welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Since this morning she felt off… Something wasn’t right, Nai knew she should have listened to the woes her body tried to tell her this morning? Was it from stress? She figured it was the lasting effects of fatigue trying to settle in but is being outright denied by the girl’s stubborn streak. From taking care of her ill roommate, worrying about him and his idiotic move to run straight into a damn forest without a single piece of clothing to protect him from the elements and thus nearly catching his second death through exposure of all things. Sometimes… Nai had to pause and wonder if eternal life had a way with killing brain cells.
She certainly was beginning to think it was the case with the birds. She didn’t need to look far for examples. Kiran and Fang were high on her list as eligible examples. The girl flinched as another heavy dose of nausea threatened to kick her to the proverbial curb. Still she stubbornly went with her day, while maintaining her normal calm demeanor. But even there… the apparent lack of energy to her soft greeting and her taking a bit longer to prepare for the day for her classes. But did she stop and listen? No she certainly didn’t.
So close…! The girl mentally rallied herself. Cheering her drained form to fight the second wave of nausea threatening to send her blacking out to the ground. Her room was close enough as it is, a shaking hand reached into her pockets to fetch her keys and using the same barely stable limb she unlocked her door and nearly stumbled into the room. The couch was near… that was her next goal to reach. Before… crud. No her body had reached its limit, The girl’s vision blurred before it faded as the faint thud of her body echoed as her small form collapsed to the ground. That should teach her… never to stress her body. But does Nai ever listen to her body?
You can guess the answer by now is a no.

A Fang on the mend stirred in his bed at the thud, experiencing a groggy déjà vu from the not-so-distant past. He rolled slightly, listening to see if it'd happen again. Was it time for Nai to be home already? Then again, he didn't even remember falling asleep. The cold sweat covering his body told him he'd indeed been asleep in her absence, though. Slowly he sat up on the edge of the bed, blinking and slowly thinking through the sleep haze. When had he felt this sensation before? It seemed important. "Nai?" he called, though barely more than a mew since his voice was still recovering from a nasty cold. Why was Nai thumping around?
Oh, no! The bookcase again?
That was the thought he'd been pinpointing before. When Fang first snapped out of his catatonic state, it was because he'd heard a thud and felt like he needed to check on his host. The same was true now, especially when she didn't respond. And if it wasn't her, then there was a stranger in the dorm he needed to deal with!
Now on his feet, he rushed to the door and flung it open, expected to see the bookcase toppled on her and a pile of books burying her alive, but instead it was something much scarier. Just inside the door was a pale white frame, crumpled to the ground for seemingly no reason. His heart leapt into his throat, thudding away as if he was running a marathon. "Nai!" he cried more urgently, sprinting forward to kneel beside her. Scarred hands reached out to touch her, and attempt to move her so he could check for injury and consciousness. Worry was thick on his face. "Nai, what's wrong? Can you hear me?" The red-head barely waited for a response before gathering her up into his arms and whisking her away to her bed. Laying her down, he did a better look over, but didn't see anything other than she seemed paler than usual and maybe had dark circles under her eyes? It could be his imagination. Perhaps she caught his cold? He leaned down, pressing his lips lightly to her forehead, since lips are more sensitive to temperature than skin anywhere else on the body.

