glowed a soft blue. With luck, the precious stones would disappear, the powdery moonlight would be scattered, and the red liquid smeared in mysterious designs. Oh how she hoped it would be successful; she could color herself impressed with the information she had on the elemental-like beings that were able to be summoned from another plane of existence. They were best summoned for protection, of course, but the inquisitive girl had many questions to ask one as she grew to know them. For now, someone to rely on for protection while she worked would be enough, surely, while she observed and studied them in peace.

Oras could feel it. It was that magical aura. That tugging at one's soul. It was the feeling of a summon. He looked around and could immediately tell that the others had felt it too. Each of them wondering who would vanish. Which one of them would have been taken from their own world, and brought into the material one. Who was going to be summoned? All of the atranoch's had some form of desire to be summoned of course. Oras, was no exception. He was particularly eager to be brought into the physical realm. And thus he dared the forces of nature and of the universe to send anyone else other than him. If they did he would be royally pissed, and not at all afraid to trash the place. Much to his pleasure, he could feel the sensation growing. Good, that meant he was one of the most likely to be summoned. He felt the feeling get stronger, watched other atranoch's wander away after being passed on.
And then it happened.
He felt the sensation light up and a smirk grew on his face. He could feel his body shatter into shards and blow through the dimensions like a moving blizzard. He had no idea where he would end up this time but he didn't care. He was returning to the realm of the physical. As he began to enter the material realm, his body slowly pieced back together, taking the shape of a human now. The closer he got the more his body shaped like an average human, until: His shape was complete and he took on the color of his human form, his clothes materializing around him. Soon enough he appeared. From his perspective, he simply just dropped in out of nowhere. From his summoner's perspective however, there would be a blizzard that erupted from the circle and would spin tightly around it, only to be thrown to the sides revealing Oras.
The atranoch looked around to find they were in the middle of a park at night. No one was around. "Hmm..." He looked down and saw the magic circle his summoner had created. The language was foreign to him, though he should have expected that. There was moonlight dust, some gems, a handful of ice, and some liquid that, he wasn't exactly sure of. He then looked at his summoner.
...A GIRL?! A small look of surprise would show for only half a second before he composed himself and played it off as simple sexist shock. He'd prefer that over what it really was. He sighed and placed a hand on his forehead, his eyes closed with a rather annoyed expression.
"Ugh. If I was summoned because you thought it would be a cool pastime, or because someone dared you to, so help me." He walked right on by her as if she didn't exist, not looking at her whatsoever... For reasons she wouldn't know. He quickly pulled a sword from thin air and began swinging it a few times. After that he grinned and sheathed it. "That's better. Well then, looks like you can at least summon properly. Or maybe you cheated somehow. Either way I'm here, so let's make something clear sweet cheeks." He turned to the girl, a strong smug look on his face as he spoke. "If your reason for summoning me is pathetic. If you yourself are pathetic in any way. And if you intend to use me like a tool, or like a maid servant. You'll find that it shall be you who will be serving me. Not the other way around. Can you process all that dearie?"

And there he was, in a dazzling array of ice and cold winds that quickly expanded, the snowy-haired figure stood in the middle of the circle as she had anticipated. To her it seemed she had used the correct element in the summoning circle in order to summon an atranoch of the glacier element. There was shock first on his face, followed by a facepalm as he muttered his first words in his time with her. Honestly, they were far from what she had expected. The excited smile on her face melted away for a few moments as he walked right past her, summoning a sword before continuing that it seemed she could summon properly. Ah, so he was going to be like that, was he? Well, two could play at that game. A small smirk crept to her features as he concluded and turned to her. She slowly fingered down on the page labeled “atranochs” and found a blank space just waiting to be scribbled on.
Inglisse began writing notes down with a mirrored smug grin on her face. As she wrote them down, she began to read them aloud. “Glacier Atranochs: Blizzard eruption upon summoning. Temperament upon summoning: Cocky asshole~” she read in a gentle voice with the proud smile plastered on her face. Upon highlighting the last word with her tone, she briskly closed the book with a soft clap of a noise and gazed up at the sapphire-eyed atranoch. “Not really the best way to greet a lady, or anyone for that matter, but I suppose you’ll learn. Introductions first-- my name is Inglisse Carroll,” the platinum blonde-haired girl said politely, absolutely no malice or anything of the sort in her voice. No, she would be formal when directly speaking to him. “Now, to answer your question, I can process your words just fine. However, do enlighten me on how you define ‘pathetic’,” she said with a polite but confident grin. If all of his kind were like this, they certainly were an interesting race or species. Or maybe she just got stuck with the rude one. That was always a possibility.

