welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Night was one of her least favorite times of the day. She liked seeing the stars, yes. In her homeland of Hisakawa she could see stars for miles around. But night was also the time when the sun went down. The lack of sunlight left her feeling like there was something missing. There was an internal yearning to see the sun, a strong pulling that only went away when it rose again in the morning. It was this pulling that she felt now as she walked along the empty corridor, heading for the Sage dorm. Her fire was weak, as it always was during the night, and so she relied on the thick jacket she wore to keep her warm. Winter still hung heavily over the country of Mistere, and the air was cold, making her cheeks and nose red.
A week ago, Oras had told her that if she wanted his help, she would have to meet him in the dorm. That was the reason she was out here in the first place. While she didn't know which room he was in currently, she knew what he smelled like. Following the scent - although it was a bit difficult with her nose being cold as it was - she was led to the common room. Grabbing the handle, she opened the door and stepped inside the room, giving a quiet sigh of relief as warmth hit her.

The warmth she felt however was only brief, as Oras had been cooling the area down for himself for the past hour after everyone turned in for the night. The temperature was almost cool enough to prove a little frost in fact. Almost, but not quite. He was wearing his powder blue scarf which cooled him down as well, making him well beyond the temperature that would burn someone if they touched him, though only he could feel it. He was leaning against the wall that lead into the halls where the bedrooms were. The Atranoch opened up his eyes and looked at who was entering the dormitory, as well as breaking his meditation session. When he saw Ryse a wide smirk grew on his face.
"Well hello my dear little puppird~ I assume you have an answer for me then?"

Despite her shivering, Ryse still managed to glare at the Atronach. "Do you have to call me that?" She asked in annoyance. "And my answer is yes. I'm here because I want your help." She was still surprised that Oras had offered to help her and her mom in the first place.
She hugged herself as she moved to sit down on the couch located near her, wishing that the fireplace was lit. Or that the air was warmer, at least. She just came in from outside... she didn't need to be cold inside too.

Oras chuckled when she mentioned how she was here to get his help. How her answer was yes. He clapped his hands twice and she would feel the very chill leave the air, even feel the cold she felt being tugged towards Oras. Instantly the room's temperature changed, the room rising while Oras' dropped further. "Is that 'yes I want your help' or 'yes I want to accept my lineage'? You know I'm waiting for the right answer." He walked over to a nearby table where some tea was. He changed the tip of his finger to his heat form, and placed it under the tea as he held the glass container up. "My summoner has a tendency to enjoy tea, so we've got an abundance of it. Not my personal favorite, but you may like it. Never know until I try."

"Yes, as in I would like your help." Ryse replied, the frown still on her face even as she her shivers stopped. The heat was nice compared to the frigid cold of being outside. She wasn't ready to accept her lineage; not yet anyways.
From the tea she could smell a hint of jasmine, and she smiled in delight. Jasmine tea was her favorite. Put a little honey in it, and it made the best drink for calming nerves she could ask for. A close second being hot chocolate, which she'd tried just a few days earlier. "My mom makes jasmine tea at home whenever she's had a hard day at work. Or... just when she feels like drinking tea."

She responded with mild and indirect hostility towards his question, which only made him smirk more. It was always easier to talk with her when she was upset. He shrugged. "I'll be asking in the form of updates every time we have these little talks of ours puppird~" He watched as she came over and took her cup of tea, and seemed to know what it was already as her face lit up. He quickly looked down to his tea, silently cursing how quickly her attitude changed. He took his own cup, blew on it to chill it swiftly, and drank it cold before putting it down. "I myself don't really care for tea that much. However it would be a pity for my summoner's tea to go to waste, sooooo," he finished with a chuckle.
"Now then. You want me to help you learn the truth of your birth, stop the bullying, and help you come to accept your lineage, correct? I'd like to start with your lineage issue first and foremost, so if you wish to work on the former two, I'll only aid a little." He smiled as he placed his right leg over his left. "In other words: The closer you are to accepting what you are and standing proudly. The more I'll help you."

"I already know what I am." Ryse said testily as she looked at Oras, her grip tightening on her tea. She took a sip, using that pause to try and calm herself down.
That was a really dirty thing, not offering his complete help until she accepted what she was. But she needed his help. He was the only person who knew; who had offered to do so. She couldn't afford to turn him away.
She gritted her teeth, eyes narrowing. "But...... if it's the only way to get your help, then... I'll.... try." The days leading up to this one, she'd struggled with this decision. She fought this for so long that it was difficult thinking that she could do the complete opposite. Accepting both halves of her lineage, her Phoenix and her Church Grim side, was something that frightened her.

