welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The Glacier Atronach walked through the halls of the Academy towards the courtyard. His first attempt had failed at a reaction of any sort. Save for a dog and phoenix hybrid. While that was fun to mess with her, he'd rather have the adrenaline of combat, and learn people through the blade. Oras had gone through a tour not long ago, and now he was going to perform a tour of his own. He ensured he chose the busiest time of the entire day. No one was in class. Even the teachers had some time off. There were many people in the courtyard as he approached. An excited grin formed on his lips. Good. He wondered if his summoner would arrive too. She seemed interested in taking notes on him... Well if that were the case he'd ensure she saw how powerful and tenacious he could be!
Oras stepped into the center. Then walked a bit further past that clearing and ran at the water fountain. He leaped and just as his foot touched it, the water froze with an instant. Since it was winter, his power and strength increased. He was more invigorated than ever. He pushed himself up to the top of the frozen water with ease before turning around and letting out a blast of energy that would ripple across the courtyard. Everyone would feel a blast of chill but nothing harmful. Just something to get their attention.
"Alright everyone! If you don't know me my name is Oras! I've got some spare time so I'm choosing to use it!" He called out to them with a smirk on his face. "I don't have a sparring partner just yet, and I won't partner up with a weakling or moron. So I'm issuing a challenge! A duel to everyone here! I wanna see which ones among you are actually worth my time!" He drew his sword with a grin. "I've never heard of this school, or any of you until my arrival here a few days ago so show me how strong you all are!" Oras then leaped forward, flipping once in mid air, flourished his sword, and landed with ease, his sword held out towards the crowd. "Student, Teacher, Visitor, I don't give a crap who you are or what you call yourself. I'm here for a good fight!"

Anarra Seren walked through the courtyard, taking in the scenery. The air was cold, as winter was upon them, which meant that usually she would be sleeping; dormant as nearly all plants were this time of year. But she'd stepped out of her dorm room to take in the sights. She'd heard that the school had yearly festivities during the winter, and she'd never seen such things, so she was curious about the tradition. The clothes she was wearing, a long sleeved shirt, pants, boots, and a scarf, were enough to keep her somewhat warm. But she still shivered; she would need to buy a coat sometime later.
There were so many things she was learning here, and she'd only been here for a day. Things like blinking, and holding objects with her hands, was something she was trying to get used to. The concept of money was one she knew about, but she'd never owned any money before. She didn't necessarily have to do any of those things when she was living in her forest home. It wasn't like she had hands or eyelids in her normal form as a deer...
As she made her way across the courtyard, she heard a familiar voice, and turned her head in the direction the voice was coming from. Oras? She thought. Indeed, the Atronach was standing in the middle of the courtyard, calling out a challenge to everyone in the vicinity. A challenge to duel him.
It'd been some time since she last dueled anyone. Perhaps this would warm her up, and wake her up a little as well. And it would be interesting to see just how expertly of a fighter he was.
Stepping forwards, she shed the human form she was using, transforming back into her normal deer-like one. "Hello, Oras Auro." She greeted him, dipping her head. "I heard you were issuing a challenge. May I be your first opponent?"

Oras waited for a reply from everyone. They had better not leave or ignore him. Otherwise he'd try harder to provoke a duel. He didn't get summoned across from his own realm into this one just to have a boring time in an Academy learning everything a second time. He came for adventure, for excitement. He came here to enjoy himself. And to fulfill a promise he had made all those years ago. And yet, his thoughts were brought back to what Inglisse, his current summoner, had told him. How they were in a world of peace. She left a seed of hope that there were people who might duel him, but it was now time to test those words. To see if she spoke lies to him, or if she was actually telling the truth. He didn't fully trust his summoner, and would instead test and challenge everything she said and did.
Suddenly someone spoke up. Her voice however, was familiar. He saw a woman walk up, changing into a deer like form. He looked at her plant body, her skull exposed head, and the ethereal flames licking off of her antlers and back. Oras grinned and chuckled when he saw her. When he heard that she did in fact wish to accept his challenge his grin widened. He sent the blade into the cracks between the stone of the courtyard as he rested his hands on the pommel. "Ha! I'm glad someone decided to step forward. Well then, besides no killing what rules do you want to put down? When would you like to end the duel? Shall we use powers or swords? Or perhaps you'd like to utilize martial arts? Though seeing as how you don't want to use hands, I'm going to assume it's the first."

"Powers would be preferable. I know nothing of sword wielding or martial arts." Anarra replied, shaking her head. "We stop when one of us says "I yield"."
Truth be told, she was getting a little excited about this. She would test to see just how good Oras was, and she would see how she herself fared against an opponent who wielded ice, one of her biggest weaknesses. That excitement would be shown slightly in her voice, and in the way she shifted from hoof to hoof. Despite the cold, she was ready to fight.
"Are you ready?"

