welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Anarra took the sweater the nurse handed to her, saying another "Thank you" and put it on over the cloak. The warmth it provided was relieving, to say the least. She hadn't been surprised when the Cernun had popped up behind the bench; she'd felt the ground tremble slightly, which let her know that something was moving underground. The fact that the nurse could do so was impressive; it was difficult for her to burrow underground, given her normally large size.
After a moment, she decided that she would be alright. It wasn't her first time dealing with the cold, and being out in it this time wasn't going to kill her. Though... perhaps she wasn't going to be dueling during this season again if she could help it. After giving a nod of thanks to the Cernun, and watching the nurse disappear back into the fight, she settled against the back of the bench, watching the duel once more. Both opponents seemed strong; any one of them could easily gain the upper hand and win the fight.

Esialeth was fed up with this charade. She delicately placed her red (blood orange) bookmark and rose, mourning the loss of her beautiful illusion-tales as she gazed at the fighting pair with all the queenly contempt she was capable of. Which was a lot.
Stepping into the fray once again, she swirled her aether around her, making the air press down on them with the force of her own will. The scent of jasmine was a respite for her. She doubted it felt the same to them; they probably thought it was uncomfortable. Good.
"Do you two truly not realize the worthlessness of this endeavor?" She pauses, then turns to the Beatrice.
"You are a nurse. A school official. And you're fighting someone? Not that I care what you do outside of your job, but these are school grounds. Have some decency!" Beat. She turns to the man, her voice as cold as the gallons upon gallons of liquid nitrogen stored away in her lab.
"And you! Why did you initiate the challenge in the first place? Are you unaware of the banality of pointless violence? Or was this another useless test?" She scoffs at him. "Newsflash, bitch. Your actions impact others and do not only exist in theory. No one is required to play along to your childish games. No one is required to earn your respect, and no one is required to learn the reasons behind your actions, or recognize the 'greatness' you think you have. If you treat people like garbage, they are allowed to think of you as a jerk and nothing more."
Esialeth paused. She'd said more than she originally intended to, but her voice remaind slow, smooth, and clear, and despite the winter wind, not a single hair was out of place. She glared at them in a way she knew made her sun-gold eyes hard as diamonds and waited for their response.

Beatrice attempted to retaliate the ice attack with her own fire, but before she could will the flames up, her actions were stopped by an odd feeling, as if the weight of the world was now on her shoulders. Beatrice looked up to see the student proclaiming her own criticism at their battle, well not much a battle that it felt like a bull fight. Ironic considering Beatrice was the one with the horns but was not the foolish bull. The nurse sighed, the student, as much as it hurts to admit, was right about the whole thing. That was someone who had potential as a student though.
"Fine, you are right about this whole thing," Beatrice admitted as she casually, well as casually as she could with this heavy feeling, stood upright, her knees slightly bent. "I wanted to teach snowman here a lesson," Beatrice looks at the ground and stabs the branch right into the earth, through the ice. Whatever Beatrice drew, it glowed brightly. Perhaps some geomancers may recognize the symbols now that they were in effect. A simple spell and one Merlissa taught the Cernun in case a student got naughty.
The circle erupts before anything could be done, its glow mighty before a large golem like hand appears, and taps the atronach on the shoulder. It holds out what looks like a slip of paper. To humiliate the situation further, it read the slip out loud.
"Detention." It spoke in a deep booming voice. "Meet at the class stated on the slip along with your summoner Atronach." The hand then points to the rest of the onlookers, its rock finger pointing to even Catherine. "You all are to meet Merlissa the Species Studies teacher in the faculty room. Hard not to miss her she looks like a mermaid. And that goes the same for you Beatrice. You were the one who initiated the summon. And lunch is at 3:30pm remember that, and bring orange juice." The hand gives a thumbs up before disappearing into particles and the earth repairs itself. Beatrice then smiled before letting out a sigh. "I didn't buy orange juice."