He was quiet as she shifted her attention from him to her book again, a smile. No, a smirk on her face as she began to write in it. She began speaking and as he heard her words he had a mental sigh of relief. If she was going to be competitive then this would be easier. "Wooow," he said as she closed her book. "What a nice comeback. You must be so proud of yourself." When she turned to look him in the eyes again, she spoke. This time however there was no insults or arrogance, just a very formal and gentle approach. What?! What happened to the competition? Or was she just not going to let him get to her? Scratch what he thought beforehand. This is going to be very, very uncomfortable with her.
"Oh so you're a lady! My apologies. Hold tight while I go get my tea and crumpets!" He rolled his eyes. "Please." She then began introductions, giving out her name. So his new summoner was a woman named Inglisse Carroll? He smirked. "A pleasure to meet you English. Never thought I'd meet a language before." So help him he'd make a crack in that grin of hers eventually. "You can call me Oras. Pardon if I don't give my last name until I feel you deserve it, but I'm a bit.. Skeptical of people who need a 'book' to summon someone."
When she asked him for clarity on what 'pathetic' was to him he took a second to think for a moment. Then a smile came to his face. Why not have some fun with this? "Well, since for some reason you decided to summon me outside of combat." He drew his sword and charged her, his blade supposedly aiming to kill. "I'll just bring the first test to you!" If she managed to block his blade somehow the duel would begin, and she'd realize he was actually quite skilled with a human weapon. If she tried to escape he'd simply dematerialize and rematerialize in front of her. If she had some power that could get around her sword, his body would simply shift around as it was simply ice, and evade her blow while continuing to advance.

Inglisse simply maintained her gentle smile as he spoke. “It wasn’t supposed to be a comeback,” she gingerly corrected. It was a note in her book for the sake of research. His cocky words continued, but none of them caused the platinum blonde to react in any way. English? What a funny-sounding language. She did find it amusing that there was a language that sounded quite similar to the name she had chosen for herself. The people in Mistere spoke a common tongue, but it would not surprise her that the atranoch knew more than she regarding languages-- he had lived a lot longer and likely had seen more places.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Oras,” she responded politely with a warm smile, not acknowledging the previous insults. He went on to answer her question, drawing his blade as he did so. It was going to be like that, was it? “I must say though, it’s a shame to be dismayed that you were summoned outside of combat. We’re in a time of fragile peace; do you really wish for it to be war?” Inglisse asked, gently dropping her research book in a manner that would allow it to hit the ground without opening or getting damaged. As he charged for her, the girl simply held one hand in the other behind her back in a relaxed state, her gentle and confident grin unwavering as he charged. She never once batted an eyelash as he made his movements and simply awaited the strike if it were to come. She was not afraid; she had a way to remedy wounds, but would the newly summoned atranoch really be one to kill the person who summoned him into this world? What would the others of his kind think? Such questions excited the mind of the human girl, who was not showing any signs of dodging, blocking, or fighting back. "Surely there is a reason you were the one brought here. Tell me, do you have a wish or goal to achieve while you're here on Skiagis?" she continued quickly but in a kind manner while he rushed.

Her first response was that it wasn't in fact a comeback at all, and he looked at the book again. "Pfft, what? So you're writing a diary? How cute." He knew it wasn't a diary however, by the way the design and the words were written down. Especially what was on the page itself. However at the same time, he wasn't about to stop throwing jokes and insults at her anytime soon. It was becoming annoying however, with her lack of reactions. She immediately continued on to greet him formally, being polite and having a warm smile on her face and- He instantly cooled his body down, quickly preventing him from gaining even the hint of a blush. "Mutual, I'm sure.." He heard her words but didn't bother to reply until after his little 'exam' was over. As he charged he saw no evidence of her defending herself, nor preparing to. In fact, she dropped her book half mindedly. Disappointed, he simply cut her along the cheek as he sped by her, making sure the cut was long. He hoped it would be permanent. A scar made her more manly, and that would make it easier for him to be around her.
"Alright kids, class is over. Your results: B for observance. A+ for dull." He turned around and lay his sword on his shoulder. "At least you can put two and two together. Congratulations! You just advanced from Amateur! Maybe one day you'll hit mediocre!" He swung his blade around as he walked over to her. "Listen princess, you need to learn how to have a little fun. I enjoy a good fight, whether it's training, just a spar, or taking down some monster or villain. Not to mention people normally conjure and summon us into being because they need help with a fight." He looked at her skeptically. "And forgive me, but while you're smart enough to read a book well enough to perform a summon, I'll consider you a noob until you prove me wrong."
When she asked him what his plans and goals were, the thought of his old man's family flashed in his mind. That, and sitting on a pile of gold that was surrounded by hordes of slain foes. "Heh, I'll be the one asking the questions kiddie. Why did you summon me? Answer right, and I won't just ditch you here and now."