When she replied she did in fact confirm that she would like to fight via powers rather than blades or melee combat. She then told him that the only rule she'd add would be to stop when one of them yielded. Oras grinned, his eyes flashing with excitement. "You should be asking yourself that!" he called as he pulled his sword out and slid it across the ground. He froze the path ahead of time so he could do this, and the blade was stopped by the sheath by the wall. He froze them both, sealing it to the wall to keep anyone from getting to it. "I'm ready at any time!" He'd start by cooling the air of the area down quickly. Because she was made of plants, this would slow her down greatly. Next, he lashed his arms downward to his sides, and instantly massive pikes of ice would emerge from the ground. Not shooting out, but acting like spears thrusting from the very ground towards her.
He began to rush towards her. A frozen aura around his hands, wrists and forearms.

Teachers had time offs, and so did the the school nurse. While the Cernun would usually spend it with her best friend, said best friend was busy preparing for the next class. Beatrice sighed. There was not much the Cernun could do to contribute so here the nurse was, alone and walking quietly.
At least till she heard someone announcing a challenge. The idea of sparring is nothing new. Some races, including her own, participate in simple rule grounded fights in order to strengthen whatever their goal is. However the challenge was just to see if anyone can fight the boastful young man. Beatrice did not think anyone would accept, but she was proven wrong. With a slight sigh, she gets a closer view. Who knows what would happen, since they did not even bother to use training weaponry.

Anarra flared the flames on her antlers and back, warming the immediate area around her enough to be able to move almost as fast as she could normally. She would be slightly slower than usual, but it would be fast enough for her to act. Stomping a hoof on the ground, she would raise pillars of stone of her own to shatter the ice threatening to stab her.
As Oras shot at her, she would dance sideways to avoid being touched, and would raise walls of hardened earth in order to try and trap the Atronach inside. She wondered if his ice powers could freeze soil and stone as well as water. That would be interesting to see.

Oras watched as she raised the earth to shatter his spears of ice. He could have used a different form of course, but he wanted to keep as many of his aces a secret as possible. So instead of simply making his ice harder to break, or hot enough to melt the stone. He instead let it go. Oras missed her, narrowing his eyes as he noticed that her flames had a heat to them. She was keeping herself warm enough to move without being hindered. And she was smart enough to avoid being touched. Good. If she did, he would have drained her of her speed, taking it for himself. She tried to trap him by creating stone walls. Really? This again? He didn't use form seven ice this time. Instead he simply touched the wall, freezing all of it solid inside and out. The stone expanding as it froze, making it more fragile, and landing a powerful strike reducing it to shards.
Oras chuckled as he held his hand out and every shard of ice created from the frozen earth was sent flying towards her. At the same time he charged at her yet again with the ice. The entire time he focused on freezing the air further and further.

So he can freeze stone.... interesting. Anarra thought as she watched the walls she'd created shatter like glass.
And started in surprise as the now icy shards of earth came flying back at her. Hurriedly throwing up yet another wall of stone to block the incoming projectiles, she then caused the earth around Oras' feet to turn into quicksand, which would cause him to sink into the ground. If he was caught in it, she would harden the ground back up again, immobilizing his feet. She would then move on the offensive, launching rocks big enough to be small boulders at him.

He watched as she summoned a wall of stone to block the barrage of shards. As she did that he felt the ground become sand beneath him. No- Quicksand. This was easy to escape however. He generated ice from his hands, creating pillars that shot down towards the solid ground. When they did they kept growing, forcing him out and into the air. As he came out, he sent three massive icicles the size of people into the stone wall. They didn't fly through, getting stuck half way. But the idea was to keep her attention there and not up. As he flew over the wall, his eyes would flash and he would descend. When he landed, if she had somehow figured him out and dodged, his foot would create bursts of icicles all over the entire ground. Before she could try and shatter them he'd launch them all from their resting area, causing the entire air to be filled with projectiles that would shoot into the air and then come right back down.
While they did so, he would be rushing towards her, leaping to the sides and evading any attack or wall she attempted to make. If she tried the quicksand trick again he'd simply jump over it.

Anarra quickly dissolved the wall when the ice pillars struck it, crumbling it to fine dirt and pebbles once more. She quickly noticed that he was nowhere on the ground, and looked up to see that he was in the air instead. Ahh, a surprise tactic. A shame for him that it did not work. She thought as she dodged the Atronach's attack, swiftly sidestepping him.
When the ice came crashing down she shrunk herself down to 4 ft from her normal 20 ft in the blink of an eye, attempting to make herself a smaller target, and created an overhang of stone which provided her cover from the raining ice shards. One of the shards struck her side before she'd finished making her shelter, however, and she jolted in pain as the severe cold shot through her. The flames on her back flared, melting the ice, but the coldness stopped her movement for a few moments as she struggled to think about anything other than the pain.
Turning her gaze onto Oras, she would launch sand into the air, making the air difficult to see through. And using the cover provided by it, she would move around the Atronach and launch a ferocious barrage of pillars at him as he rushed towards her, aiming to hit him. Her movements would be noticeably slower due to the injury she gained, which affected her movement. She was not going to let him near her, not when she knew he could easily freeze anything he touched.