Dizzy…so very dizzy. Nai was beginning to see her body’s viewpoint. Regrets comes as they say when it actually has a reason to visit. But… for Nai the only regrets she has wasn’t for her wellbeing but for the wellbeing of her internal worklist. The list she’s now internally mourning was about to be added for tomorrow if her body doesn’t stop tossing its personal tantrum. She was at her limit… by the gods she should have noticed.. it’s her body after all but see that’s where your wrong. Nai has a habit of ignoring the warning signs her body has long been trying to drill into her head.
She’s stubborn like that, work first before the idea of resting ever comes to play but by then she’d have thought of more ‘chores’ to add to her mental plate. She has a roommate now… one would have thought they could delegate certain chores around their shared room now… But Kurenai being Kurenai wouldn’t dare do it. Not when Fang himself was still on the mend from his mishap with the cold a week or so ago.
She wouldn’t put a sick man to work… that wasn’t right. Not when he also has to deal with going to school soon. This is a school, he would have to suffer classes soon enough with them. The only mercy he has is that he’s going to be in Kiran’s senior year in highschool. Lucky boy… he’s safe from the horrors of college essays and workload.
As Fang’s lips touched her skin the first thing he might as well notice was the coldness it has. It wasn’t as warm as it should be. Her normal gentle warmth was clearly missing from her small body but that could easily be attributed to the fact she’s been outside. Nai’s momentary slumber came to an end where her mini blackout ended as she stirred, a soft moan slipped from her lips as dazed purple eyes twitched before opening. “Wha?....” The dazed girl tried to move but the grip of nausea hadn’t fully released her from its grip. “F-fang?...” She saw something red, the only red she could remember was Fang… She knew she got to her room right? But…why was she on her bed? So many questions only hurt her aching brain.

"I'm here," came his pensive voice hovering above her. His warm hands were brushing both of her cold cheeks. Fang was no medical expert, nor was he super familiar with human biology, but it seemed her temperature should be warmer than this. She'd always seemed warm before, so he took a chance and assumed this was not an ideal situation. Fluffing her covers over her, he disappeared into the closet to fetch the extra ones for those especially cold nights or if the others were in the wash. Upon return he situated a couple of those around her as well, a deep frown becoming a permanent expression on his face. "I hope you didn't catch my cold.." he muttered, standing awkwardly beside the bed as his mind whizzed through possible courses of action.
If she was sick, they'd need herbal teas good for such a thing. That was a good place to start. He disappeared out of the bedroom and into the living area, boiling water and preparing a white tea. While that was brewing, he fetched her mortar and pestle, preparing to craft some sort of potion to aid in her recovery once he was more sure of what the issue was. Mother hen Fang was in full force, filling him with nervous energy to the point of jitters. He may have a tendency to make terrible decisions that often put Kurenai in either harms way or distressed her greatly, but that didn't mean he didn't care. There was a fondness for his roommate, the first face he'd seen when he was released from that horrid jar, the girl who had opened her home to him over and over despite the mistakes the damaged phoenix made. The thought that she was suffering knotted his gut.
Soon he returned with a cup of steaming white tea, setting it on the table at her bedside and sinking down onto the edge of the bed. His hand reached out to again feel her flesh. "Kurenai, can you tell me what's wrong? How do you feel?" Fang asked, crimson eyes bright in worry.

Mama Fang… how fitting to finally put a name to the side she unwittingly triggered again. It’s no secret Fang has a gentle soul. But trigger it at a certain point and you’ll get what she’s having now. A worried Fang fussing over her like a mother hen fusses over his collection of chicks. She was fine, she kept repeating the thought over and over again as if by doing so her body would actually believe it to be true. Not today it wasn’t, if she wasn’t going to listen then her body was going to force her to listen.
It was his worried tone that struck a guilty cord in her. She’s making a sick man work for her sake. How low can she possibly get? Guilt loomed over her thoughts, clouding her already numbed mind from the growing headache echoing behind it. “You worry too much…” Sighed the girl. Nonetheless she didn’t stop him. She stayed still as he continued to fuss over her health. She didn’t mean to collapse a few steps after entering her room. That was her body’s decision, her mind would have rather she reached the couch and curl on it to wait out the remainder of her nausea. But noooo her body had to disobey and in turn attract a resting Fang’s attention. Sometimes she wonders why she even bothers getting her body to listen to what her brain is saying.
“I’ll be fine… I just exhausted myself. I just need to take a small rest.” She said. Hoping to pacify the boy’s worries before it got out of hand. The scent of tea lingered in her nose as she glanced over to the nightstand were the steaming mug he brought with him rested. White tea… the same one she gave him for his cold. Wordlessly the girl snuggled into the warmth blankets, he was right thought. The dark circles hanging under her eyes wasn’t a trick of the light as he had claimed earlier. The colour only became prominent due to the girl’s paling complexion. Her body…certainly knew how to make its point across. She needed to rest it was a fact Kurenai always forgets.

