welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Ozaki had found a nice dark corner in the library, away from any windows and deadly sunlight. He had gotten off work and had immediately come here. With recent events as they were, the school was currently where he felt the most safe. He had two arms again, so his boss had let him come back to work earlier than she had initially stated. Though not without a barrage of questions he had tried to do his best to answer vaguely.
The black blood had made him act out of character and he’d gotten into a fight with the wrong person. And lost an arm out of it. Of which was currently in one of the many storage freezers in his workplace, bleed dry of the black blood that had infected him, which was in a separate area and being studied. Waste not want not was the motto of the workplace.
He’d like to argue… But what was he going to do with that arm anyways? Throw it away was the answer. But there were uses to vampiric flesh for various alchemic recipes. She’d sent someone to check on him after he failed to show up to work… A rare incident only ever precedented by horrific maiming in Ozaki’s case. And of course the coworker had known to take the arm, lest their shared boss have a fit over wasted materials.
His work place was weird sometimes. Any how. Ozaki had actually dozed off in his little corner while looking at his laptop for new places to live… Since he had led a gang boss right to his old place, that was no longer a viable option to live in. The screen had gone black from how long he was asleep.
It wasn’t rare to see students asleep in the library. And indeed at the age Ozaki was stuck at- he did look like a high school student. What was not usual was the thick quagmire of turbulence surrounding him that any empath that stepped so much as twenty feet within him would be able to get a massive whiff of it. It tasted of pain, sorrow, and boiling rage.
His rest would come to a sudden stop as he jolted out from his rest, a nightmare having shocked him out of his fitful sleep. Ozaki had to take a moment to reorient himself to the waking world.

He had been walking outside of the school for a bit people watching to see what he could learn of the strange gathering of people that came to the school. He had seen many strange and new things that intrigued him greatly and perhaps if he didn’t have other plans today, he might’ve stayed out longer to study the variety of subjects before him. So tearing his eyes away from the sights of people, he would go back inside and head down the hallways to the library where he’d probably stay all day and night if he wasn’t disturbed or distracted by something that drew him out.
He would enter the familiar place that had already become a second home to him, the books a welcoming and comforting sight. He would give the librarian a polite smile before going towards the back of the library to dig through some old books on curses, illnesses, and ancient beasts. He would spend a great deal in that back corner of the library flipping through book after book searching for answers he could never find.
He would continue to search and search and search until the grumble of his stomach and the pull of hunger pulled him back to reality. Ah yes….he needed “real food” didn’t he? The food of reality would not suffice this time, the Nightmare hitting his limit on how long he could without eating the food his body craved most.
But to get it that sort of food, he’d have to go hunting….and he honestly didn’t want to do that. He wanted to read, but….his stomach would growl again as that craving deepened. Having no choice now, unless he wanted to face some rather unpleasant consequences, the Nightmare would put away the books he had for now and shift to move out of the library trying to prepare mentally for what this ordeal entailed, but would pause as that strange part of him that craved that odd food suddenly caught a whiff of what it desired nearby.
There was something bitter sweet and spicy hanging the air. Something that smelled of a buffet it wanted to dig into, but what was the source of this wonderful smell? The thing within him wanted to know and as a result of being hungry he would let the creature lead, his usual golden eyes holding a hint of red to them as he moved further into the library following that scent.
He’d keep moving until the smell was intense, seeming to linger around a child perhaps that sat in a dark corner of the library. There was something strange about this child, but the creature couldn’t quite put its claw on what that was just yet….but then again it didn’t dig too far either. After all this child was radiating with those beautiful and delicious negative emotions it so loved and so without permission, it would get into range of those emotions and stand quietly watching the other sleep as it fed on the emotions that floated about without restraint.
It was quite divine that meal. Even when the other started awake, the creature’s gaze did not move away from the disoriented child as it watched him curiously.
“Nightmares?” the creature would ask, the usual soft and friendly voice slightly deeper and huskier as the beast within took full control of the curious young man for the moment. The only odd signs that this person before the other was perhaps not himself were the strangeness of the gold and red eyes that watched the other with an intense curiosity and perhaps something more.

