In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Class had just ended, and the bell began ringing for recess. The first person to leave the class was.. Well not Zekigne, there was someone who had the ability to run faster than other people who got out before he could. But he was a close second. As soon as he was out in the hall he began walking briskly to the first turn he could find, and ducked a corner. Exhaling a breath he'd been holding in relief, he hoped he wouldn't run into anyone. He was done with his classes for the day, so he decided to try and get at least some sleep in his dorm. The night hours always made him restless due to his demonic nature. His angelic side caused him to relax if in a gentle, natural and beautiful environment, so he was going to try exploiting that nature in order to get some sleep.
Clutching his books close to his torso, he walked quickly down the hall. His red coat provided to him by his parents moved with him and his hurried speed. He avoided any and all eye contact as well as any possible collisions. If he didn't run into anyone. If he could see them coming and avoid them. He should be good...

Meanwhile there was another student who was also making her way out of the classrooms. Ryse Azar hurried along the hallway, books held tightly in her arms. She was looking forward to a little relaxation after the harrowing day at school. Maybe she could take a nap before finishing the homework that was due tomorrow. She only had a few more questions to answer for her general species studies class.
Her mind on homework, she hurriedly turned the corner and abruptly ran into someone, smacking straight into them and falling backwards with an 'eep' of surprise. "Oww...." Groaning a little, she rubbed her head, and began picking up her books. Then she snapped her attention to the person she'd ran into. 'Oh no.'
"I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" She said as she gathered the rest of her books and hurried over to the blond haired boy, helping him gather his belongings which had spilled all over the ground. "I uh... wasn't watching where I was going...."

The Nephalem was generally very good at keeping his eyes peeled, and avoiding any collisions or conversations. He'd practiced it since he discovered the dangers of his powers. However, it was generally difficult for one to avoid colliding with someone if they come from a direction outside of one's vision. Which is what happened with Zekigne. One would think that a cliché collision greet would be too cliché to occur in real life, but here he was. Getting rammed from his left side as someone rushed into him from behind a corner.
Zekigne cried out in surprise as he fell to the right, landing hard and rolling onto his back. He groaned as his body ached, but he didn't seem to have scraped or broken anything. Then he heard someone speak and saw a brown haired girl start picking up his books. "Uh, yeah yeah I'm ok. And, don't apologize. Don't worry, I can get this myself," he said quickly. He started picking up his belongings, with a surprising rate. Almost as if he'd practiced at this. He took his books from the girl and quickly turned, running the opposite direction, panting as he did so. His heart was beating quicker, which only made him more nervous. He closed his eyes and started to breath in and out in order to calm himself down.

Well.... that was certainly unexpected. Ryse watched as the boy ran off after gathering his things, frowning in confusion. Was he... afraid of her? She could definitely smell fear coming off of him. Was it because she'd ran into him? Suddenly, she began chasing after him. The urge was so strong she couldn't resist it; she always had an urge after seeing somebody run; or if they were throwing a ball or some other object. Besides, she wanted to see if he was really okay.
"Hey, hey wait!" She called, running after him. She kept a tight hold on her books, weaving around people as she ran, trying to catch up to him. In her hybrid form, she would be able to easily. But in this form she could only move as fast as her legs would allow.

Normally people just let him go, ignored him. Some people would memorize his face so they could 'talk' to him later, or 'teach him manners'. This was the first time anyone had actually chased him however. And it was not a feeling he was comfortable with to say the least. Zekigne glanced behind him and his eyes widened as he saw the brown haired girl chase after him. He quickened his pace in the hopes of escaping her. He ducked behind a random corner, nearly running into someone else in the process but was able to dodge them at just the right time. He was increasing the distance between them rather quickly, which was good, but he didn't slow down.
When he turned a second corner however he skidded to a stop as he'd reached a dead end. Crap he thought. He turned around and tried to run down the hallway he came from, in the hopes that he was still way ahead of the girl he was running from.

The blond haired kid was fast, that much stood out to Ryse as she ran after him. A bit faster than herself. However, with her keen sense of smell she was able to track him down just from his scent alone, despite the fact that he'd vanished from her sight. Following the scent she turned a corner and continued along, almost imagining a trail that was leading her to where the boy was. When she rounded the second corner, she spotted him there and smiled friendly, giving a little wave.
"Um.... I think we may have gotten off to a wrong start." She said, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly. Maybe she could still salvage the situation if she introduced herself. "I'm Ryse. And um.... sorry again for running into you like I did. My head can be up in the clouds sometimes... hehe...."
She paused for a second. Then wanted to mentally smack herself in the forehead as she realized that she while she introduced herself, she hadn't asked for his name yet.
'Way to go Ryse. Now he probably thinks you're rude.'
Well, no time like the present. "What's your name?"

Zekigne came to a stop as he nearly ran into the girl, and quickly took a few steps back to make some distance between them. How did she even know where to turn? Did she just get lucky? Or was he just unlucky? He wondered if luck was another side effect of his being part angel part demon. He was franticly thinking of what he could do to get out of this. 'I could always push her aside' Zekigne shook the thought away, which bought her enough time to speak up. He looked at her when she mentioned getting on the wrong foot. He bit his lip, hoping they could end this quickly so he could return to solitude. Where no one would get hurt. She apologized a second time, talking about how her head was in the clouds or something. 'Similar to the heavens. Perhaps she needs-' He shook this thought away as well.
He wanted to get away. He was afraid he couldn't stop the nature's from affecting him. Then she asked him what his name was. He shuffled his feet a bit, clearly uncomfortable and awkward in this situation. "....Zeke...."