More insults streamed from the snowy-haired boy. His blade pierced her cheek, but she took it without batting an eyelash or grimacing. She knew he would not kill her; that would mean he would die as well and go back to the plane he came from. If he were here, surely he was not ready to turn in so quickly. The cut on her cheek bled lightly, but she would heal it in time. Why regenerate so quickly or rush to throw some herbs on it when she had nothing to fear?
“Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you,” she began sincerely in regards to his mention of her having more fun and him wishing to fight. “I don’t fight unless it’s a necessity. And besides, I won’t have reason to fight anymore; I have you with me~” Inglisse continued with a lighthearted chuckle, turning around to face him, once again meeting his sapphire orbs with her golden hazel ones. She took a few steps closer, casually closing the distance while retaining her calm grin. “You’d do good knowing that I hardly care about your words for me, nor your opinion. Just like you want me to earn your respect, the feeling is mutual,” she spoke eloquently, once more with no malice or cockiness.
He begged the question on why she had summoned him, which was indeed a good question. She partly wondered it herself. She really was in no need for protection, nor did she wish to fight anyone or wage wars. Inglisse was a curious individual who wanted to know more about the odd world she lived in. The atranochs were a subject of interest for the young blonde, who wanted to know more about them and their plane of existence to further a future goal. A righteous goal. “What is the right answer, then? Such open-ended questions with a right or wrong answer like that are a bother, their subjectivity rather annoying, to say the least,” she stated matter of factly, stopping right in front of him, her smile unflinching and her cheek still bleeding.

Much to his annoyance, she very simply told him that she didn't care much for fighting at all unless it was a necessity. That she avoided it for the most part. And now she would have him to fight all her battles for her. He scoffed. "Yeah right, like I'm going to fight on your behalf at this rate. We all gotta do things we don't enjoy sweetheart~" From what he was seeing, her talent had better be powerful. Otherwise he really was going to do all the work. While he enjoyed combat, he had quickly found it was more enjoyable when you worked perfectly with your partner... But if his partner was going to be a pathetic dilettante then he wouldn't bother. However when she chuckled and turned around, he found that the cut didn't really make things any better... Damn.
When he heard her speak again however, there was something else in what she said... Not caring about the words he used against her, which was obviously his insults, but also not caring about his opinion.. Was she referring to his cocky attitude, or was she saying she wouldn't care what his counsel was in the midst of chaos? And if it were the latter, was she really that stupid? Or... Was it perhaps, something else entirely? Her last words brought him back to reality however and a long unbroken smirk appeared on his face, his eyes giving off a sly yet knowing look. "Oh I see, trying to beat me at my own game are we? Sorry Missy! But I won't take you seriously until you prove to me that you aren't pathetic." This woman was going to be a handful.. Namely because he wasn't comfortable around her, what with her being a girl. And the second because of this 'I'm your superior' mentality she had going. She had this whole thing mixed up: If they were doing this, they'd do it as partners. Not as master and servant. He hoped she'd see that soon enough, and that she wasn't some stuck up, noble overlord individual.
When she asked for clarification on his question he gave her a look that said he wasn't buying it. "Seriously? Look, if we're gonna do this at least do a good job at lying. It's really annoying when you people pretend you're good at something when you aren't." He stuck the blade of his sword into the ground and placed his arm on the pommel. "Of course just to make sure you can't claim you aren't lying, you are in fact trying to tell me what your answer needs to be. By doing so you can easily just say said answer without meaning it. In addition to this, you're trying to jump around the answer until you have the answer. This is a form of manipulation, which is a sub category of lying, as you are using deceptive means to get what you want. This does not work on me. Now then student, would you like me to repeat the lesson?"