The moment he woke to find someone staring at him he had the immediate suspicion that they were some sort of emotion eater. Nightmare. Sin eater, one of the other ones. Something. Ozaki reached into his pocket and pulled out the two tourmalines he’d been carrying around. Both of them were humming with negative energy, already filled to the brim. Either he needed better quality ones or he was just spewing that much angst out. He was going to guess the second.
Ozaki put the Tourmaline on the table in front of him, between him and the other guy. “Yah… Though I assume you know that.” He was unable to keep a hint of accusation out of his voice. Upon realizing that he gave a bit of a start, rubbing at his eyes which had heavy shadows underneath them. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude. Its just been kind of a rough couple of days.”
And when he was in this deep of a funk Nightmares and their ilk set him a bit on edge. Personal history and all… They could be dangerous on a normal day. And when you were already having a bad day they could make it worse. He didn’t want to be seen making assumptions based on species though. That’d be racist. And he was anything but that… At least that was what he liked to tell himself.

The other would wake and find him staring; however, the Nightmare who was currently not himself did not care about apologizing for doing what he was doing. In fact, he would do nothing to ease any discomfort, suspicion, or any other sort of emotion such an action might have dug up. He would simply give a slow blink as red tinted orbs watched the other draw out some strange items that hummed with negative energy. Almost like boxes full of delicious goodness. The Nightmare would not hide his interest in such items as he tilted his head at them with a curious expression as the other sat them down on the table between them.
“Hm?” the Nightmare’s eyes would drift lazily to the other as he spoke, his ears picking up on the tone there, but instead of becoming mad or anything like that, the Nightmare’s lips would curl into an smile that could be taken as amused, making one wonder exactly what was going on in the creature’s head. “I can only assume so much from the data I perceive from observing behavior,” the nightmare would begin before pausing as the smile turned into an amused grin. “Unless of course you are suggesting more with your words? Care to expand upon your meaning?” Each word was spoken in a calm, patient manner. The pace neither rushed or slow. Just steady and unafraid.
When the other’s tone changed, the Nightmare would hum softly and come closer, his movement’s fluid like a cat’s rather than a human’s as he moved hardly making a sound that Cheshire like smile plastered to his face all along.
“Is that so? Care to share some of the misery that plagues you?” he would ask as he leaned against the table slightly with his hip, the bells on his clothing jingling slightly as he continued to watch the source of his delicious meal. He was highly aware that this being before him could very well be uncomfortable with him, but in this state of mind? The Nightmare had no restraints on what he could and would do depending on what presented itself. For now though, he was playing the calm card as let his probably unwelcomed presence linger about.

Nightmares could of course enter one’s dreams and make them worse than they already were. That was what Ozaki had meant. Though in his state, they wouldn’t really have to actively try to make it worse to get a meal out of him. Not that that had ever stopped a Nightmare before. They were greedy hungry little creatures…
No no no. He couldn’t be thinking like that. He couldn’t. He had to be better than that.
Ozaki stood up and promptly put his laptop in his bag and grabbed his umbrella. A glance at the clock told him he was going to need it. As a vampire he did not need as much sleep as the next person, but he’d been severely lacking as of late. “If you’re hungry take that Tourmaline there. Should be enough. That’s as much sharing as I’m willing of right now.” He was doing his best to smile as he said this, trying to be polite. It might have worked on anyone else. But a creature capable of sensing his emotion would be able to taste the cocktail of self-loathing, mistrust, sorrow, and barely constrained rage boiling beneath the surface.
Perhaps his boss had been right in trying to get him to take a whole week off of work. Given time he might be able to package this raw state he was in right now in a box of its own. But everything was so much harder to deal with right now. Ozaki wanted things to go back to normal. But how could they when he was literally being stalked by his sire's goons? No where felt safe. It felt like he was the one being hunted. And what could he do? Last time one of Mordred's children had been killed he had... Well he'd done this to him. And he could do far far worse. Killing Mordred would not be possible. Killing his children would be a move that would set him off into a blood rage. All he felt he could do was hide.
He was tired of feeling like he was being hunted, and the nightmare before him was doing just that right now too. Ozaki didn't like it.