Watching his icicle hit it's mark he smirked. He could have frozen her then and there, but he decided against it. He had plenty of energy so he could keep going a while. He wasn't going all out yet after all. And yet he was trying to keep his secrets hidden for as long as he possibly could. When she started making pillars to strike him he simply jumped between, on and around them, moving closer to her. From what he could tell she had changed her size to something smaller but that was no matter. He began taking short cuts, moving in ways that would allow him to catch up despite them being relatively the same speed. If there was a pillar crossing that was too narrow for him to cross, he'd just shatter into crystals, letting the momentum carry him under and around them, then reformed on the other side.
As he did this, he would randomly spawn things to either slow her down, cut her escapes off, or trap her. Whether they were ice mines (patches of ice that sent icicles in every direction if stepped on, or if someone moved over them). Giant spikes, ice walls, ice cages. He was completely random. All the while he did all he could to get closer. She hadn't been able to land a blow on him just yet. And as long as he kept avoiding these pillars, he should be good.

The courtyard, by all definitions, is pleasant. Was pleasant. Esialeth had been perfectly content to sit in the shade of the huge tree that all courtyards seemed to have and read sweet novels until the sun set or she ran out of books; of course, she usually ended up running out of books, as it was unseemly to carry around ten novels and beacuse her mind absorbed plots like very expensive stationery absorbed accidental drops of dark-roast coffee.
Regardless. She was planning to read some new novels, lulled to peace by the hubbub of nearby conversations, when a gratingly resonant voice rang across the courtyard. She sighed, a bone-deep exhale that made her head hurt and her joints ache with phantom pain. She had avoided his presence as best she could, but the realization that he had been summoned by her roommate was enough to convince her that something had to be done. He couldn't act like a child forever, could he...?
She got up, feeling a gust of ice-cold wind blow her hair back. She silently thanked herself for leaving her open-back sweater in her room and began deliberately walking towards the now fighting people. "Excuse me," she said, her voice a clear alto.
No response.
"Excuse me," she said, louder this time. The pair continued to fight. She sighed again.
No choice, then. She stepped into the fray, ice and stone and magical fire whipping around her, catching on her shirt-sleeves. She paid them no mind, and indeed, she did not spill even a drop of blood, even as she took the brunt of the crossfire. At a lull in their fight, she struck, not with metal or magic, but with words, colder than his ice and heavier than her stone. "Excuse me. It may interest you all to know that there are training grounds for your exact purpose. It would probably be more appropriate to continue your fight there, rather than risk disturbing others' days. And," she said, glancing at the parts of her favorite bench now littered on the grass, "and the architecture. Or what's left of it." She smiled, saccharine-sweet and utterly fake, in a way that she knew would make her amber-gold eyes shine.
"I would be happy to show you the way." She wouldn't be, but she betrayed none of her emotions except sympathy for the girl, who looked quite cold.

Anarra, who'd been about to send a swarm of plants meant to entangle the Atronach and keep him pinned to the ground, suddenly froze upon seeing the woman appear. She turned her attention towards her, wondering how long she'd been there. The woman didn't seem to be injured, though the hybrid knew if she stood there in the middle of the fight there was a chance she might be. Warily eyeing Oras, not knowing if the Atronach would attack since she hadn't called 'Yield' yet, she carefully made her way towards her, avoiding any surprises Oras may have laid out for her.
She came to a stop in front of the woman, staying at 4ft tall instead of her normal 20ft in order to better look her in the eyes. She found that humans were normally more friendly to her if she was a smaller size. And she stomped a hoof on the ground, ignoring the pain the action caused, reverting the ground of the courtyard back to the way it'd been before.
"I apologize. I am new here, and have only been here a day. Perhaps someone," She cast a glance at Oras before looking back at the woman, "should have informed me there was a specific place for duels before issuing the challenge...."

Oras would also cease his actions, annoyed that someone interrupted. He created a frozen slide and slid down, hands in his pockets. A smirk fresh on his face. "And interrupt classes? I hardly think so. I rarely have the free time, so I needed as many people to be informed as possible. Courtyard has the most people in the area and so it was the best place for an announcement. And besides," he said glancing at the temporary damage. "We both know there are talents in the area that can easily reverse the damage. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if someone could reverse time." He then chuckled as he looked at the woman with no fear in his eyes. "But if you want an apology from me then sure, I'm sorry for messing up your courtyard. Want me to change locations? Either make me, or you help me find a few contenders~."
Oras had finally found people he could challenge outright. He wasn't about to lose this audience. He wanted.. No, more like he needed to test these people's fighting skills. He wanted to see how they reacted, struck, defended, avoided, strategized. It spoke volumes about an individual. He snapped his fingers and all the ice he created vanished without a trace. "Of course, if you have any kind of leeway. Maybe you could help me find more than one to three people who would give me a duel. Unless you're all just a bunch of pansies."