The girl blinked at his first words, fairly amused. He wanted her to fight? Was that the only thing going on in his mind; brawn over brains? He certainly did try to act intelligent, but at this point the air of ego was beginning to grow old, as if he were hiding something and using the stream of insults to do just that. If he did not want to partner with her, why did he not say it already? He did not seem the type to be attempting to ‘help’ her be someone he would partner with either. So, what were the insults for at this rate? The gentle smile never faltered as he continued. “If you believe fighting or raw strength is the only way to not be pathetic, I’m afraid you’ll be sorely disappointed. I fight when there is a reason to, nothing more, nothing less,” she explained politely, with a small ounce of humility. Brute strength was not the only way to be considered a strong individual. She did not see him as a servant, nor herself as a master. For now they were equals and he was a subject of interest of interest for her.
“I’d say the feeling is mutual, but honestly, I don’t understand what isn’t pathetic in your eyes. You come into this world throwing around insults, but why? Because I wasn’t the summoner you expected? Is it because I’m a girl? Because I’m young? Because you felt I wasn’t a fighter? Or is that how you treat everyone, regardless of who they are?” the blonde asked softly, not frowning or flinching once. “You don’t know me, so why don’t you keep the lectures yourself?”
Her words were once again polite, though matter of fact. They displayed no irritation, only a sense of logic. Even if she refused to fight, she knew that her intelligence could match brawn and raw strength. Would he recognize that? Only if he were not some dim individual. She had to commend him on his observations, however. “Not a lie, but an opinion. Any answer I give you wouldn’t matter. You could easily choose what you wanted to regardless of the response. See why I think such questions are bothersome?” she answered sincerely, flashing that calm smile once more. It would come down to him choosing to stay with her or not regardless of the many answers to his question. He already did not like her for some reason; that much was obvious. Now she wanted to know why.

Oras took the silence as a moment to examine his blade a bit more closely, just to make sure it was exactly like it was on his first time here. Smiling, it was in fact exactly that. He swung it around a few times before sheathing the blade. When blade was fully sheathed, a bit of frost and cold air was pushed out from inside the sheath. He always liked the flare, but it did remind him to cool the air down a bit. The temperature would immediately drop until it was a nice sixty degrees. He found that was usually the right medium for most beings in this material realm. He then heard her speak and turned to look at her. After hearing what she said he spoke. "Of course that's it! I love big dumb muscular beasts who only win out of sheer power! In fact, last time I was here I was married to a rhinoceros! Of course that's not all there is to it, genius." He sighed, clearly annoyed that he had to explain this to her. Or perhaps this was just her getting him to tell her after all.
She continued, telling her that she wanted to say the feeling was mutual, but that she wasn't sure what he saw as pathetic. That she was confused as to why he was throwing around insults when he was just summoned into this world. She then asked why that was and began to list off different possible reasons he could be insulting her. Was it because she wasn't the summoner he was expecting? It was more like hoping for. Was it because she was a girl?.. Partially but it was not at all the reason she was expecting. And he would not be saying exactly why. Because she was young? If she were a preteen then that would have been an issue yes. Because she wasn't a fighter? That was a downer for certain, as he wanted someone he could spar with, as well as someone who could get him some action when things slowed down. She then asked if it was just how he treated everyone? A smug grin held on his face as he responded. "My dear, sweet summoner~ I treat you the same way I treat everyone who deserves a talk down. I'm just waiting for you to prove me wrong. Maybe then we can move on." He walked around, swirling his finger in the air, a trail of frost hanging for a second before descending downward. "Why should I treat others as if they were my equal until they've shown me that they are? I don't waste time with noobs miss English." When she told him to keep his lectures to himself he made an ice coin, flipped it into the air, spun around on his heel and caught the coin. "Can't. It's my gift to the world~"
She spoke yet again, stating that she was not telling a lie, only an opinion. How his answer was open ended, meaning he could just make up what he believed to be pathetic or not. He was going to reply when she flashed that smile at him and he in turn, started to walk again, chuckling as he looked at the frost he spread when walking across the grass. "Ha ha! Well now, pretty good with words. If I did that, then I myself would be pathetic. Cheating my way through things by using fearful techniques. Not even deception at that point just stupidity... Alright here's the counter agreement." He turned to look her in the eyes. "I tell you what you must prove to me, and you get to put up with it until I'm satisfied. That's agreeable don't you think? You know what to shoot for, and I get my time to determine if you're just making up an answer or faking it. Though from what I've heard so far, I doubt you won't try cheating." If she agreed to the terms he'd continue. "It's really simple. Don't be a moron, and don't be easily beatable. If you can prove you are an intelligent and wise individual, and if you can prove that you can hold your own and even beat strong opponents without me. Then I'll be willing to take that next step and work as partners."

