welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Earth, air, water. Fire. All powerful elements in their own right. Fire had the potential to be the most powerful, but if one knew how to snuff it out, or surround it with empty air, or choke it into submission, well...
Then it becomes the weakest.
She refused to fuel his fire, ignoring him in favor of the girl. Shrugging off her winter cloak, Esialeth held it out between them. "Are you quite all right? You seem cold. Take this for now, will you?"
Esialeth felt the winter air hit her immediately, but her long, stately dress prevented the cold from seeping further into her skin. "Anyway, I saw you fight. Quite a show there." Beat. "I must say I'm quite taken with your magic. It's an Earth sect, no? Mine is, too." She cracked her first genuine smile, honey-sweet and open. "Oh, pardon me. We haven't been introduced yet. I'm Esialeth Rose, although some people call me Essie." She tilted her head. "Call me what you wish. It's up to you."

While Anarra would've liked to stay in her natural form, she knew that as a human she would be warmer. And warmth was what she needed right now; and sleep. Lots of sleep. She should've gone dormant by now, conserving her energy. Perhaps it'd been foolish of her to partake in Oras's challenge. But at least she'd had fun while the fight had continued.
Changing herself back into her human form, she looked at the woman with a blank expression on her face, and blinked. Her face was normally a skull; expressing emotions and using facial muscles was something she was unused to. She didn't move to take the coat. "Are you sure you will not need it?" She knew that humans needed to keep warm, just like plants did. And the clothes the woman was wearing didn't seem thick enough to keep her warm.
At seeing the other smile, she tried her best to do the same. Though, judging from some of the crowd, it probably didn't look like a smile. So she made her face expressionless once again. "You can control earth as well?" This was certainly interesting. She was learning new things every day, and she hadn't even been here that long. "I am Anarra Seren, but you can call me Anarra. It is nice to meet you Esialeth."

Earth magic was strong and sturdy, a firm believer of whatever they uphold upon their earthly surface, and hold deeper in their hearts. That was what Beatrice remembered when she first tried Earth magic. The firm grasp of earth and the rock steady uses made Earth magic a very hard element for people who preferred a more natural flowing magic like air or water. However a certain friend of hers makes the idea of natural flowing Earth magic seem like a breeze. Ice magic was a sort of firm between water and earth. It makes the rigidness of the earth while maintaining the natural fluidity of water, it however like water is frail and once broken is not easily mended. Elemental magic flowed through their veins like blood in the body, however magic is a powerful tool and a scarier responsibility. Having it is a feat itself, but mastering its uses beyond combat was the real challenge. While the nurse was happy to watch the battle go on, she had bigger fish to fry. The fight was getting too hectic for common ground.
However her intervention was simply taken over by another student. A flick of her hair and her strands of hair hair detached like wool from the spinning wheel, becoming a fine thread that mended nearby furniture to its pristine condition, and well the the boasting was getting to her. Calling the students pansies was practically the last straw.
However injuries to cure. As a nurse duty come first.
“Okay dear, school nurse here,” Beatrice knelt down and gently breathes into her hands, a gentle bubble of water appears and Beatrice with gentle movements moves the water over Anarra's body, cleaning any dirt and washing away anything nasty. The next part came in the form of dirt. However it was not the dirt Beatrice used. It was the tiny seeds among the dirt. Once those are out she applies them to the wounds, and watch the healing happen. “Leshens, easy to heal. Their natural affinity to the earth and its wonders make them particularly reactive to even the simplest of plants.”
Once that was done she gets up and looks towards the man challenging on common ground. “You there, Atranoch. Yes I recognize your kind snowman. If you really want a challenge face me. However since you have such confidence in your powers, I issue you a real challenge. Fight me without breaking anything around us. You cannot move them or protect them with whatever fancy snow spells you have. Don't bother with loopholes either.” Beatrice folds her doctor's coat and puts it aside. There was a height and size difference between her foe and herself. Not like it matters. The girl has seen Cernun uglier, beefier and stronger. Did not stop her from becoming the candidate for Druid.