Since he was on the mend, his natural warmth was back for the most part. The frown didn't budge at her assurances. "You aren't fine," he said in a low turn, oddly forceful. He seemed almost on the verge of irritation. Padding over to a shelf near his bed, he plucked up a couple books and then returned to her bed. Without asking permission, he pulled back the covers enough to slip in beside her. Forward, yes, but he had only her best interests in mind. Her body heat was low, and his was hotter than usual. He'd use that to warm her. His body scooted close to her, nearly touching her side. Cracking a book open, he seemed intent to begin reading as she got the rest she said she needed.
"You need to take better care of yourself," he scolded her, thinking over her activities lately. All the studying, plus all the nights caring for him while he was sick. When had she slept? "Hm..this is my fault..." he nodded slightly, feeling guilty as usual. Fang was hardly worth her health, yet that seemed to be what was happening here. The red-head decided to keep an close eye on her to gauge if he needed to go get a nurse or try to call her family for further assistance. "Let me know if you need anything. Now, get some sleep..."

Nai held back a wince throughout his scolding. Internally she shrunk back like a child caught with her hand inside the cookie jar by a parent who explicitly told her not to eat treats before dinner time. She felt like that child now, a child being scolded by a parent who has their best intentions in mind. She wasn’t blind, she could see the worry clouding Fang’s face but… the next action he did, thoroughly tossed the girl’s composure out the window.
Composure? What composure? Oh the soul that leaped straight out of the window when Fang moved the covers on her bed and promptly slid in. A man in her bed, the girl’s pale cheeks flushed bright red. Red blush starkly contrasting the snow-white flesh the girl had on her. And then her own brain decided to abandon her too. So much for regaining her composure. “U-Uh… Fang-kun… u-uhm?” She stammered out, trying to find the right words to tell him this might not be a good idea but he seemed fully intent on making sure he rested.
Rested… For some reason or another Nai felt like she was forgetting something. At the tip of her tongue she knew the answer was there but she couldn’t quite recall with her mind being too preoccupied fighting against the part of her mind keeping her decorum in check. Men shouldn’t be joining unwed ladies in bed. That’s just…a cardinal no, no but here he was, doing so for her own wellbeing. She didn’t know whether to be touched by the gesture or freaked out at how close their skin is touching.
Easy Kurenai, she tried to calm herself. Breathing in internally a mantra to keep her fading cool as she stared right back at the teen. “I s-should be telling you that…You’re still ill..” She countered, trying to maintain some form of dignity right after he managed to smack her mask with his actions. “I’ll rest… right after I do---” The sentence ran dry in her throat when the thing she was trying to recall came up. “The potion for class tomorrow! By Kami I forgot.” And now she was panicking, and clearly trying to get out of the bed despite her body protesting through the nausea trying to burn a hole in her head.

"Hey! No, no, come 'ere!" he protested, hands gently coming to her arms to pull her gently back down against her mattress. For someone usually so easy going, she was a pistol to take care of. Downright difficult! Now, perhaps it was against all of her rules and even some of his own to be in a girl's bed let alone pulling her down into it and accidentally against himself, but his mind wasn't even in that place. If anything, he thought her blushes meant she was warming up and he was doing his job well! Fang wasn't terribly naive, but perhaps could be when he was focused on another matter altogether. "Shhhh! Calm down," Fang urged, his own books falling off the bed in the ruckus. He'd get them later.
Potion? What potion? He hadn't made it yet...oh. She meant for class. Well, that was one area he was actually helpful in. "Kurenai, I can help you with your potion later. Actually, if you tell me what it is, I can do it for you. That won't hurt this once, especially since you're sick and need to rest. Rest.," pleaded the crimson haired worrier, trying his best to be the caregiver she needed. It was the least he could do, since this was probably mostly his fault. He gently held onto her until she stopped resisting, assuming she ever would. Almost nothing could get between this girl and her studies...or between her and anything she set her mind to. Stubborn as an ox, but far more stressed than a common farm animal. Like Kiran always said, it was hard to believe she didn't have an ulcer...his brows perked up. "Could it be you do have an ulcer?" he finished the internal question aloud, not really meaning to, but holding firm to it as his eyes refocused on her. He could probably make a potion for that. Honestly, he could make a potion for just about anything.