The girl listened quietly and patiently to his further blabbering about strength. At least she had drawn out that he was not fully obsessed with raw strength, but he appeared to have little regard for wit overall. He had some, surely, but at least not enough to match someone else. It was common sense in all cultures to be polite upon greeting someone; unless all atranochs were like this, she considered him a little less than intelligent. Intelligence was understood in the same way in almost every culture. Scientifically speaking, it was an individual's’ ability to adapt and apply skills and knowledge to situations. Naturally, there was more to it, but from what Inglisse understood off the bat, this man was a fool for thinking that his behavior could get him anywhere.
“Why do I deserve a talk-down?” she asked innocently, still quietly pressing for answers. He was such an interesting and egotistical individual. Did he automatically assume he was better than the one who summoned him? Did all atranochs assume they were of higher status than the one who anchored them to reality? What odd individuals. At his further explanation on not treating others like equals, the girl only shrugged. If that was the case, he would get what he gave. She remained silent, allowing him to finish his speech before applying her own thoughts to the situation. For the sake of curiosity, she gave a nod for him to continue with his terms, despite his condescending attitude. She was curious, after all, but she had not yet agreed to anything. Blood still trickling down her cheek, Inglisse only chuckled as when he finished. “You sure think you’re irreplaceable and special, don’t you?” she asked steadily in a lighthearted giggle, without any hint of ego nor mirror of his attitude. “You needlessly put yourself on a pedestal above me and others. What reason do I have to prove myself to you, besides having you cooperate as an actual partner? I don’t need you. I won't die without you. It’s just one of those ‘would be nice’ things, I guess you could say. Would me proving myself to you just make you feel happier or boost your ego a little further? I do wonder.”
The grinning blonde paused for a moment, walking towards him again across the crunchy frost on the ground. “I know you atranochs have to be willing to come to this world in order for a summoning to be successful. You don’t seem to be very happy here with me, though, so I suppose we could find some way to send you back home and break the bridge. Perhaps this was all a mix-up. I could summon some other atranoch, hopefully one who has at least an ounce of decency,” she said with a smile, arms up in a shrug while her hazel eyes remained fixed boldly on the snowy-haired man. “What do you think~? I am sorry I had inconvenienced you with a summoning you did not want.”

His summoner certainly seemed like she was an interesting one. Definitely patient as she listened to him speak. Unfortunately for him he couldn't determine what she was thinking. Which was really frustrating because the ability to read minds might help him with his personal issue. There was a lot he had to work on now that he was here. Part of that was creating a sort of deal between them so that he didn't have to worry about here anymore. While she didn't deem him intelligent because he wasn't being polite, that was simply a choice he made for personal reasons. She would soon see that he was in fact more than intelligent. It's just that he didn't care what people lower than him thought, and in fact was annoyed when they believed they were entitled an opinion. Why? Because it wasn't fair unless they had a say? In his mind no one cares what an idiot has to say. They'll only say something that drops the IQ of the room. He'd rather speak with people who were intelligent and knew what they were talking about than to hear people attempting to help despite not understanding anything.
When she asked him why she in particular needed a talk down, speaking in a rather innocent sounding voice, he mentally shrugged it off and replied immediately. "You in particular, I don't think need one. You aren't a moron, though I am waiting to see and hear true intelligence and wisdom." He folded his arms across his chest as he continued. "Like I said, I treated you like I treat everyone else. I don't care for the opinions of sheep being led blindly. I also don't listen to the opinion of children playing champion. I listen to the real deal. People who lead themselves. People who can take on challenges themselves. I don't want to hear what an unintelligent or inexperienced person has to say. So I prefer to see if my summoner is one of those people. From what I can tell you aren't that low. Though I'd like to see some proof that you aren't from the average crop either."
When she listened to his deal and nodded, he hesitated, knowing she didn't necessarily agree to anything. Just gave him the ok to continue. When he told her what his conditions were she gave off a pure and innocent giggle, which made this rather hard for Oras. He almost had to turn around again. He listened to her words, and heard her essentially challenge his words. Demanding to know what reason she had to prove herself to him. She continued to explain that she herself didn't need him at all. That she wouldn't die without him and that he was just a 'would be nice' thing for her. She finished by asking if proving herself to him would be an ego boost or something. He almost glared at her but decided to take a different approach. He laughed. "Nope! I don't need an ego boost from you. If that's all I sought I could talk to any random civilian and show them just how stupid they are. Though you do have a big claim by stating you don't need help to survive. I can't see any lies in your eyes however, so I'm more interested in the 'how' than 'can you' at this point."
When she spoke again this time he paid real attention, though he didn't show it on the outside. When she finished he mentally cursed knowing that she was calling his bluff at this point. He'd see if he could get out of this first. He grinned with narrow eyes. "You think I'm easily replaced do you?" He began to walk around the area, spreading frost where he went. "All atranoch's are based on an element from your world. Flame and Magma. Aqua and Glacier. Stone and Steel. We can only use our own element however, not another one. Therefore, most atranoch's are limited through this. Except, for me." He spun on his heels to look at her once again. He created some ice that hovered above his hands. "I can make and control any ordinary ice, yes. But:" He raised his left hand and created a new type of ice. This one was red and glowed. Instantly the grass at his feet caught fire and Inglisse would feel intense heat the instant it was created. Just as soon as he created it he destroyed it and sent a blast of cold out to cool the entire area down and put out the fire. "During my travels, I've discovered a way to get around that little limitation. None of the other atranoch's have discovered this little secret. Not yet of course. But by the time they do you'll be dead and gone." He walked over and picked up her book, pushing it against her with a smirk on his face. "I could share these secrets with you at some point of course. But if we don't reach an agreement, you'll never know."