Instead of answering Oras, or relying to him in any manner at all. The woman chose to ignore the Atranoch entirely and instead focus on speaking with Anarra. His grin changed to a smile as he thought for a second. So then. 'so then.. She was avoiding it altogether. He wondered if it was only because she was frustrated with him, or if the reason had been because she was able to identify what he was doing, and that playing his game would get her nowhere.. If it was the latter then she's being wise about this scenario.. Clever. Maybe I found someone intelligent after-' His thoughts came to a halt when he focused on her face for the first time. With his adrenaline rush he didn't realize this at first, but she was actually rather pretty. He had almost flushed red but he forced his body to cool down instantly, also cooling the air around him too.
Why did this have to happen to him? He thought. He hid his emotional state swiftly by smirking. "Well then, if you're not going to speak with me, I may as well continue my practices. Though I will admit.. I didn't take into account the collateral damage." It was then the nurse approached, and after she tended to Anarra's wounds, which Oras ensured were as minor as possible, she turned to him. He had a face of surprise when she revealed that she knew exactly what he was, but that surprise was quickly replaced with a grin. "Huh. So you know of my kind eh? I'm curious to see how much you know. I gotta admit, it's nice to see someone who knows what I am." After that she issued a challenge to him. Her additional rule being that they could not do any damage of any sort to the surrounding area. Oras' grin widened, his eyes revealing his excitement for combat. "I'll take that challenge. You're on! Also," he told her as he formed some snow in his hands. This snow glowing a little bit. "Just so we're clear that I'm not a total asshole, I can heal other people and I never intended to permanently maim anyone. It's a spar, not a death duel."
Oras walked over to where he slid his sword. He dissolved the ice with a wave of his hand before grabbing his sword. He then pulled out a bottle from the bag there and drank it, restoring all his previous energy so he was at full strength. He'd offer some to the nurse if she needed it after healing Anarra. If she didn't, he'd just stick it back in the bag and walk over to the center of the area. He'd take position and hold his sword out. Just his stance alone would show that he'd spent years training with a blade.. "I'm ready whenever you are dearie~"

Anarra blinked in surprise as the Cernun knew just how to heal her. It wasn’t every day that she met someone who knew what she was; or partly was. ”Thank you.” She said, dipping her head to the nurse. She gave a small sigh of relief as the pain quickly faded away, the seeds the nurse had used sprouting and mending her injury. The cold might just be cold to most beings, but to her it could be deadly. Being completely encased in ice was a foolproof way to kill her instantly.
As the Cernun issued a challenge to Oras, she turned and made her way to a bench, sitting down. For now, she was going to rest, and see how this unfolded. She glanced over to Esialeth, wondering if the woman would sit by her.

Esialeth was wholeheartedly attempting to ignore the...others, but as she heard the sound of cracking knuckles and felt in the aether yet another fight brewing, she immediately felt very old and decided to leave immediately. Spine straight and posture steady, she sighed (again) and followed the girl to the bench that she had so nicely repaired. The earth types are always the best, aren't they? Esialeth checked her handheld mirror. Yeah. Yeah, they are.
"I must insist that you take this," she said, offering Anarra the cloak again. "Don't worry about me, I'm quite used to the cold. You, on the other hand," she continued, sensing the girl's weak, fluctuating aether, "look like you're going to keel over if you get any colder."
Not taking no for an answer, she dropped the cloak around the smaller girl's shoulders and sat down with her. Leaning back, she looked at the treetops, the clouds, the pink-gold sky; anywhere but the impending fight, really. She was ever so sick of the man's harsh voice disturbing her peace. For whatever moronic reason, his summoner was her roommate, which meant that at some point, Inglisse; sweet, intelligent Inglisse; had looked at him and made the concious decision to let him stay. Kids these days were utterly insane, and she was beginning to doubt that Inglisse had much experience with the interpersonal. Esialeth could hardly get a moment's peace in her dormitory anymore—wait.
"Anarra," she said slowly, feeling her lips curl upward, "would you like to continue this conversation inside? I...left some cookies baking in Sage. They should be done by now. And," she shot a disdainful look at the fighting pair, "it's more...warm. And quiet. There."
And we can flee this dreadful scene, she didn't say. Esialeth prayed to all the gods that Anarra would get the hint and give her an excuse to disappear into thin air and reappear in the golden warmth of Sage's blissfully unused underground kitchen.