It’s official. Nai.exe has stopped all functions the moment she felt his arms practically dragged her down in bed. Where had she seen this scene before? The girl’s numbed mind, struggled to recall as it tried to fight a losing battle between the shock of Fang’s actions and the growing headache further hazing her mind into fuzzy oblivion. “But… but… school work…, laundry…., cooking…” She numbly started listing all the chores that still needed to be done. She had more, but that’s the few she could recall right now due to head being a preoccupied.
Fang meant well.. but it was her inability to task others her work that was making things difficult for her to rest. She sighed, eventually she had to call in the white flag. Her gazed lifted up, half-hearted exasperation glimmered through those eyes of hers until…she noted just how close they were. Hazed be damn, her head just went back to full alert as she whined. “F-Fine…” She reluctantly gave in. The pout had been her first mistake, she knew well enough she couldn’t handle Fang pouting but she still looked anyway. She still…took a gamble and look knowing that she’d likely lose to the boy. And she did, she lost spectacularly given how she was agreeing to his demands. But the only thing…she refused to agree was him doing her work.
She has two hands, two damn hands to work her own school problems. She didn’t want to burden Fang with her own problems. “I’ll… rest…” She sighed defeated. “And uhm…. If its okay… if you could help me?... I’m not really familiar with salves…” She sighed, taking another defeat. She asked him merely to help her, not do it himself. She mentally corrected. Nothing wrong with asking pointers right?
“Are you sure----” The girl was midway through her question when she heard his statement. The girl’s mouth snapped shut. Kiran… of course, Nai internally groaned in dismay. Why did Kiran have to mention ‘ulcers’… “I don’t have…ulcers… that’s just Kiran being a colossal idiot…” The girl grumbled out. Seeing as her mask was being shot to nothing. She might as well let it slip for now. She didn’t have the mental energy to keep it up with the headache taking most of her attention away. “You…shouldn’t listen to him when it comes to jokes like that…. Though remind me to drag him into math class… tomorrow… lets see how he enjoys it.” She grumbled, shifting her gaze from him towards the sheets before she moved to make herself comfortable. Another win for fang it seems, and this coming from a girl who would likely kill herself from overwork.

"I can do all those," Fang insisted as the ill girl listed off all the tasks for the day, still frowning. When he'd been assisting her while she was injured, he'd learned to do the common things. Laundry was a little strange and his cooking was questionable, but in a pinch he could get the job done. He sighed once she finally gave up her fight to get up, coming back down to rest beside him where she was supposed to be right now. He again situated the blankets around her, smoothing them down and tucking them in around her for extra warmth. The boy really did have a nurturing side from somewhere, though it was strange that an old veteran with demons as large as his could still channel such a caring gentleness. "Of course I'll help you with salves. It's one of the few things I'm good at," Fang said softly, leaning to reclaim his tossed books. "But for now, you rest."
Fang's mouth twisted up into a small half smile at her comment about Kiran and the ulcers out of agreement and a small amount of humor. "Colossal idiot or not, you do need to learn to relax and let someone help you. As long as you let me stay here, you aren't alone and I can carry some of the weight," he reminded her, opening his book and waiting for her to sleep. Once she'd slept then they'd tackle whatever it was that ailed her, and get everything she needed done finished.

Kurenai paused. Furrowing her brows together in contemplation. On one hand Fang was right, he’s a capable boy. He had his hands he can use to get his side of the chores done but the other half of her conscience stopped the thought dead in its tracks. He’s still recovering, her other side not so gently reminded her of the few days when she had to laboured taking care of the sick bird who spent the last few days battling a bad cold he caught from his idiotic decision to spend a few hours out in frigid temperatures in nothing but his damn skin.
Phoenix heat be damned… he was clearly freezing his tail feathers off when she found him. It was by some miracle he didn’t pass clear out due to hyperthermia but he still suffered exposure… by gods, Nai internally cringed at the memory of her having to poke Kiran to help her bring him to the nurse for some proper medication.
But that was all in the past now, the other half argued. He’s getting better, he looked a lot healthier than he did a few days ago. Maybe he could handle… She pouted, her lips unwittingly puffed up in a sigh as she mulled over her decision. “I know…” Still stubbornly ignoring the drowsiness creeping up from the back of her head due to tiredness and the comforting warmth the blankets Fang wrapped around her small body. “You’re still on the mend… I don’t want to accidentally strain you.” She sighed softly, was that another excuse? It certainly sounded like it.