Ryse smiled as the boy told her his name. "Zeke, huh? That's a nice name."
It was obvious to her that he wanted to get away from her. Being near her was making him uncomfortable. Was it because she'd ran into him? Or was it because--
Nervousness and certainty swam through her as she looked at him, a single thought worming its way into her mind. Did he.... did he know what she was?
Her gaze turned wary as she looked at him. Her mother told her that there were humans that hated non-humans. Was he raised like that; to think that non-humans like herself were evil? How would he have found out anyways? Had he secretly listened in one one of her conversations with Oras? No... that didn't make sense. She would've noticed his scent lingering around the area, and she hadn't smelled a scent like his before. So, how did he know? Did he know at all?
"You.... you don't have to be afraid of me." She said, trying to give an encouraging smile despite the nervousness she felt. "I'm not bad, I promise." She was unsure what the boy would do. Would he yell at her? Bolt out of fear? Tell everyone what she was?

He didn't say anything when she complimented his name. He didn't tell her his nephalem name, since he was worried she might guess what it was. Or tell others who would figure it out themselves. He averted his gaze, not looking at her at all. Why did this have to happen? Why did he have to be here? 'I need to care fo--hate those who-' This time he physically shook his head in the attempt to stop the voices. That's when he heard her speak again, this time being different. He could almost see her fear emitting from her like an aura as she spoke. 'And fear is power over others.' He nearly grit his teeth. In class it was easier cause the thoughts weren't directed to anyone in particular, but right now... She told him how he didn't have to be afraid of her. 'The girl is hurting, we must find out why and help her.' Zekigne groaned and shook his head again, clearing his thoughts. "I-it's fine, it's not you. I promise. Just... I'm, not comfortable around others is all..."

"Oh." Well, that was a relief to be sure. Ryse's nervousness faded away as Zeke reassured her that his nervousness wasn't caused by her. He could be lying, but his words seemed genuine. "I don't really feel comfortable being around others too. I like speaking with people one-on-one better than being in a classroom full of people." Although it seemed that his nervousness was a more extreme form of her own. The way he fidgeted, and his eyes constantly glancing around were tell-tale signs of that.
Her anxiety was replaced by concern as she looked at him. They were in a pretty packed area, with students walking back and forth to classes. Perhaps it would be better for him if they went somewhere less crowded. He might be more open to talk then. "Is there somewhere private we could go? I could walk with you to your dorm room if you'd like. That way nobody will bother you."

Zekigne let out a strong sigh. For as her fear died down, so did the voices. Suddenly he felt like he could breath again. He enjoyed it while it lasted, for he knew it wouldn't last very long. She began to speak again, stating how she was uncomfortable around others too. He looked up in confusion now, wondering why she would chase after him if that were the case. Then she explained a bit more, telling him how she liked one on one rather than with large groups of people. So that's why he thought.
Zekigne still didn't say anything. He was still rather uncomfortable with all of this. Then she spoke again, this time suggesting they go somewhere private. She offered to take him to his dorm room and he immediately blushed. 'I can use this to get close to her, then I could-' He shook his head again, shutting his eyes as he did so. 'Shut up!' He looked at her in the eyes again. "I um.. You don't, have to do that for me.." He stopped for a moment. It was probably the worst mistake he could make... But he wondered if this was his chance at having an actual friend. Maybe... Maybe she could have some resistance to his power? Like an. Anti angel and demon ability? "...I'm in the Cobalt dorms though..."

The teenager smiled at Zeke once again. "Well, your dorm is actually the same as mine. I'm in the Cobalt dorm too, so it wouldn't be any trouble." She replied. Ryse was glad he hadn't bolted or went shouting through the hallways. He seemed a bit calmer now. Maybe after they were at his dorm room he would relax more. The poor boy looked ready to chew his fingernails down to the quick; something she'd done a few times in her life when her stress was extreme. The sooner he was in his room, the safer it'll be for him.
Nodding, she placed a gentle hand on the boy's shoulder. "Come on, I know a shortcut." It was a path she'd taken many times before, one that was away from the crowds and had less people travel it. She knew the route like the back of her hand.

She lived in the same dorm too? But. Was that a good thing or a bad thing? 'Good. I can help her more easil--manipulate her more easily' Zekigne grit his teeth and shook his head, shaking the thoughts away. If he wanted a friend, this would probably be the best option. Especially since she didn't like crowds either.. Maybe if just one student understood, that would be ok. 'A liable excuse to get away with-' Zekigne almost hit his head this time. She spoke up again, stating how she knew a shortcut to their dorms. His eyes lit up, suddenly happy and excited that she was offering to show him the fastest way to the dorms. 'I should repay her kindness sevenfol-' He shook the thought away. He agreed with it.. Well sort of. But he wasn't ready to just start giving things away, especially his secrets. He wasn't.. Well ready for that.

Ryse frowned a little as she noticed him shake his head, once again. He'd done it several times already; even when his answer wasn't 'No'. Maybe it was a nervous habit of his? That was a good possibility. Either way, she chose not to comment on this, instead leading him down the pathway she usually took to get to her dorm room. As she expected, there was almost nobody coming this way. It took them around the edges of the courtyard, then down a narrow alleyway between two of the buildings. A few more turns, and they were at the Cobalt dorms.
She smiled at the blond boy. "Well, we're here. Which room is yours?"

He followed her silently, trying to memorize where they were going, what turns they made, etc. He almost walked past her on account of his nervousness and usual walking speed, but forced himself to slow down every time. He did his best to quiet his mind as well. Eventually they reached the Cobalt dorms, as quick as she said they would. She then asked him which room was his. He shuffled his feet a moment. 'I shouldn't give her the advantage of knowing where I-' He shut his eyes tight and cleared the thought from his head. "The.. The last one down the hall.. Left side."