Nightmares when viewed by a casual observer could be considered cruel. Their unpredictable nature and habit of stirring up bad vibes could very easily make them seem like heartless creature that only came around for a hunt. However, for this Nightmare things were not what they seemed. The one in control now?
Yes. That being was a strange one, cruel even to the world that it hated for reasons it dared not share for now. It was the sort of creature that did come around something for various reasons. Food was one reason, but pushing buttons and gaining data was the other reason. It was true it could and would do anything it pleased to see results, but this creature didn’t have complete free range as much as it desired it.
No. It shared a body with a child that was quite agitating with his more…gentle ways despite having a love for research in common. It was this child that kept the body silent for a moment as those red tinted eyes became blank, the grin fading slightly as the body watched as the other collected his things and prepared to leave.
Blinking at what was said, the body would look down at the items on the table and after consideration reached out to take them; however, unlike a starving creature the Nightmare would not move as he held the strange containers, one in each hand, balancing them as his eyes narrowed slightly at the smile given.
The red tint in his eyes would fade slightly as he spoke. “So you know of my kind and what we eat. How interesting,” he would begin his voice a lot softer, the mischief of earlier gone as he looked down at the items he had in his hands. He would lift one up showing it to the other.
“I do not think when I am starving, I simply act...and forget myself. I apologize for that.” He would have to work on keeping an eating schedule of some sort to keep himself from going down that dark path he hated to disturbed so. These strange storage boxes the other gave him though….
“These containers... you filled them with so much of your negativity….yet you still hold much around you,” he would look to the other. “Why?” he would ask, this time his voice while curious held nothing, but concern for the other as he watched him with now golden eyes without a trace of red in them. The air around the Nightmare had shifted to something less tense and uncomfortable and his change in behavior was a clear indicator that whatever the other was dealing with before was certainly not the same as the being before him now....or was it?
It was hard to say at times, but that was a worry for another time. Right now the Nightmare had whatever shit that little slip up had caused and a person surrounded by negativity to contend with.

The changing color in the nightmare’s eye and their shifted tone did not do miracles to put Ozaki’s mind at ease. While he was trying his best to keep an open mind, some Nightmares were not fans of easy meals. What was it that famous movie had once said? T-rex does not want to be fed, it wants to hunt. That was true for many species that preyed upon their humanoid counterparts. Even him.
“Its no problem… I mean I can’t really blame you for lapsing for a moment. It could happen to anyone. You’re fine. Just make sure you eat enough… Probably enough in those.” The corners of Ozaki's mouth lifted in a fake smile, but he would be genuinely glad if his suffering could be of some use to someone else rather than just stewing in self pity.
It still was that. But at least in this way… Well it meant something. His pace had slowed slightly. He was still ready to leave in a moment’s notice if there were additional signs that there might be a danger. He didn’t want to be making any assumptions based merely on the species of the person before him. “But again. I’m sorry, but that is all I can share with you… And if its not too much of a hassle. I’d kind of prefer the tourmalines back when you were done with them.”
So long as he had a few empty ones on him he wouldn’t be radiating enough negative aura to attract unscrupulous Dream Weavers who might try and push him farther than he already had been. He wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt… But there were basic safety precautions to be taken.

The Nightmare hadn’t expect the other to be put at ease simply because he had managed to gain more or less control of himself again. No, he didn’t expect that all. Not with this much negativity around the guy. There was something clearly wrong here, but what the Nightmare did not know….and the other did not give him any hints of how he could perhaps figure out the issue or help. It was a situation that perplexed the Nightmare causing his mind to work overtime to try to find a solution in a situation where there was probably none. Still he would try.
As for the words said.
“…”
He would bite his lip a bit not saying anything for the moment as his eyes drifted to the containers in his hands. …Probably enough in those…He didn't like that one bit.
The Nightmare would look up at the other again catching that fake smile that wasn’t fooling him at all as the other moved passed him looking ready to leave before slowing a bit and speaking some more. To what was heard, the Nightmare would give him a small silence before speaking, trying to address all he heard one piece at a time.
“Fine? I think not,” he would begin as he turned slightly to look at the other. “This shows I need to buckle down on bad habits before they get to a point where I simply cease to be me and do things rather unlike me. As for these containers…I do not like to be handed food in turn for an error on my part or even as a way to get rid of me quickly. I am not sure what you think of my kind, but I can assure you, I am not here to simply benefit from that negativity around you. To be frank, I would like you to release it versus hold onto it. Though I am a stranger that has probably given off a bad impression, I would like to help if I could.” He would hold up one of the containers and shake it a bit. “You don’t have to share details if you do not want to or not willing to, but perhaps we can ease more than these containers can hmm?”
It was nice to have something to release negativity into, but would it really help if you didn’t face and address the source? That aside, he would smile softly at the other's request. "Ah I have to return the boxes...we suppose we could." Though he much rather keep them and study to see just how they trapped and held negative energy.