Catherine got bored with staying inside after class, so she took an impromptu trip outside to see what was going on. There was nothing good on television anyway. It was all reruns of soap operas, decade-old sitcoms, and police procedurals, all three of which had stayed well past their welcome. There were only so many episodes of Nights Of Our Youth that one could stomach before losing the will to continue watching.
Catherine walked outside and found a couple of students dueling. Nearby was another person, one wearing a robe. Catherine stood by and watched the action from afar. Hopefully this was not all a ploy to lure her out of hiding to abduct her. Suddenly the school nurse intervened and stopped the fight.
Catherine was just getting into the fight too. Oh well. She wondered how the nurse knew to come out here. What if she was a spy sent to monitor Catherine? The brunette would not be surprised.

Beatrice sizes up her opponent. Clearly he was trained, well trained. However the eagerness and confidence told the Cernun he could use more work. Flipping her golden locks, she looks around before going over to a tree and snapping a small branch of the tree before returning to the fight. Finally set on what she needed, Beatrice looks towards the girls watching at the bench.
"Look dear if you wanted to leave you would have already left the place and not even bother speaking," Beatrice smiled at Esialeth, it was probably best not to piss off the school nurse, before looking towards the Leshen. "And healing is nothing my dear, just like snowman over here." Beatrice did some stretches, branch still in hand. The Cernun could not care more for listening to the Atranoch. However at least she can teach the ice man a lesson straight from Cernun culture.
Maybe the earth users would be in awe with the move, maybe unimpressed. Most earth mages needed to do large movements, for the earth is heavy, strong and powerful. It took a strong mind to control something stronger. Rigid movement of Earth magic tends to be easily called out, and if someone be quicker, they still have to face a wall. Beatrice however was not an Earth mage, she was a Cernun. Earth was not her chosen Rite of Passage element, but it did not mean she did not practice and learn. Beatrice does a barely visible movement, a mere twitch of her foot as if getting into a more comfortable position. There was no sound, no warning of the earth below shifting. The earth below Oras would suddenly shoot up as a large pillar of rock and sendiment, moving at a force the Cernun knew would break any normal human's skeleton, but more than enough to send someone like an Atranoch flying through the air and who knows where, but definitely somewhere far.

He watched as the nurse went and pulled a tree branch off and walked back over. He was curious as to whether that was just to throw him off, if she could turn that into a potent weapon, or if she was just that confident. Which if she was, then this should be incredibly fun. However she didn't do anything. All she did was adjust her foo- Suddenly he was shattered. literally. The ground rose above him and shattered him into twenty chunks of ice that flew into the air. Insanely high, far above the clouds even. In fact, he was approaching the atmosphere. Oras forced his parts to pull back and fuse together again. His eyes wide having not expected that. And yet.. He chuckled and started laughing. When he started heating up he changed his body to form four ice. It would keep him cold a while, and keep the heat out. But it wouldn't last forever.
Soon he stopped ascending, and started to descend instead. Well now, this was interesting. How should he land he wondered. He could shift into his true form. Or sprout wings if he wanted to. He could create pillars of ice and use them to slow his descent... Nah he'd go with sprouting wings. He used his powers to create wings of ice, and slowly opened them up to slow his speed down. When he was close enough he opened them all the way, stopping his descent instantly. The result was a powerful blast of wind that would push everyone back, but not enough to move the furniture or break anything. The wings vanished instantly, and Oras slashed his sword behind him, shattering the stone pillar that sent him flying. Despite the fact that he actually felt pain during that attack, and that his ice body showed a few cracks, a smile rested on his face. He raised his hand to his wounds, a snow being formed in his hands as he healed the cracks to perfection. He'd need to save his energy a little bit and use just his sword and natural abilities. "Neat trick. I'd like to see you succeed a second time in a row!"
And with that he would charge forward. He was careful this time. If she sprung any pillars up again, he'd shatter but this time they would separate to the sides, reform, push off of the pillar and continue his advancement. He had a counter to this new move of hers.