Ah, the one and only nice thing he had ever said about her-- that she was not a moron. Well, at least she had proven that much. Hopefully it applied with his little ‘test’ instructions-- “don’t be a moron”. He wanted to hear true intelligence and wisdom, but that rarely came right away. If he stuck around long enough, he would more than likely see it. He yet again had something nicer to say, that she was not unintelligent or inexperienced. Really, it still seemed that he was more of those two. If he treated everybody lower than him, when he finally did find whether or not someone was intelligent and experienced, they most likely would have forged a lower opinion of him and would not want to associate with him. Really, it was a lack of wisdom and common sense on his part, but if other atranochs tolerated him, he likely had yet to really relearn that around people again. Rudeness was rarely rewarded in their society.
Ha, there it was. He had fallen for it. The blonde maintained her calm grin as he slowly came to accept her words and then began to walk once more, frost forming over the shaded blades of grass. She held eye contact with him, not showing much reaction as he created a new kind of ice. Instead of talking down to her as if she had to prove herself, he was now trying to sell his own worth of being the one summoned to her side, while taking the opportunity to boast. Naturally, he would not know of her tactic. She was subtle, knowing the psychological tact needed to see a fitting response. One could hardly call it true manipulation as much as being well versed in the science of the mind. He created a hot ice, which she could only identify as methane clathrate or some other type of natural or magical ice. It was somewhat impressive, definitely not out of range for an ice user, but one few ice users bothered to ever learn. “Strength isn’t measured by little flavorful ‘extras’ of one who uses a Talent. You know this. It’s measured by efficiency. While that certainly makes you versatile in combat, I’m sure another atranoch could do just as well in combat or at other tasks within their own capabilities. Unless, of course, you’re saying you’re the strongest atranoch to ever exist, which I suppose could explain your ego,” she said with a lighthearted chuckle, ending with a small joking quip.
He brought her book back to her and pressed it against her. Gingerly, she took the book in her hands, hazel eyes still fixed on his own sapphire orbs, the confident yet calm grin never leaving her face. He offered her the secrets of his use of versatile elements, likely appealing to what he observed that she liked. While she adored knowledge and learning, the cost outweighed the benefit when it came to agreeing to his fairly pathetic terms. She still had nothing to prove to him, even for a tiny dose of extra knowledge. Besides, had he not already implied she was not pathetic without realizing it? “I’ll pass. If you really want to go home, I’m sure we could figure something out. Unless you want to stay for some reason, but it seems to me you aren’t quite happy to be here. Not a lot of combat or wars for you to fight in, no sparring partner as your summoner, and a time of relative peace. Really, what reason have you to be here with me, as my partner? You seem very disappointed, so what’s keeping you here?” she asked sincerely, a warm and understanding smile on her face. The blood on the cut on her cheek had finally clotted a little. She would have to properly clean it up a little later.