He was frustrated at first, as the woman had chosen to interrupt their duel. Instead he'd just act the way he usually did. He smirked at the woman, showing that her words weren't really doing squat with him. "Just because you have no interest in a friendly spar girl, doesn't make dueling banal. There's much more to combat than just that, even if this whole fight was her setting a trap," he said with a cackle. Yes he had figured that much out. However he knew that as a staff member he couldn't avoid it. He just figured he'd see how she planned to go about it. "I don't care how people view me. I don't need respect from any of you. And I never once did anything that would impact you all in a negative way." He turned his whole body to face her. His smirk never leaving. "You think that because I chose to fight in the courtyard that I can't hold back? I made sure our fight never reached the onlookers. I'm not stupid like most people are. The only two things I didn't think about was that I wasn't allowed to issue a challenge in a wide area like this, nor that temporary damage would be an issue either. It was never a problem my first time here but hey, I'm a fast learner." He paused for a bit, his smirk growing. "You can insult and lecture me all you want girl. You're just shooting smoke at a mountain."
Then the nurse began to speak, stating that the girl was right when she had spoken to her. Were people really this tight about things? This was absurd. Especially since he wasn't forcing anyone to fight. It was a challenge. If anyone accepted it was their choice to participate. She then activated the circle and Oras saw an enormous golem appear. He scanned the entire thing with his eyes and.. Truth be told that was definitely something that could give him a bit of a struggle against. It would definitely have been interesting to fight. Then it gave him a slip of paper that read detention. It even read it out loud. Oras' face looked a little surprised and confused at first, but then it vanished as a smile appeared. He started chuckling, then burst out laughing.
"Oh my Lord that was awesome!" he said between laughs. "Very well done then miss! That was a well strategized victory," he said as he walked over to her. He offered to shake her hand with a wide grin on his face. "I once told someone recently that there is more than one way to win a duel. I like being proved right," he said with a chuckle. "I'm not at all a student in this academy as I'm sure you understand more than anyone. I'm simply here to aid my summoner in any manner she needs. However if it makes you happy I'll participate in this, but I do want to ask you of something: I'd like to have an official spar with you at some point. I'll promise to only duel at the training grounds from now on. I can easily make announcements here and move the fight. Sounds like a good compromise right?" He may have lost, but that didn't bother him. It didn't even bother him that he was given detention, though he wasn't a student. He was showing everyone that no matter what they did to humiliate him or strike him with words. He couldn't be hurt. He couldn't be stopped. Only reasoned with.
"By the way," he said to the nurse. "Name's Oras Auro. What's yours?"

Catherine sighed. This whole thing was a conspiracy. It was awfully convenient that she was swept up along with those who had actually been fighting. She thought that group punishments for the actions of a few were against international regulations, but as an old politician from history once said, "a treaty is just a scrap of paper."
She knew that the school nurse was a spy. She was here to make sure that Catherine got caught in the dragnet. Catherine would stay away from the sinister ram from here on out. That fake smile would not fool her anymore. The ram thought that she was so clever prancing around dressed as a school nurse, but the brunette was onto her game now.
Beatrice Ramhorn. Catherine would remember that name. That was the name of the spy pretending to be a school nurse. Now she had to find orange juice for whatever reason. She was sure that the shopkeeper or whoever was pretending to be a shopkeeper was in on the whole scheme too.

Detention? What was that? Anarra had never heard of the word before. But judging by the reactions of the others around her, it didn’t seem to be anything good. She also didn’t know what a mermaid was, though she guessed she would find out soon enough. Were they supposed to go to this ‘faculty room’ right away? She hadn’t gotten used to the layout of the school yet.
As she thought, she took time to think on Esialeth’s reaction. The woman had been rather angry with Oras and the nurse. Anarra could understand why, to an extent. From what she’d gathered from Esialeth’s words, the courtyard was a place for others to gather in peace. The Atronach had taken that peace and quiet away when he’d issued the challenge and began the duel. And the nurse was a superior in the school, so the student had most likely expected the Cernun to stop the duel. However, while the courtyard had been damaged by the fighting, the spread of the damage had only stayed in the area where the fighting had taken place. It would take some form of magic to repair the damage, but it wasn’t as though the courtyard had burned down, permanently destroyed.
As for the Atronach himself, Oras certainly seemed to have a love for fighting, and a knack for “rubbing others the wrong way”, as the human saying went. Whether this was intentional or not was something that would need a little more observation. While Anarra herself enjoyed dueling, as it was a good way to judge her own strength against others, and provided a way to improve her skills, she could understand that perhaps this hadn’t been the appropriate place for Oras to initiate the duel.
Movement turned her attention away from her thoughts, and turning her head to find the cause of her distraction, she saw the young girl from earlier there close to her. The girl seemed to be agitated for some reason, or uncomfortable at the very least. Perhaps it had to do with having to meet with one of the school superiors? Maybe she should try to ease the girl’s fears. Standing up, she walked over to her, and put a hand on her shoulder. From studying humans on her few travels to villages close to her forest home, this gesture appeared to have a comforting affect on those that were upset. Whether it would work or not remained to be seen.
”I am sure that meeting this Merlissa will not be as bad as you fear it will be.” The halfbreed stated, trying her best to smile. She was unsure if that was what her face was actually doing at the moment, however. Facial muscles were something she was still getting used to.