Anarra thought about protesting as Esialeth draped her cloak over her shoulders, but couldn’t find the words to do so, instead only saying a quiet ”Thank you.” in response after a few moments of silence. The warmth the extra layer of clothing brought to her was something she much appreciated. She made a mental note to give the cloak back to the woman once she got to the dorms; it was only a loan, not a gift.
“I will stay here and watch the duel.” She told the woman, her tone polite yet final; once she made up her mind there was no changing it. ”Perhaps afterwards we could finish your cookies? If you still wish to do so at that time, of course.” She’d never made cookies before. Was this something humans did during their festivities? Or was it just something Esialeth liked to do for herself?
Glancing around her revealed many more people had gathered to watch the fight, perhaps excited to see one of their superiors dueling a student. She caught sight of a girl standing nearby, but lost interest as the nurse struck first, dealing thr first move. As long as the girl didn’t get injured by the fight there was no reason for concern. Her eyes widened a bit in surprise as the Cernun had only moved her foot, causing a massive pillar to shoot from the ground, far larger than any of her own had been. This simple act alone was a testament of the nirse’s strength. And Anarra was impressed by what she saw.
As Oras landed on the ground, she pulled the cloak tighter around her, the cold air sweeping to where she and Esialeth were sitting on the bench. She shivered a little, but not nearly as badly were she in her natural form. In the forest she’d spent the winters bundled up in grass and plants, them acting as a very thick quilt of sorts, protecting her from the snow and frost where she would sleep until the weather warmed back up again and she would wake. But here in the city, at the academy things were much different. She would wait to see how the fight would turn out. Then she would go with Esialeth if the woman still wanted to finish her cookies. And after that....she was looking forward to sleeping.

Catherine was surprised. The fight was not over after all... rather, the school nurse and the student were dueling. That was an interesting twist. Normally faculty broke up fights as quickly as possible. Now the school nurse was participating in something that was clearly against the Hippocratic Oath.
Oh well. To each their own. Catherine watched the fight with renewed interest, particularly after the nurse stomped and sent a column of earth up with about as much effort as it took the brunette to breathe. She was not too worried about getting caught up in it because she was sturdier than she looked. Still, Catherine opted to back away to a safe distance.
Once she felt she was far enough away from the action, the brunette resumed watching the contest.

Had Esialeth a weaker grasp on her disposition, she would have cried in dismay. As it was, she took Anarra's statement in stride and leaned back again, only barely registering the fight near them. Being in the splash zone does not necessitate watching the waves, she thought, but leaving the area might be a coward's move...
In the end, she busied herself with the ever-present aether, letting its ambience warm her up and conjuring effervescent half-formed illusions, her concentration only broken when Inglisse's plaything was thrown miles into the air.
She let out a wry laugh. With any luck, he'll learn some humility. Or I might jump off the Sage tower myself.
...she paused. Although I suppose such expressions hardly matter when I can just summon my wings...
Shaking herself out of her aether-drunken reverie, she turned her attention back to the fight. Was it over yet? If his aether-aura was anything to go by, Lissy's boy toy should've had pretty weak defenses. And Esialeth's predictions were never wrong.
Oh, well. These things could be explored another time, when the sun was higher and distractions were not present. For now, Esialeth flipped open her half-finished novel, steeled her nerves, and began to read.