“Right…” Of course. There was no point in lying to a creature that could literally sense his emotions. They could sense everything to the contrary. Saying he was okay did not make it true. “I’m sorry if I offended you, again I truly did not mean ill against you.”
He really didn’t want to seem like he was being racist against Nightmares or anything. He had to keep an open mind. And get the topic off him as quickly as possible. Ozaki latched onto the part where Rika spoke about ceasing to be themselves due to bad habits. They had been quite Nightmare-y a moment ago. Maybe they’d been close to their version of a blood frenzy? Yes. Ozaki could latch onto that. “Mmm… Not sure what you mean by r-r-release. If you’re trying to get me to talk about it…” He shook his head slowly as he broke off his rambling for a moment. “There’ll still be more where that came from. It won’t do any good. And again. No of-offense to you. This has nothing to do with what you are, and more I just don’t know you. Its personal, what I’m going through right now.”
“You really sh-should eat something if you’re hungry though. Getting too hungry can be… A bad thing.” He was trying to watch his words, not trip over any landmines that might offend the nightmare. But Ozaki knew he was doing a piss poor job at it. He really wished they’d at least take some energy from the Tourmalines though, if they were that hungry. There was no telling when they’d revert back to their more surreal state.

He would observe the other with a calm gaze taking in the up and downs of the other's behavior and his voice. He was apologizing now for…offending the creature? Rika would blink at this one as his expression turned to one of brief confusion. “There is no need to apologize for I am not offended.” On that note, what would it take to offend one such as him anyway? Yes he was a nightmare with an dark aspect to him he didn’t understand, but even that dark and more threatening aspect of him that weighed on him constantly didn’t take any offense at whatever was suppose to offend him to begin with. It was very confusing to hear the apology, but soon that would be pushed away as another subject came up – mainly the topic of what this guy was hiding.
Rika would give the other an unreadable stare for a few seconds before closing his eyes as he shifted his weight to his left foot and looking down a bit shook his head. “Release is exactly that. Talking or perhaps going through a purging session of the mind to help ease the suffering,” he would begin and then reopening golden eyes he would turn to face the other fully. “I am not offended. I am more concerned. Personal or not, if the issue is causing this much distress to you…to the point you have more of it share and seem to be running from something, I have to wonder what exactly it is. Even if you can’t tell me, perhaps tell someone you trust? I don’t think it wise to hold onto whatever this is.” He knew that from experience. Bottling up things that are better said out loud or shared with someone….the consequences were never pretty.
Speaking of not pretty, when the subject of food came up the nightmare would consider the other for a moment before folding his arms a bit. “I understand I did go a rather unsightly route due to hunger a moment, but I am okay for now. Besides, food is the last thing on my mind for now. I am honestly more concerned about you. Whatever you are trying to do here and now doesn’t seem to good in and of itself you know.”
Yes he had those container of energy and yes there was plenty of free energy here to snack on, but his hunger had died down in the face of something more curious and concerning before him….and apparently if this one thought he could run or distract the Nightmare from said things, he was wrong or would need to try something else. For right now all his efforts to divert focus from him was doing the exact opposite right now. The Nightmare was fully focused on him.

He needed to calm down a bit. This nightmare didn’t even seem to understand why he maybe should be offended in the first place. Ozaki had enough problems on his plate without adding more. “Sure. I’ll talk to someone.” Ozaki said, drawing his fingers through his hair in an attempt to calm himself a bit.
It was partially a lie, but maybe he’d poke Olivia at some point. She had already been trying to contact him a few days now. He’d just been avoiding her call. Maybe he should pick up next time.
He found it concerning that the Nightmare was neglecting to eat out of concern for him. That really wasn’t healthy. Or safe if he was inclined to go nightmare-ish if he got too hungry. It was like a nightmare’s very own version of a blood frenzy. Which meant he was talking to a starving Nightmare that was only temporarily distracted from their hunger.
But that wasn’t necessarily what was going to happen. Besides. He could probably handle it if the Nightmare went rogue. Nightmares had their methods of knocking a person out, and so did he. It was all a matter of who was the quicker draw.