"I'm fine. Unless I'm molting, I can't get sick again," came the rebuttal from his lips, not looking away from the pages of his book. This one was in modern day Hisakawa language, though it was probably meant for pre-teens given its muted complexity. The red-head simply enjoyed seeing progress in his learning, slowly but surely unlocking the sections of the library he could handle. The other books beside him were more complicated with one even being an instructional text about ancient Hisakawan language, offering side-by-side comparisons between the symbols and terms and pronunciations. Occasionally he'd flip the pages in that one to search for a word, then nod to himself before going back to simply reading.
Though he was getting absorbed into an activity he'd always taken comfort and pleasure in, he did reach an arm out and gently pat her head, then rearranged the covered a little to make sure his side was against hers for optimum heat transference. Not too much heat so the fever wouldn't intensify, but enough to calm her shivers and make her comfortable enough for sleep. "Just sleep for a little while, Nai. Don't worry about anything but feeling better. I'll be right here the whole time."

The red hue of a blush coloured Kurenai’s cheeks in response. A silent answer to the boy’s blunt retort towards her sad attempts at veering the attention she gained away from her sickly self. She hated it, absolutely loathed the idea of inconveniencing anyone with her ailments. Her body, her sickly body was her problem. No one needed to be bothered by her issues. Especially not Fang who already has his own to deal with.
Teeth gently nibbled on her bottom lip as Kurenai mulled over her darkening thoughts. The faint movement of his hand evaded her sight until she felt the shifting of the blankets around her, tucking her into the warmth both the sheets and his own close body provided. It’s enough to act as a lulling lullaby to the exhausted girl. Still no one can say she didn’t do her damnest to fight against the call of sleep. “Supposed I’m just use to ignoring my own needs…” She chuckled tiredly, instinctively snuggling closer to the warmth as her eyes slid to a close. “Fine…a nap wont be so bad…” She yawned softly.
“If you get sick…don’t blame me.” Came another retort from her lips, sounds like someone grew tired of fighting against a losing battle with sleep.

"I won't get sick," repeated again quietly, side-eyeing her as she fought and lost the battle with sleep. His eyes softened, and within moments he turned back to his reading.
While she snoozed, he continued to carefully move between the books he'd brought, spending the downtime learning the modern version of his language. If he could conquer this, it would be easier to move on and learn the language of Mistere, which would make his life much easier in the long run. While he hadn't wanted to attend the school despite living on the campus, now he was toying with taking a few classes. Perhaps history to catch him up to the present day, and alchemy for fun? He wanted to see what all had changed since his former schooling. It'd been many years since he graduated his last school, and times had been much different.

The warmth he offered felt both familiar and at the same time. It wasn’t, it’s a corundum. A walking confusing she cant explain with clarity as her mind flitted around it, mulling through the distant haze between sleep and waking. Nai’s petite form took its chance to move closer to the heat. A hidden instinct all people have when it comes to survival and when trying to find warmth their bodies needed. Kurenai needed warmth. She wouldn’t admit it for fear of burdening the still recovering man despite his own protests of her not being one. She couldn’t help it, it was an ingrain worry she has since youth that never went away. As she moved closer, unconscious nuzzling against his chest as she slept somewhat peacefully. An hour or two she promised herself, that’s how much she’ll steal from his time. But it wasn’t even past the first hour before a knock came from their door. Two repeated brisk knocks loud enough to smack the light sleeper out of Kurenai as she jolted in a half asleep daze from her nap. Turning her head from left to right in a panic before she settled down as she rubbed her tired eyes.
