welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

♦ CHARACTER INFORMATION ♦ Name: Runa Bystrom
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Occupation: Traveler; artificer.
Height: 5'2"
Appearance:
Personality:
- Mischievous - When Runa isn't feeling especially cruel, she's just as at-home pulling pranks, teasing, and otherwise causing people to be uncomfortable in a way that isn't meant to just be an asshole for the sake of it.
- Cruel - Runa is an incredibly cruel individual; behind that cute face of hers is a mind that would like nothing more than to ruin as many lives as possible. This is both because it's sort of an inherent part of her talent, which she takes great pride in, but also just because she finds a twisted sense of satisfaction in doing so, not inherently out of malicious intent but simply because it's fun to be bad.
- Pessimistic - She's a very pessimistic person who's always able to see the bad in every situation, with the positives often hiding behind that wall of negativity. Whether or not she thinks the outcome may be favorable, her focus is always on what could or will likely go wrong, over what sort of joys may come of it.
- Self-destructive - Many of the things Runa creates with her talent are incredibly dangerous and often times cause large amounts of collateral damage, sometimes including harm to herself just due to the nature of how magical artifacts can often work. While she doesn't outright try to cause herself any harm, she's fully prepared to do so and doesn't seem to mind the idea one little bit.
- Confidant - She's a very confident person, and is often willing to bet just about anything that her works will be capable of getting the job done. Or, if not her works, then she herself.
- Proud - Runa is incredibly proud of her work; she believes her craft is among the highest quality of any similar professions in the entirety of the world, and will make damn sure everybody knows it, especially if it's ever doubted. She takes enormous offense to anybody claiming that her work is either subpar, insufficient, or unable to match up to somebody else's, and will immediately set out to prove them otherwise - generally in the most violent and painful possible way. That said, appealing to this pride is a quick way to get on her good side and make her liable to offer up her services either for free or at a very discounted price. She doesn't do it for the money; she does it because she loves her trade.
- Inelegant - Runa is not elegant or ladylike in any sense of the word. She's very much a tomboy and is much more at home getting her hands dirty than she is presenting any sort of image of refinement or class.
- Hardworking - As a Dvergr, Runa is used to working hard at whatever she does, but has a particular passion for putting her all into her work. She sees it as not only a practical profession but also as a work of art and an extension of herself, and will spend days laboriously toiling away to make sure each and every detail is utterly impeccable. As a result she has a very low opinion of lazy people or anybody with a "cozy" profession that doesn't require much toil - she also has a begrudging respect for even the most fresh smiths and other craftsmen, as they all know exactly the sort of toil that comes with their trade, veteran or no.
- Irresponsible - Runa is irresponsible. More elaboration to come. Kinda lost my train of thought with this one.
- Faithless - Runa is incredibly disillusioned with the idea of gods, divinities, and all things related to them. She views both angels and demons as abhorrent, as well as anything to do with the spirit, soul, etc. This may root from the fact that her talent can't be used on such creatures, but it's hard to say exactly - she herself isn't entirely sure if that could be considered the answer.
- Unsociable - Like most of her kind, Runa is not particularly sociable, and is largely averse to social contact outside of the inner-circle, so to speak. She has little desire to engage with others outside of when she has direct use of or for them, or desires to acquire something that only they can provide. She has a particular distaste for magicians and other mages of any sort, however, and will often times outright refuse to engage with them.
- Restrained - Runa is generally pretty good at keeping a hold on herself and keeping from getting outwardly involved in situations that either wouldn't be to her benefit or that would, while fun, be an utter waste of time. Rather than engaging others directly, if she can avoid it she'll generally hide behind others and make them do the work - that being said, when she does allow that restraint to slip, or is backed into a corner, she's utterly unafraid of going all-out regardless of potential collateral damage on either side.
- Stubborn - Also very much like the rest of her kind, Runa has a goddamn entrenched stubbornness and an unwillingness to change her mind on any subject, at least from outside coaxing. She refuses to let go of grudges and will almost always reject helping anybody who's wronged her even slightly in any way, regardless of what they're asking - even if it's to her benefit to help them.