The Nightmare would tilt his head at the other as he got the short reply in turn. His eyes would narrow slightly at this one. “Will you really do that? Or will you continue to try to avoid whatever is bothering you?” he would ask as he studied the other carefully.
This one seemed like he wanted to do nothing more than to get away from whatever was making him so on edge, but what would make one try to run this fast? And how did one make the other spill the beans without “cheating” in a way? Did he want to play such a game to get information... or did he want to let this play out naturally? Gain trust and such. Choices….

Avoid it. Was that even possible? He could use his bats, but his pursuers weren’t nearly as unobservant or dull witted as Yuuto. Throwing them off his trail was a challenge every time. He wanted to avoid it all. Just go back to things being normal. But Ozaki wasn’t sure that was possible. And this rage… He was doing his best to contain it. To not act rashly on it. Yuuto had powerful weapons… Which were only useful so long as he could actually reach them.
Which you couldn’t do if you had a sedative coursing through your system.
Stop.
You can’t be thinking that here. Ozaki rubbed the back of your head. “What, you think I should just talk to some random stranger about my problems then?” He was unable to keep a little bit of an edge out of his voice, mildly aggravated that people kept butting into his business. To be fair... He did sometimes do that. He woudl talk to a stranger, then hypnotize them to forget. Perhaps he could do that with a Nightmare? No. Why would he tell this Dreamweaver anything?

The Nightmare would quietly contemplate options before pushing them away as he sensed the flows of the emotions of the one before him. He would follow them, trying to piece what all was there. There were many things there, but anger seemed to stick out most. Anger, worry, and fear maybe. They all seemed to radiate off the other in a strange dance that was intoxicating, but not so powerful that it drove the Nightmare back into his other state. To what the Nightmare heard, he would sigh a bit as he shifted in his spot a bit taking a step forward.
"To be frank, I cannot tell you who to share your issues with. Though consider if the tables were turned. If you found me in the same state as you are in, stranger or not, wouldn't you be curious as to what was going on? Maybe go so far as to pry even if it wasn't your business?" he would ask before pausing a bit to give the other time to answer if he wanted to. "Regardless I will not force you to tell me something you don't want to. After all it is personal. Still," the Nightmare would hold out an hand with gold painted nails and flip it over elegantly so his palm faced upward. In his hand formed a illusion of a tree. At first the tree was beautiful and strong, but then a black energy filled it and in turn began to kill and twist the tree. About time that black substance was done with the tree it had become a monster that didn't even resemble what it once was.
The Nightmare would let the image linger, his voice quiet as he observed the image with a cold expression. His tone was flat and devoid of the earlier concern. "Negative emotion consume and destroy you and others if you leave them bottled up. Ignored. Unchecked..." He would crush the image in his hand, shaking his head as he shook away some form of memory there. Looking back at the other, he would give a very faint smile. "On the note of strangers, perhaps we don't have to be that way. My name is Rika Saki. What is yours?"

“Within a heartbeat.” Ozaki muttered in response to the surreal being’s first question. He wouldn’t be able to see someone’s emotional state, but if he knew they were feeling so intensely about something he would try and help anyway he could. That was just the kind of person he was. But it felt… Weird taking such help from other people.
Ozaki watched the image of the tree and grimaced slightly. He wished that particular image wasn’t so fitting right now… Considering how he was having to keep himself in perpetual check to not fly into a blood rage. A little bit of sedative would do wonders… But he really shouldn’t fall back into that habit again. He last thing he wanted was to have an actual reason to go to Doctor Hemlock again.
He could control himself. It wasn’t like he hadn’t been angry before. ”I’m Yuuki Ozaki.” He said, opting to try to be polite at least as he held out his hand.
If he were talking to someone else about their problems he’d probably likewise be encouraging them, that it was okay. He wouldn’t judge them. It wasn’t good to keep things inside like that. And sometimes they did indeed feel better afterwards. “If you must know… I recently found out something I believed in my whole life was a lie, and something I hoped for for years will never happen so… Its been a lot.”
He could tell some amount of it if he were vague.