Beatrice looked up to the sky as her opponent flew up, and up and up. Beatrice even had time draw small circles on the ground with the branch in hand. To the common eye it was just circles overlapping but to the Cernun, it was something else. Looking up, waiting for the ice bits to fall, she instead sees a fully formed ice wind idiot. The nurse sighed as he came back and broke the pillar. A pulling motion made with her hand retracts the shattered rock back into the Earth while super eager snowman came charging at her with the claim he would not fall for the same trick.
Beatrice knew better. The school nurse flips her hair and large puffs of wool appeared, providing a soft crash for the charging foe and enveloping her victim like a herd of sheep. Whether the Atranoch was smart enough to cut into the golden wool to find her or not did not matter, for like digging for a non-existent needle in a haystack, Beatrice was no longer in there. Instead she pops out the ground behind the bench with a golden woollen sweater, and hands it to the cold Leshen-Kirin.
"Come see me in my office if you still don't feel well, don't worry I won't bite or my job isn't Eldritch Academy's school nurse," Beatrice smiled. The sweater would provided the Leshen student with the toasty warmth of a gentle summer's heat. "And no need to return it, trust me I can make more given time and energy." Beatrice walks back into the battle zone, drawing more circles on the ground with the branch until her opponent finally figures out he has been had.

Catherine was again surprised by what was happening in the arena. After sending Oras airborne, the school nurse conjured large tufts of wool to cushion the youth's fall and prevent a duel from reaching a fatal conclusion. That was a nice gesture, but it also made the brunette concerned. What else could the school nurse do?
Catherine wondered if the school staff was hired because of their professional expertise or if they were hired because they were able to fight the students on an even playing field. That led her to wonder how the school nurse was recruited to the staff. Did she come here of her own free will or was she forced into it by threats?
The brunette had to settle down because her paranoia was starting to run away with her. Not every occurrence on campus was the result of a conspiracy. The school nurse was simply doing her job as school nurse. Still, a medical worker would make a great spy. They had access to medical records on an individual that could be exploited by the right people.

He heard the laughing but he didn't care about those people. He didn't care if he shattered or if he melted suddenly. The whole point of combat was to improve oneself. And besides: Gliding down on wings was always something fun to do. He didn't do this to prove how overpowered he was. With his fatal flaw he was far from it. If people couldn't see the hidden meaning in his 'arrogant' challenge then they were idiots wanting someone to mock. And he didn't listen to what idiots had to say. So instead of worrying about annoying sheep, he focused on the fight. Showing how he didn't mind being hit like that. He didn't need to speak. His wide grin, the excitement in his eyes, and his body movement all showed that he was enjoying himself. Despite the fact that so far he seemed to be at a disadvantage.
During his run he saw her drawing something on the ground but didn't have the time to process it just yet. For as he charged, he saw the woman spawn a massive amount of wool. A rather insane amount actually. He was moving too fast to be able to avoid it, so instead he placed both of his hands in front and leaped forward. He gave himself a push that launched him speedily into the wool instead of trying and failing to dodge it like an idiot. His arms reshaped to become a piercing spear like weapon, allowing him to pierce through the wool. Like he expected however, he quickly lost momentum and became stuck in the middle of it. He was rapidly growing warmer and changed to form four ice which would delay the warmth's effects for a little bit. He had to think. She was drawing something. It could very easily be a rune or ritual symbol that caused something powerful. He needed to hurry.
Oras froze the wool directly in front of him, causing the area around him to expand outward, making the ball bigger while giving him breathing room. He then froze everything between himself and the outer layer in front of him. He froze the wool directly behind him, and pushed off of his landing pad, his sword up in front of him shattering the ice. As it shattered he used his power to push it out. When he escaped the ball he pushed off of the ice to land on the ground. The second he did he froze the ground as quickly as possible in order to disrupt her carvings. It was likely he would fail, but he was going to try. While he froze the ground he also sent every shard of ice flying towards her from in front and above her.