- Arrogant - She thinks she can do whatever she does better than anybody else, plain and simple. Her reasoning for thinking so might not be entirely wrong, but even in the cases where she's directly confronted with something someone else has done that's superior to her own, she refuses to acknowledge it and will maintain to the bitter end that she did it better.
History: nah fam we gucci, none of this here.
♦ SPECIES INFORMATION ♦ Name of Species: Dvergr (Norse derivative of Dwarf)
Baseline Dimension: Dvergr, in keeping with their theme are often shorter and stockier than most humans. There is a great deal of variation among them, but the general height of a Dvergr is a foot or two below average human height for either respective sex.
Baseline Appearance: Dvergr are typically of a darker natural complexion across the board, ranging from 'fairly tan' at the lighter end to 'especially dark' at the other end of the spectrum. Unlike typical depictions of dwarves in popular culture, Dvergr are not known for being complete midgets with enormous, glorious beards, although it's not unheard of. Their eye colors are typically gold, topaz-yellow or other similar variations, but are known to have fairly unique and varied eye colors on the whole, ranging from vivid magentas to deep red, depending on the region of their ancestry. Their hair colors typically start off rather dark as children, but grow progressively lighter into adulthood, ending in varying shades of silvers and whites.
Culture/Origin of Species: It's unclear where exactly Dvergr originally originate from, but it's estimated that their early ancestors hailed from the rugged mountain ranges of Hisakawa, where they were alleged to have small towns and cities carved into the interior of the mountains. Whether or not this is true is oft disputed, as no signs of any such habitation have ever been found, but it's theorized that due to the Dvergr's nature as experts in smithing and runecraft it would be near impossible to find any of these cities even if one were to spend much of their natural lifespan looking for them - if they could survive the harsh climate and rugged terrain in & of itself, that is.
While Dvergr used to be a fairly common species that had a stable population around the world, due to their hardy and adaptive natures, their population numbers have dwindled down to next to nothing over time for unknown reasons, and their existence now is largely regarded as a myth or outright legend in some areas which had never possessed a stable Dvergr population to begin with. What is still consistent between the remaining Dvergr is that they are often reclusive and unwilling to interact with other races on a regular basis, preferring instead to stick to themselves and cling to their ancient traditions. They still utilize their ancestral form of writing, which consists of runes that make up the "letters" of their alphabet. By stringing these runes together in specific ways and creating variations of them, they are able to form enchantments when inscribed onto physical objects. Due to these constant variations, their language has largely eluded outside understanding. They also oft shun magic, or at least dislike it, but are fairly adaptive and open to the use of new technology.
Traits:
- The written language of the Dvergr is incomprehensible to outsiders, and its teachings are kept a closely guarded secret by what Dvergr still remain in the world. However, their language is the basis of their runic magics, being one in the same, and as a result any Dvergr raised by their own kind is capable of minor runecraft to an extent, able to imbue minor enchantments onto items, such as making them lighter.
- Due to their nature as underground dwellers, Dvergr have a natural degree of nightvision - while it doesn't give them picture-perfect sight in the dark, it does make differentiation a whole lot easier.
- Dvergr are naturally sturdy and adaptable, and have a +1 to Resilience.
- They are also known to be resistant to diseases and possess long lifespans naturally surpassing those of humans; +1 to vitality.
- Finally, Dvergr are naturally built for long periods of time spent in their great forges creating works of masterful quality. +1 to stamina.
- Dvergr are naturally gifted in creating unique metals that otherwise do not exist anywhere else; how exactly they go about this is unclear, but it is likely related to some inborn talent for smithing or knowledge passed down through the generations.
Flaws:- Dvergr are naturally inept at casting magic or bringing other supernatural might to bear, relying almost entirely on their well-developed runic magic and the products of their forges. As a result, they have a -1 to strength, representing their lack of supernatural potency.
- Dvergr are naturally resistant to magics - while this offers them only minute benefits, hardly even worth mentioning, it is worth noting that healing talents are practically useless on Dvergr, leaving them to find other methods of repairing bodily damage.
- Dvergr, due to their written language being fundamentally different from most others in its function and workings, often have a hard time learning or reading other forms of written language. This is typically due to the wide handwriting variation and the existence of cursive and other such variants of language, but may simply be hard for them to comprehend in general as a result of growing up with a fundamentally different understanding of how written language works.