Once again he was inwardly enraged that she was calling his bluff. If it had been any other subject and/or topic then he could easily blow this off. However she was calling the one bluff he just couldn't hold any water for. The fact that he had a reason to be in this world, and that he had to cooperate with her no matter what. Otherwise she could kick him out and save her the hassle of handling him. He hated it, but he was going to have to put up with her. Why couldn't things just be like the last time? Who knows how long he would have to put up with her before she would just accept his personality? Was it because she was a girl? He never understood the female sex from the start, but was this really a difference between men and women? Even after a full human lifetime he didn't get them. Of course, one way or another it didn't matter. In the end he still didn't have a choice. Begrudgingly he'd address her one step at a time.
"Variety is only a part of what makes one strong, you got that right. It's how you utilize it to your advantage that is the main strength in it. However what I do has power behind it as well as variety. Don't underestimate it nor me." he then continued. "As for the strongest Atranoch, not the strongest in raw power. We all vary in strengths and weaknesses. However there aren't many atranoch's that are interested much in this world itself. They want to know more about the people and their lifestyles. I like to learn everything about how the human mind works and reacts, as well as what makes this world what it is. Which of course is how I managed to break the limitation of only being able to control ice. My brethren don't usually study such things. Of course I'm not the only one, but it's rare to encounter people like myself." This was in fact true. Most atranoch, would defend their summoners, but unlike Oras they preferred to learn the culture of the world more so than specific aspects. Instead of focusing specifically on any one subject (combat, art, history, etc.) they spread themselves over the culture itself. Immersing themselves in the human world as if they themselves were humans. Oras was different, and while he wasn't the only one it was rare to encounter another.
And now... The hard part.
He frowned and rolled his eyes up to the sky. "Ugh, fine! Gosh. Yes there's something I need to do on this world. You want me to treat you like an equal, I'll, try. But you can't get me to treat every person in this world similarly. I treat everyone else however I want. Know why? Cause someone has to tell them what they are." He turned to look her in the eyes, his eye lids lowered and a half annoyed half bored look on his face. "Happy princess?" He walked a little ways away, swinging his sword which froze all plant life underneath it frozen solid as he walked. "Peace.. More like pressure building up in a bottle about to explode. Calm before the storm would be most accurate.." He thrust his blade into the tree dead center, causing frost to spread across the damaged section, but not too far from it. He turned to look at her again.
"You still need to answer my question. Why did you summon me? And no dodging the question anymore."

More bragging, but once again in defense of himself. Inglisse certainly enjoyed how she had pushed him out of the offensive and into the defensive state of mind. At least from what he mentioned, they had shared interests. She loved learning about the human mind and the little details. While she wanted to learn lots about the world, she certainly did not spread herself thin. Doing so was foolish. He mentioned not to underestimate him, which was harder for the blonde to do. It was much more fun to underestimate and be pleasantly surprised than possibly overestimate and be disappointed.
And finally, it seemed he had given in. She had broken him into finally caving without breaking a sweat, but likely leaving him mentally and potentially emotionally exhausted. Her grin widened as he said he would finally treat her as an equal. It was certainly good to hear. He said he would not treat others as equals, which though socially foolish and annoying, she could still accept. Most people were generally unintelligent and sometimes did need to be called out, even if more often than not it only made a fool out of the one doing it. Well, that would be his burden to bear. “Quite,” she responded simply upon being asked if she was happy. It was all fine by her. The cut on her cheek had finally stopped bleeding, but would need to still be properly cleansed and treated to avoid a scar. While her body likely would not allow infection, scarring was always an unfortunate possibility.
He walked away, freezing the life on the ground with his sword and using the cold blade to ice over some poor tree. He mentioned something about peace only being the calm before the storm, which was a concept Inglisse could get behind. The peace in their land was especially fragile, but luckily, the academy was quite quiet and mellow for the most part. He finally begged the question again. Well, it was time to perhaps spill it. He seemed resolved to be her partner either way, having a goal in Skiagis and all, so at this point it was about curiosity. Yes, he had earned a response from her. She walked towards him again, calm and confident smile still on her face. “Curiosity’s sake,” she answered simply, in a hushed but bold tone, not bothering to go into details until he answered more of her own questions, or at least gave his full name. She was a researcher, specifically on the topic of Unknowns and sometimes species. Atranochs had become a subject of interest for her, along with the existence of their home plane. What better way to learn about them than to summon one herself?