Oras rolled his eyes when he heard the next words to come out of her mouth. He formed a small smooth chunk of ice and flung it speedily towards her forehead. The ice was, of course, the fire resistant ice, so it would at least make contact before melting, unless she saw the small chunk in mid air and dodged it. "I said it once, and I'll say it again: Admitting what you are, and accepting what you are, is not the same thing. Stop switching the words around." He saw her teeth grit and relaxed a bit more, looking into her narrowed eyes with a smirk remaining on his face. Hearing her tell him she would try he nodded. "That's good enough for now," he said as he refilled his cup, and offered to pour her some as well.
"Alright so, how about a recap?" he asked before taking a quick sip. "You are a Phoenix and Grim halfbreed. You are unsure of why nor how you are half Grim. You're mother may know, but you can't convince her to tell you anything. In addition you're being bullied in your homeland because you are not a pureblooded Phoenix, and they believe your mother cheated on her husband. These started out as just acts of bullying, but it has shifted to threats, and possibly attacks. Your government has done nothing to help you or your mother despite her aid in prior wars. And then most recent: You made the choice to start ignoring how other people see you and openly 'admit' you are a halfbreed. Anything I'm missing?"

Ryse gave an 'eep' as she saw the ice flying towards her. But she didn't have the full capabilities of her fire powers, since it was night. So she wasn't able to melt the ice all that much before she felt a solid 'thok' against her forehead. "Ow." She grumbled slightly rubbing her forehead and glaring a little at the Atronach.
She was silent as she listened to him give a summary of their last discussion, ans shook her head. He'd pretty much hit the nail on the head with his statements. "No... you said everything...."

Seeing her reaction from being hit with a tiny piece of ice drew a chuckle from Oras before he took another sip. "Well alright then. The question now, is twofold: What should we discuss first, and what do you want to discuss first? And I'm warning you ahead of time: We're not dealing with the bullies and threats until everything else is cleared out of the way. Which I'm guessing was what you wanted to discuss correct?"

Ryse held the tea cup in her hands, taking in the scent of jasmine before replying. "Yes, that's right." She said, holding the cup a little tighter in nervousness. She wanted to get these problems taken care of. After a few moments, she spoke again. "I just... I want to know what happened. Why I am like I am. Both of my parents are Phoenixes, so I don't.... I don't understand."
This was something she'd always wondered about, and even asked her mom about, but to no avail. The older Phoenix hadn't given her any answers. "I feel that, if I actually knew, then. I'd have an easier time accepting it..."
The fact that she was mocked for being what she was, and hearing the rumors about her mother, made her wonder if they were actually telling the truth. She had nothing to go on except the rumors..... what was she supposed to think? Her mother had told her that she'd never been unfaithful to her husband, but without answers.... At first she'd believed her mother, but that faith was waning. Ryse wasn't sure what she believed, anymore.

He listened to her carefully as she first confirmed that she did in fact want to clear out the bully issue as soon as possible. However when she spoke once again it was clear she was ok with ignoring that for the time being. This would make things go a lot smoother at least. She talked about how she wanted to know the truth about her birth, and why she was what she was. It was clear doubt was gnawing at her. Oras shook his head. "We aren't talking with your mother until you make some progress in regards to you accepting your lineage. You can't just make a jump knowing how you came to be. So for now let's just talk about your current thoughts: Are you doubting whether or not your mom cheated on your father?"

For a long moment, Ryse didn't reply. She drank the tea, lost in thought, struggling with her emotions. "........yes." She admitted softly. She hated admitting that she doubted her mother. She wanted to believe that she was telling her the truth, but she could also be lying to her. "I do."
Maybe the others were right. Maybe her mother was right. Ryse simply didn't know what to think.

Oras leaned back in his chair and took another sip as she admitted to the fact that she was beginning to doubt her mother's words and promise. He nodded and began to speak. "Alright then. Assuming you're mother is nothing like what you've known your entire life, and did in fact cheat on her husband. What then? Does this hypothetical truth change anything? Your history yes. How you came to be, yes. But it doesn't change you. Knowing your history is always good. Whether it's simple understanding, or in the hopes that we don't repeat mistakes of the past. Unless you spend time convincing yourself you are like your parent, you won't become your parent. You aren't your mother, so if your doubts become reality, it doesn't make you, your birth and existence a bad thing. I've seen some people birthed by the worst sorts, in the worst manner, but they became one of the best individuals this world of yours has ever seen. So my question is: Will you let the truth determine how you will view yourself?"

"You're right. I'm not my mother." Ryse replied. "But... it would prove that all those people were right. That I'm... I'm.."
'A freak.' The thought whispered in her mind. 'Nothing but a cursed hybrid.'
But then she already knew she was a freak. The truth wouldn't change that.
She gave a sigh. "But if she wasn't.... if she was telling the truth, then how?" She rubbed her temples with a hand, holding the tea cup with the other. It hurt her head thinking of the possibilities. It could've been anything, really.
